Deli Il Cardo in North Ayrshire

Loved it. It's just near Morrisons and the train station and serves exciting dishes and good Italian coffee. Others we spoke to have been coming here for years. It was a real find for us as we like going to Largs. Lovely decor. We shared a tray of meats and cheeses.

This was our 1st time in Deli il cardo we met up with family who live in Largs they have been many times. what a lovely place very nice atmosphere food was lovely Great Choice of food and soups. Good value Staff were lovely Definitely return next time in Largs.

OMG - do not hesitate if you are reading reviews and looking for a delicious deli sandwich! We were passing through Largs and contemplating stopping at supermarket to pick up a sandwich when we decided to treat ourselves to something a little more 'upmarket'. The ciabatta with halloumi and sundried tomato and rocket and pesto was everything I dreamed of and more, so fresh and tasty. I wish I lived closer, I would love to try more of the menu based off my single experience. Everything in the deli looked fresh, was reasonably priced, and the staff were really accommodating and welcoming. Will 100% be back next time I'm in the area. Would love to sit in for something next time. 5 stars!

Quick visit yesterday for a coffee. Staff were very friendly & helpful. The food offerings look great and definitely to be tried in the future. We did get some cannoli to take away with our coffee which were superb and great value. The coffee was strong and full of flavour which is just how I like it.

I really enjoy going to this delightful deli/cafe. The food never disappoints and the staff are friendly and attentive. I had a lovely mushroom pasta dish was was very tasty and my friend said it’s one of the best lasagnes he’s ever eaten. They do nice coffee and cannolis too. My late mum really loved this little cafe and we would always have a pit stop there when in Largs…

Excellent deli and cafe,soups are delicious as is all the food,lovely homemade puddings also to take home,enjoyed meal on one the nights they are open later.

Every time we are in Largs this is a must for lunch. The food is varied and has something for everyone and is well priced. Certainly beats fast food hands down.

The best place in Largs for coffee and food. We never go anywhere else! Staff are lovely, friendly and chatty. If we have ever needed help with any info on menu or products, we have always been pleased with response. Toasties, soups, cakes or coffee and lovely italian options. Gluten free is catered for and the bread is much better than any other dining out GF run of the mill options Ive ever had!

We enjoyed lunch at Il Cardo on Wednesday. Delightful service and scrumptious food. Meatballs for him and arrancini for me. Delicious bread. And deli to marvel at. If only we'd had room for dessert or cannoli orcake!

Best Italian food in Largs by far and fantastic value for money. Nice ambience with lovely lighting and Italian music. Staff were all excellent, can’t wait for the next Friday evening anti pasti night. Thanks to all the staff and of course the Chef

Amazing, cafe /deli , staff lovely, food was delicious, recommend the platters and salads, deserts are fantastic too, can't wait to try the pizza and pasta.

As soon as you enter this deli you feel a warm inviting sense, the music, the lay out of the deli shop and the aroma of delicious fresh ingredients. The staff are very friendly and helpful. I bought several items from the deli - pesto, balsamic reduction and pasta. All are exceptional quality. I bought avocado couscous and toffee tiffin for dessert, both were freshly made and super tasty. This is a proper deli with fantastic ingredients, meats and cheeses, breads and cakes. I can’t wait to go back for more ingredients and a sit down meal. If anyone writes a bad review about this place I serious doubt they have even been inside it. It is an absolute gem

Relaxed and interesting place for a coffee

Our favourite place in Largs for food! Always fabulous, with great service.

Popped in for lunch on a Monday. This used to be Tradewinds coffee shop and the transformation is remarkable. Very well done and reminiscent of Valvona Crolla etc. Lots of choice and offers breakfast, lunch and dinner. We both had the cream of courgette soup and toastie. Mine was the brie, chicken and cranberry. My wife had parma ham with tomato and rocket. You get soup and toastie/baguette/sandwich for around £9 which is a good deal, although the sandwich is quite small. Came with a small dressed salad and excellent coleslaw. I must say that I'm not too fond of vegetables but the courgette soup was superb. I could have eaten another bowl. The deli has lots of baked goods on offer too and we had takeaway Canoli for later. Very warm and friendly staff. Lovely wee place.

We have recently had lunch at the Deli Il Cardo. Love the interior there, always interesting to browse the Italian and other products they have - not something you would normally find in a supermarket. Bought a jar of a pear jam there this time. The food was good. My husband had vegetable soup with half a sandwich and I had smoked black ham, avocado and sundried tomato panini. Couldn't resist to get little desserts as well with our coffees which were tasty. The staff were friendly. On the downside, a bit slow service, although the cafe was also empty.

The houme make lasagna was nothinking like houme make Italian lasagna.... full of dolimo souce.. Italian people use proper passata and they putting good quality of mozzarella and not dolimo souce... if was houme make why it's all E numbers?

We had a lovely lunch on Friday with a glass of wine each. Comfortable seating area. Friendly service. bought a bottle of wine on leaving. Great little place for a lunch in Large.

We love this place. We think it serves the best coffee in Largs. When we discovered that they were branching out at doing evening meals, we had no hesitation in booking a slot. Only Fridays at the moment. We were not disappointed. We had the shared platter of cheese and meat [£13 per person]. Goodness, what a feast! The platter was overflowing. We ate far too much [well, we'd paid for it!] and asked for a doggy bag to take the rest home. Well worth the money. I had a glass of red wine to accompany the feast, my husband has the rose, Both were excellent choices. Italian music playing softly in the background, candles, superb food. I recommend this to all of you out there. Leaving Largs, we looked at people eating at the 'chippys', the Wetherspoons and the Indian restaurant. I bet they all paid far more than we did, and for less food. Where's the sense in that? Get yourselves booked in for next Friday, and enjoy!

We went for lunch yesterday and received a very warm welcome and shown to a table straight away. The server was very friendly and it didn’t take long for our drinks to come and the food to be served. I chose Tuscan sausage lasagne with salad and crusty bread, my OH had the Caesar Salad. The portions were very generous and freshly made and we both really enjoyed our meal. I am a keen cook and do pride myself in making a cracking lasagne but, I admit defeat and had to tell the owner that his lasagne was the best I have ever eaten. I should have asked for the recipe! It’s such a shame that we live about 6 hours away from Largs, I would definitely be a regular customer.

Fabulous food served by lovely staff - a little gem in Largs

Nipped in for a coffee which was fine. Stopped on way out to look at the deli offerings in the chill counters at the entrance to the cafe - selection looked delicious living up to the continental ambiance of the place - but and it’s a big but - the chill counter surfaces, shelves and glasses were grubby, stained and quite frankly, dirty looking. Theses areas should be sparkling clean and continue to be cleaned constantly throughout the day. There were plenty staff standing around so no excuses. Staff wore masks behind counter but had them at their chins with one member coughing into her hand. As I said first impressions…….

The food was amazing and the people running it are fabulous. We had a great lunch then ordered the take away platter for our evening meal. Yum!

Excellent soup and baguette and much improved service

Just discovered this place. Coffee and a cake first visit, was good. Just been again, had halloumi, pesto, sun-dried tomato panini and mushroom & tarragon soup to takeaway. Phoned it in, got there in 10 minutes and it was ready. Both excellent, soup so tasty!! Circa £6. I'll be using this place for lunch if I'm in the area from now on. Staff are on point 👌

Visited today with my husband. Had a table booked. We waited just over 15mins to be approached for our order! When the girl did arrive she apologised for the wait, however if they were busy all it would have taken was a quick word saying they were busy but would get to us ASAP-this was not done we were just studiously ignored till she came to serve us. Not great customer impression. The soup and coffee were delicious however and can say we enjoyed them

Variety of lunch choices for meat and non meat eaters .My son scored the burger a 5/5 which is indeed praise from him. The staff were all very attentive,many of the customers were obviously regulars. Two of our party are vegetarian, delicious coffee,both caffeinated and decaffeinated. We would definitely go again , in fact we visited 3 times during our holiday!

Week with my daughter at Seamill Hydro, so we popped in at lunchtime last week, super menu, we had the tarts, so fresh and tasty, deli looked amazing great take home foods, we will be returning soon.

I had the Italian sausage burger, it was quite nice but not the best burger I've ever tasted. We got a £20 platter to take away and I felt it was a little over priced. However the staff are friendly and I would definitely go back to try something else on the menu.

love love Deli el cardo. soups are always lovely. great selection of meats, cheeses and cakes to sit in or take away. love all the pickles and chutneys and extras you can buy. They cater for gluten free too which is great. sit in menu very tasty too.

Both my husband and myself had a lovely cake and coffee today service was amazing great atmosphere also bought takeaway lasagne and olives best ever highly recommend.

Always a good experience. Staff are nice and the place gives the feeling of great food with interesting ingredients. The decor is wonderfully quirky. Few available wines which are acceptable. The menu offers plenty of choice - interesting soups , the chorizo option is recommended. The Italian sausage and cheese panini is great as is the chicken ciabatta. The crepes are also lovely.

As others have stated many times, a LOVELY spot for a meal.

I was staying near to Largs for a few days and thought I would pay a visit to this little piece of Italy in Largs and I have to say I was not disappointed as the food and service was great..I had the soup and chicken crepes in white wine sauce which was so good I returned two days later and had the exact same however there was plenty choice on offer and looking at the menu would also be ideal for those looking for a light bite or coffee and cake,pair this with excellent service and it would be fair to say it’s my favourite eating place for lunch in the area...try it.

I visited Largs trying to achieve a lot in a limited amount of time and only had 20 minutes available before the bus was due. I ordered a brie and onion marmalade panini together with a latte. All excellent, including really good latte, and in time for me to catch the bus.

We'd just arrived in Largs for a week and looking about for a pleasant place - not a chippy - to have a light lunch and get our bearings.

Absolutely lovely little restaurant. Always come here when I'm in Largs and never disappointed...had cheese scone and butter and coffee..scone was bigger than a bread roll...well worth five stars... lovely atmosphere...

The food was delicious but couldn't understand the pricing I was told that I could only have a half portion of soup as that was all that was left but was charged for a full portion. When I queried this I was told that the price was the same. I was puzzled. Apart from that it is a good lunch spot in Largs.

I was looking forward to trying this wee place given my love of Italian food. I was hoping for a home made lasagne or a nice pasta dish but there wasn’t any on the menu. However I noticed on the way out it’s offered as a take away, which I found strange given this could be offered to sit in customers.

Really nice, menu a bit different, on second visit the service does not seem to have got any quicker, but could not fault anything else.

A friendly, efficient venue for lunch. It was busy so it shows that it is popular. I had a brie panini which was lovely. My husband had soup and a half baguette which he thoroughly enjoyed.

Tried this deli for the first time and wasn't disappointed. We ordered the soup and half baguette combo at £7.50 each and 2 Americano coffees at £2.20 each.

The food is delicious and it's such a quaint wee place to go. The staff are so nice and helpful. The cakes are totally scrumptious ...

My partner and I visited Il Cardo today, Monday 27th August, for an afternoon coffee and some sweet treats: my macchiato was good and her cappuccino too, and my vanilla bavois was sweet and firm while her mini cannolo al pistacchio was crunchy and juicy.

Stopped here for a coffee which we modified by asking for a 3/4milk cappuccino, which was fine. It’s the deli counter that wins in this place with so many things to chose from, and all pretty good.

Have visited previously for coffee/pastries and thoroughly enjoyed my first lunch visit this week. Daily specials as well as the deli menu and as this is a licensed premises they have some lovely wines too. Everything is freshly prepared to order . Will be back .

Went in before a wedding a couple of weeks ago, staff lovely and friendly, food lovely and fresh!

Doing a keto diet and arrived hoping for a late breakfast but resigned if necessary to choosing some deli meats and cheese. That was until I asked whether they could help me with a low carb breakfast. What a wonderful response. Was offered scrambled egg with spinach, mushrooms and feta. Lovely to have my needs understood immediately.

We wished we had come for lunch after looking at the menu, but had eaten somewhere else and stopped here for a coffee. I love Italian deli’s and all the wonderful things that they stock. I had a pistachio cream cannoli, my husband had a slice of lemon drizzle cake and we had a coffee each - all fantastic. I also bought some of their deli offerings and some squid ink linguine that I had been looking for for 2 years! A fantastic wee place and the next time I am in Largs I will definitely be having lunch here!

This is a cozy sort of place, and perhaps just far away from the seafront for visitors to miss it. The menu isn't the most comprehensive you'll find, but it does offer interesting dishes. The service is good, too.

I was passing through Largs yesterday and decided to call in for Lunch as I had not visited the restaurant for over a year. The soup and Panini combo were delicious and excellent value. Very good service and 1st class deli. I would highly recommend a visit.

Excellent lunch for four. Very good coffee. Vegan and vegetarian catered for very well. Service was also very good - professional, friendly, knowledgable. The specials of the day were very good. When we come back to the area, we will return to this restaurant.

After another visit to Deli il Cardo, I was very impressed with the platter of antipasti I ordered. Good value for such quality of meats, and loved the more spicy ones.

Visited again today after 4 months away - service much improved, also offering - the soup combo now offers panini and baguette, not just a wrap to accompany. Much more likely to be regulars again provided the service keeps up.

Yummy, hearty food, and great staff in this Italian deli who are always up for having a chat. Lovely choice of fillings for panini and ciabatta. The portions are really big, so you definitely get your money's worth. I will say one thing - while the soup is always very tasty, it's often a tad salty for me! That's my only criticism.

What a find either for breakfast,morning coffee combo, or lunch panini to specials - crepes good but be warned very filling. Soups great too. Staff lovely. And also a deli with lots of things to tempt you on way out try the Black Bomber cheese with the charcoal crackers.

This Deli is as close to Italy as you can get. The coffee is amazing. Pastries yummy. The olives cheese and mortadella are mouth watering.

Very friendly staff, lovely hot cup of coffee and one of the best scones I've ever tasted! Glad we decided to stop and call in. My daughter had hot chocolate and cake. All very satisfied and would definitely call again when visiting Largs.

Having just moved to the area, one of my first priorities was to find a local haunt for great coffee and cake. Not an easy task, however my luck was in. Tucked away on a corner (bar seats fab for people watching!) on The Main Street, Deli il Cardo is the perfect spot. You are spoiled for choice with a wide selection of homemade cakes, scones & pastries to enjoy with your choice of coffee. You'll also be tempted to return for lunch with a tasty selection of light bites, homemade soup, savoury tarts & salads. Their Deli counter is also full of delicious Italian cheeses, olives & antipasti to name but a few. Oh and their Parmigiano Regiano is wonderful. Most importantly, the staff are lovely- super friendly and helpful. All in all a great wee place and I'm a regular visitor already. A must visit if you're heading down the coast to Largs.
