I usually love coming in here but the woman was that rude to me I couldn't bring myself to go back. She was arranging the flower arrangements for mother's day and I've NEVER felt so unwelcome and in the way in a shop as I did there. You'd think I was begging for free flowers or something not a paying customer. Thank you to the lady who was taking the bookings I really appreciate your help and patience with how indecisive I was. To the rude bad mannered woman who basically told me to move at every turn as I seemed to be in her way no matter where I stood, turned her back to me until I paid and left and then seeing her run over to her colleague whispering thinking I didn't see as i was walking out the door. Absolutely vile.

Derbyshire is lovely, it has the best range of greeting cards ever, they also do handbags, kiddies toys, gifts, etc. There is a wonderful florist, and at the back is Ron's tea rooms, lovely food, freshly made, and especially tasty cakes. All the staff are so friendly and helpful, it's a super place to go.

We were 4 adults and a toddler, and there was only 1 member of staff, but he managed to serve us a long list of drinks and cakes very quickly, and on beautiful matching tea sets, even with elegant cake forks! It was just what we needed, and I couldn't believe what good value for money it was. I also got my own drink half price by showing my NHS ID badge (the sign outside actually says "free drink for NHS staff" but maybe that's out of date, or only applies to take-away drinks?). Anyway, it was a nice little extra touch, and would certainly draw me in again. We were actually the only people there at that time, and it was lovely - calm, quiet, and comfortable chairs, with no problems accommodating 5 of us round a table. They have a huge choice of cakes - I'd say about 15 to choose from. And the waiter explained all the types to us, and was very friendly. My only negative point would be that there were wafts of cigarette smoke coming in from outside, where some customers were eating on the cafe patio. It's perfectly legal to smoke outside, but a shame that the cafe doesn't take the initiative to ask people not to smoke in their patio, as those inside end up passively smoking too! They can do what they want with their own lungs, but I don't want my toddler exposed to their smoke.

Had some flowers delivered for a birthday surprise. Lovely hand tied arrangement, flowers were fresh and lasted well. 0nly point of note there was no card to say which shop they were from so I had to ask sender so I could review and recommend to friends and family.

Visited here a few times now. The staff are friendly and efficient and the cafe is small but pleasantly and cheerfully decorated; therefore welcoming. We have only tried the tea/coffee and some cakes which have been generally good. One, very annoying drawback – the staff start sweeping later on in the afternoon – we were there about 3.45pm one day and they had already started.Granted they shut at 4.30pm so can fully understand staff wanting to start clearing away so they can make sure they leave on time. From a customer’s point of view, this is extremely annoying. They didn’t sweep under our feet ! but near enough to make us feel uncomfortable. This is something you do not wish to see when coming out for a refreshment break, not to mention the unhygienic aspect of possible dust into our cups and over our food ! – it is very off putting – enough for us to consider going elsewhere in future.Could the café shut say, half an hour earlier, at 4pm instead and NO cleaning gets done till customers have all gone?Other than that can recommend.

After a long walk around a nature reserve, I visited Cathy's tea room. The staff weren't friendly. The tina in my jacket potato was dry and when I asked for some mayo, I was snappily told there was already mayo in it. I was given a small pot of mayo but the tuna really needs to be mashed in adequate mayo before it tops the potato. I was asked if I wanted the salad that was advertised as coming with the jacket. Well, yes, a good salad makes a meal! Iceberg lettuce, a cherry tomato cut into small pieces, a slice of cucumber aimi.arly cut into small pieces. A dash of balsamic dressingand that was it. The most boring salad I've had for a long time. A few more ingrediants and a smallportion of coleslaw wouldn't have gone amiss. My black coffee was good and the cakes looked delicious but I shall not be returning.

I don't know why but I didn't quite know what to expect. A friend and I were looking for somewhere in formby village apart from the usual chain cafes. We were really glad we chose Cathy's. I got the ham and cheese toastie and it was lovely, big thick chunks of ham. My coffee was equally tasty. The cafe itself is pleasantly decorated. I was very happy that we chose this place! Definitely recommended. Next time I'll be trying the beautiful looking cakes!

Saturday lunch on a day wandering around, it’s a few years since we were in Formby and found Cathy’s quite by chance. We are glad we did. The tea rooms is at the back of a marvellous gift shop, we were greeted by smiling staff and customers. Our order was taken and the drinks arrived quite quickly. Our food took a few minutes and was just as we ordered, it was hot and portion size was really good. The staff and customers chatted which provided a smashing atmosphere. There seemed to be many regular customers who were addressed by first names by the staff, always a good sign for me. The coffee is fresh not instant, each tea is made in a pot not in a mug. The choice of home made sweets and cakes looked really good, the specials board is big and prominent which helps if you need spectacles. The tables are clean and tidy and the decor is pleasant and interesting. Prices are very reasonable for a tea room in this area.

Cathy’s is a nice friendly place for a variety of snacks and cakes. Staff are very helpful and friendly and can prepare dishes off menu. The only downside is that toilet facilities are on the first floor so Cathy’s may be classed as unsuitable for wheelchair users. It is though recommended by us.

Arrived late Saturday lunch, not a massive selection of cakes, none that appealed to us so we just had coffees. Nice outdoor area, little sun trap. Good start. Waited. Waited. Thought we may have been forgotten about, especially as tea room wasn't that busy. About 10 mins later we went to ask where our coffees were. We were told they were on their way. They arrived a few mins later. Looked nice. I tried my cappuccino and it was dreadful. Tasted like watered milk. Could taste the chocolate sprinkles but no coffee taste at all. Tried a few more sips thinking it was me. It really wasn't. My husbands black Americano was weak and poor bean quality compared to other coffee shops in the village. I took my cappuccino back. No apology, offered to add an extra shot in my cappuccino, not offered fresh drink or alternative. I declined and said I didn't want it. Asked to pay whilst my husband was drinking his Americano. I was charged for both coffees! When questioned, she then took off the price of my returned (barely drank) coffee. On returning to our table my husband said he found stuck on food (?) on the side of his coffee cup, which only showed the more he drank. Really not pleasant. As I didn't feel comfortable with the slightly hostile atmosphere when I first took my drink back, we decided not to bother going back in to complain again. Such a shame! First time we tried this place. It looked so nice. We really like to try and support non-chain tea rooms/ cafes/ coffee shops but certainly won't be supporting this one again.

Went for lunch with friend last week - our meals were served 30 mins apart, even though the food was just reheated in a microwave. We found it very difficult to get the attention of the staff on two occasions, and one member was quite disparaging when I said I'd have a scone instead of the meal after waiting half an hour - she commented to her colleague "you can't please some people". The meal was delicious when it did come.

Cathy's is very good at what they do, tea and cake. Hidden at the back of Derbyshires (as was), small cafe. The only gripe I have is that it is also the back entrance for the rest of the shop, so people use it as a corridor. Fortunately most people still use the front door.

My friend and I visited for the first time last week, its very small but the staff are so friendly. Everything is freshly made and on this occasion we had cheese on toast with bacon, it was delicious, we went back the next day and had the same again because it was so nice. We have since tried scrambled eggs and ham sandwich, which I must say was made with home cooked ham not insipid ham out of a packet.

This hidden gem at the rear of Derbyshire's shop in the main road of Formby Village is a well-loved gathering place for locals and some lucky visitors. An independently owned family business the atmosphere is friendly attracting many regulars who keep returning for the home cooking. Home-made soups, Scouse, and pancakes are always available along with various sandwiches, wraps and toasties and a lovely variety of home-made cakes and scones. Relatively recently different flavoured ice-creams have been introduced - everything from Bubblegum to Eton Mess flavours. A real home from home atmosphere make this my favourite cafe in Formby.

Cathy's tea room is situated in the centre of Formby village at the back of Derbyshires shop, so consequently the tea room is only open during shop hours. Breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea and snacks are served with a range of home made cakes and scones. The decor is pastel and there is a relaxing atmosphere. It has recently been extended into an extra room and there are tables outside at the back ready for the warmer weather.
