First warm Welsh Cakes, made even sweeter by the queue of anticipation as you see them rolled, cut & cooked. Deliciously moreish & simple, just sugared.

Impolite staff, squeezing into the queue to get into the store without saying excuse me or any polite words. Frequently kept people in the queue waiting and served people from the other side of the queue to make it look like a popular store. No thank you or any greeting during the whole transaction. Not sure if this is a nice Welsh cake but I will not be going back regardless.

Nice & fresh! Exquisite food & great prices. A must visit in Cardiff market, absolutely don't miss. Food was super fresh, u can't get better than that! Everything was munched & gone in seconds. The only regret was that we did not buy more.

Used to visit twice a week. Good food but poor hygiene I found a piece of blonde hair in the middle of my welsh cake and I’m not blonde so definitely not my hair😢. I’ve been there numerous times and every time I see people accidentally falling objects right onto the pastries which is a bit disgusting for the people that buy them. I hope they can improve sanity standards, for now I won’t be visiting the store for a long time.

Always when you see a big queue fallow them they can't be wrong. When we saw the queue, we were about to give up and leave, but thanks God, I changed my mind !! Even when the queue was massive, it was going quite quick, at least during waiting, you cold watch how the Welsh traditional cakes have been made. Prices extremely low, i would say, especially for freshly made cakes. Quite big choice of cakes including one for diabetes which I found amazing. Please make sure the queue size won't stop you from getting some they are 100% worth it.

We came across Cardiff Bakestones by chance on our shopping trip to Cardiff, the queue gave us a good idea the Welsh cakes would be worth our wait. We bought 6 for £3. They were warm and soft, so tasty! Possibly the highlight of our visit to Cardiff. Our advice is join the queue, you won’t regret it - plus you get to see them being made fresh while you wait!

Called to purchase the famous welshcakes but really disappointed by the attitude of the young serving staff. Alright It appears there was a queue, but all that was needed was for the young lady who was wrapping and serving to politely point this out to me. I had been waiting for over 5 mins before I was briskly advised that there was a queue and that it started on the other side of the stall and she wouldn't be serving me. I pointed out that some sort of sign indicating this would have been beneficial not only to myself but to the other half dozen customers patiently waiting alongside me as well. Management take note basic courtesy costs nothing. Rant over.

I’ve never had Welsh cakes before but these little gems from Cardiff Bakestones are fantastic! We also sampled a few other goodies and everything was yummy. So good we went back the following day to stock up for the next few days of our journey. They prefer cash but will take a card for charges over 4lbs.

We tried the traditional Welsh cakes and tarts. All were excellent. But the Welsh cakes are exceptional. We were told it's a cross between scones and pancakes. I think it is better than both! Remember that cash is preferred but card accepted above 4 GBP of purchase.

The long queue can't be wrong. I bought some Welsh Cakes for friends I was visiting and the reaction was "these Welsh Cakes are much better than any others I've previously had." Never having had Welsh Cakes before, they were definitely tasty. The staff are friendly and helpful. A definite treat in Cardiff.

Delicious! It is located in Cardiff Market and is a must see if you are in the city. They are very good, but if you eat them freshly it is another level. There are different flavors, the traditional ones, with raisins, are a must; The salted caramel ones are also delicious, like the lemon ones. There are others with more typical flavors, such as chocolate or lotus cookie.

While wandering through Cardiff Market, I couldn’t miss the sight of Cardiff Bakestone with a queue so long it practically demanded attention. Naturally, I joined the line, drawn in by the promise of freshly made baked goods. The bakery offers a wide variety of treats, but its star attraction is undoubtedly the traditional Welsh cake. Curious to try this quintessentially Welsh delicacy, I ordered one. The staff were friendly and efficient, handling the rush with ease, and the cakes themselves looked appealing with their golden-brown finish. However, despite its popularity and freshly-made appeal, the Welsh cake didn’t quite hit the mark for me. The texture was pleasant enough—somewhere between a scone and a pancake—but I found the flavour rather plain and the sweetness a bit understated for my taste. Though the bakery itself is clearly well-run, and I can see why many would find comfort in the simple, traditional flavours, I can’t say I was won over by the Welsh cake. It didn’t leave a lasting impression, and I wouldn’t have felt I’d missed out had I never tried it. That said, the bakery’s extensive menu does make me curious to sample some of their other offerings. If I find myself at Cardiff Bakestone again, I’ll be exploring the menu further in search of a treat that might suit my palate better.

Walked 40 minutes to find this indoor market everyone making a fuss about this one in particular so had a nosey to find a very scrumptious variety of Welsh cakes at a great price I could not resist even my other half has indulged I only wish we had bought more 😳 the lady was very helpful who served us Thank you from julie and Darren from hull 😊

The bakery was ok. It didn’t wow me. Not enough jam, cream, chocolate chips in the cakes. The staff were very friendly. Especially the chap with the short hair who was rolling the cakes

My first bakestone/welsh cake was delicious. Located in the market this place is fast, easy, and a wonderful experience. I am no connoisseur, but these were a lovely morning treat with my coffee.

Amazing food, and truly amazing people. The guy making the Welsh cakes is a star, and the boy rolling them out gets his workout on his rolling pin. Welsh cakes (original) were top class, their scones,, total heaven.

Don't bother. At the end of the day, this is a tourist stall and if you like your picau/teisennau or want to try a real treat there's much better (and more appreciative) businesses to spend your money. Buying from here is like passing pennies into a miserable slot machine. I've never seen people so miserable over selling bloody cake.

Tasting welsh cakes was one of my missions when I arrived in Cardiff. I tried two flavors, namely Traditional and Jam & Cream. In the end, I found Traditional to be the best. Before I left, I bought 10 more cakes and brought them back home 😂

I'm glad I went, I'm not sure I'll ever queue for a Welsh cake again, sorry if that's sacrilege, but they are stodgy and underwhelming, but the queue went quickly and to be fair I'd probably be back regularly enough to try all their other cakes if I lived closer (and have a bigger bum).

Welsh cakes are nice, they were freshly made when I picked them up. Decided to try some of their cake slices and unfortunately these were quite disappointing. Also minimum charge on card payments is a bit off putting.

We were already queued up, but we were asked to queue up again. The reason was that there were too many of us and the clerk thought we were jumping the queue. This kind of systemic discrimination is really disappointing. Other than that, there was nothing wrong with the meal.

Delicious traditional Welsh cakes, and so many other variations, that you'll drool for something, even if the basic fruit one is not your thing. As well as the Welsh cakes, they have a large selection of other goodies, from scones to bread pudding to die for. Well worth the queuing. Prices are fair and they have multi buy deals on many of their wares. Well worth the visit.

Looks like the busiest stall in Cardiff Market. Even though, their service was of a high standard. Quite a variety of bakeries available here, including several flavours of Welsh cakes. Tried some cakes and they were delicious. Would come again when next time in Cardiff.

Delightful place with superior Welsh cakes! The service was actually great. For those who have called them rude, don’t mistake busy with no time for foolishness, with rude. Also, read the signs and decide what you want before you get up to order. We were met with smiles and great service.

You can already smell the fragrance when you are still some distance away from the store. You need to buy a certain amount of money before you can swipe your card. If you want to eat alone, it's best to bring some cash, but the most expensive sandwich is only about one pound. The store clerk was very enthusiastic. Although the queue was a bit long, he was very efficient and got in line quickly. Does it taste a bit like scone? Freshly baked, they are fluffy and delicious.

In my experience this is best ever cookies I have tasted in my life . Many people suggested to taste here and usually I don't eat much lcookies but I thought to try once . When I tasted it my mouth is asking more . My suggestion is come and visit here buy and eat at the time itself because they will make at that time and give with some light warm . Being my first visit to Wales, my friends decided to introduce me to the infamous Welsh Cakes. The Bakestones counter is extremely popular with both locals and tourists, so there was quite a lengthy queue. But it seemed to move pretty quickly, and it wasn’t long before I had my mitts on one of their freshly made (and deliciously warm) Welsh Cakes. I had the traditional fruit cake - which was super yummy and definitely worth queuing for! Lots of different flavours available, as well as vegan options too.

I visit Cardiff regularly and ALWAYS have to visit Bakestone's for their fabulous Welsh Cakes! I'm chuffed that they even have Vegan ones and they're so yummy :). The only downside is that there's always a queue!

It was a pleasure to try fresh welsh cakes made right in front of you!
