What a lovely lunch we had today. The food was fantastic ( thank you to the chefs ) and the service was great. Just the right amount of time between courses and all served with a smile. The food here is lovingly created, cooked and served and you can taste the time and effort . Brilliant 😊

My husband booked this months in advance and checked they could accommodate me having coeliac disease. When we arrived they I let them know again I have Coeliac disease and they also had it noted down. However their idea of accommodating my dietary requirements is to give me the same dish as my husband with the gluten item removed. So one dish which should have had a little donut as part of it, just came without it and another dish which was a mini cheesecake just a dollop of the topping minus the biscuit base! When you eat at these high end types of restaurants the dishes are supposed to be a taste sensation with everything eaten together not missing key elements. I really thought they’d have the skills and ability to replace the gluten in my dishes with an equivalent or they should have said right from the start they couldn’t accommodate me at all and we would have found somewhere else to eat. To top it off I was charged the full price of the menu.

Went yesterday for lunch with five friends Great location (9/10) Superb food (9/10) Great value (9/10) Service was efficient enough but the staff just seemed so ‘flat’. No one looked like they were having fun/ enjoying working together/ looking after the customers. Sadly, as a result, we felt we were eating in a library which was a bit soulless Maybe it’s just me, but happy, lively, interactive/ enthusiastic staff are part of the secret sauce for a great experience Would definitely go back and recommend PS it wouldn’t take much to fix the above

We can’t praise the food enough - it was 5 star excellent! However, the service left a lot to be desired! The Maitre d was disinterested and lacked enthusiasm! Admittedly we were a little late but I don’t feel this should have affected our experience seeing we were prepared to fit in with the kitchen staff who seemed to be more friendly than the maitre d herself! Briefly, we had to wait for our drinks. The Kir Royal was not available due to the bank holiday!! When asked about the wine pairing she was disinterested to sell this ! We had to constantly ask for our wine to be topped up and the Ladies were not served first! We had to wait with empty glasses before ordering a 2nd bottle - and we had 2 empty soft drink bottles on the table throughout a couple of the courses! As we were celebrating an 80th birthday we felt the service disappointing and certainly did not represent the acquired standard to warrant a Michelin star. Finally, we do highlight the food as this was exceptional!

So looking forward to this fish experience...and we came away very disappointed. The two stars I have given were for presentation and our first course which was better than the rest.Service was also good. Following two courses were overpowered by coriander....no other flavour came through, and the final course had no flavour at all.

Given the reviews and personal recommendations we arrived with high expectations last night. These were mightily surpassed. What an extraordinary culinary experience. The tasting menu was liquid gold - the mixtures of taste and textures across a rainbow of seafood. From amuse bouche of beetroot/roe to verbena/pea soup to strawberry/pepper refresher. It was difficult to choose a stand out. For me the tuna three ways (oh that ragu!) for my other half, the stunning gurnard and then the sorbet/stawberry heaven. Sorry no pictures. They don’t do it justice. Just go.

The best meal I have had in a very long time. Every mouthful was a joy - delightful different flavour combinations with exceptional standard of fresh products. You could tell a lot of thought and love went into every course. Favourites were the pea and cod croustade, the mackerel tartar with pickled elderflower and the jam doughnuts were a gorgeous zingy bomb that took me right back to childhood puddings! We had a fab waiter who really entertained us and made the whole experience more special and personalised. I would recommend to anyone who wants to try super fresh, seasonal seafood showing off what the sea around us has to offer. I haven't stopped talking about this place.

THE SERVICE WAS HORRENDOUS. We had the most terrible experience upon arriving at Catch in Weymouth. There was a misunderstanding about our reservation. We paid £90 to reserve our table. Upon arriving, they refused to seat us. The reason given was that we had our 6 year old daughter with us. This was very unfortunate as we were all looking forward to celebrating a birthday and our daughter loves to eat fish. The evening was to be a special treat for her. To be clear: the no child policy is visible when looking at their website on a laptop BUT MUCH LESS SO ON A MOBILE PHONE. The mobile/app version is extremely ambiguous and opaque. The type and font (on a phone) are very small). When you look at the reservations page on a laptop, the policy about Children is clear. However, we made our booking on a phone. When you book on a phone, the calendar tool for making bookings comes BEFORE the big paragraph about children. As such, one would never see this paragraph unless they scrolled BELOW the booking tool (which we clearly had no reason to do, once the booking was made!). Before the booking tool on the phone, there is one brief mention of children buried in another paragraph... but anyone needing reading glasses, could easily miss this when using their phone to book. On top of all this, the concierge at our hotel, had also called for us in advance. This is relevant because it is common knowledge that the hotel we were in SPECIFICALLY caters to families. The host at Catch acknowledged this when we spoke to him upon arrival. It would have saved everyone a lot of pain had he mentioned this (very odd) policy to our concierge when he spoke to her on the phone. He did not. Despite our disappointment at being refused entry with our daughter, we were fine to accept this outcome. However, things then only got worse. As they later admitted to, this was not the first time such a thing had happened (which begs the question: what have they done to avoid this situation?). We would have been happy to walk away and find somewhere else to eat, but we did ask for our £90 deposit to be returned given the lack of clarity on their website (when using a mobile phone) and the call earlier that day from the hotel. The situation was clearly a misunderstanding. One of the owners and chefs (Mike Naidoo) then spoke to us directly. Instead of handling the situation with kindness and respect, he was arrogant and downright rude. HE REFUSED to return any money whatsoever. He then also pretended like he did not have the authority to return our money (despite admitting he is an owner/shareholder in the business). He also refused acknowledge the lack of clarity about how their website looks on a mobile phone. Lastly, he then told us the only way we would see our money was if we ate downstairs, outside at Hatch despite it being a chilly evening and none of us being dressed for outside dining. Hatch has a completely different menu and wine list and does not have a toilet for their diners (our daughter was allowed to use the staff toilet when she needed one). We did not want to eat at Hatch but were given no choice as it was this, or completely lose our money. Wow. Catch restaurant does not deserve the accolades it has, in our view. Their arrogance was appalling. The rudeness of the owner was disgusting. I had to ask my wife to walk away with our daughter, from the discussion, so that she would not witness what was taking place. A sophisticated establishment would have handled our situation with grace and integrity. Had they done this, we would have happily come back, another day, without our daughter in tow. Sadly, Catch at The Old Fish Market is apparently not run , nor owned, by individuals that exhibit any form of class, whatsoever. The handling of the situation by the one owner we met in person (we understand there is also another "main" owner) made the whole place feel like a we had just been scammed by some street, con-man. There are many good fish restaurants in Weymouth. Our personal recommendation is that you avoid this one.

We were here for a lunch on a sunny Friday and had a very high quality and enjoyable meal. The restaurant is very professionally organised and the tasting menu format means that you know exactly what you are going to get, but that was made very clear from the website and was absolutely fine for us. The food was excellent throughout and, while one might say that the portions were not huge, that was sort of the point, it's much more satisfying (and healthier) to have smaller portions where every taste and ingredient has a meaning and we left really satisfied. The staff were extremely professional and well-organised but also friendly and made us feel really welcome. While not super-cheap, the prices were very reasonable for the excellent quality on offer.

Four of us went for lunch in mid June. I think it would be fair to say we could not fault the quality of the fare and indeed the service but in saying that I could not help feeling this was a restaurant where the balance was materially skewed in favour of the shareholder. The restaurant always knows in adavnce the number of covers so there is probably negligible waste in the catering process. The menu ( being a 'taster' ) provides no choice; the portions are small and there will be no waste otherwise you would go hungry. All in all a model of catering efficiency. The menu pricing was usefully above average (although not excessive) however I thought they had gone overboard on the pricing of their wines. Would I go back....................I am not rushing!

Yesterday evening I experienced the most fabulous meal at The Catch. The skills of the chefs imaginations in bringing together accompanying tastes with a range of textures was phenomenal. The balance of the 6 different courses, worked incredibly well. In all it was superb. In addition, every member of the front of house staff were superb from the warm greeting on arrival to a visit at our table by the chef. Each person was politely friendly and had their eye on the detail in their service. Without doubt The Catch is in the 5 most memorable meals I've had anywhere in the world. The restaurant ethos is delivering a sustainable menu built around the local costal waters of Weymouth and the local bay boats from the harbour A 7-course tasting with a wine flight offer that is very well priced at £70 for food and 5-matched drinks for £50. The drinks are blend of local whites and more traditional wines The food and service was outstanding, the room is full of character as the old custom house creating a very special atmosphere We shared a cheese which was an excellent three different cheese with quince jelly and home made apple chutney This won’t be our last visit and we can’t recommend it enough

We’ve been a few times over the years, and never left anything other than hugely satisfied. Tonight was our first back since the glowing review from Giles Coren. It was lovely to see the restaurant absolutely bustling with new diners, surely justification for what Mike and his team have created here in Weymouth. My only concern… could it be scaled up to accommodate the sudden influx, whilst maintaining the quality and consistency? Actually I may as well just answer that now… Yes! The evening’s taster menu was as gloriously delicious looking as always. And so it was no surprise that, along with their well-balanced wine flight, dish after dish (after dish) went on to duly deliver. And some! From sublime gurnard, to that deep rich broth, to a melt in your mouth tart. The sheer quality on each plate simply did not let up. We’ve been saying for a while now, Catch Weymouth may be Michelin Guide rated, but in all reality it is surely now becoming a solid Michelin 1 star experience.

Went to catch yesterday evening, have been many times before and loved the unique alacarte menu, they have now changed to a tasting menu. Was told the reason for this by the waiter was the rise in electricity prices (must think we were born yesterday). The first four course came out in good time, then after 4th course there was a massive delay in the kitchen, all the guests left in the restaurant were not receiving any food, you could see everyone looking to the kitchen. Then after about a 40 minute wait, bearing in mind that we arrived at 7.30 and it was now 9.40, the 5th course arrived, I promptly told the waiter I had lost the will to live and asked for the bill and left with only 4 courses under our belts. We were charged full prices and the arrogant waiter did not even apologise. Wow unbelievable how the standards have slipped here in a short amount of time, Mike you are only as good as the team around you and it looks like your team have gone from premier league to the conference. Very disappointing indeed.

So first time ever leaving a restaurant review!! Quick qualifying statement re food regrettably going through chemo and radtx which has affected my palate. However the Asian style dumpling and Crab Tea Broth were outstanding. Ragu and squid ink pasta also was good. The other elements were a bit underwhelming for me as we were so excited to visit this restaurant. Unfortunately what really detracted from the experience was the service. We were predominantly served by David who I also sensed was running as floor manager. For a taster menu I was expecting enthusiasm and passion in describing each course to bring the patron along for the journey. It felt all very flat. One of the other servers (from Poland) was very warm and engaging Also lost count of the times we needed to ask for re fill of glasses water or wine - also a shame. Perhaps it all started going pear shaped with the Crab Tea Broth which was so delicious. I asked if I could have a bit more but the answer was flat no from David….he explained it was very expensive. I indicated very happy to pay any surcharge. He later toward the the end of the meal five more detail on the man hours involved but still to get such a shut down as a bit surprising and could have been handle more empathetically. I hope this constructive feedback helps for future delivery of service at the restaurant.

Highly recommend this wonderful cosy restaurant with excellent kitchen and service . Walk in in winter but book in advance in summer - it’s not big . They do tasters for various prices starting from £50.00 The food comes in small portions and every dish is just delicious . Fresh fish cooked in a fancy way , squid ragu is outside of this world ! Both gentlemen - manager and waiter are outstandingly friendly and - without being snobbish - professional . You can somehow feel the difference between both us hires for summer and professional staff passionate about providing the best service . Very professional and polite booking process which was very much appreciated. Welcomed at a locked entrance door by a member of staff. Entered via ground floor which is a fish mongers by day, with restaurant above. (Lift available if required). Lovely room, decor and attention by the staff. Yet we were one of two tables at the start. The place was less than half full all night. Little atmosphere. Mixed feelings on the experience. Literally on the water, celebrating fish. But the memory of the meal we all had was the canapes were the best part. Surely for the price and a 6 course menu, fish could be more prominent. Everything very impressively presented, cooked, and tasty, but 2 desserts, one of which was like warmed jam with a foam. Just didn't shout fish restaurant to us. Great service, but underwhelmed. Is it good? Yes. Would we go back... ?

Nice food but don't go if you're hungry. I would describe the portions as tiny. The fish course was a 2inch by 1 inch piece of seabass with a half inch cube of sweet potato. Also the wine flight was only 3 small glasses. Service was very good. I know it's trendy for 'michelin' style restaurants to serve small portions but I think the Catch takes it a bit far.

This is one of the great restaurant finds! I have now been twice in four months and both times enjoyed one of the finest eating experiences I can recall. I am often wary of taster menus, feeling over-faced and full up by course 3, but the 6-courses on offer on both my visits, (the first in August, the second last night) were so exquisitely judged and so damn tasty that we relished every mouthful. The sweets were as dazzling as the canapés and savoury dishes. Visually stunning, the chef(s) were also creative with flavours -so many autumn ingredients found such happy expression this time round. Who knew that sea bass and delicate pumpkin and mushroom could work so well together? I will long remember the delicious, delicate lobster tart (eat in one mouthful was the instruction!) and both desserts - blackberry and apple with a foam of such airy richness! - & a hazelnut mousse with sourdough ice cream (impressive attention to recycling un-used sourdough ) Stunning. I have never written a review before, I know none of the people running it (though the service was delightful) but The Catch is sensational and deserves all the national acclaim that will surely come its way.

We have eaten in some of the 'top' restaurants in the UK and this was, without doubt, one of the best meals/experiences we have had. We had the mid week tasting menu with wine parings and it was impossible to choose our favourite dish. Mike (the chef) has a talent for bringing out the essence of a flavour and enhancing it. David (the manager) is adorable and has so much knowledge which he readily shared. From the moment we were greated at the door and indulged in chat about their 'pet' fish we were treated with warmth and professional friendliness, we felt like honoured guests. We rarely recommend a restaurant because we all like different things and have different expectations, however, we have no hesitation recommending this relatively new and fresh restaurant. Thank you to all at Catch for a wonderful evening.

From start to finish our experience was excellent. We were welcomed warmly, the staff were all extremely friendly and professional, and the restaurant itself is clean, relaxed and unpretentious. We decided against the wine flight due to wine taste differences, but advised well on a complimenting wine. The chef, who circulated around the restaurant was very engaging and passionate about the food, and explained each course to us in detail. The food is just sublime. It was so good we would quite happily eat here every day! It is beautifully presented, almost too pretty to eat, and the crab broth needs to be served by the pint, it is that delicious! Can not recommend highly enough, can’t wait to come again next year.

Slick service, fabulous food, great surroundings, great value for this standard of dining. It would not be a surprise if a star were to fall from the man from Michelin.

Our second visit (although we have sent six other members of the family through since our initial visit, all gave it 5*), food was as good as last time, that’s excellent in case you are wondering. Service was discreet but excellent, It’s late September so it’s quieter, so served by fewer staff so more opportunity for a closer rapport as not being served by as many different people, probably too quiet for diners and staff overall, but that is just how it happens sometimes. Because it was quiet the head chef had more time to chat (sat at table closest to kitchen) which pleased my wife as she’s a super keen cook and always interested in how the kitchen operates as much as the food it delivers. The catch will I am sure will be a regular feature of our calendar in Weymouth, we just need to strike the balance of familiarity and keeping it as a treat to savour.

We came here for the lunch deal and it was a great experience. Staff were very polite and friendly, service was excellent, they didn’t miss a beat. There were main 4 portions with bread served at the start, all the food was delicious and really well presented. I’d say the portions were maybe a little smaller than I expected but I didn’t leave hungry.

Came here for the lunch tasting menu deal, food was delicious and the service was great, attentive but left us alone and found the perfect balance. Restaurant was quiet when we arrived with us being the only diners but it did fill out while we ate which improved the atmosphere. Tasting menu was well put together and well priced with good timing between courses and communication from the wait staff as to what was next and any questions we may have

Was a very lovely treat to dine here. We had the 6 course which was lovely and perfect amount of food. The course was £70pp and we added the wine pairing £30pp (which consisted of a white, a rose and a port with the pudding). Would definitely recommend. 👌🏼

Absolutely fabulous food and wine at this amazing Michelin restaurant. I’ll explain each dish photographed below but th epics may have been taken soon after the delicious food arrived. Pic 1 - Sourbread and salted butter - amazing, light, crusty and pretty perfect. Pic 2 - My favourite dish of the day and not one I would have ordered from an a la carte menu - Portland Crab Dumpling with sesame, pickled ginger and crab broth, the crab broth is to die for!! Pic 3 - Roasted Scallop with truffle and westcombe cheddar sauce and grated hazel nuts on the top - an awesome combo. Pic 4 - Plaice with pea purée, garlic purée and some other really tasty stuff, this one was filling!!!! Pic 5 - Praline Mousse, hazelnut cake with sourdough ice cream, OMG! Pic 6 - We decided to go for the cheese board too, local cheddar, local Camembert, English blue cheese with Apple & Pear chutney, pickled celery with aniseed and a massive chunk of Quince which tasted so good with the cheddar!! With each of these course we had local English bubbly, local English rose, local English white and some spectacular Ruby Port with the cheeses. I would thoroughly recommend this restaurant!!

We love this place but unfortunately this time the crab starter was disappointing, very small and the monkfish main was also not good value, monkfsh was rubbery and mainly bone. Service was excellent as always but feel a little bitter sweet as this was the best fish restaurant and although expensive was worth it but avoid these 2 dishes

Fish tacos were outstanding. Lots of fresh fish options according to their availability on the day. Although fully booked indoors, I was accommodated outside on a fine September evening.

Truly excellent fish and chips, some of the best I've ever had. Unfortunately restaurant was closed due to staff shortages, and there was a long queue for takeaways. But worth the wait.
