Spent a lot of time in this pub when passing in the area. Arrived for a family meal after a day out in Thirsk. The welcoming from the blonde/gray larger sized women was abysmal very cold and frosty, boarding on rude, like our custom was not wanted. It is such a shame as this pub has so much potential, the food prices had also increased and the quantity was far from what it was. I really hope some magic dust gets sprinkled on this place and some new management takes on this place soon. I do not want to spend my hard earned money on somewhere I am not welcomed.

Went with my wife for a roast dinner and wasn't disappointed. I had the chicken and my wife had the pork loin. The food was excellent in particular the mash potato. Both our meats were cooked to perfection. We found it odd that they serve cauliflower cheese with it and the broccoli and carrots were a bit hard but maybe that's down to our southern taste. Even though the pub was full the service was excellent and the food came out very quick. Very good value for money as well

Food good as usual unfortunately the management have decided to add 10 percent service charge onto bill without notifying the customer. We had to ask for it to be removed which was embarrassing and spoilt our night. We like to leave a tip but do not want to be dictated too about the amount. Due to this new policy we will not be returning.

The Blacksmiths Arms was recommended by a friend for Sunday lunch, we were not disappointed, with a huge carpark and a warm welcome we were shown the table we had previously booked. Drinks were brought and shortly our roast dinners arrived, plenty of everything and was delicious, followed by a gorgeous sticky toffee pudding, then relax in the bar area with more drinks and idle chitchat. The bill was very reasonable so would definitely recommend a visit, various interesting places nearby, Castle Howard, Sherriff Hutton Castle, Malton, Howardian Hills.
