We went to the cinema here twice. We were staying in Borth-y-Gest and it’s the nearest cinema to Porthmadog area (20 minutes drive up the Vale of Ffestiniog). We watched a matinee upstairs (Screen 2) which was wonderful and informal with sofas and tables - the kids loved the vibe. We watched ‘Jungle Cruise’ and it was a lovely family atmosphere. Then we watched ‘Suicide Squad’ on screen 1 downstairs (with traditional style cinema seats - tons of legroom, very comfortable). It’s superb value for money - cinema tickets and drinks and snacks are really reasonably priced. People need to use this place! It’s great.

CellB, aptly named as its in a converted Police Station above the hostel. Small but fun relaxed bar - though the barman needs re-training. Asked for a Single Malt whisky, and was offered 'Jack Daniels'.......... Me thinks not! Still, eventually got the drink sorted, and was surprised at the cheap price. Lots of comfy seating.

Popped in for a spot of lunch whilst waiting to view a property near by. We had an hour to kill so time on our hands for a leisurely lunch(just as well we had!) We asked to see the menu but was told there was just one, and the previous clients to arrive we’re perusing that one. Eventually we got to look at the menu and duly began to make our order. I ordered a cheese toastie only to be told that they hadn’t ordered any bread today(this was at lunch time remember!) We eventually settled on our choice and made our order. Two panini’s and a baked potato with cheese. The girl behind the bar kept making the statement that “it’s a bit hectic today” however beside our party of three there were two mothers with 4 children. We waited for over 50 minutes for our order, and when it did eventually arrive, the waitress repeated the same excuse about things being hectic. The food was very disappointing both aesthetically and in flavour. The baked potato was small and insipid with the cheese not even added but left on a side dish. The door to the gentleman’s toilet was wedged open meaning that the urinals were in full view to women and girls heading to the ladies. The gents toilets were totally devoid of soap or any dispenser to wash ones hands, and there was a grubby small hand towel to dry your hands. All in all a very disappointing visit to an establishment that has potential to serve the many visitors to this historic town. My advice is do not waste time visiting this place

The girl at the bar taking food orders was lovely, very friendly and down to earth. Food itself was good standard, only a small menu and the only vege option had run out. I had the blackened salmon which was really tasty but felt a bit dry and plain with the rice, needed a sauce or something. Husband has the burger which he loved. Kids menu was great! The setting was very interesting too, loved the quirkiness of it. I think for food options in the evening in this town, this is the best.

We rang and booked a table for 8.30pm on a Friday night, arrived on time and went up to the bar however the staff were busy serving cocktails which took about 10 minutes. Eventually we got the attention of the staff and asked about the menu and whether it would be OK to sit outside as it was a warm evening and they agreed it was no problem. The family then took a seat outside and decided what they wanted by now it was 8.50pm I then came back in to order and was then told the kitchen was closing at 9.00 so I could not order, then queried this as it had not been mentioned when booking or when asking about going outside so grudgingly the barman went and asked the Chef and came back saying only the curry was left! At this so did we. It was possibly the worst service I have ever come across in any restaurant or pub.

Huge thank you to Rhys, Nia and the Cellb team for making my 60th birthday dinner so special. The food and service (for a party of 17) was first class and Rhys and Nia couldn't have been more helpful and flexible with the planning, even advising me on movies to run from 60 years ago and getting the whole thing set up. On basis of previous reviews we had high hopes. Initial view was positive, great atmosphere, welcoming and a real find. Ordered food, three choices unavailable, but no problem we ordered two sea bass, one salmon and one pheasant. Pheasant was so over cooked it could have been any old bird, all the fish was cooked to point of dehydration. The fried potatoes on the menu for the salmon dish were substituted with five and a half over cooked chips without explanation or discussion. The food and plates were cold and the size of the portions would have met criteria for a starter. And that was for all three different dishes. Fortunately the starter of olives was very good, or we would have been heading for the Chinese takeaway! Would not be recommending.

This was a hidden gem (really hidden). The place was very difficult to find. The building is hidden down a side street, and the restaurant is through 1 of 4 doors, up a flight of stairs, to the left. The service was great, everyone was very chatty and worked quickly. The food was amazing, I had the lamb burger and my friend had the lamb burger. The burgers were so good that they didn't need additional sauce, etc. It came with really chunky chips and a salad, which were also great. The room we ate in was the old courtroom (the building is in the old police station), and the furniture was really interesting and eclectic, but still practical.I would recommend anyone in the area try out this place because it's a gem.

The first thing to say is that I applaud the owners for what they are trying to achieve here. This is a cafe, bar, restaurant, cinema, music venue and community hub all rolled into one and is probably just what Blaenau needs. We came to Cellb on a strong recommendation from a local and I can see why but our experience didn't match our expectations. However, we had timed it badly as the chef had walked out that day and I applaud the other staff for soldiering on with smiles on their faces. The food that was served was hit and miss but I honestly think they were doing the best they could in unfortunate circumstances. My heart wants to give this place a good review but my head says I can't.However I wish them the best of luck going forward because the town needs this establishment to be a success.

Menu is simple but well cooked and presented. Wine list extremely short but we had a good Rioja. We arrived at 8pm in mid-October unbooked but unfortunately too late to catch the start of the film. A group of friends and I stumbled across Cellb Caffi Bar by accident over the weekend, while looking for somewhere to eat. It is tucked off the High Street but well worth looking out for. It's a fantastic old building (the former court house?) which has been sensitively refurbished to create a wonderfully 'arthouse' space for the bar and restaurant. We sat in the larger hall, which the waitress told us was also used for live music. I can imagine it would be a great venue to listen to music here. The tables in the bar area were full when we arrived, which is a testament to its popularity. The lighting was soft and low, with candles to create a welcoming and intimate atmosphere. The menu was small but well thought out, with plenty to choose from. The staff were very friendly and helpful, giving us some of the history of the building. The service was excellent, although they need a bit more practice on splitting the bill. Downstairs, below the restaurant/bar, is the cinema. We didn't get a chance to see the cinema, but if it is anything like the rest of the building, I bet its a great place to see a film. All-in-all, I'd recommend coming here. We'll certainly keep it in mind next time we come to this part of Wales. Thanks guys!

My brother lives in Blaenau Ffestiniog and had told me about this place, so this weekend we took the opportunity of going here while visiting him. Unfortunately we didn't have time to see a film in the cinema which I gather is also great, but we called in on Saturday evening for food and drinks. The menu is fairly simple, five mains with two veggie options, but it was all lovely food. I had a juicy well-cooked burger which was very tasty! We ate in the room off the main bar which appears to be the old courtroom and was an amazing space, gently lit with fantastic natural wood tables. The staff were all very friendly, and we had drinks afterwards in a comfy seating area.Everything was so good we went back the following day for Sunday lunch, which we all agreed was the best Sunday dinner we'd had in a while. Cellb is a fantastic addition to the town, I'd recommended anyone to seek it out if staying in the area!My brother says the only negative is a lack of local beer, but there's an Oktoberfest this weekend so maybe they will try some they fancy selling!

The food was wonderful, a sure sign of quality ingredients well prepared and presented. My gammon steak was a real treat, thick and full of flavor, my wife was equally impressed with the home made burger puddings were again a delight. We visited here on a midweek lunchtime, having been on the Ffestiniog Railway, planned to have a quick lunch and then catch the train back. We sat outside as we had our dog with us, but going upstairs to order, the inside of the cafe looked really attractive. The menu is simple - burgers, sandwiches, jacket potatoes - just what we were looking for. Perhaps it was because we didn't have all day, but we did feel the service was very slow. We ordered at the counter and it then took over 35 minutes for our food to arrive (1 sandwich, one jacket potato & salad and 1 kids meal) despite there only being one other small group in the place. Wouldn't like to be there when it's busy! The food was fine, but it would have been nice to be offered some basics: any sort of dressing for the salad, ketchup for the chips, butter for the jacket potato, or even better if these arrived with being asked for.As it was we only just had time to eat up and get out.So nice place, but could make some improvements with the service

sure where to start as I never write reveiws, but fron entry to exit this was a great experience, the suprising "off key" setting is an old police station tucked behind the main street in a quaint welsh style mews, We all had starters mains & a 2 out of the 4 had desserts, all had lagers, and 4 bottles of wine we had change out of £120, and we're decent drinkers too!, I highly recommend this for couples and groups of friends its soo chilled without being slack, staff and owners we just class and so attentive, the only crime here is that we had to leave!, a great place to spend you're hard earned swag.

What a welcome! Our group of 10 and a dog were served in a fantastic room where we were served with delicious food and some background to the building and how it had evolved. Thank you so much- the only place to accommodate us on a rather dull drizzly day.

I used to love the food here but they couldn't keep the staff... It is shame it is now a pop up version... Bring back proper food!

This place is really informal but not scruffy - as a lone diner it was good to have a selection of books to look at. I had the steak, which was tasty though not the tenderest I've had - but it came with salad, chips and four different vegetables which was great value. A really relaxed place and it feels like home cooking in the best sense.

This is a community enterprise where you can get an excellent cup of coffee and a chat with local people - they do sell cakes etc.and there is a bar.

Food was fresh and very tasty. Portion size was okay, could have been a bit more... Friendly staff was not too annoyed by our children running around in the side room. Recommend!

Really impressive local effort in a beautifully restored building. Obviously working very hard to give employment to the area. Very friendly and hard working staff. Good food - though not the most tender steak I've ever had. Try the lamb!

A real find. Based around an art space. A real change from the usual tea rooms and cafes, this place would not look out of place in a major town. Staff are ultra friendly and attentive. Food is basic, but home made and done simply but excellent value.

We were impressed by the overall quality of Cellb for such a small town up in remote Blaenau Ffestiniog. The food was homely rather than refined, but very tasty and the service was very pleasant. You eat in a school hall type room with a stage at one end and a model steam engine at the other. As a vegetarian I only had one option to go for but thankfully it was well done. My gluten free girlfriend was hosted sensitively.

We arrived on the Ffestiniog steam train determined to find Cell B for lunch. We had telephoned to book a table but had been unable to understand the answer phone message in Welsh, so decided to take pot luck. It was worth tracking down! It was a very hot day and we were able to have lunch under a shady umbrella in the garden. The staff were absolutely delightful and the food was delicious. The building ,an old Police Station , was quirky and very well converted to its current use. The only downside is that the indoor seating can only be reached by a flight of steep stairs and as one of our party has mobility difficulties, we would not have been able to enjoy Cell B's hospitality if a table in the garden had not been available - which would have been a great shame. Seeing Blaenau in the sunshine was a wonderful and novel experience too!

The first night of our trip to Wales and we hit gold or rather slate. This place is in the old County Police building, but the welcome couldn't have been warmer. Delicious vegetable lasagne, great chips and a guided tour! Thanks Caryl.

I visited this cafe as part of a large group this weekend and couldn't recommend it highly enough. The food was absolutely amazing and the place itself is gorgeous, but the best thing about Cellb is the service. The waitress we had was absolutely lovely and couldn't do enough for us; we got a little tour of the cells as others have mentioned, but she was incredibly welcoming and attentive throughout our meal and made us some fabulous cocktails too! A lovely little hidden gem that I would definitely go back to every time I'm in this area.

We were taken here for a meal as a thank you from some friends who had been staying with us,and although we live in Blaenau this was the first time we had eaten here. The service from the staff was excellent and very attentive ,whilst waiting for the first course we were invited to view the old court room and found the information given very interesting. The food was very good, well presented , tasty and good portions. The atmosphere was warm and cosy with the log stove working but with a contemporary feel.

My husband and I have been staying for a few days in Port Meirion and took the train to Blainau Ffestiniog. It was a lovely trip and we stayed for a few hours. After a lovely walk out of town and back along a rural footpath we started looking for a nice place to have lunch. By chance we saw the sign board on the street advertising CellB. We thoroughly recommend it. It was warm and welcoming and the food was so tasty. Lovely friendly staff.

Great little place and so refreshing to have a contemporary bar/brasserie in the area. Wish the owners every success! The food was great but if there is a downside it was to long coming. Speed up the food delivery and I will be back again and again!

This restaurant, situated in the old police station in Blaenau Ffestiniog, Gwynedd, is fast becoming a favourite with locals and visitors alike. Unfortunately, only open at weekends during winter months for evening meals, but refreshments available during weekdays. CellB is well-run by local young entrepreneur, and the venture deserves all the success that is forthcoming. Have visited with my wife and friends a few times since it's opening, and have not been disappointed once. Food served using fresh local meat and produce, and the local-born chef deserves much credit for the quality of food served. The steak dishes are particularly good, and cooked exactly as the diner requires every time. Service by the local, staff very attentive and friendly at all times. Lovely Welsh atmosphere, with most of the guests, and all staff bilingual. One small piece of criticism: As Welsh-speakers, in this most Welsh-speaking town in the world, we would appreciate some Welsh music in the background, rather than the boring, tedious selection offered. But make an effort to visit. You won't regret it!

OK the menu isn't extensive, and the drinks are limited... but this place has a pleasant enough atmosphere and is "different" The food we had took an eternity to arrive (10:00pm) but when it did it was quite nice - and good value. Some interesting events take place here too - so keep a look out for whats on!

A friend and myself were staying outside Blaenau Ffestiniog in the Snowdonia National Park. We walked into Blaenau and found a traditional Welsh-speaking town (80%) 'on the up' that deserves more than a quick station stop on the steam train. We found Cellb and were hugely impressed by the place. It is to the back of the main street in the old court building and the unsuspecting person may not know what lies awaiting inside: up some stairs into a very welcoming cafe/ bar/ bistro where the manager greeted us in Welsh and could not have been more friendly. We ordered German Bock beers and Welsh Black Beef Burgers (delicious) with hand-cut chips, and were introduced to a really interesting and friendly couple at the next table, a local photographer and a framer. We felt included as they remembered characters and incidents from the town's culturally rich slate mining past. Some young people came in for a drink also, the music was reggae and some cool jazz; all in all a great place and a very laid-back and friendly atmosphere.

Cellb is tucked away in a residential street behind the main road through Blaenau Ffestiniog. The building used to be the police station and courthouse, and has been converted into an arts centre and venue for locals and visitors alike.By day, you'll find a cafe, serving breakfast, lunch and coffees. On weekend evenings, the cafe becomes a lovely little bistro. We shared a fantastic garlic bread with mozzarella cheese and bowl of olives as a starter - both were delicious. For my main course, I enjoyed a lovely goat's cheese salad, with onion marmalade and roasted cherry tomatoes - full of flavour and recommended. My husband ordered a Welsh Black Beef burger with cheese, chips and salad, which he thoroughly enjoyed. We shared a lovely sticky toffee pudding which was served with honeycomb ice cream - I wish I'd ordered my own! They had a great selection of bottled beers to choose from, and the staff were friendly and helpful. I'd recommend it if you're in the Blaenau Ffestiniog area.

We stopped here for breakfast twice, having been disappointed by the service at another establishment. The breakfast rolls are tasty, especially the sausages, and both the tea and coffee were good. Fair prices and very friendly service. Outdoor seating where you can eat your food whilst enjoying the beautiful views of Llanberis and its surroundings. Also does delicious cakes, milkshakes and hot chocolate. Highly recommended.

I'm actually gutted to be writing this review as we thought we had found a good haunt when we first tried last week. 2 adults & 2 children all had a lovely lunch time meal the previous week so we rebooked for the 2 adults for an evening meal the following weekend. The starter was lovely for both of us but we both ordered fillet steak for our main and I don't know what meat it was but it certainly wasn't a beef steak. It didn't look like one, taste like one or even cut like one. I was genuinely gutted as it has put me off going back again because I feel like it's just rude to expect somebody not to notice and left feeling like we've been totally ripped off. You don't order a fillet steak if you don't know exactly what to expect on your plate so the audacity to think you can pull that off is unbelievable. I can't complain about the service, both times it has been spot on, lovely women but unfortunately we won't be returning after been served that.

On a recent visit to Barmouth we found this little Gem of a place that is open on Sundays. There was a special board out side and it was the Cheese and Onion pie that drew us in . Both my husband and me had this and it came with new potatoes and salad . It was delicious and very reasonably priced . We were naughty and were too tempted by the delicious homemade sweets and puds they had to offer . I had the jam and coconut cake and my husband opted for the apple pie. They were presented lovely with fruit and a pot of cream on the side. The staff were friendly and attentive. Will definitely be returning next time we are in Barmouth
