Great food, really welcoming, friendly and helpful staff, room was to a very high standard. Could not fault the place in any way. Everything was 10/10. Will be back soon. Visited again recently, and again in addition to the above review cannot rate the hotel highly enough, rooms are great, food is exceptional, best hotel and restaraunt in shetland by some margin. Going back again in a couple of weeks for a meal which we are really looking forward to once again.

I arrived as a walking puddle, having been caught in a spot of monumental rain as I completed my walk around the bottom half of Bressay. i was welcomed in, despite my state, and proceeded to have a superb time eating a yummy carrot and coriander soup, beer, and spirits with some locals. a mad, and slightly wobbly dash 100m to the ferry back to lerwick roubded out a wonderful experience

I’m really sorry to be negative, but this was not a good experience. The website looks amazing, with fresh local produce such as fish and seafood. However, we arrived for lunch to see a tiny choice of meal - a couple of starters, two 'roasts' and a couple of puddings. £24.95 for two courses, £29.95 for three - are you kidding? Three pounds for a coke too! The roast chicken which we had was OK, nothing more. But, as I say, compared to what is shown on the website, there’s no comparison and indeed the difference is verging on the scandalous. The ice cream dessert was lovely, to be fair.

Great hospitality and the food was very good. The only negative was the price but location, friendliness and service was fantastic.

Fantastic restaurant with delicious food, wine and a whisky bar, located very close to the ferry port in Bressay. We went for dinner, and stayed for a couple of cheeky whiskies in the whisky room - the staff were attentive and friendly. Initially we only had one whisky each after dinner, but on realising the next ferry was 40 minutes away (after getting to the port) we popped back for a cheeky second whisky...

We were recommended to visit by several friends and after checking out the menu online decided to take the ferry over and try it out for lunch. Horrible wet and windy day but it’s a short walk. When we arrived were greeted by Nellie who asked if we had booked. We hadn’t as it is still summer (although it didn’t feel like it) and there was nothing on the website to say that we needed to. Nellie explained that without any bookings they don’t have a chef on during the day which is completely understandable. When she heard we had made a special trip over for lunch she offered a cup of tea. While we were settling down at the table she then said she could do fish and chips but nothing else. We were delighted and had a delicious lunch- best chips in a restaurant ever! Certainly service which went above and beyond. The three different friends who recommended it were surprised to hear that we needed to book, so maybe a wee note on the website would be a good idea. Would certainly recommend and will return (after booking 🤣) when next in Shetland.

We had a fabulous evening at the Maryfield on what was a busy Saturday night. The scallops were delicious - teamed up with black pudding. I had Haddock for my main course - it was delicious. Everyone in our party enjoyed their meal. I couldn't manage a pudding but the chef made me affogato which I thoroughly enjoyed. We enjoyed some Shetland Gin there too. The service was excellent - the waiter, although clearly busy, exuded calm and bonhomie taking the time to talk to us and made us feel very welcome. We were in the dining room at the front overlooking the sea. Lovely room with interesting photos and art work. The snug had a great array of Whiskey and next time we'll make use of it! The customer service was great - I booked using WhatsApp and the hotel were quick to respond and advised me on ferry crossing. After a week of eating out in Lerwick we all agreed that the Maryfield was the best restaurant - it was outstanding.

A great stay with James and Nellie - beautiful room overlooking Lerwick with an exceptionally comfy bed! Stayed 10 nights and ate in most of the time. Food excellent especially the seafood and the fillet stake (Aberdeen Angus). Great flexibility on breakfasts with the full breakfast enough for the day! Locals friendly and helpful. Ali, Matt, Andrew and Sarah - a big thanks for making it even more memorable. An exceptional find; strongly recommend and we hope to get back.

Recommended to come here by the owner of another restaurant in Lerwick - WOW - absolutely fabulous. After a short ferry ride and a good old walk around the island, this place was just perfect. Right by the ferry and going by the non stop phone bookings - the place to be 👍 Warm and friendly welcome by the owners, the staff & the locals. Good conversation & insights into Bressy & Shetland life & it’s inhabitants. Food was fantastic. Scallops & black pudding & prawn cocktail starters were delicious. Main courses of 10oz sirloin for his nibs and duck for me - both cooked to perfection. The accompanying bottle from the ‘secret stash’ of a rather moreish South African Stellenbosch chocolate merlot sealed the evening. Pudding of a superb crumble finally finished me off … room for no more sadly! I think I waddled to the ferry but a happy waddle it was. Definitely a 100% recommendation.

Ate here with a group of friends whilst staying in Lerwick. It wasn't easy to book places in Lerwick itself so we decided to have a trip over to the nearby island of Bressay and managed to book to eat at the Maryfield House. It's a very nice place, just near where the ferry docks. The food was very good - a friend and I shared an antipasta starter which was excellent. We had a variety of dishes and everybody was pleased with their choices. I had Duck and dauphonoise potatoes which was very nice. If there was a minor niggle, it would be that the dauphonoise weren't as good as my wifes and there was a bit too little potatoes and a bit too much duck but only a minor point. A bit more expensive than average but the food was better than average so worth the extra. Our experience was enhanced by the fact that whilst we were waiting to go in, we wandered down to the beach and saw a mother otter with her 2 kits fishing just off the shore. magical.

Not been to the Maryfield for 20 years and so wasn’t sure what to expect. Really pleased we made the journey across Bressay Sound. We were warmly welcomed and quickly seated. The food was fantastic, well cooked and well seasoned and wasn’t trying too hard. The seafood was expertly cooked and a special mention for the chips which we were assured had been hand cut from local tatties! Won’t be waiting another 20 years before we visit again!

Got scallops for a starter, it was a little too cold and a little unfamiliar with a few slices of sausage 🙂 Had the fillet as a main course - probably the best prepared and most tender meat ever. Exceptionally friendly service by a young but very attentive waiter.
