Cartwheel Cafe and Roastery in Nottingham

A bit weird that this place opens at 9 am on Sunday but you cannot order food until 9:30am. Having said that, the brunch was well worth the wait and the coffees where nice. Staff are okay, could just smile and appear a bit more friendly.

Went today to try it out ,not bad at all ,service okay ,food ok my coffee was not hot etc . Where the sugar and cutlery was located there was a dirty cloth and a bottle of cleaner not really good .

Service - When we arrived, we weren't sure to sit down or stand around to be told where to sit. When we sat ourselves down, they were then keen to take our order, but we waited a long time for the food to arrive. Staff did not check in aside from taking our order. Food - very disappointing, very salty, and all pre-made. Drinks - cappuccino was very good. Restaurant - it is a nice atmosphere and in a good location. I wouldn't recommend getting food here, but would be a great place for a nice coffee which we would come back for.

Enjoyed a nice trip to theis place hidden away in a side street in Nottingham City centre. Had the plant based brunch which is exactly what I needed first thing, staff were kind, friendly and always on hand to help. Worth the visit for your tea/coffee and snack fix.

Stumbled upon this place when my 2 daughters and me were doing our 2 weeks Britain Road Trip and we had a day in Nottingham. Place looks cozy but rather small. Servers were very friendly and polite. As we are Muslims, we had the vegetarian and vegan selections which were very tasty and presentation was spot on. The coffee and tea we ordered too were very good. It was a great brunch to start our day exploring Nottingham before our drive down to Essex.

Popped in today for a coffee on a very quiet morning, not helped as there was no chef so it was just coffee and pastries. We ordered flat white extra hot with cardamon buns plus some tap water. The buns arrived quickly as did the coffee. The buns were nice but rather sweet but that is individual taste, the coffee tasted fine but was not extra hot and the water did not arrive. Given we were the only customers at the time for 2 staff that is really not acceptable.

A total hidden gem, had a cartwheel (full English) breakfast - superb. Home made baked beans very tasty and poach eggs exactly like I like them. Great coffee too

Good coffee as usual. I had the toast which was delicious and my partner the frangipani tart which she said was also delicious. The staff were friendly, helpful and efficient. A great place for a stop in the city.

One of my favourite places to go for coffee (and food) in Nottingham. Lovely relaxed environment with great staff. The food is always delicious and the coffee perfectly brewed. Plenty of veg and vegan options if that’s what you’re looking for too.

Really great coffee shop. I’m a big fan of pour over and so a delight to find this place. Cinnamon bun was filled with flavour and super-fresh. Friendly and helpful staff too! I shall be back!!

Cosy place, buzzing on a Sunday morning, warm service to the table, interesting breakfast/brunch menu including treats like French toast as well as favourites bacon sausage egg etc with a twist.

Took my son for breakfast and it was AMAZING!!! The most delicious and beautifully presented breakfast I've ever had, we had a full English and a chorizo hash and both were excellent. Lovely friendly staff, great coffee, great atmosphere, I don't think there can possibly be anywhere better for breakfast in Nottingham.

Was looking for something other than the usual café fare for brunch and stumbled across Cartwheel. Fantastic choice served beautifully. Had the Chorizo Hash with a Mimosa and loved every morsel. Partner had the vegetarian breakfast which included smashed avocado, spicy beans, chestnut mushrooms, sourdough toast, spinach, eggs etc; again divine! Great range of specialists teas and coffees. Can’t recommend enough! My new favourite brunch place!

An excellent place to stop off when in the area and relaxing from the hustle and bustle from the city centre. An excellent cappuccino was made to me by the staff. I'll be back for another visit soon

Eggs Benedict and Royale beautifully presented and tasty. Staff patient and cheerful. We visited the caves after lunch and have now returned for a cup of tea. Can't say better than that.

Really unique spot! Food was different, but in a good way. The Sausage Focaccia was gorgeous and so was the coffee! My partner had the French Toast and that was equally as delicious.

Been going to Cartwheel for a couple of years. The staff are fantastic. The Japanese tea is the best around. But what has happened to the food here? Have had to return the Daal twice now in the last couple of weeks, as unedible!

Brilliant place. Iced glass of water on arrival was a great little touch. Breakfast was delicious I recommend the sausage focaccia. An all male service team was a pleasant surprise too!

Cartwheel has a great range of hot drinks and is in a quiet location very close to central Nottingham, but less crowded. Fairly small, but cosy indoor seating and an outdoor seating area. The staff were really friendly!

I work in and out of Notts alot and always looking for somewhere to have a coffee and be able to work. I stopped at Cartwheel and the coffee is the best I've had, along with the Atmosphere and how quickly I.was served. I cant reccomend it enough!

Just been to cartwheel for the first time on my lunch break from work. Had a gorgeous butternut squash salad with loads of goats cheese which was lovely. Will definitely be returning. Coffee was lovely too

This is the ultimate hidden gem. I am only reviewing it because I am leaving. I didn’t want anyone else to know. The guys that work here have real passion and the coffee is unlike anything else I have ever tried anywhere. Pancakes with chocolate marscapone and hazelnuts made for a perfect breakfast. I have tried all their coffees now. The Honduran is in a league of its own.

Popped in for a quick lunch here the other day. Absolutely lovely food and plenty of choice. I had poached egg and avocado on toast. Simple, but beautifully done and reasonably priced. Staff were friendly and helpful. Highly recommended.

The food at Cartwheel is truly fantastic - came for lunch with family and was expecting a usual cafe. Although the menu is small - there is a large variety for veggies and vegans which is a nice change. The food itself was excellent - especially the Vegan Breakfast, something different but yummy. Food felt quite healthy and balanced unlike other mayo-obsessed cafes.

This place is on a particularly lovely olde worldy street in Nottingham. Went in for a coffee and cake. Cake was very nice but the coffee wasn't hot, so I didn't stay long, as you can't really relax over a coffee with no longevity in its temperature. But this is definitely a cafe with a good vibe, doing its own thing. Polite and efficient staff.

I’ve been to Cartwheel quite a few times and it’s always delicious! The coffee is always fantastic with a great selection and their menu often changes. This time I had fluffy pancakes (I’m so glad pancakes are back on the menu FYI!) which were lovely! They always have a good selection for vegetarians, vegans and gluten free also. Would highly recommend the pour over coffees!

Just popped in here for the first time for a quick flat white. Excellent service and lovely coffee. Love the feel of this place so will definitely return when I next pop into Nottingham.

Staff were very friendly and accommodating. They led us to a quiet table, provided highchair and hot water (for warming baby food). No rush to order and food was served very quickly once we had ordered. We both had brunch which was delicious. Place was a welcome calm after a hectic shopping trip. Facilities for baby changing were clean.

Fabulous cafe and very friendly staff. Had breakfast here on a busy Saturday morning but the drinks arrived quickly and the food shortly afterwards. Fresh squeezed orange juice was great and iced latte very refreshing. Two small things to detract from a perfect score: 1) there is only one price listed in the menu for the OJ yet when I ordered and was asked if I wanted a large, a £1 surcharge was added (and not mentioned at the time of ordering); 2) the sides are £3 each (again, not clear on the menu as it sounds like you get both potatoes and bacon for that price) and for 3 strips of bacon, £1 per strip is a bit steep! Especially as it didn’t particularly taste of Szechwan pepper as the menu listed. Otherwise, highly recommend this lovely little coffee bar and cafe. Great food and friendly, attentive service!

Visited this cafe for lunch after finding it on TripAdvisor. Sausage sandwich, bacon sandwich bith on foccacia were superb along with the avocado and egg. Tried one of the speciality coffees which was flavoursome. Very friendly service and helpful with the speciality coffee selection. Would definitely return and recommend.

I’ve not long moved to Nottingham and I have a (well behaved) cocker spaniel who is helping me test the local haunts - I don’t know anyone in the city yet and I’m attempting to meet new people. My dog and I took a walk into the town centre today to suss out some dog-friendly spots. My dog is very well trained and used to being taken into cafes and pubs - if he weren’t I wouldn’t take him in to places. People often comment to me about how well he behaves. Upon arriving at Cartwheel I popped my head round the door and politely asked if this cafe was dog-friendly as I’d been tipped off by the nice shop owners next door that it is (however it’s still nice to ask). I was greeted by a member of staff who couldn’t have made us feel less welcome. He pulled a face and said they were dog friendly “but...”. I said “but what?” And he replied that my dog would have to “sit quietly under my table” which I said he would and he then responded with “and he cannot bark - at all! This is just our policy.” I almost turned around and walked away then and there. My dog wasn’t making any noise or giving any indication that he wouldn’t behave. He came in, sat quietly under the table out the way and didn’t make a peep. In fairness the other staff were lovely and made us feel welcome but the damage was done. I quickly had a drink and left - I won’t be back. Incidentally if I’d attempted to come in with a screaming child in a pram I wouldn’t have been told that. You’re either “dog-friendly” or you’re not and this place might have allowed me and tolerated my dog in but it certainly wasn’t friendly.

I never write reviews but I just had to for this one. It was cold and I stumbled across this small coffee shop. Everything on the menu was inticing. I went for the french toast. It was the best French toast I have ever had. Served on a warm plate came a warm slice of sough dough french toast, topped with delicious cinnamon mascarpone and fruit compote. Not too sweet and not too savoury. Perfect. Then the coffee. Roasted themselves. Delicious, smooth and perfectly served. A good range of GF cakes too, I wish I had room. Thank you for giving me such a pleasurable hour and a break from the cold and impending snow.

Best coffee in Nottingham! I’ve been here 3 weeks searching for good coffee and I’ve finally found it! Along with the delicious food, comes fantastic, friendly staff and quick service. The little place was packed when I went and for good reason. An excellent crib - I’ll be making it my local.

First visit to the cartwheel cafe after hearing so many great reviews. It did not disappoint. The hot chocolate and gluten free Jaffa chocolate brownie was delicious. So many wonderful sweet treats to choose from with a wide variety of gluten free, vegan options. Atmosphere was lovely with beautiful little touches. Staff were helpful, friendly and attentive we’re very accommodating to my friends request for decaf coffee. Would definitely recommend.

We were just passing through Nottingham & found this cafe on Tripadvisor - and we stumbled upon one of the best coffee shops we've ever been to. The coffee was incredible, the food was delicious, & the staff were friendly & informative about the coffee. The guy spoke with passion about the coffee which we loved & could not have done more for us.

Perfect for intimate lunches, friends or a date - the food is so fresh and tasteful. Our server was great, and we didnt have to wait dispite service being busy.

Love visiting here to get a coffee and do some reading in a nice, friendly atmosphere. The staff are great and always really helpful when looking at all the different drink options that are available. The pour over is highly recommended!

In need of a decent coffee I searched Trip Advisor for a good independent coffee shop/cafe and picked the Cartwheel Cafe as it was close to the main shopping streets in Nottingham

An excellent little coffee shop that produces amazing coffee. Fabulous blend and they dont overheat the milk!! If I'm in the area i will be sure to stop in!

Decided to call here for brunch with my daughter whilst visiting Nottingham. We called after reading trip advisor reviews and were not disappointed. It was a Saturday and we were very lucky to get the last table inside. It has a buzzing atmosphere and the menu was different from the usual. I had two poached eggs on mashed pea and broccoli with pepper and it was delicious. We also had the smoothie which was very tasty and plain tap water. Service was efficient even though they were obviously very busy. A lovely place to visit.

I thought I’d grab a little breakfast on a quick stop in town, I headed for Carluccio’s because they have nice croissant and reliable coffee (and it would have been a great breakfast for sure) but I saw this place and decided to give it a whirl. I like smaller, independent coffee shops by preference. It’s quite small and cosy and there’s a buzz of quiet competence. I ordered a cappuccino and a pane au chocolat for ease and sat myself down. The menu tempted me into a rather interesting version of eggs benedict. The menu is ideal, the vegetarian and ample vegan selection are just quietly spread amongst the other offerings and you can find old favourites alongside innovative new temptations. Excellent! The food that arrived was nicely presented and delicious. But the coffee, now there’s a thing. A perfect little helping of delicious coffee wonderfully prepared by an obvious coffee ‘nerd’ (I mean this as a high accolade!). Very glad I walked in the door. Something I’ll be doing again and I heartily recommend you do too, if your taste is for authentic coffee and not the commonly available bucket of corporate adequacy from the ubiquitous coffee chains. Well done folks.

We don't visit Nottingham very often but when we do we make a beeline for this coffee shop. I am looking forward to our next visit when I hope to sample more of the food. Coffee excellent,food very good.

Great coffees, cosy, and is open on Sunday! Food looks and sounds delicious. My only suggestion for improvement would be to have some low volume, quality background music to add to the atmosphere.

Came across this cafe while shopping. Good table service, interesting looking specials. Partner has some allergies and staff were very knowledgeable about the ingredients in the food. The vegan special is fantastic and full of flavour! The coffee is also great, I love a cortado but find not many places over them so I was very happy. Will come again!

Decided to stop for a quick coffee which I love to do! The coffee was great and the only downside was rather than just ordering at the bar and paying, we were told to sit then people would come out to take our order. We then had to wait to pay once we wanted to leave.

I had been wanting to try Cartwheel for so long and finally went for the first time in August, I have since been 3 times! I usually have smashed avocado and poached eggs but at the weekend I had wild mushrooms, spinach and poached eggs and it was amazing, so tasty! Lovely coffee and service as always. Will return soon no doubt!

Went here for coffee and cake. Had a cappuccino and a white chocolate sponge cake with raspberries. Hands down one of the best cups of coffee I’ve ever had and the cake was perfect. The waiter was great and talkative. Please go if you’re in Nottingham!
