Lovely place to eat in busy New Quay,. Lovely atmosphere, nicely decorated and not rammed full early in the evening. The owners served us some great value,delicious cod and chips. Nice views too. Couldn't recommend more highly am

Didn’t know it been taken over this visit worse ever comes in a paper bag so hard to eat out of it and chips was do small so greasy and fish was cooked fresh it was so burnt couldn’t eat it and it was more batter than fish we asked no salt and vinegar and could taste salt on them waste of money feel like I been robbed for over £20 for 2 fish & chips won’t ever go back there again

Just wanted a bag of chips to share. Have to say some the best chip shop chips I've had in a very long time. And considering the location a very feasible price.

Hands down the best Fish and Chips I have had in many years. Great quality food and really friendly staff. Will definitely be returning next time we are in the area.

Lovely Fish and Chip Shop, possibly the best in Newquay? Very friendly young couple serving, nice sausages, cooked well, lovely chips and fish. IF you want a takeaway in Newquay, or even take out and eat, or eat in, this is your PLACE! Get it? hehe... ok, bad one. Choose The Captains Rendezvous, don't go elsewhere. Food is cooked right, NOT burnt here like some places I could mention and have!

Chips a bit and fish cake a bit fatty

The cod and chips came in big portions but a little bland in taste. It's in a great location and the staff were great.

We had dinner here but 10 pounds for 8 pieces of badly fried fish I think it's too much

Food is great although we did end up with lots of chips scraps rather than actual chips... Also it's better value to buy from the takeaway menu. We noticed a huge difference (up to a fiver) between fish to eat in and take out.

Just try the Haddock and chips. Scrumdiddlyumptious! The chips can be a bit hit and miss but if you get a good batch they are lovely. Just wish they double fried their chips. In terms of value though, some of the best value in New Quay Fast forward August 2024 New owners all trendy packaging. But portion size of the fish is approximating to a minnow. TINY compared to the Lime Crab. Same with the curry sauce. Scampi was 7 lumps! This is not a restaurant portion. Flashier is not necessarily better! Value for money is !

We were on holiday in Newquay last week and my partner picked up some chips to eat on the beach and we both agreed that they we some of the nicest chips we’d ever eaten as they were so crispy and delicious! A few days later we ate at The Lime Crab and although the food was ok, the chips were a massive disappointment compared to Captain’s! So our last day, we ate in at Captain’s. We’re all vegetarian, so I thought I’d try the cheese and leek rissole, having never heard of them! It was a bit expensive for what it was, but tasted good, even if it looked a bit dayglo! My son had cheesy chips and was suitably impressed! Also, Captain’s has the poshest pouches of ketchup, mayo and tartare sauce all by Stoke’s. If Captain’s did battered halloumi, we would eat there for breakfast, lunch and dinner as nowhere in Newquay does it (at the Lime Crab it’s just fried), all these places are missing a trick!

We only had the ice cream here but it was scrumptious and a great deal at 2 for £5, especially compared with the seafront place round the corner.

We have been using the Captain's Rendezvous for the past 3 three years whilst on holiday. Tonight's meal was as always, wonderful. We'll continue coming back. Thank you for providing such a great meal after a long walk

Very good fish and chips, not the best I've ever had but certainly not the worst. Good service, reasonable price. My only criticism is that they are served in a paper bag, no tray!

Brilliant fish and chips, at a reasonable price. I get other people have had differing experiences, but the fish and chips I had were some of the best I've ever had, at a very reasonable £12.50. The curry sauce was excellent too, warm thick and very tasty, well worth ordering. And as for the condiments, they were Stokes, it was near perfect, well done

Best fish and chips I have had in a long time, perfectly cooked and fresh. Friendly staff too, highly recommended - will definitely put this on my list of favourites to return to.

Hadnt been here for awhile & i think its changed hands not for the better either. They had a large order & were told it would be a while. So we sat to wait, large order completed so went to order . We were told to get in the queue mate, no thanks fir waiting or sorry forgot you were waiting. So we left , shame we have been going there for years. New owners need trsining in cuustomer service. I realky would not recommend going here.

Place must have changed hands since we last visited not for the better in afraid. Went to order told will be a little while we have a large order. Okay we will sit & wait. Large order done by this time other people had come in. Went to order stating we had waited & were told just get in the queue. No thanks for waiting or sorry we forgot you sat to wait. So no we didnt eat and will definitely wont be going there again. I think tgey need to have training in customer service. Previously we had been going there for years.

Went on a busy Saturday. Staff very friendly and very organised. However food wasn't great. Chips taste nice however were soggy.. fish batter was way to thick and mushy peas were bland. Sadly, better fish and chips on offer in New quay ...which come in a square box making them easier to eat on the bench or near the beach.

Took my beautiful sun for a chippy here earlier today and had a great time. Fantastic service and lovely staff

Not the best chippy in the area, chips was over done menu don't even offer a sausage and batter just sausage which is odd not much on the menu must have changed it since last stay as not on there anymore for a chippy by the sea. It was expensive for what it is if I was you better going to the one around the corner as a lot better

We had the best cod and chips ever here today! Really tasty fish in a fabulous crispy batter and the chips were nicely cooked too. Lovely location too. Would highly recommend.

Lovely, clean and comfortable seating inside. Very big portion of chips (ordered small) fish was nice but very greasy. Couldn't eat the bottom batter.

If you like salty food then this is your first choice , over priced chippy.

Dined in, it was empty on a coldish day (and I've no idea why people favoured the other place over the way). Glad we did, the fish and chips was delicious, the batter just right and fish tasted fresh. The sausage and chips my partner had was a plateful she couldn't finish unfortunately (small appetite) and the teas spot on. The owners/staff were friendly and explained it was more expensive to eat in but in all honesty, I wasn't bothered. Many thanks 😋👍

Me and my two teens wanted a bite to eat. We sat inside due to a rainy day. The place was quiet despite it being Easter holidays. I now know why. 3x Fish and Chips, 2 pots of Gravy, and 3 cans of pop for £50!!! I could not believe it. I checked the recipet three times I was so taken aback. A chippy lunch had just cost the same as a sit down 2-course meal at a gastro pub the night before. Was it amazing? No. Was it stand out - awe- inspiring- best chip shop experience of our lives? No. Was it a huge portion, No (despite being charged but not asked for a large portions). It really set the tone for the whole day. I understand rising costs of running hospitality businesses, I also understand the cost of produce has risen - but this, was nothing more than 'got you where they want you' opportunism. Shameful.

We have used this fish shop for over 20 years and not once been disappointed until Easter Tuesday. Decided to stop off on our way home for tea and ate in. Service was quite speedy and the cup of tea was lovely but other than that I have nothing nice to say about this restaraunt. The chips were burnt and inedible, the fish was quite chewy as if it had been there a while and the pie crust was hard. We learnt that it had changed hands which is understandable as we have never saw such rubbish being served by the previous owners. They take your money when you order which doesn’t surprise me because had they not I would have refused to pay it was that bad. I also heard other customers complaining. Avoid at all costs

Great staff and quick service even on the Easter weekend. Had a nice chat with the proprietors whilst waiting. Sat down on the quay, watching the holidaymakers enjoying the sunshine (I'm local) and the chips were spot on, nice and crispy, a good portion, and a nice price. Will definitely revisit in the future.

Extremely greasy, soggy batter and the chips weren't very good. Even the can of pop tasted old. The grease repeated on me for hours. Bloody expensive too. Don't bother...

Absolutely superb fish and chips! Ate here twice as they were that good! Under new management and even though decent before it is way better now! Chips are to die for and fish freshly cooked with really crispy light batter! Curry sauce superb too! Keep up the good work and see you in 2024!!!!

Visit once or twice every time we come to New quay, by far the best fish and chip shop there! Tried the others and not a patch on this place. Cod was so tasty, batter light and crispy ( no uncooked sludge on the inside), and chips were gorgeous, too. Spot on every time.

Take away fish and chips excellent! Best we’ve had in New Quay for 60 years and there’s been a lot of choice in that time. New owners this year - they cook and serve the food themselves and have many years of experience in the business. You won’t be disappointed!

We ordered 2 childrens sausage and chip a large cod and chip pie and chips with extra sausages for the children wow the chips and the fish the best I have had delicious and I was pleasantly surprised that the children even got a bottle of pop in with there meal well with the money I paid 5* rating of the whole family

Haven't been here in eleven years and it was as good as I remember it. We sat inside and the food was very tasty and reasonably priced. It was spotless inside. The staff were friendly and polite.

We must of had the worst fish and chips ever when we visited. the fish had been there that long that it tasted stale, the chips were yesterdays as they had that old potato taste and at 30quid for three of us absolutely shocking

I live in a seaside town and went on holiday, we went to New Quay had a good time and decided on takeaway fish and chips. We had the best fish n chips I’ve had in years, the batter was beautifully crispy the chips were real potatoes properly cooked, perfect, sheer joy sitting on the wall looking at the view eating the best fish n chips in years thank you 😁

Worst chips we have ever had if you could call them chips more like scraps....the sausage was extremely small and very poor quality. Ambiance poor, would never eat here again and would definitely not recommend this highly over price poor quality chip shop

We were in New quay and needed something for lunch so as we were walking past decided to eat in. Staff were lovely and the place was clean and tidy, but the food was average at best sadly. Really generous portions, but the chips and cod were over cooked and we ended up leaving over half of our meals. I wouldn’t choose to eat here again.

The staff were friendly but the food wasn’t great! Pie and chips, the pie was microwaved so it was rubbery instead of flaky pastry and the burger was basic. Ok place if you are starving like we were and this was the first place we came across. Nice location looking out over the sea!

We are regular customers and live in New Quay. Last night we had tw portions of cod and chips. Everything was overcooked and dry. The chips were probably the end of a cooking run as they were very small and hard and inedible. I hate complaining especially about local businesses but felt it necessary on this occasion as I think you may like a genuine feedback. We support you because you are open most of the year and not just for the tourist season so therefore look after the locals

We used to use this fish shop every time we visited Newquay ,used to be good,but last time we came they cut a large fish in half & served it as a whole one plus meagre portion of chips which were soggy this time we had lime crab f&c & they were far superior maybe pricey but you do get large portions lime crab every time for us now.

Honestly the best fish and chips I’ve had in a long time. Customer service was amazing, everyone was so kind and polite. Will definitely be back again to try more things on the menu.

The chicken burger was inedible, I had to spit it out, it didn't even taste like chicken. The chips were absolutely dreadful, no flavour, I wouldn't feed it to the seagulls. The cod was like fish fingers, the batter was appalling. The workers were very rude and when we asked for salt and vinegar on the chips (in an attempt to make them taste like anything) they forgot the vinegar. Honestly the worst meal I've ever eaten, would strongly recommend not going.

One of few Chippies with Haddock on the Menu, Always cooked Perfectely. My Favourite Chippy in West Wales, They even double wrap for me so nothing goes cold on way home :)

Absolutely lovely people to be greated by. The staff made us feel so welcome from the moment we stepped in. We went on a Sunday evening in April following the bank holiday weekend and even though it had been quite quiet during the day from the staffs accounts we were treated to beautifully cooked fish and chips which we took out to eat on the pier. It must also be said that the way the food was packaged made for easy eating but more importantly relaxed eating as the risk of seagulls coming in to attack was reduced due to the bags that thr food was in. Again it must be said that the food was beautiful - meaty fish and crispy batter with beautiful chips. This alongside the welcoming and warm staff made our Sunday evening meal a delight. Thank you again and we will be back!

Read online they offer Gluten Free fish and chips on a Friday! Great!! Off to go to sit by the sea with our supper…. Only to be told no they don’t offer it?!!! Why state you do?!!! Sooo disappointed! One very hungry and hangry lady.
