Wahaca South Bank Experiment in Lambeth

Turned up for a last minute family lunch on a Sunday after visiting the aquarium. Seated quickly and service and food was fast too. Food was absolutely delicious and very fresh. Children loved their build a taco. Can’t wait to return.

Visited at the weekend and I must admit this was the worse place I have ever eaten. We were sat upstairs which was very hot and stuffy and had a strange smell. We ordered a couple of small dishes each, but there was a horrible aftertaste with both the pork and beef tacos, there were no distinguishing flavours, tasted the same, just different colours. The sweet potato fries weren’t fries, just unappetising lumps of sweet potato. The best thing was the chicken quesadilla - but that still had a horrible aftertaste and repeated on me terribly all day. This is my first visit and will be my last, I might try another branch – but unfortunately won’t be returning!

We live in Houston, TX, USA. We are so happy that REAL Mexican food in a great atmosphere with very efficient and personable staff can be found in London!!

We were looking for somewhere to eat and found this on the Southbank. Not badly priced for London and a good range of tasty Mexican dishes. The staff made some menu item suggestions which was also helpful. A good restaurant to visit if you’re in Central London and like Mexican food. Just to note they do automatically add the tip to your bill.

Friendly atmosphere, our waiter (Alex?) very attentive and polite.Dishes a good size and food fresh and hot. Drinks came quickly too. We were not hurried and enjoyed the evening.

Have been here several times and never disappointed.

The food is as delicious as ever, and Alex was a very charming and professional waiter. Shame the lights over us were not on.

Atmosphere was festive, casual and welcoming. Service was attentive and I felt in good hands having an allergy. The food was delicious and perfect sizes. I had the plantain tacos which was delicious followed by Black Bean & 3 Cheese quesadillas and side portion of nacho and guacamole. The vampiro juice was delicious too. All fresh and yummy! Satisfaction.

Me and my partner had lunch at Wahaca Southbank today. Everything was so delicious. I want to especially appreciate how welcome we felt by Paula, who attended us. She was kind, friendly and the whole time very focused on ensuring we were comfortable. My partner and I are both vegans and this can be awkward when going to some non-vegans restaurants. Paula made us feel welcome the whole time. 💚

Recommended to this container looking Mexican restaurant by a friend and was glad we found time to visit it as it was amazing! 💯 Carlota was super friendly, in fact the whole crew there were mostly friendly and cheery which adds to the good vibes 😎 🌮 tacos were great, ordered the battered fish alongside the free range chicken variant and they both tasted amazing! Even my wife agrees having had different variations of tacos in the past. 🥦 the roasted cauliflower were one of the best sides we had as well, not overly fried, crispy, yet reminding you it’s fried cos of how oily it is 😅 the sauce was a good dip to counterbalance the surfeiting taste after half a plate though 🧃 the vampiro juice was great too, always love a ginger juice for that extra kick and this definitely delivers Churros was a good way to end our meal, Mexican doughnuts with chocolate sauce that we loved 🤤 Definitely a great place to chill out and have some small bites while soaking in the atmosphere!

Would highly recommend the set menu favourites - a good variety and pretty good value for 25 quid. Was also absolutely rapid (albeit on a Monday evening) if you're an impatient eater! Anna (?) was very friendly :)

Very nice atmosphere close to the Thames, we had dinner and drinks with colleagues and say outside. I had mojito and it was okay but the food selection was great! I loved the chicken and avocado 🥑

Our server Mo was a true gentleman. Great recommendations, clearly very experienced and clearly a very nice guy. Menu was also great, the vegetarian options are really really good and I’ll be coming back in the future to try the rest of the menu!

We were so happy we came here for our lunch. With it being in a hot spot we thought it would be busy and overpriced but we were pleasantly surprised! Our server Sabi was very friendly and accommodating, and the food was AMAZING. I don't know if it's because I'm vegetarian so often my options are limited or boring, but their tacos were the best is have EVER had. I would definitely come back here if I go back to London.

Ordered the Grilled 'Halloumi Al Pastor' it definitely wasn't halloumi inside, no flavour, it seemed like tofu.

Brilliant place. The food was good, the staff friendly and the view amazing.

We had what seemed like an inordinate wait for our food (other people who arrived after us were served before us). I think the reason given was that we had ordered vegetarian options and these take longer. Really? The food we had was okay. I liked the pulled "chicken" tacos. The location is nice as you can look out of the windows and across the Thames. Pity about the wait.

We dined there on a Friday night in August on our first foray into London. Good atmosphere and good food. Cris's friendliness gave us positive energy for the rest of the trip.

Atmosphere was very nice. They have nice vegan and vegetarian mexican options. Also, paying lots of attention to allergies and giving recommendations. Food was good. Nice mexican beers and Margaritas.

Great outdoor spot by the river with a wonderfully friendly waitress, Diana! If it looks like you can't book on the site, just try walking in like us.

Unpleasant experience!!!. Staff was not welcoming!! The attitude was like we were a burden. Although the lady who took our order was decent. They placed another couple on our table blocking our view and privacy when there are plenty of open tables and some of customers were about to leave it's seems like they want us not to have a good time. On top of this they charged a mandatory tip of around 12% for this horrible experience.unacceptable!

We love this Wahacas! The food is fabulous and the staff are absolutely fantastic! Such a beautiful spot on the Southbank, especially on a day like today when the windows are open and the sun is out!

The worst we have tried so far. Musty tacos, a half-empty bowl of chicken and tasteless quesadillas. Quite poor in all order.

From excellent service by Dinach, fantastic food for the four of us, and amazing attention to detail from Ryan, we have all had a brilliant meal this afternoon. The Sir Vesa with the Michelada works really well, and I did not mind being a guinea pig at all! This was my first time to a Wahaca, but it shall certainly not be my last, and I would actively encourage anyone looking for great service and a friendly environment to come here!

Hidden gem. Food is intelligent. Upstairs and outside is really special on a sunny evening.

I have to report sadly that I never bought food/drinks at Wahaca. I was just chilling at South Bank, sipping an incredible Frozen Margarita that I got for £8 off a food truck 🍸 Had Pandan Chiffon cake that I got at Chinatown bakery. Love Southbank! It's giving hippie. I walked around, saw some very cool skaters just killing it on the streets, hung out at the Jazz Festival, chatted up some blood and stem cell bank volunteers. Good vibes only 😎✨

Service was great, very friendly staff but the quality of the food was very poor. The food was lukewarm and lacked flavour.

Food old and cold. Got burrito and the bowl and ingredients are very little and old. Couldn’t finish it. Drinks are watered down and the service staff are rude af. Only thing decent about this place is the location.

Very yummy vegan food, the vegan cheese was unreal! Cocktails were also really nice! The atmosphere is lovely, super colourful enhanced by the great service and short waiting times.

The tacos was really good. But I got a halloumi taco and the halloumi was very overcooked it was also quite hard. Other than that it was very nice food.

Food is tasty and well presented overall. However, service was extremely slow (it took 40 mins to receive a small plate of buttermilk tacos and up to 1 hour to receive a bowl of sweet potato bravas). On 2 separate occasions that I've visited, we were given drinking glasses that had not been cleaned properly and still had bits of food in them from the previous customer 🤢 Very pricey for the portion sizes, and even a small soft drink bottle costs nearly £4 🤦🏻‍♂️

I love the Wahaca, Southbank and I visited it again after ages and loved everything that we had - the Picante Margaritas, Tres Leches Tiramisu, Ancho Mushroom Tacos, Sweet Potato and Feta Taquitos, Roast Potatoes Esquites! Yum! Yum! Yum!
