Cartel Battersea in Wandsworth

On the outside, it’s a Mexican restaurant/bar. On the inside it’s a bar that serves Mexican food. I was expecting to hear some Latino music at the very least. This did not happen! The music played was being played in the hope it’d attract passers by. The menu looked good. The tacos and empanadas tasted great. Their were varying degrees of spicy sauces which is a great touch. The burrito was a disappointment, it was flavourless to say the least. The staff were very friendly and the place was clean. Just a few minor adjustments to get 5 stars from me

Menú sencillo que es muy bien ejecutados - patatas fritas, guacamole y salsas son una prueba. Todos los tacos también eran excelentes. Servicio rápido y atento, y un ambiente relajado. Perfecto para una noche de marcha en Battersea. Sin duda volveremos para probar el burritos!

I don’t usually post reviews but since I grew up in California eating authentic Mexican food regularly, I have been searching for a place now that I’m living in London with good quality Mexican food. I am very surprised this place received on average four stars Gave this place two just since the food was technically edible and didn’t give me food poisoning. This is not good quality, this is not Mexican food, this was gross. I had to unwrap my burrito half way through to search for beans since I was unsure if they were even in there. Supposed to come with quac which, again, if it did, was invisible. There was a mountain of rice - props that it wasn’t white rice, but it wasn’t traditional red Mexican rice either. Cheese was grainy and disgusting. Only saving grace is that the guac and chips were decent. Guac has far too much lemon/lime in it but it was good consistency and tortilla chips were nice. On top of the extremely high price for whatever you call this type of food, I will be taking my search elsewhere to find Mexican food in London.

El personal actuó como se preocupaba por los clientes. Visitamos este lugar ya que era el Cinco de Mayo, pero por desgracia estaba realmente decepcionado por el servicio. El personal parecía totalmente desinteresado en sus clientes, a pesar del hecho de que no era tan completo para un super soleado Sábado y tomar nuestra orden nos sentimos muy de prisa. Las margaritas eran geniales, pero eran extremadamente pequeñas, teniendo en cuenta el precio de £9 etiqueta. Entonces esperamos toda una hora para que la carne de ternera (que era de tacos) tibia. Y 15 minutos más tarde nuestro batatas, goteo en aceite. Este lugar es sin duda tiene potencial, pero le falta ambiente, y necesita completar una nueva dirección, si se ejecuta correctamente, esto podría ser una chispa en Battersea!

What I really liked about this place, it’s different to anything in Battersea. It’s not a pub, much more fun place where the nice music is playing, the food is great and fresh, plus they serve fantastic cocktails. You can order vegan and vegetarian food which is lovely, have a nice drink and enjoy your evening. 👍

Was walking past this place and happens to poke out nose in. Cool Design for a bar. Nice place, and standard London pricing. Not too sure about the cardboard box in the ladies toilet? Apart from That, had a really good time!

Great bar/restaurant for drinks and tasty light meals. I've been on a couple of occasions, most recently for my birthday party with a few friends and had a fantastic time. Good range of tequilas and mezcals (try the coffee tequila) and very tasty dishes indeed. Thank you Cartel.

Visited on Friday 26 Jan with another couple after their recommendation and Mexican links. Friendly staff, knockout cocktails and good food. But................. there is no atmosphere and it really is expensive. Max of four tables taken all night. £180 for 4, food and drink. Thank god the cocktails were on happy hour. The whole place need a sparkle of soul. The main road doesn’t help but other restaurants thrive in a similar location. Really hope it survives but needs a few tweaks.

I unfortunately had my birthday party at cartel last night. Wheredo i start.... Lets say that i will not be going back anytime soon. Food was average to poor. Took ages for food to come On the website it says that if you book a party table of 10 or more you will get a free bottle of champagne. What the wrdsite does not say is that that particular offer ran out apparently in November! Why is it still on the website Cartel? Not very good practice! Had to chase waitresses for napkins and sometimes it was quicker to walk to the bar and get them yourself because there were no napkins at all on the table. I asked if there was a dj playing that night and the answer was.... not sure, he normally comes in around 11pm but i will check for you.... never came back to me. At that point we decided to leave as all if my guests were so disappointed with the overall service that it stopped being funny. All I can say about Cartel is .... AVOID AVOID AVOID! as one of the previous comments says that place is about as Mexican as a bottle of Vodka. 1000% correct i know understand what they meant.... wow!

There used to be a truly terrible Tex-Mex on this site, and this couldn't be more different. I like the new look exposed brick walls and stripped down tables. The staff are great. It's a small menu, but there enough variety on there and good things to share. The cocktails are amazing.

A vibrant small (tequila-) bar, restaurant, also offering live music. Located on Battersea Park Road (West). See the pic to get an idea of what is on offer!!! Very nice, competent staff and great ambiance,,especially in the evenings. I wholeheartedly recommend this place.

There are only a couple of restaurants in London that can do tacos. This is one of them. As always, any taco joint in London is gonna be pricey, but its worth it when curry just won't do.

It is great to have a new restaurant restaurant in the area. Cartel is very relaxed and the food is great. I was a little disappointed by the Margaritas, which tasted a little synthetic and lacked some of the sharpness I had hoped for. But nevertheless, they were very drinkable! I have been twice now and prefer to go earlier rather than later. As the night goes on the music gets very loud and the restaurant sort of becomes a club - or at least it did on the Saturday I visited. It's a little strange. Nevertheless, I will definitely be back and look forward to more delicious food.

This is a bar that sells expensive small snacks. It has a large mural by the entrance that appears to have been painted with a stick, and an inventive use of used scaffolding planks for some of the decor, but that does not make it "Mexican".. It sports two claustrophobic gender-neutral toilets that have no discernible sound proofing and a naive belief that guys actually lift the seat. The menu was printed so small on a A4 sheet you need a magnifying glass, which may come in handy when your order arrives. Our party of three ordered tacos at £6 each -which consisted of two mini 4 inch taco bases with a spoonful of filling aimed at the centre. Had to order an extra "taco" to split between two. They wanted £5 for tortilla chips ! (large bag 88p in supermarkets) No side salad as expected. Staff indifferent to our concerns when raised. The menu was itemized when it should have presented a complete properly sized taco with side salad and tortilla chips for about £10 or so a head. I have been in many Mexican restaurants, and this is not one. [One of our party googled a taco on their phone for a comparison] This is a bar.

Bit of a hidden gem if you like Tequila and Mezcal. They have an amazing selection, with friendly staff to help you navigate them.
