Horrible service, one of the servers was very patronizing, even though we came in first other people got their food way before us, we were stood waiting nearly 20mins , and fish not thoroughly cooked, bland

Went last night about 7.45pm, fishchips and peas, chips cold fish no taste. Used to love this chippy tastelike the chips had been cooked and just left to go cold and limp. The fish no flavour, Certainly should be freshly cooked as not a cheap meal these days, peas were nice though

Had chips, peas and curry. Was the worst chippy tea I've ever had. Chips were hard, peas were tasteless and curry sauce was awful. Not going there again

My wife surprised me with a little lunchtime treat, donner and chips. Wow, the surprise was how awful the meat was. You know when it’s first reheated and places cut the first round of meat off and bin it as it’s like leather, this place gives you that meat and charges £6 for the pleasure. It could stand up on its own, strips of leather and a total disgrace. Avoid if you don’t want to be ripped off.

Always gone here and enjoyed it but tonight was disgusted when nearly at the end of our tea and found a dead blue bottle in it. Called but manager wouldn’t even come on the phone to discuss it. Vile won’t be going back

Was concerned that cash only accepted, not washing hands after accepting cash. social distancing not adhered to.

I used to love this local chippy but the last few times have been awful. It cost us £17 suddenly for two fish and chips and a curry sauce. Absolutely ridiculously overpriced now and poisoned us. We spent half the night in the bathroom after.

Chips are always fresh and fish are a good size, I really enjoy the 1/2 rice 1/2 chips and Chinese curry sauce OR the shredded chicken in pitta. Food tastes good and when we have people round for a chippy they seem to always say it's better than their local.

If you go on a Friday night, chips are fresh and fish is a wait but well worth it. Go on a Saturday night, chips are brown from having sat in the fryer for hours and the fish batter is gloopy from having sat on the hot plate. Agree with previous reviews about the batter. You would think that this place would be frying fresh on Saturday night but that’s not the case. Most of it went in the bin. So disappointing

Much better than I could write in a review, top quality food and the two ladies working the evening of 5th September 2019 were really pleasant with great customer care skills, I felt welcome when I went there and I will be returning soon

Three ladies on duty with a loud music, the result she could not hear what I want,she angily shouted at me as she made a mistake, her attitude was appallingly unacceptable, the management ignored me but sorry to say loads of my colleagues now avoided this place

I agree with the reviews here, rude and racist staffs, it is a shame as it was a nice fish and chips but it has just ruined by their own rude staffs, will not come back and not recommend to my hospital colleagues

I visited the shop and with the loud music, staff could not hear me what I wanted to order, she angeily shouted at me when I was trying to explain, as she made a mistake she threw the chips back to the cooker and shouted at me, that was appallingly unaccepted and that lady should not stay in her job, there were 3 ladies staff there and was whispering each other and laughing at me.

Ok so firstly I've seen a couple of 1* reviews on here from supposed locals. Funny how it's the only review they've posted on TripAdvisor so worth taking with a pinch of salt (& vinegar perhaps? :) ). Captain Cod is a cracking takeaway. Chips are always fresh and they're one of the few chippies I've stumbled across in Manchester/Salford that does battered sausages (a genius invention)! Service is spot on, portion sizes more than ample and I've never had a bad takeaway here which probably explains why it can get very busy during peak times. The only downside with this place being so good is that it's seriously impacting my lame attempts to lose some weight! Can't blame them for that though, more my lack of willpower to avoid the place.:) If you're in the area you should definitely try Captain Cod, I guarantee you won't be disappointed.

Proper fish and chips, and if you are unlucky enough to be accommodated in the hospital for a short-stay, the food here is a very welcome break from the hospital grub! Always busy at lunch time, the chips have always been freshly fried when I have gone, friendly staff too!

This place used to be amazing and we've had many a meal from here. The chips used to be really nice and the portion sizes fair and as expected. Fish used to be nice and quality and generally a really good quality local chippy and our go-to. BUT THEN something has changed and its going downhill fast - very disappointed. Portion sizes are now ridiculously small - we had a large chips and there is no way that the portion we received could be deemed "normal" let alone large. The rice is the same. The fish batter quality has changed. My main gripe is the portion sizes especially when paying more for a larger portion. The quality of the chips the last two or three times hasn't been what it used to be. I don't know whether money is tight so they're reducing portion sizes and skimping on quality but you'll end up losing more customers that way which will only damage your business more. We were 3-4 times a month visitors at times but we'll probably be on the hunt for a new chippy now having stuck with it for the last few weeks and portion sizes and quality just going worse with no sign of improvement. Disappointed greatly. Very sad for what used to be an amazing go-to chippy tea chip shop.

Been here many of times even after giving birth many many moons ago in Hope hospital,was my first meal delivered by family after long labours haha, my neighbours are now loving my recommendation you need to try it, colleagues from out of our area of Salford drive down often fabulous,amazing, fresh fish, chips to die for 👍🙈.

Went in on a Friday night, queue out the door testament to how good it is! Queue moved quickly though and staff, while clearly working flat out, were still friendly and happy to see you. Ordered two large fish & chips (cod I think, although we didn't specify and they also offered haddock at the same price), curry sauce, gravy and a can of Dr Pepper. Price was very good for how much food we got, think it came to under a tenner! Got it home and everything was still hot. I always want more salt and vinegar but that's no fault of theirs! Literally delicious, huge piece of fish over clearly homemade and freshly cut chips which actually tasted like potato. Fish was cooked perfectly and batter was crispy. Curry sauce also really tasty. Overall cannot fault it at all and can't wait until my next visit!

I kept passing this place by and finally went in. Great friendly service, nice big fish, perfect peas and amazing chips! Not cheap, but proof that you do get what you pay for, well worth a visit, Next time I am in the area I won’t pass by, I will go in.

me and my family have been going to this chip shop for years and have loved going in and having a proper laugh with the staff. However I have just come from there and have never heard such abuse in all my life. I went in for lunch and ordered chips sausage curry and a scallop on the side and charged me £4. However when i got back to the office I realised I had the wrong order. I wouldn't usually go back but due to the fact I don't like chips and pudding i went back. I was very pleasant to the lady and just said it was the wrong order. I then got accused of stealing another meal. she then continued to shout and swear at me . I left the chippy shaking. I will never go to that chippy ever again after that. I literally am still in shock. such a shame but please approach with caution.

Stopped after a long day at hospital appointment. Fish were huge and tasty- just a bit over battered. Lovely chips and curry sauce -all hot and fish cooked to order. Reasonably priced

Returned to enjoy great fish, wonderful chips and a great curry sauce. My fish was cooked fresh, didn't take long, tasted excellent, not over battered. Certainly will return Capt Medley Isle of Man

Enjoyed great steak pudding, chips, peas & gravy, served in a tray. It doesn't look very bonny, but it's real nostalgia food. Add a buttered barm to make a chip butty and feel the years melt away!

We were here for the boxing and wanted something before we went and decided on these,

1 chicken kebab on nan bread & a normal donner kebab which seemed really small for £10..... too dear & you don't get enough meat for your money!!! Don't think I will be getting from Captain Cod ever again.........

Never had fish and chips as nice. Seriously can't recommend Captain Cod enough. The portion sizes are great and the flavours are tasty

Me encanta el pescado y patatas fritas, muy agradable ir a ellos si me pudieras grill, así pierda algunos peces que grom de vuelta a casa en Oz. Compruébalo, su salsa de curry es también sabroso!

No se puede superar las fichas desde aquí, y también las existencias de pollo y hongos que son tartas ganador de aparcamiento cerca del intentar evitar en las horas pico como este lugar atareado

My favorite fish and chips in Salford. I regularly visit. The fish, chips, kebabs and burgers are all excellent. Staff are always friendly. Even now I live further away still the place I go.

Captains Cod is far the best chippy in Salford. The address states Eccles but it is in Salford right next to the Hospital.Fish and Chips everytime for me.

Had to get traditional fish & chips for my partners parents visiting from America and the local chippy to me in Langworthy is terrible. A quick google search came up with Captain Cod about a mile away.Food was hot, freshly cooked, and tasted great. The fish was moist and the batter crisp and not too heavy. Price was also good. Will be going here again when I have a craving for a chippy tea

Best fish and chips I have ever had, fresh and tasty cod. Even the small portions are huge. The curry sauce is very tasty.

Staff are a bit rough but friendly enough. I bought fish chips & peas. Peas were the only thing that tasted half normal, chips were brown and hard ( last nights for sure) fish didn't fare much better. I would only ever use again as a last resort. Sorry if this is harsh but it's the truth.

Fish tastes fresh, but they don't add enough salt to either fish or chips. You'd better buy their gravy with fish & chips.Nothing's pricey. Dissappointingly, they only accept payment by cash.

Nice fish and chips. Hard to park. But it is sooo totally worth it to have my school bully serve me food.

Love Captain Cod, the best chippy around. very nice ,very tastey, and quite a lot of choice on the menu.
