Epic. I must visit when in looe Food was tasty portions size are huge. Personally a kids portion would feed an adult. We visited twice over the week holiday. Fish was fresh and decent. I had a kids portion, partner got the large fish which he said wasn’t that great and over cooked. We went back and had cheesy chips and onion rings they were amazing.

Stopped by last night for a F&C supper - it's in a lovely location with a great view of the water. Our fish was overcooked, the batter almost brown which did mean that it remained crispy but the fish was quite dry which was a bit unfortunate. Chips were OK, some undercooked ones but was a decent portion.

This is what is called a 10/10. Crispy batter, an inch thick scrumptious white meat, not swimming in oil, huge proportions and a full on lovely traditional taste. I've been to many chip shops before and dare I say the haddock from Catch is one of, if not the best in Cornwall. That includes some posh celebrity "chefs" and other shenanigans.

Popped into Looe as I haven't been for years. Fancied fish and chips and came across Catch. Nice looking place, some indoor seating and situated on the dock by the fish market. Ordered cod and chips and took them away to eat by the sea. Both cod fillets were trimmed and small, batter was dark brown (overcooked) hence the fish was dry and not great to eat. They weren't busy and therefore the fact the professional fish fryer managed to take their eye off the ball was very disappointing. Not the experience we wanted and didn't eat all of our £22 meal.

As always when we're on holiday we eat here, this time however did dissapoint, we ordered on the screen which in it's self was really well displayed and easy to use, when we recieved our food then chips weren't salt or vinegar, the lady who was behind the till just pointed and said oh it's there. Normal I wouldn't moan about this but when ordering using said screen it makes you specify if you want it with salt and vinegar, and since it was cheesy chips(which did have a great amount of cheese on) because I had to salt and vinegar it, it then was just on the cheese and all the chip underneath then tasted bland and some didn't seem fully cooked. The pot of curry sauces seemed a tad small for the price but was very tasty. The main issue was the women behind the till was a rude, after just gesturing at the salt I then asked if I could have a bag as I made a joke out potential dropping it she just bluntly said ok and got a bag out but left it on her side of the counter and walked off to continue her conversation with the other staff, so after salting my chips and trying to close the boxes( slightly difficultly to do, probably just me though 😂) I then had to struggle to reach over the counter to grab the bag to put the food it to then look up and have the women just watch me from the door in the back. I know it was half hour before closing and maybe she just wanted to go home but I felt uncomfortable during the whole time I was in there.

Terrible experience. Placed an order(shop wasn’t that busy)15 mins later server boxed our meals up and put in hot cabinet. Why? Because the fryer hadn’t cooked any sausages to go with our order. Another 10 mins go by. Boss asks what’s the hold up,server replies all orders in cabinet are waiting for sausages, boss asked fryer how many sausages she had put in fryer to cover orders, she replied dunno 4 or 5.boss said is it 4 or is it 5? Fryer wasn’t sure, was told to put more in fryer. Another 10 mins and our food was handed to us. Once home and opened,we found that the fish was so overdone the batter was dark brown, the chips were dry and shrivelled. As for the sausages I didn’t even bother checking. Total of an hour wasted, loss of appetite and £49 worth of food,in the bin. Appalling, won’t be stepping back in that place again. Totally unacceptable

After reading good reviews we chose Catch for a traditional fish and chips. They were busy and perhaps more annoying a large group of people were occupying the provided seats before they had even ordered food meaning no seats were available for anyone else. Inside was chaos with people waiting for their food it was hard to tell where the queue was or who had already been served. After a reasonable wait our food arrived, the catch of the day was plaice cooked with the skin on just to be aware if ordering for small children. The chips were really nice a decent size and well cooked and the fish you could taste was so fresh the only let down was the batter it was overcooked and to some extent too hard to eat. One of our fish portions we counted 23 bones now I accept a couple is normal and to be expected but nearly 2 dozen... Come on.

cod batter was hard as a rock, the fish was pretty good inside, but chewy in places, had a weird texture in others; and i'm a fan of all seafood (especially fish and chips!). We had takeout so I cant really judge the service or atmosphere. Unsure if related but soon after eating I became very unwell, I could chock this up to an existing health condition/intolerance but it was very strange it happened right after my meal from here. The chips are pretty good at least, hence an extra star.

Been here several times but our last visit on Sunday was very disappointing. The wait was extensive, ok, its a busy time of year. The chips were good, lifted the raiting from 1* to 2*. But the fish was terrible! The batter was so overcooked it was rock hard. Next to impossible to chew. Most probably cooked too long which in turn dried up the fish inside. The one consolation was the size of the fish wasn't very big. £28 for two cod and chips and two drinks, very expensive food fit only for the gulls

I'm sorry to say this is the first negative review I have ever left and I don't like to do it, however I need to leave feedback that I hope will mean our experience won't be repeated for anyone else. My husband and I ordered a cod and chips on 30th June 2024. Granted, England were playing in the Euros so the chefs and front of house staff seemed very distracted by this. No friendly greeting like you get in other places around Looe. We placed our order and then it came to us. My husband had a mouthful of his cod and could tell it wasn't right, and so he cut into the middle of his cod and it was raw. It was translucent, liquid poured out and slimy - it wouldn't flake at all so was undercooked. I am 22 weeks pregnant and checked mine, and luckily mine was cooked fine but we are relieved that I didn't eat the raw cod. However, if I was to criticise mine, the chips were quite soft and average and the batter was tough with not much flavour. I have had superior fish and chips in land which is a shame. Because my husband unfortunately had a bite of the raw fish, he spent the next day unwell. Thankfully he didn't consume more than he already had. After discovering the undercooked centre, my husband therefore took his fish and chips up to the counter and asked the opinion of the staff who went to show the chef, came back and said "we will bring you a new one", so they absolutely agreed that the fish was indeed undercooked. There was no apology though which surely would be normal in this situation. Mistakes happen, it is how you deal with them. However, the main complaint is what happened next. My husband waited another 20 minutes before his new cod and chips were brought out. We noticed all of the staff heading outside all together for breaks during this time so no wonder it took so long. Again, no apology received when his replacement meal was brought out. My husband cut into the new portion of cod and to our disgust, the fish was again slimey, translucent and raw in the middle. By this point, my husband had lost his appetite. The staff didn't seem to care and were few and far between at the front, so we left. A waste of two beautiful fillets of cod, and a waste of our money. We were on our babymoon and were looking for to fish and chips by the sea. We really wish we had tried somewhere else now. We hope this review can lead to some changes because as I say, my husband became unwell and we do not wish this experience on anyone. The customer service, the attention to detail and how mistakes are handled needs to be addressed.

This place used to be great, serving fabulous cod and chips. This was especially so when competing with Dave's Diner next door. We called in last week, after working in Liskeard all day. I'm sorry to say I felt the quality had slipped. The cod was covered in batter that seemed quite hard and gritty with not much flavour. Also, the chips were quite chunky in size and tasted slightly under cooked. Overall, they were a decent cod and chips. However, they were nothing special. The thing is, in Cornwall, the standard is extremely high, to compete with best. The food has to be exceptional.

After visiting my home county of Cornwall in Penzance, I wanted what all Cornish men yearn for a real Cornish pasty so I bought one from a shop that has been trading for 20/30 years and what I tasted was the biggest disappointment I’ve ever had (total rubbish) disgrace to all Cornish pasties, so the next day I went into the deli called the Cornish Hen and bought another pasty and wow it was the best I’ve ever had in Cornwall so I say to all you people who visit Penzance and want the best pasty going visit the Cornish Hen in Penzance you won’t be disappointed

Did come back another day when you were open and got a great takeaway and managed to park right outside, I know now google are a pain if you try to change the opening times.
