Not sure where to start, visited here recently and was not impressed. Food was basic. Woman in charge with no management skills whatsoever, spoke to the staff like they were idiots to the point at which it was embarrassing. Food hygiene left a lot to be desired. Durham Council needs to get this place on their radar asap. Think twice before wasting your time and money.

Nice Hot Chocolate, Hot Drinks are good. Food very disappointing, the kids pasta was just a plain tin of tomato’s on top. No proper pasta sauce. The scones were dry and unimpressive for £3.20 each. Sandwiches just on normal sliced bread, nothing special. Expensive for what it was, shame as lovely cosy location, nice fire on! Bit more effort on the food and would be a nice spot. Stick to drinks only if you visit.

Visited here as we had been advised it was a little gem. Husband had full English breakfast and I had bacon and egg sandwich, both with coffees. Waitress was very pleasant and food arrived in about 15 mins, all fresh and tasty. Quite busy for a cold March morning. Newspapers available to read and the fire was lovely especially at this time of year. Dogs allowed and they have a takeaway service. Will definitely be coming back...

Called in to the Causey House Tea Rooms on our way home from an appointment. We were greeted by very Jolly and friendly staff who made us feel special as soon as we went inside. The restaurant is full of character and though rustic is very comfortable. The food here is fresh and the portions are good value for money. My wife has a special diet and staff were able to cater for this from the menu. There is ample parking and being situated next to the Causey Arch is an ideal stop off point for walkers. So welcoming, happy and always willing to have a chat. No wonder they have got such a loyal set of customers who go back again and again. They have a new conservatory which makes eating a delight when the sun is out. My family and I started coming to Causey House Tea Rooms about three years ago. We did not know the people there from Adam but were made to feel so welcome that we go an least once a week for breakfast or lunch. Food is superb. Well cooked and presented on beautiful plates. The owners Ann & Bill are perfect hosts and unlike some places they are not frightened to get their hands dirty. Our grandson Mason stole their hearts and always gets a free packet of fruit pastilles from them. Prices are excellent and their food really sets you up for the day. Its just a stone throw away from the actual Causey Arch and makes a great meeting spot. Dogs are more than welcome which adds to the already cosy atmosphere. In the winter there is a superb log burner which throws out amazing heat. You find yourself just popping in but staying longer than anticipated due to its friendliness.

Coming across this little treasure in the pouring rain was a god send! We parked up and ran through the door to what I can only describe as something from a fairy tale. Tucked away in the trees from the outside it looks like a little cabin that could house anything open the door to a million different home cooked smells and the warmth of a sunny day! I assumed the total tourist stance not knowing what to look at and gawping at everything in sight! The wooden dresser, the notice board stating county fairs coming up, the checked table clothes, the hand drawn and painted pictures for sale on the wall after a moment I made my way to the array of cakes on the counter deciding whatever I ate I must finish with something from there! Finding a table and immediately being greeted by lovely staff I was still taking in everything on display whilst thinking I must order soon as the smells coming from the kitchen were making my tummy voice its opinion also! A cup of tea and the best cheese, onion and tomato toastie with side salad came to the table and it tasted better than any toastie ive ever tasted! We enjoyed our tea and chatted noticing that everyone in there was although soaked touched by the magic and just as happy as we were! Malteaser cake had to come home with me which was no problem to the staff as I had already had to taste the brownie with my cup of tea! A real little treasure of a place great staff, great food can't wait to bring my family for a little bit of tea room magic!
