Cellar in Fife

My children bought a voucher as a Christmas gift for my wife and I. The value of the voucher was £180. The owner closed the restaurant in Early January. My daughter sought to have our monies returned but the owner,who is now head chef in Rusacks hotel,has so far not returned the £180

So sorry to hear that its time to say goodbye to the Cellar, its become a firm favourite with us and always a fantastic night. A big thank you to Billy, Michael and the team for giving us some very memorable nights, this was a very special wee place. We wish them well in their next ventures, good luck all.

If I could give everything additional stars ,I certainly would. An unbelievable experience from start to finish. Professionalism of all was amazing , front of house knowledge and delivery, simply outstanding.

One of the best restaurants anywhere! We were here for our anniversary lunch and received such a warm and friendly welcome with great service, the 5/6 course tasting menu is absolutely sublime - not a single fault in any of the dishes, beautifully presented……each plate a little work of art! The wine pairing was also excellent and complimented each course perfectly. Thanks to The Cellar for a wonderful afternoon, we will be returning and also highly recommend for stunning food, wine and service.

My daughter and I had a wonderful lunch at the Cellar. Everything was perfect, our food was exquisite, beautifully presented and totally delicious. Our experience was nearly derailed when my journey was delayed. I arrived late and stressed! The staff couldn’t have been kinder, the service was excellent and I soon relaxed and enjoyed our meal. We decided to go for the wine pairings which I would highly recommend. If you have the opportunity to dine here, do not hesitate to make a reservation you won’t regret it.

An outstanding dining experience. The food was beautiful, meticulously prepared - and explained by the superb waiting team, Emily and Chloe. We enjoyed a tasting menu which provided a huge variety of flavours prepared from high quality, local produce. An intimate but unstuffy environment which complements the character of the building. If you’re looking for someplace special, this is it.

We had the lunch tasting menu. The food was fabulous - stunning presentation and so delicious with amazing flavours. The staff were very welcoming and attentive. We notified the restaurant at the time of booking that I am Coeliac and therefore gluten free. From having the perfectly modified gluten free menu placed on the table for our arrival, through the amazing Wild Hearth GF bread (even wrapped delicious leftovers to takeaway) to stunning the GF modifications this was a perfect lunch.

We have been lucky to experience all but two of Scotland’s starred restaurants and this little gem is one of the best. Michael and Emily - front of house are knowledgeable, enthusiastic and so welcoming. The food was exquisite and probably the best ‘rounded’ and full menu we have tasted in a starred restaurant, there was literally no ‘poorer dishes’ . The paired wines were inspired- fabulous choices. Overall the service, food and ambiance was superb and I can’t recommend enough - most definitely worth a visit and we will certainly be back.

This was our first visit to the Cellar and I must say from the outset, all of my expectations were exceeded during our time there. The setting was tasteful, relaxing and premium in every aspect. The staff were welcoming and made our meal a true "experience". Ingredients and techniques were explained to us with passion and even though I am not a "foodie", I found this fascinating. This food itself is unmatched and a massive compliment to the chef and kitchen staff. To anyone wishing to have the ultimate culinary experience at an intimate venue, I cannot recommend 'The Cellar' highly enough.

Took my parents here during our short stay in Fife. If you can make it, definitely book a table. Incredible meal with lovely staff in a very peaceful, chic setting. 2 hours of dining perfection. Will come again when next in tbe area.

If you want to experience a master class of exceptional food served by friendly, knowledgeable staff in a stunning yet relaxed restaurant then go to The Cellar. You will have to save up your pennies but it truly is an experience of a lifetime.

Having booked here weeks ago and expecting to dine on Saturday 19th August, I was informed today by telephone that the Cellar cannot accommodate my dietary needs as a Type I diabetic in any way and I would therefore have to cancel my booking. They also don’t “cater” for vegetarians, dairy intolerance or anything else they presumably view as faddish, although their reasoning was dressed up as the limitation of a small staff. So, if you have specific dietary needs and don’t want to be excluded from fine dining, I would recommend Peat Inn where previous requests have been met with great enthusiasm, consideration and, presumably, a larger catering team with a more flexible chef.

This restaurant is a true gem. The Michelin standard is upheld impeccably. The staff are passionate and create a relaxing and comfortable atmosphere. Emily was particularly friendly and insightful! The menu is thoughtfully created and plated. Cannot recommend this restaurant enough, it is a must visit!! Particular culinary highlights were the melt-in-the-mouth ox tongue and the North Sea halibut dish. Not one element was disappointing. Portion sizes were perfect - we left satisfied but not over-full and cannot wait to visit again soon!

Simply amazing. Chef / owner Billy Boyter served up pure heaven with a dinner that was as good as I have tasted, anywhere. The full team was welcoming, thoughtful and engaging. Product knowledge and front of house was exceptional. Have nothing but positive inputs about this Michelin star restaurant, it was the perfect evening for my wife’s 50th.

What a fabulous place. First time we have been and certainly won’t be the last. We advised the restaurant on arrival that our daughter had a dairy intolerance, and the help and support they gave was amazing. Service was fab, and each course was truly amazing. What a find.

We took the ferry over from North Berwick and went for lunch with the matching wine pairings. Everything was fantastic, from the friendly staff, excellent food to the setting. My seafood allergy was dealt with efficiently and with thought to the substitutes and I also got my version of the menu to take home. Highly recommend and we look forward to going back.

Inventive and delicious food and faultless service what a treat and would thoroughly recommend. The wine pairing complemented the Michelin star food perfectly and definitely worth trying. The staff were very knowledgeable and brought a relaxed and personal service to a special meal.

It's the best restaurant in Scotland for a reason.

First time here since before Covid lockdown, think July 2020….Lucky enough to get a Table when across the water at the Scottish Open. Better than I remember. Stunning wee entrance fabulous decor. Lovely menu with fantastic local food. Cannot recommend it highly enough. Great food and Great value!!!

The Cellar is nothing short of magnificent. Worth travelling from Australia to visit this outstanding restaurant in the beautiful fishing village of Anstruther. The quality of the food, the friendly, professional service and the excellently executed dishes make for a restaurant that well deserves its Michelin star.

Very nice atmosphere great food and knowledgeable stuff

We enjoyed our meal here, although there are a couple suggestions I would make. We ate a 10 course tasting menu on Skye (Edinbane Lodge - highly recommend!) that was timed so impeccably that we felt the Cellar's timing left a lot to be desired. We were there over three hours - and not because we wanted to be - we spent a lot of time actively wondering where the staff had gone, when our next course would arrive (they seemed to get slower and slower), and waiting around even after asking for our check. We were the last people there at that point so I don't think we should have been waiting. Unfortunately that put a damper on the evening because we were kind of just ready to relax at our hotel at that point. The other thing I was really looking forward to here is the atmosphere - they make a lot of comments that led me to believe it would be casual and warm and welcoming, and while the servers were very friendly, the chef never appeared, and there was a big screen set up between the kitchen and the dining room. Maybe that's just a matter of preference.

Simply perfection, there is nothing I would change about the entire dining experience, will keep returning for years to come, the food is divine and a sensory experience, the chef is an artist and is a master of his craft, the atmosphere is cosy and comfortable complemented by carefully considered decor and a beautiful selection of utensils and cuttlery with each dish, the service is impeccable, it's a delight and a most enjoyable experience, cannot recommend highly enough, worth every penny.

Came down from Inverness for my birthday dinner. My OH always chooses a special restaurant for my birthday. Spectacular meal......the hosting was pretty special too. Very friendly service and they certainly knew the dishes inside out. Every course was brilliant. Flavours exquisite and beautifully presented. The 7 course tasting menu is all that is offered but when it's as good as it is you certainly don't need any other choice. Will certainly be back as the whole area is stunning.
