Firstly, reading about the long waiting time, I have called and ordered on the phone before going. I still had to wait for everything to be slowly boxed up by the young girl that was way too distracted. But ok. Fish and chips is good, no doubt. Even a small cod I found reasonably sized. Chunky cod, crispy batter, oilier than expected but better than average, good chips. Lovely calamari rings. Pickled egg and tartare sauce below expectations. Overall £13.50 was good value. In my opinion this place should improve on the details: I find it annoying having to pay 40p for a ketchup sachet, or £3 for the bottle! Mayo/mustard is just not available. I was asked if I wanted salt and vinegar, but not my thing. I got the tartare sauce that is nothing special and disproportionally overpriced (70p). Just put some of those large bottles on the counter for people to help themselves to. A couple of napkins would be good to have too. I would appreciate a choice of salad or coleslaw. Box stuff up before the customer shows up.

Went here for the Romsey Beggar's fair and I was given a bite of my friend's food that they got from Caught. Fell in love with it and despite how busy they were the staff were happy, helpful and super fast without ruining the quality of the food. Highly recommended 👌 😋

Great fish n chips, my experience the chip shop can get very busy at peak times, particularly on a Friday and Saturday evenings. All cooked fresh, really tasty and curry sauce is a winner.

Absolute rubbish dont waste your money ! This is not fish and chips it's just deep fried frozen food you could buy from the supermarket. The chips are not real and the fish the same and tasteless.

if the young girl had gone any slower our food would've been out of date by the time it was handed to us, it was painful watching her move , it was so slow. Perhaps emply a sloth to speed up the process of dishing up our food. Im sure a sloth would also have had a better personality & customer service skills. She clearly didn't want to be there. We were the only ones in so no excuse that she was rushed off her feet. I've never seen anyone take so long to put 2 boxes of fish & chips in a bag. got home to find fish had been rammed into the box and was all broken and cold & a pot of mushy peas instead of the curry sauce we HAD ordered . The chips were stale & tasted like they were left over from lunchtime or even yesterday and the batter on the fish was dry & heavy, the fish was stale, seemed like it was about 4 days old. We won't be returning despite using 'caught' for several years. Don't waste your money here it's dreadful. 4/10 is being generous.

The fish is always lovely and fresh. The chips are great as are the jumbo sausages in batter. Definitely recommend.

Recently moved to the area and was pleasantly surprised to find this gem. Chips were fluffy and cod was well cooked with a lovely crispy batter. Really good portion size - not too big so no food wasted. Fish & chips are sometimes really heavy and craggy feeling but these were fresh and not greasy at all. Will definitely be back!

Normally, I can't stand chip shop chips. These were lovely and crisp with a light fluffy centre - beautiful! The batter is crisp coating the chicken bites and the lovely, fresh and succulent, cod fillets. Medium cod is more than enough for me. Mushy peas were full of flavour and, new to me, served in non plastic containers. We were able to recycle the majority for the packaging. Phoned our order through, as we are at a campsite in Sherfield English, just a quick 10min drive away. Can't fault the service, staff were very friendly and accommodating. Highly recommended.

Well cooked fish and chips with great staff. It was full on tonight, very busy, but they remained calm and focused and gave good service as far as was possible.. Well done Caught.

Very disappointed. £50+ order, with chips missing. The most bizarre thing being that when I telephoned to complain, the manager would not even speak to me but left it to the counter staff to take the flack. Very inadequate management who hide behind their junior staff rather than shoulder responsibility when a simple apology would have been welcome.

Definitely the best in town, quality is sky high. You do pay for it though.

The chips are really tasty - crispy and fresh. We also had a vegetarian burger, which appeared to homemade and was very tasty. Would highly recommend this fish and chips shop.

You mịght enjoy the food, but you'll need to brịng somethịng to do whịle you waịte for them to take your order, then cooke ịt. Ị ordered medịum chịpps, assumed that ị was behịnd long, complịcated orders, but nay, once they had gịven out the 'two-cod-and-chịpps' they got to mịne. The staff seemed confused by the prevịous order requestịng 'salt-but-no-vịnegar', whịch took ten mịnutes to sort out, or maybe they just needed a power-nappe.

Enjoyable meal for a hungry traveller whilst on holiday

I've visited this fish and chip shop on many different occasions and their chips have been excellent every time. One criticism I do have is that you have to wait in line just for a portion of chips. I've stood in the shop for well over 10 minutes. Surely, it would make sense to do small orders when the larger orders are still being cooked.

We have been using this outlet for years and always experienced good service and high quality food. Our last visit unfortunately was really very bad . We advance ordered food for 8 people to celebrate an 82nd birthday. When we got the food home it was very poor quality and very overcooked. i could excuse this if it was maybe toward the end of a trading day but not at 1730. We complained and were invited back into store the following day to meet the manager. When we went back in store the manager was too busy to see us and we had to deal with someone else. The conversation was had in the middle of the store in full view of waiting customers and we were made to feel like we were in someway dishonest and fraudulently trying to secure a refund when all we were after was to explain about our experience. As a result of this poor service and poor attitude i have left this review and will not be going back to this outlet again , which is a real shame but if this is how an unhappy customer is left to feel who can blame me....

Sorry to go against the tide...very disappointed With the quality of the large Cod on Friday,over cooked and dry poor quality fish...individual portion not boxed, both portions of fish in a box with the chips wrapped separately in paper,very poor

Pretty good fish and chips but they could do with some more staff and being a bit more organised. We had to wait rather a while to get our food as they've rather busy and didn't have enough staff to take orders and prepare orders.

Absolutely amazing Chippy! They have the best service, cooked to perfection, everything is fresh and well run. In area where we have a couple of chippys caught is absolutely stunning!

Lovely white Cod covered in crispy crunchy batter. The chips are nicely crisp on the outside and soft and fluffy inside - without lots of 'manky' bits which is great. Their pickles are also first class. A great chippy but you may have to queue as it's very popular.

Me and my family decide to have a quick look around this town called Romsey. When it came time to eat (Because my youngest son, John was hungry) we stumbled across this little place on the corner near the abbey called "Caught" We were greeted by this funny little guy named Cholwe. He first bowed and welcomed us inside. He took out shoes off and asked what we wanted from the vast menu of delicious sounding items. We made our order, and were given a kiss on the cheek each from this fella called Cholwe. We waited and he skipped back out from the kitchen with a grin on his face and fish in his grip. "He you go my wonderful customers!" He said as he graciously handed us the food that we ordered. Once i reached for it he grabbed my hand and kissed it before saying "Enjoy your meal" and then he skipped back to the kitchen. I blushed at the kiss before walking away from the store thinking about this Cholwe fella. I cant get him out of my head, he was just so friendly and funny and i think he deserves a raise and should be the face of the whole place! i love cholwe!

Unbelievably slow to serve two portions of chips. If there is a queue expect service to be frustrating, even if there are chips available they won't give you them because they're waiting for someone else's fish order to fry. Weird business model.

Several years back this place was very pricy. Yesterday got a surprise at how reasonable the prices were and the quality was A1. Also much easier to park than its rival near the Plaza..which I tried to go to first. Used to live in Romsey now just passing thru but next time will go straight to Caught next to the Abbey. Great service, PRICES and QUALITY.

Went in for their gluten-free fish and chips and it tastes amazing, great price too

From hedge end however was in romsey.. felt peckish stopped by and to my amazement. It was the best chippy I've been to FULLSTOP! All food was prepared while you wait so it was lovely and fresh. The chicken chunks were brilliant. Chips perfectly cooked with crunch yet light and fluffy.

Chips were of poor quality with quite a few of bad looking ones in the portion. I didn't like a member of staff who was shouting at the member of staff who was serving and talking to me, I thought it was rude.

I had the pleasure of eating some chips from here just begore lockdown 2 - what a treat. Not the largest of portion size but I had plenty enough, you won't feel you have enough to share (well I didn't but that may say more about me than I'd like!) Crispy outside, fluffy inside and not at all greasy for me a pretty perfect chip. Good location in town by the Abbey. I live in Cupernham so a bit too far to take home so very much an in town eat. Staff were friendly and all Covid rules apllied, let's hope not needed much longer.

Absolutely superb fish & chips. Have started popping in over recent months and on Friday early evening decided to take some home for myself & my wife. As I note has been mentioned by a previous reviewer the sign on the window says a maximum of 3 customers in the shop. On seeing that there was one lady being served & no one waiting, I (masked up) opened the door & started to enter. A lady from being the counter in a most officious & shouty voice tells me to wait outside. I really thought there was some sort of incident happening with the customer being served! When I could enter to order, I mentioned to the lad serving that their sign says max 3. Another lad advises me who evidently overheard that they have to consider others coming to collect orders. That’s fair enough, but how about having signage that advises that? Again though, fantastic Fish & Chips albeit service marred the experience this time, albeit the young guys serving were as good as they always seem to be👍
