Ok for a coffee but the staff were terrified of any customers. Not allowed to use the toilet. Long wait for coffee. Shouted at to wear masks we were already wearing. Seemed paralysed by fear - I would avoid even trying to sit inside. They were happy for people to sit outside. Though it was raining hard. Such a shame as a delightful village and would have been a nice break from our walk.

What a horrible experience! The woman working here made the place unbearable; angry and loud she made sure everyone knew about and shared her bad mood. This was the only place and only person we found to be unpleasant in the whole of our trip to Yorkshire. The food and drink would also have been disappointing in 1970, although wouldn’t be surprised to learn the cake was that old. Over priced and revolving on every level.

After our last visit to this little tea room 3yrs ago we were looking forward to another visit. The place was empty of customers upon our arrival and it was a good 25 minutes before a family of 3 arrived despite plenty of people being in the area. The menu seemed much smaller on our recent visit with just a sandwich or homemade soup being the more substantial offerings. Scones or traybake type snacks was the other offering. The soup was ok but lacked seasoning and was on the very small side for the price of £4.80. Sandwiches were ok but nothing to write home about with pre-packed ham being used. Service was very slow despite us being the only customers at the time. The (with the greatest respect intended) older ladies serving appeared a little apprehensive so I came to the conclusion they were maybe filling in while someone had a day off. I can only surmise this place has changed hands since our last visit.

Expensive and No Prices Displayed. We bought one coffee, one tea, small cake and a cheese bap that had a side salad which was just lettuce and tomato cut in half. The cost was over £11. Damned expensive for a Yorkshireman! The lady that worked there was on the phone whist she was serving us, having two conversations at the same time. Would not go again.

Had lunch here twice in our most recent visit to Wenslydale. (Learned later that Clara - the owner - was a cousin of a late friend from the Askrigg area). Quality of food is excellent. Young Asian lady of a year ago has learned a great deal of English! Very homely establishment where nothing is too much trouble.

Having walked across from Hawes we anticipated enjoying a nivpce latte and a piece of cake, at the time we visited (early Sunday morning) there were 3 elderly ladies who may or may not have all worked in the establishment more concerned about a friends return from hospital in the need of a drink (wine) rather than making customers feel like customers. The lattes we were served were likely the worst I have ever tasted and likewise the choice of cake which we declined was either an old looking fruit cake or a couple of yesterday's buscuits. Disappointed and would not return.

Just passing after visiting Hardraw waterfall and decided that a coffee in the sunshine would be nice. Unfortunately sitting in the sunshine was the best part of this experience. The cafe looked to be very basic when I went in to order the coffee and the people seemed to be working off a stainless steel trestle table. They were not busy when I went in and it was a one man queue i.e me but getting their attention look a couple of minutes. Coffees were ordered without any eye contact, smile or greeting from the lady serving. Coffees were duly delivered about 15 minutes later and was the worst coffee I have had in several months. It was devoid of flavour and bitter. Despite this and the cheap plain mugs the coffees were served in, the price for an 'Americano' was £2.00 per cup. The customer experience on paying was similar to ordering. In short, this is a place to avoid if you want coffee!

Happened to pass whilst out walking and thought we would stop for coffee and cake. It was a little strange having the freezer and sink for washing up in the cafe. We expected something quainter but the coffee cups were just plain white etc. The waitress only spoke to take our order and our money, even though the place was very quiet. The cake and coffee was nice. It just could have been more memorable.

Made the short walk here after visiting Hardraw Force for two cream teas, which were really good and were just what was called for after the short walk. And the cream was homemade, heard them whisking it! Café certainly of the unfussy variety but sort of added to the appeal

Stayed at the campsite a few years ago. Tea room was fine, so we called today, and found the tea room so different! Kitchen sink and fridges etc are now moved into the tea room resulting in only 3 tables to sit at. We were sat drinking our tea whilst watching the staff wash the pots. The service was poor, the staff only talked to take our order. Ignored us the rest of the time although we were the only people in. Scone with jam and cream was disappointing to say the least. It came already assembled, with the scone buttered, and the cream could have been better, as it was "squirty" cream consistency. Really wished we had saved our £10 (2 scones, and 2 teas) and gone into Hawes or Bainbridge. Really would not recommend this tea room, which is a shame because it used to be nice.

A delightful little tea room, with good home baked food. Polite staff, an ideal stop off for those who don't wish to frequent the pub over the bridge.

Popped in for a quick cuppa before visiting the falls. We had already had lunch but decided that we couldn't resist a quick scone with preserve and cream. The scones came ready assembled with the jam/cream which is unusual. The scones were good but the cream could have been better. We sat outside enjoying the mid afternoon sun and watching the peaceful village life go by.

Called in after visiting the waterfall for a quick snack and drink. Hot chocolate with cream was lovely and hit the spot on a chilly day. Cream and jam scones were also delicious, however, clotted cream would have given it the extra mile. Would visit again

Been to Hardraw several times over the years but had never been to the Cart House. My wife, her sister and myself had a light lunch. I had soup, coffee and a cheese scone - all very tasty. Most of the food here is organic. The lady owner was very pleasant; she was assisted by a lovely young Asian girl, who did not appear to have much English but had a lovely smile. Other local customers were happy to have a conversation. Very pleasant atmosphere. Oh yes, craft shop is also worth a look.

Walked from Hawes to Hardraw, and visited Cart House Tea Room for refreshment. We were shown into the 'side room' which was very cosy, and had a real fire burning which added greatly to the atmosphere. We ordered a round of hot drinks followed by food for all ( 4 adults and one 3 year old child), everything arrived in timely manner, was tasty and well cooked and hot. Whole of Tea room was very clean and had local pottery / artwork etc for sale which added to the interest. The lady who served us (assume the owner) was warm and welcoming, therefore top marks to this establishment.

We were in a group of much windblown and rained-on hikers looking for a break from the rain- they graciously let us in to order tea and eat the lunches we brought with us. Tea was excellent and reasonable, and the place is tidy and well-managed. I really hope to go back for more tea and try the soups and bread. A big thanks to them for their hospitality.

was looking forward to a cuppa and scone and thought that this would be a good place to call into. The lady running the place seemed more interesting in talking to here friend out the back (which we could here the whole conversation) rather than saying hello and taking our order, felt like it was an inconvenience to go in. When we did get the scones, she had slapped on some jam and cream, which tasted like cream from a spray can, plus the scone was really dry and no fruit. Sounds a little silly I know, but when you go for tea and scone you expect proper jam, not shop bought cheap stuff, nice cream (preferably clotted) and assemble your self to your taste. Overall I would advise people to avoid

We popped in for lunch after seeing the waterfall behind the pub and, finding the pub a bit too stuffy, walked along the lane to the Cart House. It is a mixture of craft shop and tea room and felt like walking into someone's front room but there is additional seating in a separate room which feels more like a country pantry. The service was great, no fake charm, no airs and graces but welcoming nonetheless. The lady taking care of us was clearly not an old hand but it added to the feeling of having descended mob handed and unannounced on your aunty, a feeling further enhanced by the offer to sit in the warmer room once a space vacated. The home made soups and cakes were delicious and the price very reasonable. Well worth a visit.

We popped in on a Monday night as all the pubs in the immediate area that we usually go to don’t open on a Monday We arrive at 5:30 opening time and were hardly greeted by Shannon We hadn’t booked, but she found us a table There was a lovely selection of beers and wines and an amazing menu with specials of the day On Mondays they do a night where you can get a sirloin steak for £12 with all the trimmings They also specialise in seafood and there were a number of dishes this included prawns lobsters, monkfish et cetera Who made soup of the day was courgette and sweet potato and this is delicious Between us, we had a steak and kidney pie and there’s also an option of a steak and kidney pudding and two of us had prawn and lobster Thermidor, which was delightful There is a very nice atmosphere in the restaurant. The staff are lovely and the toilets are clean. Thank you, Shannon to you and your colleagues and we very much look forward to our next physics

Tried this lovely pub for the first time earlier this week with friends for an evening meal off the weekday menu. I had Scampi which was wholetail, light batter , served with the best chips I’ve had in ages . Others had chicken and burger, all were beautifully cooked and quality ingredients. Eaton Mess was spot on and the sticky toffee and custard had us drooling ! The atmosphere was what you’d want in a lovely cosy country inn, the owners were very friendly, service friendly and quick without feeling rushed. They also accommodated our 2 large dogs offering a nice treat and water. We loved it that much we’ve just returned from Sunday lunch !! Prawn cocktail starters were excellent, more prawn than salad 👍, soup, black pudding and bacon , all served with a warm crusty roll, all were very good. 3 of us had roast beef dinners and one roast pork - the veg was cooked perfectly, as were the mash and roast potatoes. Yorkshire pudding were just right. None of us could find space for a pudding but the menu has something for everyone. We shall most definitely return again.

Excellent place. Clearly this last year has new management as this was a very good experience for 10 of us for lunch en route to our long weekend in Leyburn. Cosy log fire. Welcoming hand pulled cask (theakstons) pulled properly. Food excellent so to the service. Kerb side from road hides a super set up from the back and inside.
