Lovely staff, nice atmosphere (although we only went in to collect our order) but the chips were awful, we couldn’t eat them and ended up throwing them in the bin. Really disappointing!

Came in 2 days ago for lunch with my small kiddos. I’ve got to say I had the best fish and chips I’ve ever had, the kids (who are a bit finicky with food) ate the lot, so a very happy mum I was. Big thanks to the kitchen team and to Steph for her great service, she was fab. Lovely visit all round. Back soon.😊😊

Wow Such a nice cosy plaice to eat ( don't think they serve plaice, but couldn't resist) We arrived about 6ish, were imediatly seated and provided menus. We wore given just the right lf time to make our minds up, befire being asked if we were ready to order, Ive been caught out before so I ordered a medium cod fish special, and I was correct the medium was more than enough, when it arrived it looked so appetizing, I didn't know where to start the fish tasted so fresh and the chips looked and tasted so nice, the batter on the fish was very crisp and light. It must be goodcas the place seemed full of local people Im sure it must be rammedbin the high season Will call again next time im in the area

Walked in off the street, warm welcome and food served as quickly as it takes to cook as they weren't busy. Portions just right.

Good fish and chips. Pretty standard but excellent compared to recent eat outs, and definitely a contenter for the best fish and chips, as in the last one you ate was the best. Not greasy, full of flavour, decent chips and decent mushy peas. Ate in. Had two fish and chips for adults, a kids burger (lacked flavour, but why have a burger at a fish shop?!) and a kids fish and chips (fish is big). Would recommend, would go back.

I had vegan sausage, chips and mushy peas. All selected from the vegan menu. Lots of other options available. Everything was delicious. I deducted a point because the restaurant was a little bit cold. Staff were friendly and attentive. Edit: We recently ordered take out which was a bargain with the take away special price. Absolutely delicious battered sausage and chips. Clearly marked vegan items which is helpful if you can't have dairy. I had vegan sausage, my partner had meat. Both hot and delicious with chips and curry sauce.

The staff are always so lovely in here. Just stopped in for wine today but usually eat. The food's great. Generally a warm feeling in the place. Fantastic service. They come back to check on you, ensure all's good. Would strongly recommend.

Bought a small fish and chips here to takeaway. They have online deals, so ordered in advance on the website for £5.50. Have to say it was great value. There was easily enough to fill me up. Batter was nice and crispy, chips were very good. Will be visiting again next time I’m in Pickering.

We stayed just outside Pickering for the weekend and had a lovely takeaway meal from here. Top quality food. Highly recommended. Very friendly staff and nice to see it was full of diners.

Lovely meal, they forgot the included bread and butter, but quickly brought it up, so the service was good. TBH very satisfying and generous portions. PERFECT ❤️❤️❤️

Absolute rubbish went in for tea.upstairs not open,expected us to sit downstairs on a table with a dog on the next table.I dont want my food with a dog sat there.I thought dogs were not allowed were food is being served.Dont go there.its horrible,staff are young and clueless

We were over 2 hours late arriving for our table (a party of 6), but still warmly welcomed by the waitresses. Very tasty meals, especially the seafood platter.

Very busy ( it was the steam gala at the NYMR). We were advised there was a wait of about 20/25 minutes for food. It was worth the wait, generous portions and a good pot of tea for two. Pleasant staff would go back to eat there again .

Was tip top, great food and service. Had fish and chips with peas, partner had footlong and chips with gravy, both excellent. Staff on the ball and well worth the money. Would highly recommend and would go back, if inky to try a desert.

Great place and my goodness was it busy, take away and eat in, people phoning their orders in. We had a great meal, nicely presented, served piping hot, one with the sausages and one with a medium fish and chips. The thing that struck us both is how lovely the young front of house team were. All so friendly and naturally helpful, not always the case with a young crowd, but that team was spot on. Well done everyone. PS thanks for making a fuss of Dave, my black Labrador. We got him a grilled fish to take away, which he thoroughly enjoyed. We will be back. We came back in September and it was exactly the same. Nicely paced, super friendly young team, great food, they cared about my dog. Great place 1000 stars for service. Great value for money too.

I couldn’t fault the Young staff at this take away but the meal of fish and chips was definitely not up to par with the other reviews on here. The fish was swimming in fat and the chips were not much better either. The only reason why I went there as because it was the only place that I could find open at the time

Tasty place to eat. Nice friendly atmosphere and very deceiving from the outside as they have tables upstairs. Didn't need to pre book and a reasonable price for food etc. Highly recommend. My partner had a decent looking pie and I a slab of meat 👍 Had to wait a bit for our food as they only had 1 chef on who also had to cater for take out food as well. Big thumbs up for coping with the masses

Googled this place as our usual one out of Whitby does pizza only on a Monday. We were going through Pickering anyway so stopped. Got a take out my grandaughter and i shared fish and chips. The fish was beautiful cooked to perfection for me and the chips were lovely. Service great, friendly and accommodating, my GD had a hot choc and i asked for a little cold milk to make it a little cooler for her and it was no trouble at all. Thank you very much and hopefully one day i would love to visit and eat inside. 🙂

Good grub. Batter on the fish really was quality stuff. Rate the chips and mushy peas pretty highly as well. Sausage was what you would expect from a chippy. Very slow service but obviously came at an unfortunate time. The staff were really caring and even gave us a discount for the wait.

Staff were all so young, but impeccably efficient and friendly. Whitby Crab Salad was just wonderful, and the small fish and chips was devoured!

Excellent food, freshly cooked, hot and tasty. Brilliant service from the warm welcome when you arrive, taking orders and serving the food and drinks. Good value, the fish pie was overflowing with freshly cooked fish and new potatoes, the fish was coated with a light batter and accompanied by plenty of chips and peas. Concerned that when asked about gluten free fish and chips was told that it is cooked in the same oil as non-gluten free. As the reason for needing gluten-free is a severe wheat allergy this is not appropriate for our needs. Please could you guarantee that gluten -free food served is safe for those with wheat allergy. I suspect some people didn't ask the detailed questions.However food allergies need to be taken very seriously.

Apparently there is another fish and chip shop just outside town centre,we didn't go there,we came here last night. Service 10/10 Food quality 10/10 Value for money10/10 Presentation 10/10 The spicy curry sauce is superb,and they do scraps if you ask for them. 100%Genuine,highly recommended this place..

This was my 1st visit to this Fish & Chips Shop which doubles up as a restaurant & take away .There's around 9 tables available on ground level with more seating upstairs, I found the young staff on duty to be very welcoming, pleasant & helpful as I decided to sit inside with a table for 2.The menu has a good variety choice of mains including starters & deserts with hot/cold & alcohol drink options. My food order was a small cod & chips with mushy peas side ,bread & butter and tartare sauce which didn't take too long to arrive,there was nice size cod with good portion of pipping hot chips ! I now can fully understand & appreciate why its popular with the locals .I really enjoyed the meal & would definitely recommend a visit ,Cash or card payments are accepted.

Came here for the first time last night 12/7/23 really friendly environment and staff were brilliant got the medium fish and chips which was massive definitely worth the money and the fist was fried to perfection highly recommend if your in the area and fancy fish and chips

One of the best places for fish and chips, Pros: Fish is delicious, staff friendly. Cons: having to watch the fryer give a colleague the finger (not all audiences find it funny. 09/07/2023, so I just called again on the way home from Whitby. Many thanks to the young lady who took my order after 6 pm. I really appreciated it.

My friend and I ordered fish and chips, and just fries for me. We sat at the table, and the waitress demanded an additional payment for eating at the table. Then another waitress brought two servings of fish and chips. After a while, a different waitress informed me that I had to pay extra for the fish. Shortly after, the earlier waitress returned and instructed me to make an additional payment, leaving the bill. It turned out that I hadn't paid for the fish previously, but ended up paying for the entire meal again, this time including the fish and chips. I honestly advise against it. There was zero communication among the staff and double the cost for the food. The fish was very, and I mean very greasy, and that's probably why we got caught, I suspect, because we were speaking in Polish.

Wow got to be the best fish n chips I've had for ages. I ordered small cod and could not manage to eat it all. Poor hubby thought he was hungry so ordered the medium, found he could only manage half of it. Wonderful service from group of young staff. Please co.e to Kent and show them how to cook fish.

Absolutely amazing chip shop. Quality of fish was best I've had ever! Shocked how good value for money you can get here. Highly recommend. We got two small fish and chips and the portion was just perfect. Fish batter was crispy. Barely any oil in the carton. Honestly better than the sea front shops at Scarborough. Will definitely be returning.

The fish is lovely but please please cook your chips for longer they are nearly always undercooked.

I was put off fish & chips last year due to another shop in town so I was sceptical but decided to give capplemans a try. This shop has restored my taste for fish n chips. All of it was delicious from the chips to the fish. Perfectly cooked & well priced. Quality fast service aswell even though it was rush hour & clearly busy. Im more than impressed & will be going hear from now on.

Poor service, not the fault of the cheap labour teenage staff they are employing (i feel a bit sorry for them) but the managemant are to blame. If i owned this establishment i would be changing my manager stright away as hiding in the kitchen is not what they should be doing with such a fallout front of house . We booked our slot online and it was still 40mins late, I get they are busy but stop been greedy and don't accept online orders. Once I was handed the order there was no apology about the delays not even an offer of a free item or offer of discount again down to greed of the managemant. They also advised on posters 'beat the ques' order online for this they need reporting for incorrectly advertising this service which is against the consumer regulations act. On a positive the food was good 👍 I take from this vist 1, Don't expect customer service 2. Don't expect a manger who cares 3. OK food

Excellent fish & chips with friendly, efficient service.

Food is pretty amazing! It's not the cheapest at £15 for a medium haddock, medium chips, curry sauce, bread and butter then it's pretty decent! The battery is lovely and crispy and light and the fish is fried skinless so you can enjoy all the batter! Food is served quickly and even though the place is super busy you don't have to wait long!

Visited today as we do on a fairly regular basis because we like to sit in and have fish & chips, will never go back ever!! Filthy tables, filthy floors, THE MOST EXPENSIVE FISH & CHIPS I HAVE EVER PAID FOR! Waited ages for the meal to arrive and the place was not very busy. Fish, chips, garden peas, J20 & a coffee £25.60 😳 absolutely ridiculous! That was a meal for one! The fish had a terrible taste and was horrible and dry, over cooked batter / dark brown. The 1⭐️ is for the member of staff that served me, she was very polite, helpful and a credit to the business. My advice is don’t waste your money.

Was a quiet Saturday when we came in from the cold with our dog. No problem to get a table and waitress thoughtfully asked if dog needed a bowl of water whilst we were looking at menu. Chose the medium fish n chips with peas. Glad we didn’t try the large as the portions were massive. Just a short wait ten minutes for freshly cooked fish, crispy batter was lovely and tartar sauce superb. Nice waiting staff. £50 for three people including two hot drinks.

Read reviews for many chippys in the area before settling on Capplemans and CRIKEY BOBS it's good! We had takeaway but the restaurant looked very clean. The young lady who served us was lovely. The large lightly battered fish were perfection! Chips just as they should be, not a drop of grease, crispy on the outside and fluffy in the middle. Other people have mentioned the mushy peas and they're not wrong. They're very comforting, creamy and special in their own way. If I lived locally I'd be 100 stone by the end of the year!

A very clean and tidy restaurant and although we didn't eat it it looked very good. The service was excellent and the fish and chips were wonderful. Would definitely return.

We stayed at the Rockland Lodges, called into Pickering saw this place so decided to have a meal here. We got the medium fish & chips & a portion of battered onion rings. The meal was delicious, but far to much for us. 1 of the best we have ever had. We called in 2 days later, but had the small fish & chips & a portion of onion rings, It still was so filling & delicious. We can highly recommend this place. You will not be disappointed. Staff were young girls, very pleasant & efficient. Please do not take any notice of David Scott's review. No way would the staff be rude, also his £40/£50 per person is a complete lie. fish & chips with a side choice was £10 small, £12 medium & £14 large per person. He must have been in another restaurant, because it couldn't be this one.
