I visited with my partner on Valentine's day 24 & couldn't fault the food or service as both we're excellent. We had a special Valentine's set menu and it was amazing! I've eaten here before a few times and the food has always been very good, but the lovely selection of sizzling starters with prosecco was a real treat, and the mains, coconut rice and garlic naan all delicious. We had to take pudding home as we were too full, but enjoyed the next day with a cup of tea! Orange cake was wonderful! We will be back soon. Thank you.

This building must be seen to be believed. An amazing curry house in an incredible art deco building. The food is second to none, best curry I have had in years. I had the Garden 21 with lamb - curry was excellent, I've never had lamb so tender in a curry before. The staff are always helpful and polite, portions are good. Atmosphere was a little lacking but only because we were the only ones left at 8pm on a wet wintery Thursday night...

Was really looking forward to going to this restaurant. I love the art deco period and this restaurant was originally the Carron tea rooms built in the 1930s. There are two entrances, the one that we used, which takes you straight into the dining area, is an open room with large original art deco windows. The other entrance takes you into a beautiful art deco bar area with comfy sofas. The corridor between the bar and restaurant has cleverly been designed as a train (see photos) giving you the experience of travelling on a train in India. This is a great idea but there was no-one sitting there during our visit. Our vegan requests were not an issue and the food was lovely, although the bhuna could have had more spice. It would have been nice to have had another option for non alcoholic drinks such as a cider or bottle of nozecco. Staff were attentive and professional, but could have been more welcoming and would have been nice to get a goodbye when we left the restaurant. Those are the personal touches thar make us want to go back. £45 bill was really good value for money. I read that there was a lot of money spent on restoring the art deco features in the restaurant, and i expected it to have more of a wow factor than in did, but it was lovely to see the mirror rumoured to have been designed by Picasso himself. Hidden behind the boring brown toilet doors are some lovely art deco toilets. Well worth a trip to this restaurant. A hidden gem.

Rice, naan and side dishes were excellent too.The prices were very reasonable for the quality.A visit to this restaurant is a must if you're in Stonehaven, its an experience in itself!

Waited an hour and then left, as we were still waiting for the starter (that was recommended to us as they didn't have scallops). A constant stream of takeaway orders, all staff answering phone for takeaway. After 45 mins with no contact asked how long for the starter - 5 mins they said. And hour in, we told them we were leaving and said we'd pay for the drinks. No apology, only thing they said was: don't worry about the drinks! In summary, greedy restaurant that puts money ahead of service. Also, the restaurant was freezing. THANKS FOR RUINING OUR EVENING.

Despite people showing up at different times (Facebook meeting time problem with the clocks going back), the staff were fantastic at ensuring we had something to eat in front of us, kept the drinks flowing, and able to adjust tables to accommodate the late arrivals. Food was delicious, cooked to order and presented beautifully. A mix of starters, rice and breads to the table meant no hassle in the ordering for a large group. Main courses did not disappoint. Fresh and tender meat, cooked to perfection and bursting with flavour. Vegetarians at the table were also pleased at their options and dishes presented. When it opened, the Carron was an excellent venue producing high quality curries with a higher than normal price to match. But it was good.My takeaway tonight was dreadful. I arrived 10 minutes early and found my meal already packed. When I got home, the pakora were mushy, and my chicken desi aroma was basically lumps of tasteless microwaved chicken with some generic sauce on top. No flavour had permeated the meat, and this is no way to create quality food. Sadly, was not at all impressed.

Yet again, another seriously poor show by this restaurant. I've had consistently poor experiences with the food here. I was offered a curry by a friend Friday night and I thought why not. After hovering near the toilet for two days and still not better, this is definitely the last time. As someone who has travelled India extensively and sampled real Indian cuisine from Mumbai to Chennai, nothing I have ever had from this restaurant or their twin takeaway, which are at present sharing premises, even close to resembles true Indian cusinine. There is nothing on the menu you would find in a real Indian restaurant. For a start, the order is wrong every time. There are either things missing, things you don't recognise, or extras added you've been charged for, every time. The bill is always wrong as the guybtaking orders seems to do all the sums in his head. We had complained about this before but it's impossible. You get offered replacements, which by the time you get them it's almost time for bed. On this occasion, I ordered Saag Paneer with Pilau rice, and one poppadom. I got plain rice, Saag Paneer, and ten poppadoms! No point complaining due to the reason already stated. The Saag Paneer was so unbelievably heavy with cream that it was nothing more than a stodgy mess. I couldn't, wouldn't finish it, and had a severely upset stomach within the hour. The rice was swimming in what looked like dirty oil. Frankly, this "meal" was rank and disgusting. I simply cannot believe the high ratings here. I can only summise that the people of this town have no idea of what real Indian food is really like and have seriously strong stomachs. There is not an Indian restaurant in this town. There are several badly run, incompetent restaurants doling out this rubbish in a shoddy manner. The personal hygiene of some of the staff is also well below par. If you like Indian food, avoid this place. Avoid this town. There are two or three amazing places in Aberdeen. You'd be well advised to drive to Aberdeen for your takeaway instead. You'd get better food, quicker and without hassle. Hse would do well to take a look at the operations and the kitchen here. No matter what, I wouldn't eat from here again if you paid me.

Decided to try here because of very favourable online reviews. The setting is one-off. An impressive art deco frontage (The Mumbai end) set back from a terraced garden complete with elephant statute front and centre. The interior is breathtaking and worth the visit alone. It has been tastefully and expensively fitted out to recreate a journey experience - off the street at the "other" end - Carron - and through a brightly-lit railway carriage reconstruction carriage with views of India through the windows. The food itself is worthy of the setting. There is Indian unsubtle and Indian subtle, and the latter is what you'll get here. Subtle spice infusions giving the most flavourful result. And the presentation too is artistic. WE found the food to be great value, and even more so given the totality of the experience with the attentive, efficient and cheery service to back it all up. Treat yourself!

Carron to Mumbai are absolutely adhering to lockdown rules, social distancing and are trying hard with the ordering/delivery process. Unfortunately, the review is entirely focussed on the quality of the food.Of the three curries ordered;1. The gravy tasted like tinned tomatoes and tandoori chicken seemed like the Tandoor did not fire up. Chicken was tough, not marinated and was just steamed and re-heated. No char.2. Fish, chickpea and spinach curry. Spices have obviously been in lockdown. Bland, bland, bland - could have been fantastic but certainly no fresh spices.3. Mango, honey chicken curry. Not my bag but probably the closest to the description than the other two. Tasted a lot like Kurma base sauce but sweeter. Contained same steamed, tough chicken pieces.Come on, North East Scotland. We can do better than this. The way that we can improve our take-always is to refuse this garbage - it’s nowhere near authentic.

The Carron was once a splendid “art-decor” fine dining experience, I was keen to return to see how the new owners had developed the restaurant. We entered from the north side. I was immediately taken by the revitalised decoration. The faux railway carriage was resplendent and new looking. The famous mirror remained a focal point. Overall the decor could not have been bettered. We were shown to a very comfortable and well presented table. Once the drinks order was taken papadums and spiced onions appeared effortlessly. The owners clearly put a lot of thought into the menu which was very enticing. When it was served the food was delicious. The staff were fabulous: courteous and engaging. So why no perfect 5? Two minor points which I’m sure can be sorted out. Firstly when the menu’s were presented two colleagues had to retrieve and share reading glasses assisted by myself and other colleague who had wrestled out our iPhones complete with torches. So a wee bit more light please. Secondly there seemed to be some confusion over what “COTD” stood for adjacent to the “white fish” dishes on the menu. I had (apparently wrongly) assumed that it stood for Catch Of The Day. This was not the case and I have to say my mixed fish curry was very tasty. I’ll certainly be back and let’s hope that The Carron to Mumbai keeps “on-track” for that perfect 5.

Excellent Indian food in charismatic surroundings in the heart of Stonehaven. You enter to see a replica train carriage which is fun to sit in, especially for families, but then emerge into a large Art Deco style dining room full of style. Very high quality Indian food - although not cheap - served by attentive and professional staff. Excellent range of dishes. Expect £20 a head minimum. Some beer on draft. Also a lovely garden for the summer. Recommended.

We live 1 minute walk from the Carron to Mumbai and have been many times. The restaurant is beautiful inside and the quality of food is in a different class compared to the other Indian restaurants in Stonehaven. My favorite dish is the Rajestany Shish Kadai. Bottle of house wine is good at £18.95. I find the best way to book a table is via their website and they usually confirm your booking within a few hours. Reading negative comments about billing, I have never had items added to my bill that I didn’t have and my bill has always been added up correctly. The red rose for the ladies on valentines night was a nice touch.

I was recommended to visit this Indian restaurant by someone from Stonehaven who I met on a walking tour. As I knew the building was in Art Deco style which my wife and I love we made the 240 miles round trip from Polmont just to have the buffet lunch there.Wow! The furnishings blew us away from the moment we stepped inside, down the long corridor fitted out like the interior of an old corridor railway carriage ( you can dine in that part too) and on to the main open plan dining area which is pure 1930s.The buffet was excellent with just the right amount of choice and we had lots of time to take photos of the interior and outside shots of the building too.Staff were friendly, attentive and service was quick and food was faultless.Certainly it was a bit chilly in the place but that was due to us having arrived just after opening - we were the only diners during our visit - and of course the art deco windows where we sat are traditionally single glazed for authenticity. The staff did however immediately provide portable heaters which were ideal.Whether you just want a great meal at reasonable cost or want to bask in great atmospheric surroundings this is a place not to be missed. It's a long journey for us but we will certainly be back.

Excellent mains, that couldn’t have surprised us more. Lovely! I’ll be taking the boys down here from ABN for “curry club” ASAP as it lived up the billing.

Incredible building, absolutely stunning. Food is very tasty too, it did however make me and my partner ill about 2 hours after dining. The music is a very bizarre choice of what can only be described as Indian house music blaring from a little stereo on the bar. So many good points just fell short in the basics.
