Yum yum yum! Went here for dinner and it was the best meal I’ve had so far in Shetland. Delicious, fresh, home made French deliciousness. A wonderful flavourful pork dish and the chocolate mousse for dessert, with a glass of wine to sip alongside. The woman running front of house was super welcoming, full of smiles and accommodated me being earlier than my reservation, and it was so nice to be able to chat French again. The chef was super busy in the back but did wave and smile goodbye as I left which was nice. Would 100% come again. Merci C’est La Vie!

This is one of the top restaurants in Lerwick. The town is filled with mid-level places that do alright, but C’est la Vie, with a chef from the Basque region of Spain and his wife taking care of the front of this intimate 20-seat restaurant, is on another level. Simple, flavourful dishes that pack a bit of heat, using fresh ingredients from the Shetlands and very targeted wine list make it more than worthwhile for a dinner party. The service is top-notch and the patrons friendly. You won’t regret this choice during your stay in Lerwick.

We've been visiting Shetland yearly. Every year we make sure to return to C'est La Vie. Exquisite food with wonderful international spices. I don't eat sea food (never liked it) but I tried a few dishes here for the first time such as scallops. Wonderful. Just wonderful. The dessert made in house are fantastic as well. My favorite are the chocolate mousse and of course the Creme' Brulee. Highly recommended!

What an unexpected surprise. It started to rain as we walked along the main street in Lerwick and we saw the sign for this restaurant so we ducked in. Inside it is full of atmosphere with quirky decorations all around. The greeting was warm and friendly. The menu was a mix of Spanish and French and I think we could have picked pretty much anything from it. I had the Tortilla Patatas followed by the Chocolate Mouse. My wife had Scallops follow by a plate of Iberico Ham. The food was freshly cooked, beautifully presented and delicious. Highly recommended.

Went in at 19:50 for a table for 1, asked the Madame for a table and she hardly looked at me and said I am not sure about that and walked away. In the kitchen she is debating with the chef taking a few minutes. I decided to leave and go elsewhere. I had been told the same by other visitors but thought I’d see for myself. The food may be good which I won’t know now but the welcome and service very poor. If you are not to take anymore customers in I would suggest removing your open sign which sits on the pavement outside.

This was the most interesting and best meal we have had in Orkney and Shetland. It’s a family affair, Monsieur cooks, Madame is front of house and I think son is waiter. I had the scallops to start, cooked to perfection, the sauce was rich and delicious. My partner had the crevettes grille, tasty sauce and cooked to perfection. We had the dry Spanish white wine which was perfect for my taste (dry not floral). For main I had cazuela, a basque sausage bean casserole moderately spicy. I thoroughly enjoyed it, rich and flavourful. For my partner, the chef did a special gluten free crab and rice dish. She loved hers. We shared the excellent crème brûlée, crisp still hot and the custard cool but not frozen. My partner had the tea and I had pastis (I know it’s an aperitif), very smooth. We ordered our meal in advance. Total £156. There are places with more fawning service, but this is France or at least authentically french, it’s about the food. Perhaps to UK or US ears, service a little brusque. However, I can’t speak highly enough of the cuisine and after all this is what you go for.

Finally made it along for dinner, should have been dining here for a long time by now as did not know what we have been missing. As the menu says, Chef likes to use various spices and these were put to good use in a scallop starter, and again on the Wolfish main. Delicately flavoured and really elegantly decorated with multi colour presentation we have not seen at any British restaurant in the last years of travelling extensively here and in Europe. I love a French cafe / bistro, with the atmospheric music to match. Since we can’t get to France so much these days this will do very nicely…Thank You!

What a wonderful experience, it was like finding a piece of Lerwick that is forever French. The restaurant is small and cozy, literally felt like I’d been transported to a small rural French village. The lady who own the restaurant (I didn’t get her name sadly) was welcoming and warm hearted and is actually French. The food was fantastic, tasty and generous in portion size. I had the beef with carrots - melt in the mouth tender! Best meal I’ve had in Shetland. Warm ambience and beautiful food. Pricey (£25+ for mains) but really felt worthwhile for our overall experience (maybe easier to say as my folks paid!!). We had excellent seafood dishes and a crème brûlée that was like a slice of heaven. I’d note that the customer toilet is not within the restaurant building - it’s across the road in a different building. I found this totally okay but maybe worth considering if anyone has bladder and/or mobility issues

What I loved: The food is excellent. The décor is a whimsical delight. The server (a young gentleman) is lovely. What I hated: There is no toilet nor sink for customers. You have to go to another business to use the toilet, and if said business is closed, then you are tough out of luck and have to eat your meal needing the toilet the whole time, which is really unpleasant. There are public toilets a walk away, but for someone with a mobility issue (like myself) that was an unreasonable distance. They charge a service charge, which is not customarily done in the UK.... AT ALL.... but most certainly is not done when it is the owners who are serving you. As I thoroughly loved and appreciated the décor, I took some photos to show my son when I got home, who would be delighted as well. The owner made a snide comment to me that I should have asked her permission.... what restaurant in the UK doesn't allow pictures? Most business owners are over the moon at a chance to have a bit of social media attention. If this is a problem for the owners, then there should be a sign saying, "no photos please," which I would have respected. In any case - why decorate a place in such a manner and then be offended that your customers would like to take a photo? It's just asking for a problem. I live in a building that people constantly photograph, although it's a private residence. Do I go out shouting at the tourists not to take photos? Of course not - I shouldn't live here if I have a problem with that. I was very upset by this, and it basically ruined my day, so I did what we all do... read the negative comments to see if it was me who had been horrible or the owner. It would seem the panned reviews are mostly owing to the emotionally unstable character of the owners. The food is generally considered excellent, but you might be the unlucky one that they decide to treat horrible. They have a bit of philosophical issue in that they seem to view their business as their home - one in which you are a guest. Except guests in one's home generally get to use the toilet!! If you are the sort of person who can dish out attitude when it's needed, then you'll be fine here. Enjoy the cuisine! If you are - like me - someone who instantly feels apologetic dread and examines themselves for any wrong they could have done, then avoid this place. Never in my life have I experienced something like this, yet they have many accusations of being unwelcoming and rude. What's the common denominator? One should not feel on edge in a restaurant. It should be relaxing.

Chance brought us back to Lerwick this evening as our return flight had been rescheduled due to stormy weather. We were looking for something a different and settled on trying C’est la Vie. What a good decision! Lovely relaxed atmosphere, excellent service and exceptional food! It’s not a cheap restaurant but it offers flavours beyond the normal and consequently truly excellent value for money. Everything weve had has been loaded with unique and deep flavors that make you very satisfied. We loved it so much we booked in another meal for later in the week before we left. I also have to say that the reviews about a “rude” owner cant be further from the truth. She is a lovely woman who cares about her customers and wants you to be happy with your food and service. There was no need for a knife as it fell apart, it was melt in the mouth. Finished off with dessert. The torte was light but full of flavour. Had to steal a bit of the crème brûlée. Hi All, I am deeply regretting it to say that I was discriminated in this restaurant today by a female staff member. I went in and saw the menu. As it was my first time in a French restaurant, I ordered a hot chocolate. The female staff member said rudely and with disgust that I shouldn't come to a restaurant especially a French restaurant for a hot chocolate. She was also hesitant to give the password for guest Wi-fi and ended her responses with verbal abuses. I thought that the UK was a multicultural country especially Shetland, which is a land that respects all cultures. But unfortunately, among a few bad experiences, I can add this to the list. I am sad to say that the female staff member was rude with a discrimination and racist behaviour. I had to leave the restaurant with a deep regret that there are still people who live in the dark ages and still consider that my countrymen or people are beneath their feet. If this happens again, I will call the police for such remarks and behaviour. I would like to remind the owner that we all live in the 21st century and such ongoing behaviour from your organisation will not be tolerated and will be reported to the respective authorities. Kind regards, A humble customer who was discriminated and verbally abused by your female staff member on 08/12/2023.

Mixed feelings about this place as unfortunately the food was ruined with excessive use of salt. The meal was VERY expensive and the owners struggled to deduct a £60 gift voucher from the final bill which was more than double that amount for the two...

Good food and friendly hosts. Since we were 10 people, Valerie requested pre-ordering from the menu in advance, and the communication worked excellently. We were given a choice of a nice selection of starters, main courses, and desserts. I chose Fresh crab meat, Bouillabaisse and...

A small cafe/restaurant with great food, ideal place for couples to have a quiet meal without the noise of larger establishments. I love the Spanish cassoulet but should probably try something different next time I visit.

The presentation is spectacular - a colorful medley of natural, complementary spices-petals and threads of the saffron. I enjoyed the salmon entree cooked to perfection with a divine Crème brûlée for dessert. My palate reveled in a luscious melody of flavor. Close to the harbor,...

Den beste ande confit jeg har spist. Lite lokale med få bord, så bestill bord på forhånd. Ta med egen vin.

Brilliant French cooking, a wonderful surprise find in Shetland. Monkfish exceptional as was crab pasta and in spite of prior decision of no desserts, weakened and melted over a shared crime brulèe..!

If I could give it more stars I would. Refined, delicious flavors. The fruit compote in a bed of cream is out of this world! We couldn’t wait to get back to Lerwick to enjoy it again!

Absolutely delicious and very authentic tiny French restaurant run by a family. We had scallops as well as the large prawns, and fabulous homemade bread and butter. The decor and atmosphere inside is authentic and very artistic French and modern.

Einfach lecker

I do prefer RHS part - for me it is like old fashion bar. LHS part has pool table and darts. And on Saturdays u can enjoy caraoke if u like such 'games' ;)

Aaaaall is very good, however, as a VERY personal issue: the water ergo tea from my point of view is undrinkable - u clearly can feel chlorin in the water... Not their fault, however, using a in-line water filter would probably solve the problem :)

It’s more of a good cafe than a restaurant and it is also a caravan and motorhome site plus wigwams ( colourful wooden weatherproof huts). It’s at Braewick not Brae which is 15 miles south. It has all the facilities that a caravan/ motorhome site needs. Electric hook up, drive over drains, black water disposals, clean water available, good parking surfaces. Problem is it takes a bit of finding these facilities! Even the pitches take a bit of locating as only a couple are numbered. All the rest have been washed off, blown away etc. The showers are looking old and are difficult to manage. There is a playground and the beach is 5 mins walk but bear in mind this is 1000 km north of London, nearest neighbours are Iceland and Norway so the water is refreshing. But the views are spectacular cliffs of red rock and in the sea a set of rock stacks (the drongs) look like a Viking longship turned to stone. Wonderful to look at at midnight. You might see Foula, 40 plus km away. There are blow holes through the cliffs, take care. The Northmavine musicians play at Hillswickplus informal dancing for a great night out but it’s a 5 minute drive or an hours walk. Great place just needs an update.
