Took a friend visiting from abroad and we had a great night. The staff were really helpful and friendly, the music set a the right atmosphere and the food and drinks were great. The only problem is deciding which cocktails to have as they're all yummy. Managed to work our way through most of them between us ;) For food I'd recommend the beef tacos, they were spot on! New management seem to really be ready to make this place a great neighbourhood venue. They managed the busy evening well, doing their best to build a relationship with us even though they were clearly busy. New cocktails are fantastic and really go well with the great street food style sharing menu. Overall a fantastic night and will definitely be visiting again soon. Booked for dinner last Saturday evening. On arrival we were given option of staying upstairs or going downstairs. We chose to stay upstairs, before the waiter politely suggested we move downstairs because there was more room. With no service for 10 minutes, one of us went upstairs to get someone, but the owner stated there was no service downstairs, despite having a booking for dinner. The owner claimed we didn't have a booking and she asked why we went downstairs if we wanted service, to which we replied her waiter told us to. She began then openly arguing with us! The bearded waiter did his best to bring us around, but the owner had gone too far. Long and short of it was that we, upped, left and went to Bills around the corner (great food, great service). Unimaginably poor customer service from the owner who appeared to resent working a Saturday night!

Came with a group of about 12 for a birthday. Food took well over an hour. The waiter kept coming with random dishes that no one had ordered. They also ran out of sweet potato fries and didn't bother to tell us all. We had to ask them where they were. To top it off they didn't bring any cutlery and one of our party had to go get them. Shame because what food they did bring was quite nice. Won't be back though. Hopeless

Four of us went for New Years Eve. We paid £70 each for all inclusive drinks and food and had a great night but there is definitely room for improvement. Cons: The food wasn't great but to be honest we didn't expect much for the amount we paid. We had been there for just an hour before all the premixed cocktails run out. An hour after that (11.00) they shut the upstairs bar and tried to make everyone move down to the cramped downstairs bar. The downstairs bar was hugely understaffed and when staff did get round to serving you, they had no clean glasses. Pros:The house band was amazingOne of the bar staff (in a Hawaiian shirt) was excellent

Went there to have a dinner on Friday evening - wrong decision! Music (some random non-Spanish club tunes) was way too loud to have any normal conversation and we had to wait 40 minutes for some quesadillas and tacos. And there were only 2 tables besides us! It's a street food so shouldn't take more that 15 minutes. Food was ok (been to Mexico 3 times so know how it should be) and portions pretty normal sized but it's a joint that seems to have an identity crisis - tequila bar or hipster Mexican restaurant. At the moment it's neither.

This used to be one of our favourite places in Putney, which we frequented on almost a weekly basis. The food is generally very good, the staff are excellent and, in particular, the live music on a Thursday evening differentiated from every other bar in Putney. However, due to unknown reasons, El Patron have decided to no longer have any live music during the week. We have been back a couple of times on a Thursday but without the live music, the atmosphere is dead and the bar lacks the vibrancy of before. Regrettably, I can't see us returning because, in all honesty, there are other better bar options that just serves cocktails and has a DJ at the weekend. Real shame.

Really disappointed probably sums up my whole experience. Been looking forward to trying this place for ages and I wish I hadn't. I booked a table for 8.30, arrived and it wasn't ready so told to go for a drink downstairs and someone would get us, not a problem but after 20 mins no one had come to get us and when we went upstairs to ask just told to sit anywhere now there were a few tables. Waitress pretty much ignored us all night til we flagged her down, took another 20 mins to get a beer (which arrived complete with bottle top - was told she didn't have a bottle opener, could I open it myself) and menu and following our order the food took a further hour at least to arrive. I always read poor reviews and think people overestimate how long their waits were but I booked a table for 8.30 and I didn't eat until 10.15. Not even a hint of an apology. The only saving grace was the food which was well priced and tasty, but how long can it possibly take to cook a taco.

This experience was truly awful. On returning to Putney for the weekend I thought I would visit. This place used to have such a vibrancy about it, It would seem it is either under new management and has taken a turn for the worse. The table we were seated on was sticky and still had reminisce of the previous diners food on it. The service was very poor with the staff being to busy talking amongst themselves and eating food in the kitchen. After talking to one of the staff while paying my bill it would seem that they are not paid and rely 100% on the cash tips to survive, and card service is withheld from them! My daughter works as a waitress and I pray she is never subjected to such disrespect within her own place of work. This place should be closed immediately.

I was early for an appointment and needed to complete some work so took a seat at this restaurant bar. The cocktail list was extremely tempted and I’m a fan of a margarita but my best friend got me onto chilli margaritas and I thought it looked like the kind of place that would do one well. I ordered the drink and the most incredible cocktail arrived. It had the perfect amount of kick, allowing you to enjoy the gorgeous margarita flavour whilst giving sufficient heat from the chilli. I’ll be returning and I suggest you order a chilli margarita – they will change cocktail hour forever!

Great casual dining environment but food and drinks were very disappointing. Had chicken, pork, beef tacos and chicken quesadillas. Chicken and pork were dry. Chicken quesadillas looked and taste like something came out of a school kitchen where a bunch of 5 yo were cooking with their parent volunteers. The only acceptable dish was beef. There were 3 of us and 2 of us had at least 5 frozen margaritas. None were frozen nor were they in any margarita glass. There is but some lumps of slush swimming in water. All 3 of us came up to £98++. This is a no brainer to decide if you want to spent your money there.

The staff were pleasant and accommodating, the (lamb) burritos were delicious and the prices were fair. My first time (and probably the last) at El Patron as I live nearby and always curious to explore new places. The atmosphere is very nice, live music, comfy, not too big and ideal for a night out with friends, but the food was horrible and overpriced. We had burritos (£10 each) which were dry, tasteless and poorly presented. Tortilla chips were a rip off as with £5 we had 25grams of them perhaps and sweet potato fries were oily and again portion was a joke.Drinks are ok, but again overpriced (a bottle beer £5), so I' d suggest to go there only for one drink if you're really curious about El Patron.

I hadn’t been to this bar before, but had heard good things and it was close to home, so me and a friend thought we would give it a go for NYE. The ticket was £70, which included entry, food and all drinks which I have to say was definitely worth it and I feel I got my monies worth. The bar had a really good selection of drinks including tequila based cocktails, which were made to perfection with really friendly bar staff and a fast service. We sat upstairs and ate our tacos and nachos which were really tasty and a good portion size. We then went downstairs (underground level) where the party began. The house band (Truly Medley Deeply) were brilliant, they created a really fun/ party atmosphere. They do lots of popular covers all mashed up, which was great to sing along to! I had many cocktails throughout the evening and never found I had to wait too long to be served. The DJ was great too. Overall a very fun and enjoyable evening. I can’t wait to visit again!

So we spent the night dancing and singing along to the music. So much fun! It's a small, dark, underground bar, so it was busy and hot; I loved this, it added to the party atmosphere and everyone was having fun dancing and singing with each other! All in all, it was a brilliant night, and great value for money. It started bad, and it wasn't precised on website when i made the reservation. A kind barmaid finally found us 3 cold tacos for dinner. Anyway, it's better than Nothing. We go downstairs to get a drink at the bar, and it was awful : Only 2 poor over busy barmen for a huge band of young thursty and already drunk people. Interesting place, and a breath of fresh air amongst some of the "safer" Putney restaurants. There are two floors - at ground level you have a restaurant that serves excellent value latin American food. We actually over ordered because we assumed the dishes would be small given the price - they were actually quite large (and good value).Downstairs is a bar which feels quite "alternative". Plenty of tequila but for reasons known only to the restaurant, no vodka ("we are a tequila bar"). Recognising that not all punters would agree that tequila is a session drink, they might be missing a trick.Recommended.

The only positive part of our experience was the young female waitress, who was apologetic and rushed off her feet.Am also suspicious and not impressed that the business is only taking cash.... something that didn't used to happen. We decided to hold a 30th birthday party for a dear friend here last week! We booked the brunch at £25 per head and there were over 32 of us. On booking we were told we could enjoy the brunch and stay on for the evening party which sounded ideal for such a large group. We made several calls to the venue prior to arrival letting them know how big the booking would be and what a special occasion it was.On arrival we were told the card machine was not working (!) and that we were not allowed to decorate at all which we felt was unreasonable considering the size of the booking and the occasion. We also wanted to leave the cake in their fridge over night so it would be ready to surprise the birthday girl on the day and were told we were not allowed to. The live music and the 2 bar men working in our downstairs section were fantastic but the rest of the staff were very unwelcoming and asked us to leave before 6pm so they could clean up and prepare for the next booking even though we hadn't finished. As soon as we got outside they locked the door! It's a shame as we would have stayed and spent EVEN more with them had they been more welcoming. We ended up being out celebrating until 2am - time and money that could have been spent at El Patron! Luckily on this occasion the company meant we all had a great time but overall the staff are very unwelcoming and un-accommodating. If you are booking for a large group and a special occasion i would reconsider.

I came here for a birthday recently and the bar staff were great and lots of fun! We were told to get there for 1.30 as that's when the live music started but in fact it didn't start until after 2pm and it finished just over an hour later. We were initially enticed by the fact we were told everyone got sombreros and moustaches but only one sombrero was available and they had no stock of quite a few tequilas. The food was nice, we had to order more dips but they obliged and the burritos were very filling. The margaritas tasted lovely but very sugary, it would be nice to alternate between margarita and perhaps a less sweeter drink as a lot of my friends had acid reflux. I would go back again as this place on a normal day has delicious food which is reasonably priced, the brunch just wasn't quite as amazing as we had hoped. But still had a great day!

Read reviews about the Saturday brunch on here so thought we'd give it a try. 6 of us went for the brunch; it's £25 a head which gets you a 3 course meal and unlimited margaritas. The 3 courses are chips and dip to start, a breakfast burrito for the main, and churros for dessert. The chips and dip are pretty standard, and you share 1 plate between 2 people. The burrito was ok, not bad but the bacon seemed a bit undercooked and soggy. The churros had a good taste but were a bit tough, and again you share 1 plate between 2 people, so overall not a huge amount of food.I was worried the idea of unlimited margaritas was too good to be true, and it was. They do both regular lime and also a strawberry version and both were SO sharp it was practically unbearable. Everyone in our group was having trouble drinking them. There was a really overpowering taste of pure lime juice and they just weren't good at all, and didn't taste very strong; for the amount we drank we shouldn't have been that sober. Clearly the reason they're unlimited is that they're weak and taste bad. Pretty sure the taste is tactical so customers won't go through too many jugs. Either way it was disappointing overall and I wouldn't go back. Worth noting that all staff were really polite and friendly

Well, what a shame this was. About 16 of us descended one gorgeous Saturday morning in mid-September and were seated on wobbly stools (gripe number 1) in an a windowless cellar (gripe number 2) for an atmospheric and busy Mexican bottomless brunch. Gripe number 3 comes when the atmospheric band took to the stage all microphones and amps resulting in any ongoing conversations had to stop or only continue by screaming into my friends ears...As for the food, we waited well over half an hour for our order, but that was fine, we had bottomless margaritas! Which contained practically no alcohol whatsoever (gripe number 4) where we were able to drink 8 or 9 of these without any affect whatsoever other than sugar coated teeth and brain freeze. When the food arrived it was only ok. I say ok because it's hard to do a burrito wrong, but they came close... not very big, filling was decent enough I guess but the only meat was a couple of cubes of bacon. And then it was over. £25 please. Plus tip. For slushies and a poor burrito and I can only assume the bottomless bit was the margaritas and not the food but I've made better breakfast burritos myself. Chilli, beans, quinoa, scrambled eggs. Perfect. Next time I'll just get my friends round to mine and charge £25 for the experience.

So much fun, went here on Saturday for the bottomless brunch which was a bargain. Staff were really friendly and we assumed there would be a catch to the bottomless brunch but it was exactly the opposite, we were having jugs of cocktails brought to us before we had finished the one we were drinking. It was pretty bush and soon the party took off, a live band had people doing the conga in the street. Loved the place and can't wait to visit again

Finding a decent Mexican in London seemed to be impossible, but that all changed since discovering El Patron! I had the Chicken fajitas which were fantastic. We also got two types of salsa for the table (one medium hot and one spicy) with of course the secret guacamole which was delicious! As for the drinks if you're a tequila lover, then El Patron will not disappoint. Overall a great experience, great service and very reasonably priced. Easy to find location in Putney as it's right near the station. Will definitely be returning, and really want to check out their brunch as everyone seems to rave about it.

I've only heard good things about this place, so when a friend suggested we go here for a boozy brunch I couldn't have been more excited. The breakfast burritos were incredible followed by some seriously delicious churros! The atmosphere was buzzing from the second we walked in and the frozen margaritas flowing! The Live band were amazing only added to the experience. I would seriously recommend El Patron for brunch, I'm a HUGE fan of mexican food and was not disappointed!

I went with a few friends to try the bottomless brunch here a few weeks ago, and we had a great time - the free margaritas were deliciously tangy (and I don't normally like margaritas particularly) and forthcoming, and we all enjoyed our breakfast burritos and the tacos and dip as well. DEFINITELY save some room for the churros - these were such a delicious end to the meal and very crispy and hot and fresh. Definitely worth a visit if you're looking for somewhere for a fun, boozy brunch on a Saturday and I will 100% be returning.

Amazing latino-inspired experience. El Patron's tortilla chips were light and tasted fantastic. You could tell they were freshly made. The guests can create their own burrito, choosing between an amazing homemade guacamole, bacon, salsa verde, fried egg, pinto beans and cheese. Then, the star of the brunch; crispy churros, served with warm chocolate sauce. The frozen margaritas were amazing. Excellent for a great saturday brunch. I will definitely go here again, both for food and service.

We ordered 3 dishes a cocktail and a beer, and had plenty to share between us. The service was relaxed, friendly and very helpful. In total our bill came to about £30 which for a restaurant in London is extremely reasonable. Unlike other London restaurants, they didn't automatically add 12.5% service charge onto the bill either. The popularity of this place says a lot for the value for money and the quality of the food. I suspect they could probably charge a little more and still have very happy customers!I will definitely be returning.

I went to El Patron with nine friends recently to have the bottomless brunch option that is available on Saturdays and I was hugely disappointed! After booking two and a half weeks in advance I was surprised to find that our table was outside and only half covered by a shelter on a rainy day.The supposedly unlimited frozen margaritas were barely palatable as they were so sour and acidic. There was barely any alcohol in them if any. The idea was that we would have two hours of unlimited drinks so we were confused when after an hour and a half we were told we had had our last round. After pointing out to the waitress that it hadn't been two hours they reluctantly brought us one more round whilst telling us they needed to make sure they had enough left for other customers?! We hadn't had that many rounds anyway because they were so unappetising so this comment hinting that we were being greedy with them was most unwelcome! We were each brought a breakfast burrito with our own individual choices of fillings. My sister, who is both a vegetarian and lactose intolerant, was brought what she was told was her no dairy no meat burrito but much to our dismay it contained both bacon and cheese which we only discovered once she had already taken a bite! They prepared her a new burrito (which she had to wait some time for while we all ate) but they were not willing to take even a part of her meal off the bill despite her having reluctantly eaten meat and cheese when she is a vegetarian and allergic to cheese! It is understandable that mistakes like this do happen but I would have thought that after such an incident they would be willing to at least partially discount her meal. Eventually they agreed to wave the service charge which of course is optional anyway. For the last part of brunch we were served churros which we had to wait at least 45 minutes for. When they finally did arrive two small plates came and so we assumed more were on their way but after waiting a while sure enough that was it between the ten of us - would have been barely enough for 4 or 5 people!Safe to say I will not be going back to El Patron any time soon - unfriendly waitresses, average food and unpleasant cocktails falsely advertised as unlimited!

We ate one friday night in July. Awful service (the staff did not know the wine list and seemed more interested in themselves than the customers), disgusting food (all I could taste in the burritos was dried herbs, and thetortilla chips had been fried in oil that needed changing), uncomfortable seating, dark and dingy. I'm never going back again!!!

Visited this restaurant for my mum's birthday (she loves anything latino) for Sunday Brunch. The waiting staff are useless. Poor, slow service. Though friendly, they made a huge fuss about my dad (driving) and sister (13) not wanting alcoholic margheritas until I called over a manager who sorted the problem in under a minute. They also had to be repeatedly prompted for simple things like napkins (though they gave us no cutlery!) and water for the table. The food is good, delicious nacho chips, great burritos and churros to finish. The margheritas, though bottomless, are tasty but hugely lacking in alcohol. You can choose between lime or raspberry but both are made very sharp (I'm guessing to hide the lack of tequila). I had 4 in an hour and walked out as sober as I walked in.For £25.00 a head (same price for those of us not drinking, btw) it's a lot of money for not a great experience.I have to give a glowing review of the music though. The gorgeous and talented singer with the amazing percussionist were the only real highlight of the day (though being seated directly next to them meant we couldn't have a conversation while they performed).

Both very tasty, the burrito is BIG, seriously big, without losing any quality. All the night the music in the background playing rock classics and the attentive staff helped to make the night flow.We finished with tequila shots of course. Conclusion: I have no idea aobut mexican food, but I can tell this is a great place to eat and have a drink. 10/10

Went on a Friday night. Were sat downstairs which was dark and noisy. Slow service, waiters were more interested in talking amongst themselves rather than serving their customers. The waiter also had no idea about the wine list, surprising seeing as there were only about 5 red wines on the list. It wouldn't have taken much for him to familiarise himself with the wine list.We ordered tortilla chips which tasted as if they had been fried in oil that needed changing. When we asked for more salsa it took 20 minutes to arrive, by which point our main courses arrived. We both ordered burritos which I can honestly say were the worst I have ever eaten. All i could taste were dried herbs. We were made to hand over a credit card halfway through our meal as we were told that a band was about to start playing. Said band never materialised whilst we were there. We couldn't wait to get out of the place anyway.

Came here on a Friday evening after work with my girlfriend. I love Mexican food and needed to try it, and she loves cocktails......so win win! The place looks great, well decorated, plenty tables and a great atmosphere. We went for a few plates of tacos to share......you can't fault some tacos!! She went for a cocktail, I went for Mexican beer. All food and drink was brought out to us quite quickly and the service from our waitress was great. I loved the food, right up my street.......however, we both found it to be a bit too greasy....to the extent we felt a little bit queasy afterwards. I understand the type of meat used, and the process in which it is cooked can be greasy, however, I've had similar tacos elsewhere in London and abroad and never experienced this greasyness. This is our only grievance with the place, aside from that it was spot on.......I'd still go back, don't think the Mrs would like to join...she was put off by the grease! Give it a try, worth it!

Booked here after reading a little snippet about it in Stylist magazine....£25 a head for Saturday brunch with unlimited margaritas. I couldn't actually find any info on this online but booked anyway. When we arrived the waitress explained we would get 3 courses and unlimited margaritas. You get to choose from either lime or raspberry and they are delicious! And not exactly weak either which is what I was expecting from a place offering unlimited drinks. The food was really great, it's a set menu so you get chip and dip to start, a hearty and delicious personalised buritto for main and churros for dessert. Delicious and fab value! You aren't expected to rush from course to course so I would advise reserving for the whole 2 hours (this only runs between 1 - 3) an enjoy the drinks and atmosphere. Loved the live music downstairs, and the staff were attentive and friendly. This would be a fab start to a Saturday with friends, I will definetly be going back for more Brunch fun and to try the weekday menu also.

My husband and I stopped in here after work as we love Mexican food and thought we would try out this local restaurant.Decor inside is well done and it had a nice buzzy atmosphere. The main thing that let the experience down was poor service - we had to wait about 20 mins to order our food and even then only ordered because we called over to the waitress. Food came out quickly but staff were not attentive at all. It seemed that there were only 2 waiters working and where the restaurant offers cocktails, one of the staff was just constantly making cocktails so that only left one to serve which wasn't enough. Good selection of cocktails but only offered 1 beer (no beers were included on the drinks menu which is strange) which was Sol, disappointing considering there are so many great Mexican beers.Food was alright...good value for money as most of the dishes were £5-7 (similar menu and price to Tortilla Grill and Benitos Hat etc) and fairly tasty but the meat in both the pulled pork tacos and the chicken burrito was a bit greasy. Tortillas and guacamole for starter was tasty and authentic.Overall poor service really let down the experience and it seems El Patron doesn't really know what it wants to be - food equivalent to a fast food Mexican with a bar/ club feel in a sit down restaurant.

What began as a very pleasant evening unfortunately ended up turning sour. A medical emergency in the group meant that we had to leave the restaurant in a hurry; the bill was paid in a rush and only later did we realise that we had been massively overcharged. When we politely asked about this we were given no satisfactory response and received no form of refund. A medical emergency is not an opportunity to exploit your customers, and I think the situation was handled disgracefully.

We hired the downstairs bar for a private work function which was excellent. The manager and staff were very accommodating to all of our requests. Food was outstanding with the pork tacos being a personal highlight. Drinks were as you expect from a Mexican bar - heaps of beer and tequila. The two main highlights of the evening were the house band (which play there every Friday night) and the service provided by the staff. Great service always leads to a great evening. The Manager here is an absolute disgrace, as I can see from other reviewers she doesn't seem to understand the number one rule of running a successful restaurant... the customer is always right! She squeezed me and my girlfriend on a table next to another couple on a table and when I asked why we hadn't been put on a table of two, we were abruptly told that this wasn't "fine dining" and loads of other places did it. What an absolute joke, no apology, nothing. The food was actually great but the Manager will run this place out of business. If the owner is reading these reviews, I seriously suggest hiring someone more courteous for a front of house position.

I was utterly disgusted at the level of customer service by the Manager of this restaurant. I booked a table for 2ppl for 8pm, however when my partner and I arrived at 7:59pm we were told to "wait downstairs as the table is not ready because we are early" 1 minute early infact.. Am I being punk'd?Finally arrived at our table, to my disgust we were the only couple sitting on a group table with another couple crammed in the middle- brilliant. Obviously, as this is not the norm and we were obviously not booked in for a group booking we complained to the 'Manager' who repeatedly told us that "We are like Waggamamas" no..no, surely you wouldn't compare yourself to another restaurant? we then told the awfully unkind 'manager' know that we would like to be moved tables as a spare table had just become available, in which her response was "I thought you didn't want to eat here!"Appaling managerial skills, maybe she should apply for a job at waggamama.

On the outside, it’s a Mexican restaurant/bar. On the inside it’s a bar that serves Mexican food. I was expecting to hear some Latino music at the very least. This did not happen! The music played was being played in the hope it’d attract passers by. The menu looked good. The tacos and empanadas tasted great. Their were varying degrees of spicy sauces which is a great touch. The burrito was a disappointment, it was flavourless to say the least. The staff were very friendly and the place was clean. Just a few minor adjustments to get 5 stars from me

Dumped my nearer Mexican that does similar, this place nails the trendy modern casual Mexican thing... Thank you guys !!! See you soon.
