We were delighted to find that Scotland’s Steak House of the Year was open. The meal started well. We shared Haggis Bon-Bons, which were excellent, and the bottle of Malbec was good. Then came the steaks. My wife had an 8 oz fillet, whilst I had a 10 oz rib-eye, both medium. My wife’s was okay. Mine was tough and badly cooked. I left half of it, and explained to the waitress that it was tough. I heard her explain the problem to the chef, but he clearly did not care. When you are a chef in Scotland’s Steak House of the Year, you should care if a steak is returned as inedible, even if you are just a junior chef. I have eaten in some of the great steak houses in the world, but this was the equivalent of McDs. I hate criticizing local restaurants, but this was very disappointing. £116 for a poor meal also hurt.

Wonderful dinner at Da Steak Hoose. I went for the Surf & Turf of fillet steak and monkfish with Shetland mussels. Best surf & turf I've ever eaten! Starter of charcoal battered haggis bon bons with a sweet curry sauce was equally exceptional 👌

The 5 star had to come out for this place, a must to visit if you are in the Shetlands.

Got scallops for a starter, it was a little too cold and a little unusual with a few slices of sausage 🙂 Had the fillet as a main course - probably the best prepared and most tender meat ever. Exceptionally friendly service by a young but very attentive waiter.

The food was excellent I had the steak even though it was well done which I requested it was tender I also had hasselback potatoes and Broccoli if I could cook Broccoli like that I would eat it every day ! Tasty and full of flavour The service was excellent I thought it was reasonable price

Stone cold "welcome" from the "manageress"....and service with a scowl. Food....we all had steaks, badly cooked, poor quality, skimpy portions. Saving grace was the sticky toffee pudding. Horrendous bill. Should have stayed in and had a Tescos dine in for 2....or gone to the Sumburgh Hotel.

Really lovely steak and service. Would recommend to anyone coming to Lerwick.

Good quality, but high prices and really small portions

A fantastic place for an evening meal. I had the 10oz rib-eye with chips, onion rings, rocket, roasted tomato and the chimichurri. The meat was cooked at a perfect medium rare, the fat was beautifully rendered and the sides were well cooked, well seasoned and the chimichurri was fresh, tasty and the perfect accompaniment. My wife has the 8oz sirloin at a perfect medium. We paired it with a bottle of malbec and finished the night with the lemon meringue and measure of Laphroaig. Excellent service, lovely lighting and no intrusive music.

The rib eye was completely tasteless and was quite tough. We all had to load up on salt pepper and sauce, which normally wouldn’t be needed at all. Still could only finish half.. It was cooked right and the chips were very great, sauces were good, but if you run a beef restaurant you absolutely need to know what you are serving and this was not good enough. The staff was inexperienced and service was average. The mussels we had for starter was great. Price level is quite high compared to local pricing.

The food here is excellent, reasonably priced and beautifully presented. The staff are pleasant and helpful. Book to avoid disappointment!

Excellent service. The sweetest an acknowledged vaitress. Nice presented, looked good. Taste; could have been slightly more seasoned. Beef could have been salted a bit before frying. Seafood linguine preferable needed som garlic. But, we had a good time. Haggis was well presented and tasted excellent.

Very overpriced, usual rip off drinks, £5 for 33cl beer.. Steaks ridiculously over priced, ordered a rib eye, asking for the least fatty one they had , came very undercooked and at least 40% fat, also tasted very old..asked for another to be met with total hostility, chef refused to cook me another steak. Was told they are a steak house and know their business...I've eaten in hundreds of steak houses all over the UK and world and never had an old piece of meat passed to me at a price of £34.. I paid for my extortionate beer and left..still with the taste of spoiled beef and bad service strong in my mouth. Not many choices in Lerwick looks like they get away with it all the time. I certainly won't be back.

Younger waitress was lovely and very helpful. The older manageress was extremely dismissive and frankly unpleasant. We asked if mash was available, rather than just say “no” she asked us “do you see it on the menu” with an exaggerated eye roll. We ordered starters and one large steak to share, the manageress was clearly irritated by the fact we didn’t order one each. Our meal came to just under £100 pounds for two people so we were hardly skinning them. Steak was full of fat and gristle but the meat itself was nice. When asking to pay she was just as rude.

Was excited to try the mussels, but unfortunately let down, these were not good, very challenging to pry out of shell and not meaty at all. Some research online suggests this may result from frozen, overcooked or forced open mussels. The sauce was delicious so it's a real shame. I did politely share this feedback with our wait staff who were lovely and clearly trying.

Good food, but please take the smoking situation seriously - When patrons smoke at the entrance it wafts directly up and into the establishment which is smallish and unventilated, making it genuinely hard to breath for some. Especially if you're going to charge a per-person minimum (the only place we encountered that did this - even if only one in the party just wants a drink or a side), the environment should be considerate of all patrons.

Tonight was less than spectacular. Unlike when I ate here in December. That December 2023 dinner was a first class steak dinner. Tonight (May 2024) the steak was almost without flavor - just blah. The linguini was a bit bitter and the mussels were under-size. Tonight was disappointing although the service was nice and the sticky toffee pudding dessert was outstanding. I may return but I want to know what has changed because now I am not anxious to return. It was first class 6 months ago and they closed for the Christmas season (extended) but tonight was as if it is not the same place.

Nice ambience, expensive but the Fillet steak was delicious. Someone kept smoking and it would come in to the room and somewhat ruined the atmosphere. I didn’t complain but did mention it and they could care less. The raspberry cheesecake was beautifully presented but tasteless.

Great place great staff good food you have to book

Two delicious meals, both seafood in spite of being in steak house. Beautifully presented, plus superb lemon curd and raspberry meringue dessert. Staff efficient and friendly. Would recommend for a great meal.

Best meal I have had since coming to Scotland. Everything was perfect. I highly recommend the steak over scone with leeks. The restaurant is cozy and super friendly. Cheers!!

The food and service is great, though I am easily pleased. I can vouch for the scallops, burger, and fillet & haggis. Great flavours and textures for all three dishes. If atmosphere and decor is important to you, Da Steak Hoose will leave something to be desired. All in all, I enjoyed myself.

A great place to go for a meal the staff are brilliant

We ate here as a party of four. Food was really good and the staff were kind and nice. The atmosphere in the restaurant was alright but the office-style lights in the ceiling made it feel a little impersonal. I am dropping a star because I felt the prices were unnecessarily high.

This is a small steak house serving a wide variety of food through their appetizers, mains and desserts. Our party of three enjoyed their excellent chicken dish, masterfully plated, a small steak with fries, and a large sirloin with chips, onion rings roasted tomato and salad. The steaks were perfectly prepared Angus steaks - delicious through every bite. The service was top drawer, always. The atmosphere of the dining room was superb.

Had an excellent meal here with my son. I had the steak and haggis stack and he had the hunters chicken. Friendly service and a good atmosphere. Food was really good. Decent portions.

The service was not great. My partner and I shared some appetizers and one main and the waitress rolled her eyes at us and was clearly annoyed. When my meal came (plain boiled potatoe) we asked for butter and she was again, clearly annoyed. Our steak which was ordered medium was barely rare. Given her previous reactions I didn’t even bother to ask for it to be cooked more. The food is tasty and there are gluten free options, but the experience was unpleasant. I wouldn’t rush back!

The steak was ok. The mushrooms were great. But the service was bad. I'm from Greenland and have a long beard and I have brown skin and felt heavily discriminated against. When I finally had the attention of the waiter I was told that she "didn't have time for me as she was attending the other guests". We decided to leave immediately as the service was really bad. The food would have been better if their service was non discriminated.

Can totally tell why this place has won the best steak House of the year. Best steak I've ever had!! If I could them 10 stars I would. Food, service is amazing. Nothing is to much for them. I can't stay away from the place, the fillet steak is to die for. Can't wait until I'm back. By far the best restaurant on the island. Keep up the hard work. Danny.

An amazing quality restaurant at decent prices, not only steaks but also fish, and even vegan meal. A must for good food lovers. Deserts are also a must. Incredible to find such a quality cook in a small town like lerwick

It was easy to see why this award winning restaurant has received so many accolades. Easily the best meal we’ve had on our journey thru the UK so far.

This place is absolutely incredible. Don't miss out, make sure you book in advance. I had steak, my sister had haggis/steak stack. We both had desserts, absolutely gorgeous food. The staff were friendly and helpful. The young lady serving us even helped us find a shop we were looking for. The meal is easily the most delicious meal I've had so far in 2023.

Da Steakhouse, 5 Mounthooly St, Lerwick, Shetland ZE1 0BL. First off, book in advance. I have been here three times and always see people being turned away at the door. Each time I have been staff have been very friendly and efficient. Decorations and layout compliments the whole vibe of the place. Food has always been great, no complaints with any meal I have had here. All aspects of the meal are hand crafted so no frozen sides etc…. I would certainly recommend a visit.

A double birthday celebration made doubly special with one of the best meals we've had in Lerwick. The food and service was second to none can't praise it enough.

Been coming up to Shetland for a few years for work. This was the best food I've had here. Went on a dark November Tuesday night, the pork main was really delicious, and the lemon meringue desert was one of the nicet deserts I've had anywhere in a long time. Really recommend this place, they've only been open less than a year. Small menu, which I like, u just can't maintain quality on a massive menu in a wee place like Shetland. Lovely friendly service. Don't be put off by unassuming side entrance and stairway, the restaurant is v pleasant. And the food is just really great, proper cooking.

Food was excellent, enjoyable evening

After a long day hiking. Was a perfect meal unfortunately I only had the one course. But would have had 3 easily if I wasn't so tired. I had rib eye and chips what was all freshly made. Can not fault the place. Parking is easy on the victoria pier a very short walk. Would definitely recommend 👌

Ribeye steak with blue cheese sauce, medium rare = HEAVEN! This is what I got, maybe a little on the rarer side but that's fine with me. Quality meat and service was super quick. The homemade chips were a delight. The onion rings didn't taste very great but that's minor. Had a beer to go with this and all under £30. Good place to eat out and probably the best steak in Shetland. 😅😅

Visited for a business dinner. A little hidden away but nice atmosphere. Had scallops to start which were delicious. The Jake was lovely but slightly dry. Staff were friendly and fast service. Would recommend and visit again.

What a lovely wee restaurant. A good menu that is a little costly to look at but we'll worth the money. You won't be disappointed. I've been back a few times now. The food and service is excellent, well done and good luck in the furure to Da Steak hoose.

I really enjoyed Da Steakhouse .We had a wonderfull meal in a great location. The decor really adds to the ambiance and we just loved the atmosphere .We had the trio of puddings and souffle to start and both had the chicken for main which was beautiful.Will definitely be returning!

Loved the decor in this place. The menu is quite extensive and the staff are friendly. However this quite overpriced for the size portions and quality and presentation of the meals. We ordered the 3 puddings which are a mix of black pudding and two other selections. It arrived on a massive place with three small pieces of coated puddings and that's it. Looked like they had broken off from a chippy order and chucked on a plate. Wish I took a photo. They were tasty but the prices are extortionate for what you get. A little bit of presentation would have gone a long way.

I wanted to love this place. I did like how it's hidden away and its a great decor. The food is fine but exuberant prices for what you receive.

No joke this was the BEST meal we had our entire trip. I always thought I didn't like lamb turns out I just like Shetland lamb! Hubs had some yummy lamb steak I think - I'm pretty sure I had mutton I just know we were full for days. In the best possible way. We ordered whatever they recommended and were not disappointed. Should of known it would be amazing it's hidden away from the main street so you get a lovely walk after your meal. Staff was friendly and helpful. I think once Up Helly Aa was over locals mellowed a bit. Oh and get the sticky toffee pudding - you are welcome. Jan 2020

Went here with my dad our first night in Shetland over a year ago. As Americans we know good burgers and large portion sizes, and we were SO pleased with both of these things at Da Steak Hoose. The meal prices and the attitude of the staff there were quite agreeable, too. The restaurant also has a very nice, cute interior as well as a really cozy, welcoming vibe, especially to two travelers on their first international trip. I'd love to make it back to Shetland at some point, and if I do I'm definitely going here again.

Nice little family-driven restaurant. Excellent meat, local beer (there's wine as well) and a good atmosphere. A very popular spot, so reservation is a must.

Me and my fiancé booked the steakhouse for a valentines meal. After recent bad reviews we were slightly dubious about what to expect but I’m happy to say we had a brilliant dining experience! We had a table booked for 7pm - food came very fast and our waiter was very good at keeping our drinks topped up. The food was brilliant - we ordered the Valentine’s Day sharing platter and tattie skins for a starter. The range of food available is brilliant and we really couldn’t fault it! Don’t let a few bad reviews put you off - try it for yourself ☺️

We had dinner here for our last night on Shetland. We had the burger and the salmon. Both were excellent. In terms of value we had so much food for the cost that it was almost silly. Neither one of us could finish everything. Highly recommend! The wait staff were very friendly and they have a terrific selection of local gin!

We had a meal last Friday at the steak house in town, and didn’t have a good experience. I left a detailed review on their Facebook page to warn others about it and it appears it’s gone! Can’t see how that’s fair as it was a fair warning to anyone going. Makes me wonder how many bad reviews have been removed. Would give a lot fairer outlook and how overpriced and unprofessional they are! This wouldn’t be as bad if it hadn’t cost so much, as I’d happily pay £92 for a brilliant meal, but the fact this is a steak house with high prices, you expect a certain standard. In brief, Aimees steak was well over cooked, so told the waiter, who comes back and claims the steak continues to cook after it’s been rested!!! Hillarious that the chef thought that was true, being a steak house they need to be nailing every steak perfect especially at their prices! So anyway, told the waiter that wasn’t the case and I’m well experienced in cooking steak, but he claimed that was still the fact. And instead of discounting our meal for aimees half eaten £21 steak, they offered a free drink! Also the seafood we had with it was over cooked and dry, muscled were terrible, as was the langoustines, and tasteless. Didn’t get any recompense for that. My meal was fine, I had a ribeye and was cooked bang on, maybe ribeyes don’t cook themselves after they’ve been rested And as for charging £2 each for their sides, on top of their expensive meal, bit of a piss take! And one of Aimees gins was advertised contained ginger fever tree and was to cost £4, but they added the £2.30 mixer on top of the £4! And then on our way out, after I grudgingly paid £92 for the meal (which wouldn’t be that bad if it was a nice dining experience), a member of the kitchen staff looked Aimee up and down in disgust, obviously annoyed at HER for HIM doing a poor job of cooking the food. We will never be back and if they’re deleting reviews, they could be a lot worse as just this experience.Edit: I’d like to point out I put this review on the page to warn others and also allow the business to take some criticism, the customer is always right and all that. Removing the review has just annoyed me, that’s why I’ve made this post.

Myself and my other half chose Da Steakhoose as a venue for some time together. The before meal service was amazing. Very welcoming and friendly. We both had fillet steak to eat with extras and some drinks. Best fillet steak I've had, cooked to perfection, portion size was spot on, service was second to none, staff couldn't have done anymore for us. Cannot wait to go back again. Thank you

I walk into the restaurant. It is 7pm on a wet and windy November Wednesday night. The restaurant seats about 50 people I guess. There are only 5 people eating at 3 different tables. "Do you have a table for one please?" I ask."Do you have a reservation? " Comes the reply. And so it begins....Da Steakhoose is a funny sort of place.It should be really good with fantastic local produce so readily available. Trouble is - it's just not. My Ribeye steak was thin and a touch overcooked. My salad was pretty unadventourous and could've done with tomatoes. My peppercorn sauce was thin and lacking bite. And oh my goodness - the music! Imagine having to spend an hour and a half of your life listening to 1980's American Rock Power Ballads. AT FULL VOLUME!!!!!As you can guess from my opening comments - service wasn't the best. The young male waiter was well off the pace and deferred to his female managerial counterpart for every single question. To her credit, al least she had something about her. It was unquestionably the most disappointing culinary experience I had during my 4 days in Shetland.

La nostra prima sera a Lerwick, martedì 3 settembre 2019, non sapendo della pochissima ricettività dei ristoranti alcuni dei quali proprio chiusi, e della chiusura abbastanza presto degli stessi, abbiamo cercato un posto dove mangiare, siamo passati per primo in questo locale, dopo un po’ di attesa ci hanno detto che al momento (19,50) non c'era posto, avremmo dovuto attendere le 20.30. Poichè era il primo locale abbiamo deciso di provare a trovarne altri, ne abbiamo trovati solo chiusi, quindi abbiamo richiamato alle 20.22 per confermare per le 20.30; dopo un po' di confabulare tra le cameriere ci è stato detto che non era possibile; non parlo o capisco correntemente l’inglese ma sono riuscito a comprendere chiaramente che la cosa dava un po’ fastidio rischiando di allunagre l’orario di chiusura del locale ( le 21.00!!); abbiamo chiesto più volte spiegazioni del come mai meno di 30 minuti prima era possibile ora non più, la risposta è stata semplicemente "Sorry it is'nt possible".Non si vuole recensire la qualità del cibo che non siamo riusciti ad assaggiare bensì si vuole stigmatizzare il comportamento del personale del locale. Anche questa è una esperienza.i voti dati per cibo e qualità sono solo ipotetici noin avendo avuto il "piacere" di provarli

Returned for a meal with my mother, wife and 11 year old daughter. Excellent children’s menu. Food was to its usual high standard. Friendly and knowledgeable waiting staff. Will be back again.

Just returned from DaStekhoose Lerwick and I just can't get over my disapointment.I had re ad the reviews and although my husband always tells me not to believe them I thought how could so many be wrong .My husband had the sirloin steak which was he said was OK but has had better. I had the lamb more like mutton ,I could not chew it and it was oozing blood and I immediately told the staff and it was returned but the replacement although slightly better was tastelress and ths chips were soggy . I left most of the meal, I thought they might have given me a slight reduction but no , the lady who brought us our bill was on the defensive . The previous reviews must be fake or people don't know much about food. I wish now that I had refused the replacement as well and gone else where also we waited over 45 min for this meal

We are visiting the Shetlands and have been disappointed in how tricky it can be sampling local produce if you don’t want to eat out. So, we decided to eat out and have this place a try. We were disappointed at all. We both have starters of locally produced mussels and langoustines which were really delicious. The best mussels we’ve ever had, cooked in a really tasty liquor. Our next course was ribs and I had a rib eye steak. The ribs were apparently great and my rib eye was cooked to perfection. I’ve never noticed seasoning on a piece of meat before but this was good. Portion sizes are generous and indeed my husband had to have one rib packed up to have later. If I had one comment it would be that as a pair of ‘more mature’ customers we would have liked a little more light so we could see what we were eating. The restaurant had a nice ambience and is lit in a subtle way - just a little too subtle when you’re a pair of old farts! Anyway, give them a try - I’m sure you’ll like them!

We had a lovely meal, but to big of portions, You should present smaller plate size then there won't be so much waste.

Here on business, decided to eat out. Random pick and read reviews (but didn't trust them, but still booked).

We visited on a Friday night. We did reserve, which was good because the restaurant area is not that big and they were busy. Service was quite quick. My husband had a steak, which he said was lovely, and I had salmon and assorted seafood with a side of chips. There was a lot of seafood (mussels, prawns, king prawns) in relation to the chips, which meant I couldn't finish it, but it was nice.

We stopped here on our first night in Lerwick and the friendly staff squeezed us in depsite not having a reservation.

Lucky to have booked in advance for this Saturday night. No shortage of quantity on our plate and the steaks were perfect but the service slowed down as the restaurant filled. The young waiting staff were delightful and highly efficient but the kitchen was obviously struggling to keep on top of things. Nonetheless a pleasant meal.

We ate here just once, the food was fantastic, the portions were just massive. Very friendly staff who squeezed us in without a booking. It is located just off the main street up a side street.

Eight of us ate here for a family celebration and we all agreed it was a 1st calss experience. The service and the standard of the food was excellent despite the restaurant being full. Excellent choice on the menu and wine list. The steaks were great and special mention for the salmon which was served with "other seasonal fish".... Langoustines, scallops and mussels. The total bill was very reasonable considering several of us had had steaks. Superb restaurant.

MAKE SURE YOU BOOK A TABLE. Tuesday night at 19:00 full. We had booked so not a problem but many could not get a table. This is a homely restaurant and one of the best nights we had in Lerwick. I had smoked haddock and bacon soup which was outstanding. My wife had a massive gammon steak with eggs, chips and salad and was blown away with the quality. I had a fillet steak, done to perfection and with a good quality bottle of wine we were very happy customers. Staff, very pleasant.

We went to this restaurant during our visit to Lerwick for my son's 14th birthday. He loved it. He ate more than I have ever seen him eat before. I was e expecting a very large bill but was pleasantly surprised that it was reasonable for a steakhouse and for the meal that we had.

We went for a family meal on a Saturday night. The place was fully booked. Great atmosphere and friendly service. I had a 28oz t-bone steak that was cooked to perfection. The plates are big and there is a lot of food on them. Will return for my next visit to Shetland.

Booked this place yesterday as I had heard it gets very busy.

My partner and I went here on a Saturday night and were lucky to get a table as everywhere was busy. Nice pasta dishes and very well cooked steak and side dishes. The garlic mushroom sauce was the best steak sauce I have ever had!

The service was initially slow however the tables were all full. I ordered the ribs..a bit fatty for my liking but was able to remove the fat. There was an abundance of food. I didn't walk away hungry.

Managed to get a table for 2 on a Saturday night, ordered burgers and fries, and got a huge meal, including the biggest potato fries/wedges we have ever seen !

We visit Lerwick every year and always make a point of spending one evening (this year, Thursday 27th June) having a few drinks in the Lounge just across the road before eating at Da Steakhoose, whch I've reviewed before but felt the need to comment that (a) they do seem a bit understaffed, although in our case the service was friendly - as always - and fairly prompt, and (b) the blue cheese and bacon potato skins are the best I've ever eaten.

Despite pre-booking for a group of 8, we waited an hour and 50 minutes for our main courses. Only two front of house staff and repeatedly promised it was coming and then offered free drinks!

Thankfully I had pre-booked. So I would recommend booking a table. This was a Thursday evening and unfortunately they were having to turn customers away.

Booked in advance for 5. Welcomed and seated efficiently. Ordered drink and food with waitress with humour. Food was well served and presented; good quality food and cooking. We all liked the food - my steak was cooked as I requested and was very tasty. Wine and choice was good if a little expensive. £38pp

Beautiful steaks and sides, good atmosphere and friendly staff. A little more expensive than other lovely venues close by. But if you want expensive steaks this is the place to be! YUM.

We've been to this restaurant twice during our vacation. The food was excellent and the service very attentive and friendly. Would def come back.

When I was in the restaurant last. I can't really fault the food or the service it was all good but it was nothing outstanding perhaps it was just a bad evening for me as everybody else sings the praises I can't wait to go and try this again and I hope that the next venture will be better.
