Cary Bar & Grill in North Lanarkshire

Haven’t visited here in a long while and we were pleasantly surprised at the lovely refurbishment, the old Poachers Bar was definitely looking a bit tired last time we were there! This place has always been renowned for its steak pie, and it didn’t disappoint! Glad this dish has been ‘refurbished’, it’s still a traditional proper steak pie and not the modern lazy one of stew and a pastry lid that some kitchens now serve up! Staff were lovely, service good and reasonable prices, what more could you ask for?

Went for a birthday treat today. As soon as we were seated, the service and help from the server (Jamie) was second to none. Nothing was too much trouble for him. Even when we asked for some extra gravy it was not an issue. We were not rushed between courses. Jamie was attentive without being there all the time, he got the balance just perfect. He was polite and took time to chat but still taking your order and making us feel relaxed. The experience at the Cary Bar & Grill was great. The food was fantastic quality and good portion sizes. The steak and sausage pie was to die for. Great amount of meat and beef sausages you'd get from the butcher. The waffle and ice cream just finished the meal off for myself perfect. My wife loved her meal but ended up full. Throughly enjoyed our meals. All credit to the chefs for fantastic food and the staff for a wonderful time. Definitely will be back. Thank you all.

Dropped by for lunch. Thought we were going to be too early as it was just coming up to 12pm so was surprised how busy it already was. Food was great. Staff very friendly and helpful. Will definitely be back again.

We had the Mac cheese and fish pie, with a starter of Haggis pakoras that arrived half way through the mains. Both mains were meh, we can and do make better at home, but the sides were awful. The prima verdi veg with the fish pie was greasy and burnt, while I'm convinced the chips that came with the mac were oven chips and there was no veg at all, just tripple carbs. Haggis pakoras were quite good.

Jo and the staff at the Cary Bar & Grill could not have been more helpful in arranging birthday meal. Great value and food choices and menu accommodates varied food intolerances. They even put on a special to accommodate a request. Food was the usual high quality and portions are generous. Staff were friendly and attentive and helped making a special day memorable.

Restaurant is newly furnished and looks nice and tasteful. Service was very good, the staff were attentive, pleasent and efficient. The food was good and nicely cooked. I had wild garlic mushrooms on toasted brioche followed by goulash with dumplings. My only negative was the price of the starter being a wee bit high.

We don’t get out much so really looked forward to finally haven’t a wee bit of time together to celebrate our anniversary. We used to have lovely meals in the bar before there was all the refurbishment at castlecary inn so didn’t think there would be a problem! Waited longer than we expected for our meals to arrive and when they did they were served on plates which had not been warmed. My vegetable burger was pretty tasteless and the fries were very dry and went cold very quickly. My husband had hoped to have a “medium “ steak but it certainly wasn’t that. He was sitting trying to saw through it! He took a bite of his onion ring and lo behold he pulled out a long string of onion skin. Basics were not even met ! Felt really sort for the lovely little waitress who had to keep apologising to us. Almost £50 lighter in the pocket and with half empty stomachs , we made Our way home very disappointed

My husband and daughter came for dinner tonight and came away so disappointed! They felt that it was microwaved food at best! Breaded mushrooms were cold in the middle and it just wasn’t that great! Its a great shame as the Old Poachers Lounge served up some fantastic plates of food especially the desserts and has been a family favourite for years! Sadly the end of an era!

My nana recommended me to come try the restaurant here as I haven't been for ages and she came for Xmas Dinner and loved it. The starters we got were very nice. My nana got creamy garlic mushrooms and I got the ham hock terrine. For mains we got sirloin steak, one medium well and one medium rare. This was the disappointing dish. Both steaks were tough,burnt and hard to cut through. For dessert. We got apple and blackcurrant crumble and creme Brulee. The crumble came in a large dish. Too big for a dessert. Creme brulee was nice but unfortunately wasn't cooked properly and was too runny. Creme brulee should be more firm. When asked if we enjoyed the meal at the end we stated we didn't like the steak as it was too tough. The lady stated "aw you should ofnsaid and we would have gotten something else" I don't know anyone who wants to order another meal after the first one not being too great. Unfortunately we will not be back again. This was a treat for my nana as I was taking her out for lunch. When we asked to speak to the manager about taking the steak off the bill due to my nana not eating it. She was rude and gave us an attitude which caused a small argument at the table. It took about half an hour to actually get the manager to come over. Ridiculous and unprofessional.

Had a fantastic lunch here for a family celebration. The staff where so helpful and happy. Always a good sign. The had a three course lunch and not complaints on any of them. All good quality and tasty. There was no complaint by any of our party. Also with current covid restrictions in place when here, the restaurant was doing a great job in meeting them. Felt very safe.
