Cool space, buzzy atmosphere on a Friday nighr, good margaritas (although I would go for the frozen version because they're quite small and when you add ice to the regular version, you get a few sips and it's over!), nice take on nachos and my partner says the tostado with spicy chicken was good...however, one waitress was completely overrun, had to ask three times for a menu, two times to order, two times for an extra drink, twice for the bill. Lucky they don't include a service charge on the receipt, because I would have hugely resented paying 12.5% for substandard service.

Simple, fresh, tasty and quick, with lots of flavour and a relaxed atmosphere. Perfect for a light pre-gig meal.

Came here on a Friday night and is a great location with a good atmosphere. Margaritas are top notch. Food is good but not the best, some dishes, quesadillas especially, could use a bit more freshness. That being said it is excellent value. All dishes are gluten free as well. Would definitely return for a reasonably priced supper and a few cocktails.

Localino carinissimo, per il personale, l'accoglienza, la musica. Pochi tavoli, come piace a noi.

Though a little rough and ready on the inside (the chairs are metal and uncomfortable) the value is impeccable - £6.50 for 3 tacos! And it is all authentic delicious Mexican food. The breakfasts and lunch deals are also delicious and wonderful value and the staff are so wonderfully friendly. For a drink I would recommend a Michelada beer, or for a sweet non alcoholic drink the Horchata is brilliant.

I've lived in Brixton 6 years and never had a meal so bad in the otherwise fantastic village. It was a busy Saturday lunch time and all of our usual favourite places were full so we decided to try the Mexican, Casa Morita. I'd not eaten at Casa Morita before and now I know why. From the moment we sat down there was an odd atmosphere, it was quiet and subdued inside with no music or talking and not many customers in the context of the otherwise lively market. We weren't greeted, there were no menus on the tables, and we had to go and get the menus ourselves (which we were fine with) but when we did the waiter ran over he slightly crossly told us he would serve us after he had finished taking another couples order. Before we could respond he ran off back to the couple. Before he had finished with the other customers a waitress came over and we ordered our drinks, I ordered a Bloody Mary and was told this was made with tequila, the Mexican way, I thought this sounded strange but interesting so i decided to try it. When it eventually arrived it was horrible. After this things took a drastic turn for the worse. The original waiter came over with some water for the table and I was quite hot and thirsty (the Bloody Mary hadn't arrived yet) so asked for some ice, the waiter retorted that the water was cold enough even though I'd seen it sitting on the bar, he the demanded I try the water if I didn't believe him. Slightly shocked, I preceded to try the water which was lukewarm and timidly asked again for a bit of ice. The food was even worse. My companion and I ordered 3 tacos each. Both of us chose what can only be described as the 'burn chicken' filling which is described in many of these other reviews. It's acrid and horrible as it sounds. Another of mine was a 'refresco' which is made with soft cheese. It was made with tasteless beans and a disgusting looking, lump of bland curd, the third was a tasteless but inoffensive iceberg lettuce with small flecks of chicken and a thin drizzle of sour cream. Not worth £7, at all. To add insult to injury we couldn't seem to leave at all the as the staff had all decided to have lunch and completely ignoring us by this point. I hope their lunch was nicer than ours. We should have left but we stayed and asked several times to pay the bill after it had arrived. We were desperate to leave.

We loved everything about it, the food was spicy and good, the staff was super friendly and fast! We had "Huevos Rancheros" - made the traditional, not Tex-Mex way. 2 lightly fried tortillas covered in a mild tomato and chilli salsa topped with 2 fried eggs and onion. Served with refried beans & an avocado garnish with chorizo (Delicious). I've also ordered Huevos a La Mexicana, super spicy (hot, hot, hot!). One of the staff members made a lovely doll out of napkin paper and offered my daughter - (precious!!)I will definitely return to Casa Morita.

Being a massive fan of Mexican food, and a huge advocate for the Brixton Market, taking my family here for their first visit left a sour taste in our mouths (literally). We shared 2 meat platters between 4 of us, and by the time the last course came out, our pallets were so distressed by the 'mystery filling' in the tortillas, the look of a fried egg on nachos encouraged us to leave before a final drink goodbye. Really sad, I really wanted to support it!

We went to Casa Morita on Friday night. It always seems busy so we were expecting a fairly decent meal. Two of us ordered the 'taco mix meal' and the other two ordered the 'tasting menu'. I asked for two tacos and one quesadilla for my 'mix meal'. I received three, indeterminate flaccid wraps - one of which contained a blob of guacamole and some melted cheese, which I think was the 'vegetable quesadilla.' My friend ordered the taco with chicken which tasted really quite acrid. Like properly burnt. The other two also had this burnt chicken mix on their nachos. We told the waiter and he said 'no, it's supposed to taste like that.' I don't think it was. It really tasted burnt. So we tried again and he took it away to the kitchen, came back and said 'We've tasted it, and it's supposed to taste like that.' And then gave us back the plate of food that the kitchen staff had tasted... Not ideal. I'm no expert on Mexican food, but I really don't think Casa Morita is a fair representation of it. Everything tasted burnt or of nothing much at all. It's a shame but I don't think we'll be returning to Casa Morita.

My partner is from Mexico D.F. and finding authentic Mexican food is a real challenge. This place is great and although the menu is limited and does not change the food has an authentic taste and is also good value for money. They take the trouble to source proper corn tortillas from Mexico and not the awful flour or horrible yellow with preservatives tortillas for sale in British supermarkets. Any Mexican will tell you that a proper tortilla is essential for a good meal. They also sell some Mexican products which are hard to get in London, Valentino sauce, mole, tomatillos and tortillas. There is a cute little bar if you just want to have a drink. The atmosphere is great with outside seating which is covered by the market canopy. The staff are mainly Spanish and extremely welcoming and friendly!

I was looking forward to eating here on Saturday following a disappointing Mexican meal early in the week. On offer are nachos, tacos and quesadillas with an interesting drinks list which includes savoury beer cocktails. We ordered a tacos plater each (a choice of 3 tacos plus rice, beans and a little salad) plus a side of guacamole. Portion sizes were good but we all felt the tacos lacked flavour, which was a shame because the beer cocktails and service were great.

There is a lack of authentic Mexican cuisine in the UK, and unfortunately Casa Morita does not cut the mustard. I had a mixture of below-par tacos. The best of the bunch was the cochinita pibil, the chicken mole was an okay stab at it, but not nearly up to the standards you would find in Mexico, and the chipotle chicken was bland. The corn tortillas were a failure, they did not taste fresh so I doubt they are made in-house, and they fall apart almost as soon as you start eating them. The totopos (nachos) were burned, and the guacamole was underwhelming. On the plus side, the Mezcal margaritas were well made. It may seem like I'm being overly negative, but the restaurant's claim to serving "authentic Mexican food" was not lived up to. They had a decent go at it, but missed the mark by several degrees.

Popped in for a quick bite to eat as was tempted by the idea of Mexican. The quality was not great and in summary the food was passable at best. Had a combination of 3 tacos/ quesadillas, flavour was lacking, one simply contained a very mild melted cheddar cheese with a teaspoon of guacamole in the middle. It's still pretty hard to find a decent Mexican restaurant in London, although things have improved in recent years, thanks to places like Casa Morita. This is a small, friendly restaurant serving authentic food with delicious flavours. We shared several of the taco and quesadillas plus a tostada - portions are not the pile 'em type you get in the high street chains (which I mean as a good thing). The chorizo is really tasty, spices are not overdone and the mole is delicious. The margaritas were great. I went to "Casa Morita" with my Catalan/Spanish girlfriend and her mother, for lunch on a Sunday. The service was very slow (we had to ask to be served after we sat for more than 15 minutes at the table) but very friendly. My girlfriend and her mum chose the "Taco Mix Meal" for £9.50 and they both chose Taco de Mole con Pollo, Taco de Cochinita Pibil, and Quesadilla con Chorizo. Fillings were generous - but not very tasty. Portions were small. The added lettuce stripes came without any dressing whatsoever - so bring your rabbit.I chose the Chilaquiles with Chorizo for £7.50 (see photo). This was a rather small portion consisting of 2 small fried eggs, one tablespoon of chorizo filling, two table spoons of beans, one small fried tortilla swimming in tomato water - hence soggy and not crispy. One(!) ring of fresh onion, some chilli sauce, and some sour cream. No fresh cheese to be seen. Not very tasty - better add some salt. All in all rather average but certainly overpriced. The joke of the day was the Guacamole side dish for £3 (see photo), barely more than a table spoon and so uninteresting that we did not even finish it.So - I find this place irrelevant and overpriced - and I am surprised about all the enthusiastic comments. Did I come on the wrong day, maybe? In any case, I won't come again. But I wouldn't say "don't go". Just be prepared to get very average food at a relatively high price.

After 3 days of discovering (and loving) the amazing propositions you can find in Brixton Market, we decided to have a sunday homesick brunch in Casa Morita, which claims to be a real Mexican kitchen. We asked for chilaquiles and molletes and we were rather disappointed about the dishes' portions. The taste was not bad (yes, it tasted like Mexico) but we spent in one single dish what we had spent previously in a whole meal, drinks included. The other thing is that no one in the restaurant spoke spanish (strange for a real Mexican restaurant) and when we asked for some salsa (I'm Mexican!), they got us some "Valentina" (industrial sauce we would just use for chips in Mexico). After paying the bill we had to go some where else to fulfill our hunger and stayed with the feeling that we were ripped off... So if you are in Brixton and you want to try latin-american food, as a Mexican I would recommend to go for Colombian.

This restaurant was mentioned in a newspaper round-up of "Best (non Tex-Mex) Mexican food in London" so we went with high hopes. Our food (taster menu) was served luke-warm to cold (microwaved), there was no fresh guacamole, the taste generally pretty bland and samey-samey, the plates dirty with dried food stuck to it, and the service indifferent. Though the Mojitos we had were nice, I would not recommend this restaurant. The fact that other restaurants in the market were full and we were the only guests there should have been a warning sign perhaps.

I've been to Casa Morita many times have have always enjoyed. Great Margaritas. Two issues I had yesterday...The Guacamole was not fresh. I am pretty sure it was from Costco. NOT GOOD! Still we sat at the bar and had a selection of starters and mains. It was a nice time. Aside from the Guacamole the food was great. I'm from New York where there is an abundance of Mexican food and this place really holds up! As we were finishing one of the 'cooks' came behind the bar and changed the music to what I would describe as Thrash Metal. We were sat next to the speaker. The 'cook' blasted the music and we looked stunned as none of the other staff seemed to be phased that we could no longer hear each other speak. I gave the 'cook' a questionable look and he laughed, returned to the kitchen and said something to another 'cook'. There began a staring match between us and the kitchen staff who laughed at our annoyance. The 'cook' came out and said quite arrogantly, 'What, you don't like this music?' Disgusted we asked for the bill, payed and left. Don't think I will be going back unless management makes some verbal amends.

This is one of the best places to eat in Brixton Village, and the food is great, it is gluten free and authentically Mexican. Their cocktails are brilliant and reasonably priced, they come with free tacos. really good atmosphere and with indoor seating so nice and warm. the staff were great, and friendly.

Had a lovely dinner with a friend at this small restaurant in buzzy Brixton Market. All of the food we had was delicious - best I've had outside of Mexico, especially the homemade guacamole - and the margarita's were excellent (if a tad on the small side). Service was friendly and surprisingly quick given how busy it was. Would happily go back to eat again.

Went there with a couple of friends last week. I had the Supertorta which the waitress said it was like a mex burger and it was even better than I could 've imagined and the chipotle mayo they serve it with... also amazing. My friends ordered the tasting menu and they were also happily impressed. We'll be back very soon!

Caught up with a mate one Tuesday for a great meal, with the added benefit of the Tuesday special including food with grog, so effectively we ate for free. The atmosphere was terrific and the food well worth paying for, if you have to.

Food was average with the tortillas being very chewy and served Luke warm; a clear indication that it was microwaved. Cocktails were good; albeit overpriced. What spoilt the whole experience though, was the bad attitude we were subjected to by a young Spanish waiter during an exchange of buying some decorative mirrors. He was unsure about the pricing and became rude when it was pointed out to him. Good experience tainted by an inexperienced plate-carrier.

We went here for a friends birthday and were impressed by the atmosphere. We all had the taco mix meal but were left unimpressed and overall disappointed. The tacos were cold, rice chewy. To make matters even worse the evening and the day after all three of us had upset stomachs. I would not recommend. Much better places to eat, with better value for money.

Nice to be able to select the elements you want and level of spiceiness. Service is good and this place always seems busy but it's worth waiting for a table.

I cannot understand how anyone could give this place a bad review. It's the most authentic (and delicious) Mexixan street food I've had outside of Mexico, it's not too expensive and the staff are friendly and attentive. I guess a some people just like to bring other people down. Or maybe they expect nasty tex-mex rubbish as served in 95% of "Mexican" restaurants. Try it for yourself and realise that this should place is a definite 4 or 5 star venue. Also, they serve micheladas!! Need I say more?

Stopped here for a light lunch with a family member and was happy with the food. I am not an expert when it comes to the cuisine as I have not had a great deal of it and have yet to visit the country either. I enjoy what was served although the portion size could have been bigger as I am a big eater but I was not left hungry by any means. It was well priced and had plenty of options. The staff were friendly too and there was no rush to eat and leave as there is at some of there other places in the village/market row area.

I've been coming to Casa Morito for 2 years and I love it. The food is brilliant and really authentic. If you're expecting high street anglo-mexican this isn't for you. The dishes are rich, sloppy and warming. Their coffee is super intense and their mango cake is delicious. In an area with way too many hamburgers and ribs (and now high street chains) these guys are authentic, friendly and my all time favorite.

Went here for a birthday meal with parents. Had planned to go to Franco Manca but of course it was a Saturday night so no chance of getting in. It should've been a giveaway that there were empty tables here but in we went and had a few hours of inattentive service. I knows it's Brixton Village and everything's hip and trendy but we had to literally wave in the face of waiters (several of us at once) multiple times before he noticed we were trying to order/pay etc. The food itself wasn't brilliant and the prices were pretty rubbish – we got one of each tasting platter (£22.50 each) between 4 of us and thinking back this seems absolutely rubbish value. If we'd spent the same amount at somewhere like Wahaca we'd have had half as much food again and the quality would've been better too (not to mention service). It's a shame because I'd rather support independent businesses but I'd bigged up Brixton Village to my parents saying how good the food was and all that and we ended up leaving feeling frustrated that the staff didn't seem to notice us and that the food wasn't great for the price. I wouldn't go back.

I was really surprised to see the less favorable reviews for Casa Morita as we find it to be very authentic and tasty Mexican food. What it IS NOT is Tex-Mex/California-Mex, so the enchiladas are not baked with cheese on them, there are no burritos and there are no nachos. While I love these American twists on Mexican food, I really appreciate that Casa Morita is holding the line and offering only authentic Mexican dishes. You may find that you don't like it, but I really do suggest engaging with the staff on how to order and asking how best to eat each dish and you will actually get a taste of Mexico at a price very much on par with every other restaurant in Market Row/Brixton Village.

Living around the corner I have sampled most of the cuisine in Brixton village. This place is usually empty which is a telling sign when the rest of the market is packed. Non the less my girlfriend and I gave it a try. The waitress struggled to comprehend that we wanted to remove one ingredient from the set menu due to a food allergy, she alluded to the fact that everything was rigidly pre prepared. This obviously caused eyebrows to raise whilst also raising question marks of the freshness of the ingredients as they seem soley set up to bang out a mediocre tasting menu. The mojitos where poor as well. Next day we both had upset stomachs. Avoid this restaurant and go to Jalisco instead if you are craving tasty mexican. Only redeeming feature of Casa Morita is that it is cheap.

We ordered the tasting menu designed for 2, but this obviously hadn't been thought out, they used 1 big taco's, swimming in sauce, so cutting and sharing it was virtually impossible. Also it really wasn't that tasty, authentic, or worth the money. The staff were not very helpful either, they seem to be focus more on joking about with each other than taking our order.

This is the second time that I have been here. The service was excellent and friendly. The beer was cold, but the food is average. The guacamole is not the best and the food was less than standard. I wouldn't go back as there are so many other places in Brixton Market that are better.

We visited Casa Morita for a late Saturday afternoon lunch. The restaurant is in a small unit in Brixton Market near Franco Manca. Casa Morita offers fairly standard Mexican fayre like tacos and enchiladas as well as a tasting menu for two. We opted for the huevos rancheros with chorizo and chicken enchilada. Both arrived very quickly and while we didn't wait before tucking in, they were both pretty much cold. The enchiladas were served with a lot of fairly thin tomatillo sauce and lacked seasoning. The portion was not terribly generous and the whole thing was quite disappointing. The huevos rancheros consisted of two smallish tortillas topped with two eggs, smothered in thin tasteless tomato sauce and sprinkled with crumbles chorizo. Oh and with some bland refried beans on the side and a couple of raw onion rings. The total bill (excluding my side of guacamole which they forgot) was about £20. This was for 2 mains, 1 beer and a water. The staff served us quickly but did not check to see if the food was ok. In short, we won't be visiting again. There are plenty of nicer, cheaper and better run places in the market.

I went to the Casa Morita and I do not recommend it. I had a problem I contacted the owner, I gave him time to look into the problem. So after 5 days of nothing I am reluctantly using this forum to say that you really should eat somewhere else. Very poor indeed.

First time ever that I can't eat my food and first time I write a review. Looked awful, dirty and disgusting. Shredded chicken, minced chorizo, mashed matt beans, soggy pancake and fried eggs all floating in a watery tomato soup? From what angle this dish is authentic Mexican! The poor waitress was so ashamed that she tried to explain that it's an acquired taste!!! Unbelievable

3 people 10pm on a Wednesday night. They had a few tables spare so we went on. 3 dishes for £6 sounds like a bargain. 2 of us chose this deal, the other some of other dish. Tortilla were stale hard and empty of any filling. Mojitos made with dark rum , loads of sugar all in minuscule measures. Basically everything bar the prompt service was crap. Don't bother.Oh, and they don't 'have toilets.

Everything is in place for great restaurant - Location, decor and atmosphere perfect.However..The serivce is half hearted and food is very below standards for price. We were a party of three. I had taken my teenage friends to Brixton so that they could experience colours and smells from all over the World. So all in all it was okay that one of them had some mexican food that she really detested (while I enjoyed it). Mole sauce was way beyond what she could cope with. My second friend ate what she got, but without much enthusiasm. However, she was experienced enough to notice that the tacos was soft and the tortilla was crisp - in Denmark it would be the other way round. I myself (the globetrotter) was satisfied, but do agree that I did not get exact what I had expected. My poor friend #1 had a burger next door - and in Casa Morita an experience that she will never never forget - and after all, that was the purpose of going there.

Came here with a friend for a quick meal a few nights ago. We had the Tacos with pulled pork, black beans and salad. The food was a bit bland to be honest and was not helped by the rather cramped surroundings. I appreciate space is a premium here, but it did rather feel as if everyone was on top of each other. The wine came in little tumblers, which was rather sweet and reminded me of my travels around Mexico. The Staff were friendly and somewhat rushed off their feet - its evidently a popular restaurant.I wouldn't necessarily recommend this place, even if you like Mexican food. There are plenty of other Mexican places nearby, with slightly more atmosphere and richer, more authentic tasting food.

Looking forward to some authentic Mexican food here unfortunately the management didn't have the same idea. We went in, the waitress who was stood to our right continued her conversation with the other waitress, and continued and continued. We weren't seated until the lady at the back waved us to a seat. This was in a restaurant which probably seated 20-30 people so it wasn't like she didn't see us. She continued with the same can't really be bothered attitude, something that I find lets down so many restaurants - poor staff and service and something that is very important in my eyes. No smiles, no greeting just slap the menus down and walk away. We ordered cocktails, again she bought them over and as I attempted to give my order she walked away. I tried a beer cocktail - sorry I cant remember the name but it was something like a bloody mary mix with beer added - disgraceful. Waste of a good cerveza. We sat for another 5 mins while I tried to catch the eye of one of the 2 waitresses, again they seemed more interested in conversation behind the till than actually scanning the room. We had a mixture of tacos and tortillas with a variety of fillings. Basically they all lacked seasoning when compared to authentic Mexican food. The guacamole didn't have any chilli or coriander it was just avocado. Shame really as its a nice spot and nice decor apart from the cheap Mexican Xmas decorations for sale (it is the end of Jan!)We'll try again in 6 months......

Went for a quick bite before a gig and it was better than expected, considering it was winter and inside what once must have been a fish market! They tried to make it as cost as possible. Only a few choices to choose from on the menu but this is normally a positive thing. Food was simple, but was good.

I love Mexican food. Having grown up in Southern California and travelled to Mexico, I really do know great Mexican food and this is not it. My enchiladas were cold, I found a few hairs in my beans (which totally put me off eating) and I left feeling hungry. There are so many nice places to eat in Brixton, don't make the mistake of eating here. It was expensive too.

I visited with a friend for lunch, and was a bit disappointed that the level of service fell below what I'd received a few months ago. Service was very slow, with drinks (including tap water) coming after our food, and my filter coffee was only filled half my mug with incredibly strong coffee - clearly not enough water had been added to the pot. No-one came to ask if we'd like more drinks, or offer us dessert. I was happy with my pulled port tacos, which are delicious. My friend ordered 3 small plates - and they are not kidding about them being small! They also came without any form of garnish, looking very bare on the plate. Not sure I'd go back again.

A very long wait for substandard food and rude staff. £17 for Sunday roast where the beef was nice enough but carrots from a tin and potatoes from a bag from Iceland would be my guess.
