Cathedral73 in Cardiff

Your afternoon tea was bought for us as a gift. We booked a table one month ago for 3pm on the 6th February 2020. Having made a special journey into Cardiff, we arrived at 2.45pm only to be told that there was no evidence of our booking on your system. After much deliberation with the chef, the lady on reception was able to squeeze us in. After our table was prepared, we were shown to a dark and cold dining room. We were the only diners. The lady was very helpful and we were able to choose sandwiches from a small selection. They were freshly prepared albeit only three fingers each. The tea was fine, but the small scones were not home-made (disappointingly) and the cream was squirty and not as advertised in one of your previous review replies as being clotted cream. We asked about this and were told that clotted is not an option. So we made do with butter. The three small (and we mean small) pieces of cake were dry and bore no resemblance to those advertised on your website. We left most of them. All in all, the worst afternoon tea experience that we have ever encountered. Atmosphere was poor and would have preferred sitting in the warm lounge area.

10 of us visited Cathedral 73 on Saturday for their bottomless brunch package and we were so impressed. The service was really attentive and they made sure our glasses were always full. The food was delicious - a really great selection of tapas dishes that were so filling! We will definitely be booking again. Highly recommended and fantastic value for money.

Came Saturday 25th with friends, service was fab food was tasty, gin was bottomless with plenty of flavours even though it was busy there was no waiting time definitely come back soon x

Save your money. Very poor food, and not a lot of it, plus not the menu promised. No sour dough bread and message relayed from the kitchen was that they didn't have any so we wouldn't be having any!! The gin was slow in arriving and the measures were miniscule. I know, we watched them being poured at the bar!! Poor waiter was run off his feet and couldn't keep up with the orders. Left as sober as I entered. The only person slightly annebriated was the guest who had bottomless prosecco because they could not disguise the amount they were giving her. Much better deal for a little bit extra money at The Hilton or Marco Pierre White.

My friend and I came on Saturday afternoon and had the bottomless Gin and Tapas for £20pp.What a bargain!We had the table for 2 hours and there were numerous gins to choose from.The tapas accompanying it were delicious.The staff were very attentive and helpful and we both thoroughly enjoyed the afternoon,would highly reccomend and we will be back.

We came as a family of 5 for a festive treat bought as a gift by my mother. When we arrived, it seems that there was an error somewhere along the way and we had been booked in for a bottomless brunch with 3 kids!!! The staff were very attentive and sorted out the issue very quickly. They sorted santa gifts for all 3 children and were all very warming and welcoming throughout the evening (even with 2 very little ones at full volume). My mum had not informed the venue that my middle child had a dairy intolerance. They were very accommodating and sorted a different pudding to ensure that she was not disappointed. Thank you cathedral 73 for a lovely family evening that was enjoyed by all of us. Mum and dad will definitely be back to sample the bottomless options xxx

We had a fabulous time at the bottomless gin, the tapas selection was absolutely gorgeous and our drinks were constantly refilled. Our server was brilliant and very friendly. Couldn’t speak highly enough of the place and will definitely return in the new year.

We went for our Xmas team meal and drinks- bottomless brunch. We had unlimited drinks of our choice (rum, Prosecco, gin, vodka) for 90 minutes. As well as a tapas dish each with incredible food. The staff were incredibly observant and attentive and noticed as soon as our drinks were empty and would come over straight away. They were extremely friendly and created a lovely atmosphere for us all. We were served by a tall man with dark hair, and a man who was shorter and I think he was a manager. They even gave us a free drink each at the end of the night just because! I would highly recommend this place for events and drinks, it’s a lovely, cosy place, and we will definitely be returning. My partner booked a table here about 3 weeks before our first visit to Cardiff on Saturday 30th November. A few days beforehand the restaurant contacted us to confirm the booking. All set we thought! However, at 3.30pm on the Saturday the restaurant contacted us by phone to suggest we might like to book elsewhere as there would be a party of 65 in the restaurant and we would be the only other table! We were offered the alternative of sitting on a sofa in the bar area where a reduced menu was available. Not quite what we had in mind! After protesting at how unreasonably they were treating us they agreed to try and find an alternative restaurant booking for us. They eventually secured a late table at a nearby Italian restaurant which we reluctantly accepted. We called in that evening to sort out the return of our deposit expecting to receive fulsome apologies. The manager appeared casually indifferent to our disappointment. He, or perhaps the owners, lacked the decency, or the class, to offer us a drink- even when prompted to do so. An abject experience!

Amazing day at Cathedral 73 reuniting with friends for a Bottomless Brunch. The setting was lovely and straight away the service was great. Julie in particular provided exceptional customer service and really added to the overall experience. I have been to a few bottomless brunches before but Cathedral 73 definitely tops them all. Highly recommend and can’t wait to go back :)

The staff were very pleasant which is always a great start to any experience. The setting very relaxed with upmarket deco. We had the Christmas buffet for 8 ladies which was delicious and plentiful. Tried the Cathedral 73 Gin which was delicious. Highly recommended.

I had a lovely tapas lunch with bottomless prosseco here a couple of weeks ago and the food was gorgeous and the service was perfect! Very reasonable considering the amount of food and prosseco we had too!

Attended here for bottomless gin with my friends. Staff were friendly and chatty. The food was absolutely divine. It wasn't something I would have at home or choose at a restaurant but my friends and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Beautiful setting very modern. Can't fault this place. Thank you very much x

Mis últimas dos visitas han sido arruinadas por grupos de mujeres jóvenes que han bebido demasiado. Cuando se inauguró por primera vez, la Catedral 73 era un oasis de decoración encantadora y tranquila, ideal para relajarse y tomar una copa de vino. Ahora un montón de gritos y chillidos. Si esto te atrae, entonces es tu tipo de lugar, de lo contrario, mejor mantente alejado por ahora.

¿Por qué no he estado aquí antes? ! ! ! La comida es increíble, excelente elección y presentación perfecta. Se sentó en el jardín y sintió que podía estar en cualquier parte del mundo. El personal fue muy atento. No puedo esperar para reservar una habitación para quedarme aquí. . También a poca distancia del centro y perfecto para jardines de Sofía.

Un cumpleaños de amigos y tomé las tapas de Prosecco y Gin Bottomless, comida increíble, carne de cerdo para morirse, coliflor asada, ensalada de queso de cabra, wow todo cocinado de fresco, con mucha variedad y para todos, regularmente redondo para llenar nuestros vasos, y la gema absoluta en Cardiff, definitivamente regresará. . . . . . . . Me encantó, gracias!

My title says it all. We walked into this place three times with such expecatations, only to be denied all three times. The menu looked inviting and we were all for the adventure...it's why we kept going back. But each time was worse that the last.

A great place to spend a few hours. Food is seriously delicious, staff are extremely professional and also lovely.

Will definitely return, wanting to try food on main menu. Good afternoon tea and pastries. Would have preferred clotted cream with our scones. Good value for money as we had loads of sandwiches.

I've looked at other reviews and must disagree, small pleasant dining room and very attentive staff. The menu is quite unusual and would not be to everyones taste, but if you try something different expect surprises. We ordered a nice bottle of Portugese

I went on a Saturday evening using a TravelZoo voucher & expected big things. However I should have been warned from the off, firstly we sat down for cocktails which took an age considering we only ordered two. I then managed to cut my hand on the broken toilet door handle so all in all not a great start. We sat down on time & the restaurant was busy without being rammed. Before I had managed to properly read the menu I was told we had a different menu, which was basically a tiny version of the usual menu due to the voucher. The selection was poor but a few things seemed nice enough, we had two waitresses who seemed to be completely oblivious to what the other was doing so we ordered some wine, cauliflower croquettes & migas. The starters arrived promptly, the wine & the cutlery did not... the food was poor to the point of being quite funny the cauliflower looked like something from Iceland with a couple of olives on the side, the migas was what you would expect at a very greasy spoon all very odd. So we finished our starters without any wine as it hadn't arrived. Wine arrived with the mains Chicken breast, as they had run out of thighs & meatballs again no cutlery. The chicken was okay the kind of thing you would expect in Wetherspoons but half the size, the meatballs were meatballs that had been mangled & we both had chips as a side no sauces offered. In between courses we had been entertained by one of the waitresses going back to two tables to ask what the orders were and take complaints from a table who had been waiting an hour for food & then offering a complementary drink which didnt arrive for over 40 mins. For desert we had chocolate torte it was minus ice cream as they had run out but it did come with a spoon, so some progress. 8 must admit I had fun because it was quite hilarious but the service & food was comically awful & had I paid full price I would have been raging. Won't go back the sequal wouldn't be funny.

Ate here with the travelzoo voucher. Service was average - seemed very disorganised and staff unsure of what was going on. Menu was limited but also uninspiring. Food quality was okay. Not good value for money.

Sorry but this is a beautiful building spoilt inside by poor quality good and service The sandwiches were past their best with the cakes having a acid taste to them Crumbs on the table and carpet is very off putting We will not be going back

Good food and would have been a very enjoyable experience if we hadn't been given a table right next to a party of 20 people. We gave up trying to chat to each other. Staff were pleasant and service was faultless.

Lovely evening with friends. We reserved an area in the bar for the evening. The staff were very accomodating of a large group. Cocktails were lovely and reasonably priced. We had an absolutely brilliant evening and will definitely be back! Thank you!

Comí en este encantador restaurante la semana pasada, había comido aquí antes, pero escuché que había un nuevo menú, así que pensamos en probarlo. La comida era increíble teníamos cuatro platos entre dos de nosotros, que era suficiente. Comenzamos con Arancini, que era muy sabroso y tomates de temporada. luego tuvimos las albóndigas que estaban deliciosas, entonces las gambas también eran encantadoras y finalmente tuvimos un bistec con patatas fritas triples, el bistec era tierno y muy sabroso y las patatas fritas eran fabulosas. El único inconveniente era que no teníamos espacio para el postre, que parecía increíble.

Realmente decepcionado, los pasteles eran encantadores pero los bocadillos el pan era duro. El personal no estaba muy bien informado y el servicio fue lento, lo cual es sorprendente, ya que solo necesitan tomar nuestra orden de bebidas ya que el té de la tarde estaba pre ordenado. No creo que nos apresuremos a regresar.

Such a shame. Menu was promising. Despite pre-ordering, one of the items was still unavailable. Food was overall very tasty, but ruined by the abysmal service of in particular one member of staff.

We tried this restaurant out using a Travelzoo voucher and had a great experience. The menu is designed to share which we love. Very much tapas style and nicely presented and very tasty. Wine is reasonably priced and service very good and friendly. We will certainly return soon.

Fabulous afternoon tea, lovely venue for a baby shower. The food was delicious. Service was fantastic and staff were very accommodating and super friendly! I’d definitely recommend for afternoon tea.

Four of us went for an evening meal at Cathedral 73. We had a Travelzoo voucher for 3 course a la carte meals, for 4 people. I assume it was because we had a voucher that the menu selection was so small. There was 3 starters, 3 mains and 3 desserts to choose from.

I booked afternoon tea as a treat for my Mum and I, there was a deal on in December that was £9 per person for afternoon tea bookings in January, bargain! Cant knock the price, I am assuming this is to get footfall in what can be a quiet month and to spread word of mouth of a venue that isnt so well known in Cardiff ... it was so disappointing!

I went there with my wife and two boys - 7 & 11 - for a treat. Booked for 3 since assumed the boys will have enough sharing one adult portion... and ended up having to order top up sandwiches since they loved them and my wife and I almost had no chance to eat any. Cakes were delicious and plenty. They refused to charge me any extra for the top up sandwiches. I presume the boys being very well behaved - for once - helped. Lovely atmosphere, very relax dinning room, friendly service, delicious food. Will definitely be back.

We had a great night at Cathedral 73 restaurant! My colleagues and I went for a food after a busy day at work and I must say ,it was an amazing experience. The service was great ,food was yummy and their wine selection was superb. I will certainly be back there! Special thank you to the owner and Neil the manager of the place.

I booked this place for my pending baby shower to celebrate in style with family and friends,unfortunately the manager was unable to efficiently deal with any of my requests for meal options, even taking down my email incorrectly and then failing to receive the food options. He also presumed I had booked the venue on a Sunday and sent me out the Sunday roast menu by accident, confusing my party a great deal further.

We visited this fabulous restaurant on Friday evening and wow, what a stunning place; just oozing style and elegance. As soon as we walked through the door we knew this was a special place. We ordered the hake goujons and Bao bun to start and both were delicious. For main we opted for the pork belly and lentil curry; not only did they look good but they tasted amazing. I’ve had my fair share of terrible excuses for pork belly in the past and this was hands down the best I have ever had! We are not normally desert people but were blown away by the chocolate indulgence and coconut slice. We have been very disillusioned lately with eating out in Cardiff but thankfully have now found this place. Everything was perfect - thank you and we’ll definitely be back!

We visited on a travel zoo voucher 3 courses for 2 at £29 which was good but very limited to 2 courses available one a vegable curry the other pork belly so limited on choice.It didnt have that relaxed restaurant feel to it and we were in and out on three courses in an hour but worth the try even if the food on this deal was very limited.

We had an amazing meal and dining experience. There were no other guests which I cannot understand and I hope this doesn't end up with a business unsupported by locals. The food was delicious well timed and the premises was smart and welcoming. We had a great evening and I would love to hear others enjoying an experience there too.

Cathedral 73 is a hotel, which from the outside looks quite posh. It’s beautufully decorated inside and the staff are really welcoming and friendly. They have a wide selection of gins and their Espresso martinis are great value, 2 for the price of 1 every day.

Took my nan here for Sunday lunch on Sunday just gone , it's the 3rd time we have visited now and were not disappointed . the food is always presented beautifully and menu changes from week to week so there is always something different to choose. The staff are always really friendly too will deffinatly be back soon

I visited the restaurant on recommendation from a friend, who had been and I wasn’t disappointed. They have a simple menu but the food is really good. It is packed with flavour and the grazing style leaves you definitely wanting and orderling more. Tapas at its best.

I went for Sunday lunch last weekend and i couldn’t fault it, you could tell it was made with real passion. The meat was really tender and Yorkshire puddings were made to perfection. The staff were also very helpful and welcoming. I recommend visiting because I definitely will be again

Lovely home cooked food, large portions, great presentation and yummy desserts. The Yorkshire puddings are huge :-) Staff are welcoming and friendly and there are a lot of choices of wine and gin, and they even do 2 for 1 cocktails on a Sunday

My friend and I visited the Orangery at Cathedral 73 recently and thoroughly enjoyed every morsel of the stunning afternoon tea.

This place had the 'wow' factor as soon as I walked in, where we( friends and I)were immediately met by friendly and courteous staff.

Le dije al chef que era casi tan bueno como Nopi en Londres, y desde ese uno de los mejores restaurantes en los que he estado, eso fue un verdadero cumplido. Los platos mostraban una amplia gama de estilos: muy buen bistec en salsa italiana de marsala, gambas con fideos crujientes con aliño tailandés. Excelente servicio también. Muy recomendable.

Un lugar realmente genial, pensé en probarlo. Un gran servicio, cócteles baratos que fueron sorprendentemente buenos! Bajó de Londres con la familia reservamos la capilla en Cardiff, pero fue confusión con la reserva, nos aconsejaron probar la catedral 73 por un miembro del personal. Bueno, la comida era increíble, definitivamente comería mucho Moore si viviera en Cardiff, es una visita obligada si alguna vez estás en Cardiff, no te decepcionará, el personal es muy amable y el servicio fue excelente.

We stayed at Cathedral 73 last week and decided to try their new restaurant and new grazing menu, which was amazing. There were four of us and we started with six small plates which were delicious, the cauliflower croquettes, and the arancini were particularly good,we then had four large plates and sides of triple cooked chips which were delicious. We also had desserts of almond cake and roasted pineapple which were also lovely.

I went for food at cathedral 73 the other day with my family. On arrival we ordered food and the first plate came within the first 5 minutes. The croquettas and spring rolls were absolutely amazing, The staff were very helpful and gave us recommendations on what drinks to have, based on our choice of food, The new grazing menu is a great way to eat and I strongly recommend it.

Wow where I do I begin.... I would highly recommend cathedral 73! The restaurant itself looks amazing! The decor makes it feel elegant yet welcoming! At first I thought as it looks so elegant it would be too posh and pretentious but this is far from it. Such a relaxing vibe and staff couldn’t do enough for you. Anyway let’s get to the best part the food! Wow the tastes are out of this world! We tried a wide range off the grazing menu and were not disappointed by any! In fact can honestly say the best meal we have had so far! Thank you so much.i would highly recommend you to try here as you will not be disappointed. 10/10

Fuimos el otro día para una comida para un cumpleaños de amigos la comida era increíble, tienen un nuevo menú de pastoreo que fue excelente me encantó el bistec y rollitos de primavera y el desierto era fantástico, el servicio era muy bueno y el personal muy amable sin duda volveremos

Delicious food in elegant surroundings. Asia crab salad was delicious as was the peanut granola. Superb attentive staff. Would recommend this restaurant.

23 of us had afternoon tea with no complaints. The venue, food and atmosphere was fab and the staff were great. The selection of sandwiches suited all and the cakes were amazing. Looking forward to go back to try Sunday lunch.

3 of us had afternoon tea last weekend. I would have scored it 3.5/5 if half points was an option. The service was good and venue was pleasant. Sandwiches were exceptional; neatly cut into uniform fingers with tasty fillings and no dry edges in sight! They were clearly freshly cut. The cucumber and mint filling was especially nice as the combination of flavours worked well and was more sophisticated than the run of the mill sandwich fillings which are normally served in an afternoon tea.

On arrival we were told only the bar menu was available as there’d been a “mix-up” in the kitchen. I ordered the vegetable pizza, which should have included spinach, mushrooms and olives. None of these were on my pizza. All I had was a base similar to a burnt crisp, with a few slices of onion and red pepper, and which was absolutely tasteless. I complained to the waiter (who was very apologetic) and was offered a new pizza. The first one had taken ages to be made, so I declined. I had also ordered a side salad, but this was not provided. I reminded the waiter, who admitted he’d forgotten to order it. When it eventually arrived, it was nothing more than a handful of leaves out of a packet with one slice of tomato. No dressing. I asked for dressing and the waiter brought a squeezy bottle of balsamico to the table. Again, this was absolutely tasteless. To his credit, the waiter did not charge me for my meal, but we will certainly not be going back to Cathedral 73.

Really disappointing visit today for a Mother’s Day afternoon tea. The quality of the food is just really poor- uninspiring and I’d have made better at home! The sandwiches were very average, then the Victoria sponge cakes were really stale, macaroons were horrible and the scones which we held out some hope for were just ridiculous! Very flat and dry. We left most of all the food so when the waitress asked if everything had been ok, I did give say we were really surprised and sorry to say we just felt it was really poor. She was polite but defensive about all the cakes so i said fine I guess we can just put it down to personal preference. The bill was not reduced - I really felt they should have offered a discount at the very least. It’s about the third time I’ve been and I won’t be going back- sad to say is just so amateur and lacks any class. The staff should have handled it far better. Zero style!

On arrival greeted by a friendly, helpful lady which helped carry our bags to the room. Advised they had taken over the hotel in November.

We were staying here for a few days so had breakfast on 2 occasions. Enjoyed a 3 egg omelette with cheese and ham. The omelettes were well filled, and had plenty of Tea, juice and toast to go down with. There were options to add additional bacon, sausages and other items too.

Teníamos el desayuno aquí ambas mañanas de nuestra estancia en el hotel increíble, precioso ambos días! El desayuno estaba incluido en el precio de la habitación, pero era muy razonable si habíamos pagado. El desayuno vegetariano es uno de los mejores que he probado, el Glamorgan salchichas son tan delicioso! Una decoración preciosa y el personal no puede hacer más por ti y son muy amables. El té de la tarde es muy razonable, no tener tiempo esta vez, pero sin duda volveremos e intentaremos entonces!

Tenía el té de la tarde allí con dos amigos el otro día. Habíamos estado significa para probarlo por un tiempo, pero no dieron la vuelta. Costo es de £16. 95 por persona e incluye perpetuo top ups. También tienes una selección de 4 canapés, salmón ahumado y crema de queso, jamón, queso, chutney y levadura y pepino y menta crema fraiche. Estos será seguido por una selección de pasteles y tartas mini y luego bastante decepcionante, bollos y pasteles tienda comprado galés. El servicio fue rápido, de hecho, un poco demasiado rápido que llegamos y nos pidió no sólo quieres café ya no sirven almuerzo - aunque el día anterior nos dijeron que no y que era el té de la tarde que había que reservar con antelación. Cuando llegamos allí nos dijeron que el frente y el propietario/gerente, que era un muchacho muy agradable y nos dijo que intercedía sentarse y que podríamos, de hecho, tome un té de la tarde sin reserva. No nos preguntaron si teníamos alguna particular requisitos sólo si queríamos té o café y el té apareció 10 minutos después. Para la mayoría de la gente este no sería un problema, pero si eres vegetariano y no comer jamón o si tiene una alergia, entonces podría ser. Como era, mis amigos y yo intercambiamos bocadillos como necesario y lo disfruté. El entorno es elegante, pero se podrían beneficiar de la música de fondo. Los baños estaban impecables y si desea sacar el bote y hacerlo una ocasión realmente especial tienen un Rolls Royce color primrose que puedes preguntar de ser conducido hasta el lugar! Un toque encantador si es un cumpleaños especial o aniversario. Esta fue la primera visita, pero probablemente volvería en el futuro.

Attended Cathedral 73 for a second time for afternoon tea along with 8 friends and everything was just perfect. The staff (Simon) couldn't do enough for us and the food especially the sandwiches were superb. I am looking forward to visiting again!!

Tomamos un desayuno completo galés después de pasar la noche en el hotel. La comida era precioso y tenía una agradable conversación con el chico que trabaja allí (lo siento, no tuve tu nombre! ! ).

Me decepcionó después de visitar el bar/restaurante de 73, la decoración es increíble, pero hay cero ambiente. He tenido un espectáculo alrededor de las habitaciones y son increíbles, pero es cara.

Fuimos para el té de la tarde para celebrar el cumpleaños de un amigo y quedamos muy contentos de hecho que habíamos elegido no 73. El comedor no es muy grande y muy elegantemente decorado. La vajilla y cubertería eran de primera categoría. Teníamos una camarera encantadora que explicó que podíamos haber como mucho y como muchos tipos diferentes de té ya que queríamos acompañar nuestra comida. Tuvimos que esperar bastante tiempo antes de nuestra comida era trajo pero valió la pena la espera. En un stand compartido entre 2 cada uno tenía cuatro canapés delicada llena con salmón ahumado, queso y mermelada de cebolla, jamón, mostaza y pepino con lo que parecía ser un yogur de vestidor; el pan era de buena calidad. Idealmente me hubiera elegido tener más dulces, pero las tartas eran una delicia. Cada uno tenía una hermosa húmeda de chocolate brownie, un mini choux hamburguesa de rellenos de crema fresca y cubiertas con chocolate, una gota diminuta tarta bakewell cubiertas con un macarrón de frambuesa, un fresco y un vaso lleno de un precioso disparo de fruta de la pasión posset. Después devoraba estos nos trajeron bollos calientes y tartas de tuberías galesas de mermelada de frambuesa, crema de limón y crema de leche. Los pasteles galeses nosotros derrotados, pero los llevamos a casa y los disfrutamos más tarde.

Algo diferente con té de la tarde en 73 muy agradable en un entorno encantador una selección de sándwiches y tartas poco seguido por los bollos frescos pasteles galeses horno y servido con crema y mermeladas. Puede elegir entre una amplia selección de cafés y tés de hierbas incluido o como parte de nuestro grupo eligió un vino. Fue encantador para tomar tu tiempo con nadie que apresurándose a lo largo. Volveremos a disfrutar de la experiencia de nuevo.

I have been here multiple times for breakfast on a Sunday morning and coffee/afternoon tea. Always beautiful. Great service. Sunday morning is very peaceful to sit down with one of the complimentary newspapers and a coffee!

We had Easter Sunday lunch here today and were blown away .From the minute we walked in the staff were friendly , attentive and went above and beyond to help us .We were given a great table by the window and were very impressed with the stunning decor.The food was superb - from the choice of buffet style starters, to the delicious main course and then the gorgeous desserts .Have already booked to return and have recommended to others.This is the jewel in Spiro Borg's crown - a must try !!

I work just down the road from Cathedral 73 so decided to try it when I wanted to take a work colleague out for lunch. We arrived at 12pm hoping to leave by 1pm for meetings and thought this would be more than long enough for a one-course lunch. We had ordered by 12.10 but our food didn't arrive on the table till just after 1pm, even though the place was empty apart from one other couple. We ended up not getting back to the office till 1.40. The food was great but I wouldn't risk going there again as the service is so slow - and the waitress didn't apologise even though she must have realised 50 minutes had passed since our order when she eventually put the meals on the table. A few colleagues back at the office mentioned they'd also tried Cathedral 73 for lunch and had similarly slow service, so sadly they're missing out on business from local companies because workers can't take two hour lunches. A real shame.

Had read some decent reviews of this place for afternoon tea...was very disappointed. Food was shockingly bad. I have never seen such doorstop cucumber sandwiches. The cakes presented were tiny facsimiles of a mince pie and either Christmas pudding or Christmas cake...the waitress wasn't sure ! They were stale and unpleasant. The only redeeming feature was the scone.We were told we could have as much differing teas as we wished but we had to ask for fresh tea. It is served in plastic teapots which cool very quickly.Too expensive for such poor quality.

This is an awesome boutique hotel,, we attended a wedding reception here at the weekend and were blown away by the understated decedance, warm and friendly staff, fantastic food and quirky interiors. I would love to opportunity to stay here as its the kind of hotel I normally book.

My parents and I went for afternoon tea at 73 Cathedral Road, Cardiff at 2.30 pm on Tuesday October 27th 2015. We wanted to try number 73 as we were looking for an afternoon tea venue for a larger party at the end of the year. Sadly we will not be returning to 73. The only positive I can offer from the whole experience is that the staff were polite. The drinks were as expected but the cream tea itself was appalling and an insult to offer to customers. We had informed the venue of a few dietary needs before hand. The sandwiches were meagre; the scones if not stale were extremely hard and not edible. The ‘hand made cakes’ featured on 73’s website were not cakes at all but bought in petit fours – in fact I recognised one as a cut up Thorntons square! Having cut into the scone we decided we were not staying or paying and told the senior member of staff of our concern. She said they were experiencing problems at the moment as they had a new chef and said fresh scones were being baked at the time. If that’s the case why offer stale ones? There was no disagreement from the staff member of our assessment of the cream tea and she agreed we should not pay. She did offer that we could finish the tea free of charge - an offer we declined. The venue obviously knew they had problems on that day; why not be honest when you arrive and offer a reduced charge or rebook on another day with a money offer voucher. At least they keep their reputation and avoid reviews like this! Overall a total disappointment to say the least and a score of 0.5. It would have been nil but I award a half mark because of the politeness of the staff and dealing with our complaint without quibbling.

My friend treated me to afternoon tea at Cathedral 73 for my birthday and we thoroughly enjoyed. The room itself is wonderfully decorated, very classy but comfortable at the same time. We were welcomed upon entering and the service was very warm and friendly. I thought the drinks list was quite extensive for afternoon tea, which was lovely as it meant there was plenty of choice. I ordered a glass of Prosecco to go with my afternoon tea and my friend ordered a raspberry soft drink. The afternoon tea came with a tea of your choice, I ordered the blackcurrant and hibiscus tea which was fruity and delicious. The afternoon tea came with set sandwiches, which were fresh and tasty. Although my friend and I both agreed that it would have been nice if we informed of the fillings as neither of us like salmon and would have preferred a different filling instead. The cheese and chutney, ham, and cucumber sandwiches were lovely! We had two small, flat, scones each which were served with cream and jam, and a selection of mini cakes and pastries to finish the afternoon tea. Overall we were both very impressed and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves! We'll definitely be back!

Came here with a few friends for afternoon tea and we all really enjoyed it. The scones were delicious as was the rest of the food. The only downside was that compared to other places I don't feel there was much food and the tea choice was quite small.However I recommend people trying out the Afternoon Tea. The staff were really helpful and the decor inside was lovely.

What a lovely place. Friendly staff, clean and welcoming. We had afternoon tea for my daughter's hen party and she was running late. They were very understanding and we did not rushed to finish. We all had a fantastic time. They put us in the back (conservatory) where it was more private. The food was great and plenty of it. Would defiantly go there again.

This looks like a typical large town house converted into a nice restaurant. Parking close-by, 10 minute walk from the city centre, on a busy bus route in a tree lined city suburb (Pontcanna). Ideal position for Millennium Stadium and the (Wales) Sophia Gardens Cricket Ground.Coffee was good, cakes looked superb. A very nice looking menu - a decent meal for £15 pp. Sunday lunch for £15 pp. Freshly cooked food and very tasty. Soya milk for those who have a "dairy" problem. It has a nice outside sitting area.In all, a quick snack and coffee that turned into a nice stop before heading home.

Lovely clean restaurant, good choice of menu. I have been here before during the week and enjoyed the experience, but today I tried the Sunday Lunch. I had roast beef and home made yorkshire puddings. Vegetables were fresh and tasty. Loved the roast potatoes. Would have preferred the beef to be on the rare side, but tasty and lots of gravy. Great choice of desert and all reasonably priced.Staff were very friendly and helpful.

Went for lunch with a friend and loved the warm welcome and such attentive service. The food was of excellent quality and the trio of desserts were just amazing!! Will defiantly be back as the menu looked lovely especially the afternoon tea .

We had afternoon tea for two. We were dissappointed with some of the service - the waiter looked really annoyed as the table was originally booked for four but two of our party cancelled late in the day, the place was very quiet when we attended so we could not understand the reaction! They took about 10 minutes to ask if we wanted a drink. The tea was lovely , the selection of finger sandwiches and cakes etc was quite small for the price, some of them were really good whereas others I could have made better myself. There is pleasant atmosphere. We would be willing to give it a second try.

A lovely tea room with great selection of tea and homemade cakes. A live pianist was a really nice touch. The decor is superb and will definitely return to try the lunch menu and wine selection.

A good selection of light dishes and larger portions. Not really a dessert menu but a selection of homemade cakes - generally good but some that members of our group had were a little dry. Do not yet do an evening menu.

The peace I refer to is the calm and welcome received here on the day of a Wales/England rugby match. Super friendly people which encourages me to return for a full meal experience. It was comfortable, roomy and not full of people who would rather push and shove to get a drink at a lower price - and then spill most of it!

Great food and lovely place. My girlfriend and I had a Valentines meal here last night. The food was amazing. I ate at the clinc last year and this was a very similar menu but may just have been better. The place is so clean and the staff are very nice. The wine was lovely and a good price (under £15). All my 5 courses were lovely. Only two things that I would like to have seen done different here. 1 Where you use the toilet at the back, the area needs to be more presentable. For such a fine place this just doesn't look good. 2 my girlfriend found plastic in her desert as she ate it. These things happen but I grew up in a hotel and in these situations a complimentary drink makes all the difference. I do believe she should of been given one here. Not me but her. Just as a sorry. I know these things happen but it's how you deal with them that's important. These were very minor problems and over all this place was amazing and I will be back and already have recommended it to friends. The owner of manager was also very nice and did ask at the end was everything ok ect but it is hard to bring thing up face to face. Over all excellent.

my boyfriend booked this for valentines and I was very excited. it was a set menu and I could not fault it. canopies were delicious, curried parsnip mabousce was fab. we both had duck for main, I reallly enjoyed it however I am more fond of irish duck I have had in the past, but on a whole the main was top notch. For desert we got a trio. each one was beautiful in its own way, however I found a piece of greaseproof paper in my cheesecake which wasn't very pleasant to eat. ...I did tell the waitress and the best she could offer me was a replacement. I thought due to the standard of the restaurant they could have offered us a glass of wine or something more for an apology. dont get me wrong the waitress was very friendly and helpful but I think she could have handled the situation better.overall it was excellent however that incident did lower the experience for us.......
