We ordered the sharing selection of fresh breads and oils for £13.25. 4 variety breads and dips. Given they advertise themselves as “Delicious, Authentic Italian food - since 1985” , family fun Italian restaurant, recipes brought from the family’s original home of Tuscany…..what we did not expect was a plate piled high with half a loaf of supermarket processed sliced white bread, a bake in the oven bagette (undercooked), a piece of supermarket sliced garlic bread, all from Asda probably given its next door.If you can’t get that right in an Italian restaurant what hope have you got. Even the waiter looked embarrassed to leave it on the table. Shame, as the location on the marina and historic nature of the building deserves much better.

Terrible food and overpriced ordered minestrone soup which looked like a can of spaghetti dumped in a bowl with a sprig of parsley on top not a fresh vegetable in sight actually disgusting put me off was given a couple off slices of shop bought bread with oil to compensate the waiter that took us to our table never even smiled which just set a horrible tone for the day with my son the pizza well let's just say I could have bought better elsewhere I ate one slice for 25.95 for two courses I thought was terrible we couldn't wait to leave stale arrancini yuck .....Italians would weep and I should know have family that are Italian

A word of warning for anyone with an allergy! I visited this restaurant on Monday 4th March for a family birthday and chose this restaurant due to its allergen menu. My 7 year old daughter is Celiac and requires a gluten free diet. I phoned the restaurant to confirm that they can cater for this before booking. When we went to the restaurant we asked again what the gluten free options were stating that my daughter is Celiac. We ordered a gluten free main course and dessert, however once back home my daughter started to be violently sick, and this carried on for the next 6 hours. We have seen this reaction before and it is when she has consumed gluten, the effect of the gluten normally takes around two hours until being sick. The restaurant ties in with the times, but just to be sure we checked what she had eaten the whole day. The only things that she had eaten were foods that were naturally gluten free, so the restaurant was the only option. I contacted the restaurant the next day, extremely upset and asked for an explanation and a refund. I was then told that they had not supplied anything containing gluten to my daughter and that they would carry out an investigation over the next two days to interview staff. I have now been told today that following the investigation they can confirm that they have done nothing wrong and that she was not supplied any gluten containing ingredients at the restaurant. This is obviously a very serious matter as the restaurant is clearly where my daughter was glutened. The effect that this had on her and the amount of time she was sick for tells me that this isn't even a case of cross contamination, this is a case of being given gluten containing ingredients. An incident like this will take months for my daughter's body to recover from, but more importantly will affect her psychologically being able to trust going out to eat at any restaurants and cafes. I have been told that the restaurant interviewed all staff and checked kitchen CCTV and they are happy that they didn't supply any gluten containing ingredients.....Not really anything I can do to prove against this but just a word to anyone with Celiac disease to steer clear of here.

This place is a disappointment. Went there for a Valentine's dinner with my husband and won't be coming back, at least not for food. Upon reading the reviews, I gave the place the benefit of the doubt but please, pay attention to the reviews in this case. We ordered a sharing platter antipasti for £17. Now, I am not petty and generally we get our bang for the buck, but it was not the case here. For £17 a lá carte starter, we got 18 half-slices of stale bread (8 white, 8 wholemeal, 2 garlic), 2 pieces of parma ham, 2 pieces of italian salami and 6 pieces of sausage, accompanied by 50-75ml of balsamic, 50-75ml of olive oil, and some olives soaked in more oil. Essentially paid £17 for half a loaf of bread and an absolute tonne of oil. My Cecchini pizza had more parma ham on it than the starter. The only reason why I counted the slices was because it did not seem appropriate for £17 sharing starter. The girls/waitresses were all polite and nice, except for a gentleman (owner/manager [?]) who has no idea that a little smile goes a long way. The additional toppings on pizza are also coming at an outrageous price - I've asked for extra chillies (£1.75, and my husband added peperoni for £2.20). Also, the pizza.... If youre looking for a nice, fluffy sourdough neapolitan/italian style pizza, you will be deeply disappointed. This was a Domino's thin crust base. Weird, huh? In a nutshell, I am giving this place 1/5, and the only reason is nice staff and relatively decent atmosphere, thats the 1 point of 5 here. The owner of this place definitely has a lot to learn. I've never been here, and apparently the place is open since the 80s, but whoever is managing it now is not doing a good job.

Alarm bells tend to ring in your head when you arrive at an all but empty restaurant. Maybe it was quiet because it was mid-Jan, maybe it was the sub-zero weather. After being looked at sideways by a couple of staff we were offered a table (obviously the professional welcome was being saved for weekend diners, kept back as it was a Thursday) Orders placed and food arrived. My wife chose the mushroom starter and I had the soup (lentil, wouldn’t really expect to be able to order minestrone, it’s only an Italian after all). Other couple had chicken tempura which they said was okay. Unfortunately, both our starters were cold/look warm at best. Returned both to the kitchen and eventually came back hot. By which time the others had finished their starters. The waitress kindly removed the cost from our bill. But sadly, that is not the point. Serving hot food in a restaurant is not difficult. Serving not hot food is unacceptable. Maybe I could now understand why the place was empty. Although the staff were ok (my wife was still eating her starter as they cleared the plates) the mains helped highlight why it was like the Marie Celeste. Lasagne: hole tube of tomato purée Macaroni: nice if you like the taste of flour Burger: appeared to be out a packet. Suffice to say we all dodged the coffee and suite. Won’t be back

Was looking forward to a Christmas dinner with friends and hadn’t visited this place for a few years so was hoping it would be good. The place was very empty the Wednesday before Christmas which was a surprise. Service was great but food was very poor - I had beef and my friend’s chicken and pizza. I would recommend sticking the pizza if you go there as there is less to go wrong.

I was totally disappointed and let down by the service on what was supposed to be a memorable occasion. My family had booked a meal for myself and my family and closest friends for my 60 th birthday. It began with an apology from the waitress that there were items not available on the menu as it had been busy the previous night and they had ran out. There were no steaks, no mashed potatoes, no prawns and only four available Christmas dinners from the festive menu. We were also informed that we couldn’t have childrens portions for the three children under 8 in the party. Knowing that there were many items unavailable from the menu I feel they should have contacted us prior to our booking. Having got off to a less than great start, service was appalling. The waitress missed taking some of the orders, the starters came at different times, some of which had to be chased down. This was after waiting nearly 40 mins for any of it to arrive. One of the children was upset and crying because she was so hungry. Some items of the main course also had to be chased down as were forgotten. No desert menu was offered and the only people who were served desert were the four who had ordered from the festive inclusive menu. One of the guests was told she was a fussy customer for asking for a specific drink. As we were the only customers in the building for most of the meal, there was absolutely no excuse for this level of poor service. The whole experience left a bad taste and ruined what was meant to be a lovely memorable night. We could easily have booked elsewhere but believe in supporting local business but if this is what’s on offer we will be looking elsewhere in future.

Went to Cecchini's Ardrossan for dinner last night. On arrival you are met with a nice building overlooking the Marina. The 2 waitresses were polite and helpful but Sorry but that's where it ended, we ordered breads and dip to share (£13). 4 different types of bread which were served cold and stale accompanied by 4 small pots of different oils - total lack of presentation. This dish took a while to arrive at our table considering the small amount of customers in the restaurant at the time.. When the mains arrived, we were told not to touch the bowl containing the Lasagne as it was very hot. As my wife began to cut up her Lasagne to allow it to cool she noted it was cold in the middle. I had the Penne Salsiccia which had little taste but similar to the lasagne had a deep red appearance, possibly too much tomato puree. They offered to provide another Lasagne although we decided not to waste anymore time and asked for the bill. How hard is it to present, heat and serve food. To rub salt in we were charged for the drinks....... changed times from when I worked in hospitality.

Takeaway food was revolting . A pizza that was solid and unsliced, could have been used as a frisbee and if misdirected would have took a window out . cold pasta and inedible haggis fritters !

A quick lunch for two. Clean comfortable restaurant with first class food served promptly. The best Pizza I’ve had in a long time and excellent Macaroni Cheese. Finished off with a fine Cappuccino. Highly recommended

Food wasn’t great. Was expecting much more in terms of quality. Got a dish that looked like tomato soup with a mash that was hard as a rock. Service wasn’t great - we felt rushed and that they wanted to close the place. Atmosphere ok. Price ok but certainly not matching the poor quality of food.

First time visit today and it won’t be our last. Hi praise to the team and the chefs as the food was delicious and all plates were cleaned. Four different mains and three different desserts. We had a lovely relaxing lunch and will be back in due course for a dinner.

Cecchinis is a popular restaurant that serves proper Italian food and we have been to a few times over the years. We booked for 17.45 and drove from Largs, arriving on time. Our meal was delicious but why weren't we offered the Trattoria 2 course set menu @ £16.95 that was available until 6pm ? We paid £48.90 for two × 1 course meals and 2 glasses of wine. Having said that, the Spezzatino and Pollo Toscano were in a class way above anything Italian offered in Largs. We will go back and suggest that you ask for the set menu when you arrive, as it isn't offered. A mistake?

You are missing a trick, cechinnis. I had planned visiting on Sun 31st July for breakfast. I checked your website, which states open 09.30 7 days a week. And your outside sign also states same opening time. But we tried to gain entry several time between 09.30 and 10 am, but you were closed, despite someone clearly visible in the building. Therefore, no breakfast for us, but no business for you. Surely, you have a great potential to capture ongoing ferry passengers thinking the same as me?

There were 6 of us and we went here for our lunch. We all had panini ‘s . I had the haggis which came Luke warm. The sweet chilli chicken was also Luke warm. And the calzone was also luke warm. That was ok but I was really disappointed in the ‘salad’. This consisted of 3 small triangle of lettuce which had been clearly tossed in a garlic mayo ? Sauce and 4 of the smallest crisps I’ve ever seen . I would rather see a proper side salad on the plate one you can actually enjoy and maybe half a packet of crisps on each plate rather than 1/2 a packet between 6 plates and a full lettuce leaf each even ? Just a thought. Nice building though. Try taking a leaf out of the lass o gowrie Perth for a proper salad .

Super Italian fresh braised beef yesterday and it was so good that we came back today. Also the Coffee was the best we had since the last 4 weekse we are on holiday. Really Italian coffee.

We booked a table for dinner after a day trip to Arran. We noticed they advertise outside 2 courses for £16.95 with a picture of a main and dessert. (No times specified). When we arrived, I had to ask for the 2 course deal menu to which the waitress snapped at me, "you will have to get your order in quick as it ends at 6pm". (We booked a table for 5.45pm). This was not advertised outside on their poster. Any other place that offers deals like this, goes by booking time, not when you actually place your order. I then asked what the dessert of the day was, to which she didn't know. This was when she said it wasn't included in the deal, despite a picture of chocolate cake being on their poster outside as part of this deal. My pasta then arrived and had to be sent back as it was cold. It was then brought back to me. Out of politeness I just ate it as I didn't want to create any more of a fuss. However, it was warmer than the first dish but still not hot. I am not normally a complainer...recently visited an Italian in Balloch and Cafe Da Vinci's in Kilmarnock where prices are competitive, much bigger portions and piping hot. The one point is for location, that's about as good as it gets. Won't be back!

Unfortunately actually disgusting. Chicken tempura was coated in like soggy flavourless bread instead of crispy batter. Pizzas had so much like burnt flour at the bottom of the boxes and Parma ham was hard and the burnt flour infected the taste of the whole pizza. My elderly grandfather (who’s birthday we got this for) choked eating his first slice of pizza because of the flour and therefore could not eat the rest. An expensive and deeply disappointing experience. I haven’t ever left a negative review but this food was so revolting I simply had too.
