Called in while visiting pickering . dined in .very friendly staff .wasn't to busy when we visited .both drinks & food didn't take long to arrive .this is my 2nd visit but not my last .if you want good fish & chips you won't go far wrong visiting Capplemans

I really can't fault this place at all, we visit at least twice a month, staff are friendly and the food is consistently good

The best ever experience, beautiful atmosphere, pretty interior, ordered fish and chips special, mushy peas fresh and homemade. Service amazing and warm. Unfortunately we only took pictures of empty plates which says it all....

Very busy but quickly sorted Very helpful staff and reasonably priced.

Gluten free fish and chips were lovely, as was the fish chowder which was chock full of lovely chunky fish and prawns with warm sourdough bread. Friendly helpful staff . Avoid sitting at the front downstairs as the automatic doors are constantly opening for take-away customers.

Lovely fish and chips, had a takeaway and ate in a few days later. Online ordering was efficient and was ready a few minutes after arrival. When we ate in I chose chicken and mushroom pie> It was a proper homemade pie, absoloutly full of meat. The staff are lovely checked we were happy and if we needed anything more.

Delicious fish chips and spicy curry sauce. Good quality fish and delicious crispy batter. Highly recommend. Staff are also lovely and friendly. We will definitely be back.

We’ve been here before but I’ve never reviewed it - the food is outstanding and the staff are just so efficient and friendly. It can be difficult to find good fish and chips now but these really are brilliant. Please try them for yourselves and I’m confident you will not be disappointed. Thank you Copplemans

My husband and I were on holiday in Pickering this week and we have already visited couple morns fish and chip shop twice. The service is excellent especially from Claire and very attentive to Rex the dog. Gave him water.We will definitely go back.Gorgeous food very tasty Thank you to all the staff. We call at Pickering on our way home from Scarborough but have never called in here . We decided to give it a try and we weren’t disappointed. We were greeted by a lovely lady called Louise who explained that she had only been there a few days . She was very polite and attentive. My partner had a medium cod with chips , peas and bread and butter , I had two homemade fish cakes , chips and peas all washed down with a pot of tea . Would highly recommend this place .

Wonderful golden, crispy chips! Their fish is also excellent (and large!). Today I tried the panko king prawns and was not disappointed. The takeaway food is all carefully packaged and there is a nice area to sit and wait. Best fish and chips ever!

Worth waiting for!!! Gotta be the best in Pickering. Lovely cod and a huge portion of chips, plenty for 2. You might wait for a takeaway but I think that’s always a good sign. There were locals ordering online and collecting. Plenty of seating too.

Great staff and great service, can't complain. Fish and chips average. Was hoping for a proper fishcake or pattie, but these places keep cheaping out on frozen crap, which is a shame, hard to find nowadays

Takeaway for 4 people at lunchtime, everything was faultless - fish, fishcakes, spam fritter, chips, scraps and curry sauce - delicious! I am now really glad the fish & chip shop we’ve used before when holidaying here was closed and we’ll definitely use Capplemans again next time.

Had a take away from here, large cod, small chips and mushy peas. Outstanding batter and chips cooked to perfection, almost makes me want to move up here just for them.

Fantastic fish and chips and very friendly service. We were originally planning to get fish and chips in Whitby but decided to wait for our return to Pickering - a very good decision!

Food was lovely, staff was really helpful my wife is vegetarian and the chips were cooked in vegetable oil and she had veggie curry. I however paid the extra pound for the food long sausage with my chips and wasn't disappointed. All the staff we spoke to were smiling and polite. Will definitely eat here again.

As always, fast service, freshly cooked (and good) food - at a really good price. The orders for fish and chip meals (carry out's they call them up here) we're doing a roaring trade. Ham, eggs and chips were too much for me, Sam had the steak & ale pie (which strangely had carrots in it?) and a Holy Grail for him and a pot of tea for moi - no complaints.

We ordered cod bites and chips and can honestly say they were so tasty.. I hate round cod bites but these were finger shape. ideal for dipping into curry sauce.... Highly recommend this place but think it's already got a great reputation.... Pauline and David

The best fish and chips i have had for years. Service was exceptional. One of us had garlic mushrooms and said they was very good. We had small cod and it was ample for hot . Very tasty and freshly cooked for us. Chips were good too. I was going to get a dessert but too full after the fish.

Great little restaurant and takeaway. Plenty of seating, great service, quick food service. Food was fantastic and good sized portions.

My wife and I visited today, 2nd Sept 2024. The service was excellent - quick, polite, helpful - we ordered drinks and then our meal, both came in good time and the meals were obviously freshly cooked and hot. My wife had a chocolate milkshake, I had a lovely ice-cold beer. My wife had a medium scampi meal which came with a choice of a side and ordered a slice of bread too. I had the medium haddock meal which also came with a side. We both had mushy peas as a side and we decided to add gravy too, and I added onion rings. We really enjoyed the meal and I followed up with a dessert - chocolate bread and butter pudding with vanilla Ice cream - the only one criticism I would say is the dessert was very good but was a bit on the small side for the price, but to sit in and eat in a lovely environment was well worth the money we paid. I highly recommend Capplemans for the quality of the food, the atmosphere and the staff's attention to detail. DOG FRIENDLY although we didn't have a dog. 😁

The fish and chips are probably the best I have had. We took our family with four children seven and under, and the whole experience was excellent. We stopped off on return from Flamingo Land and this was a top choice compared to the option of eating at Flamingo Land. Food was top class. Medium Fish and Chips and Curry Sauce (spice variant) were excellent. My son has a medical condition and they could not have been kinder and more accommodating. Value. The output is excellent food and the food is very good value. If you want a super cheap experience then this probably isn't it, but we don't do it often so a group of at value treat. All round probably the best fish and chip shop / restaurant I have been to.

Excellent chippy tea. Only had the small fish & chips but well stuffed afterwards. If you are really hungry go for the large.

Visited Saturday lunchtime and I have to say everything was excellent. We had the small haddock and chips special with mushy peas and an extra side of curry sauce. This also comes with a slice of bread and butter. The meal was excellent. The fish was lovely and flaky with no skin and crispy batter. Chips and mushy peas were lovely as was the curry sauce. Service was excellent and we received our meal very quickly. Will definitely recommend and return.

Haddock & Chips on a very hot day. There's parking very nearby in the Ropery car park. Small Haddock & Chips is actually a very good size and comes with Beans or Peas. Definitely weren't disappointed. If there's a queue out the door, chances are they are all for takeaways, so just walk straight in and find a member of staff. If downstairs seating looks full, there are also 2 seating areas upstairs.

Only one in Pickering that you can have sit in service, other two shops are take aways. Staff are efficient and friendly,fish and chips was one of the best we have eaten. Cost of fish tea per head was around £12.

Delicious fish n chips, they were still nice a day after getting them so be even nicer straight away! The mushy peas were the best I've ever had.

Great quality- we had a takeaway for family holiday (7 adults and 4 kids), all the food was delicious. Ordered online and picked up- everything great. The staff on front of house were also fantastic- friendly, helpful and example of how to do customer service

Overcharged our debit card and took £50 exactly when our meal totaled roughly £30ish. Disappointing and immoral. Would not recommend.

They cater for gluten free and food was delicious. Staff were excellent and couldn't do enough for us.

What a great place this is very clean and relaxing the staff were fabulous were very welcoming and polite the young women who served my wife came outside with water for the dogs as we waited on our order and the fish and chips were one of if not the best i have had so if you go here you will not be disappointed also big portions highly recommend

Portions are a good size. Large is capable for 2 people(chips). Takeaway food has always been hot when I collect it. Very tasty too.

Large group of 12 of us. Very recommended. Lots on the plate. Only issue a few of chips too small and crispy.

Staying around the corner so decided to have fish and chips for our tea walked down and ordered and waited about 10 minutes ordered 2 large fish and medium chips gravy and curry sauce and 2 mushy peas £30 was fabulous but far too big

We were walking through Pickering and decided to eat there. We chanced upon Capplemans and asked if we could bring our dog in. They gave us a table where our dog could lay down undisturbed. My husband ordered the medium cod and I ordered a cheese omelette with a side salad. Both meals were absolutely delicious; my omelette was so light and fluffy it melted in your mouth. My husband said his cod was really fresh and cooked to perfection. Well done to the chef and all the staff.

This is an unassuming cafe/take away but scores highly on the quality of their food. Pleasant staff in basic surroundings but I can’t stress just how lovely the food was.

Went as family for fish and chips - amazing quality all at a reasonable price. Was camping at local site and was chucking it down but the waitress didnt rush us which we appreciated. Service really friendly food came promptly. Would highly recommend

Very friendly staff seated us ,I asked about items on menu were very helpful. I had lunch of salmon new potatoes salad malty bread was excellent . my partner had small fish chips white bread bigger meal than expected lovely light batter crispy chips. We came back at 6pm after ride on steam trains ,I ordered starter sea food platter was beautiful mackerel crab salmon prawns salad. My partner had huge dish Rhubarb crumble+ custard was yummy. We will be back very clean toilet too thankyou.

We took our granddaughter here for a “Chippie Tea” yesterday which was fantastic! We sat upstairs as downstairs was packed, we were initially on our own but other tables soon joined us. I had medium Haddock & Chips, my husband medium Cod & Chips. Lilly had a mini fish & chips. All the food came quickly and was piping hot & delicious. The portions are generous & there is a good choice of sides & drinks, the child’s menu has excellent choices too. The waiting staff are young but super helpful & friendly. We all thoroughly enjoyed ourselves & will be back.

Visited with my family for lunch and received excellent service. Normally I have to say I can’t have dairy, but the waitress asked as she handed us the menus. She proceeded to the kitchen to ask what was available to me and returned straight away with the answer. Didn’t wait long for the food to arrive and it was delicious, best we’ve had in a long time.

We called in based on another recommendation to try the vegan options available and we weren't disappointed! Portion sizes are very generous, the food was extremely tasty and the prices are very reasonable for what you get. It's a good thing we're almost an hour away otherwise we'd be here all the time!

Just had 2 large haddock’s chips mushy peas spicy curry and a small sausage for wilma our poodle . The fish was very disappointing I don’t think it had been freshly fried off soggy and tasteless 🥲 small sausage was overcoikedcand again probably been stood a while and very small was laughable . Chips was nice Curry sauce nice as was peas and also tartar sauce as was the girl who served us . I googled to look at reviews as I only enjoy fish freshly cooked off this was not and we was disappointed and defiantly wouldn’t return sorry guess you only learn when you try … £28 + for our order …

Absolutely fabulous Fish and Chips. My wife had gluten free Cod and chips. To get GF right is a rarity but it was fantastic.Honestly, staff were very friendly and polite, the wait wasn't long at all. Popped in for fish and chips as in the area working. Coming from Whitby I know about fish and chips lol its in my DNA. The chips were the best I've had. Like they were triple cooked . Fish cooked beautiful as well. Nice and crispy. Best thing though was the service. A blond girl 👱‍♀️ didn't catch her name but she was awesome and friendly and chatty . Made for a great day . And I hope you have a great holiday in Greece . Will be back next week as I have a weeks work in pickering

What can I say..wow..lovely friendly staff..not mad chippy fan if honest but pickering pubs poor choice to get food if any cooking..and then wee man in pub told us try here...sooooo glad we did..we had spam fritter ,chips -I had mushy peas other half had spicy curry sauce.. all cooked fresh NOT greasy..so tasty..and we had a pint and a gt with it.dog friendly...couldnt reccomend highly enough...

Had to go to Pickering, so we thought we would have our tea wyle we were there, very nice fish and chips and peas, 🫛 I forgot scraps its a Yorkshire thing, well looked after didn't have to wait too long,even though there was a lot of takeaways going out we had haddock which we try to get at most fish restaurants.

Came in 2 days ago for lunch with my small kiddos. I’ve got to say I had the best fish and chips I’ve ever had, the kids (who are a bit finicky with food) ate the lot, so a very happy mum I was. Big thanks to the kitchen team and to Steph for her great service, she was fab. Lovely visit all round. Back soon.😊😊

Wow Such a nice cosy plaice to eat ( don't think they serve plaice, but couldn't resist) We arrived about 6ish, were imediatly seated and provided menus. We wore given just the right lf time to make our minds up, befire being asked if we were ready to order, Ive been caught out before so I ordered a medium cod fish special, and I was correct the medium was more than enough, when it arrived it looked so appetizing, I didn't know where to start the fish tasted so fresh and the chips looked and tasted so nice, the batter on the fish was very crisp and light. It must be goodcas the place seemed full of local people Im sure it must be rammedbin the high season Will call again next time im in the area

Good fish and chips. Pretty standard but excellent compared to recent eat outs, and definitely a contenter for the best fish and chips, as in the last one you ate was the best. Not greasy, full of flavour, decent chips and decent mushy peas. Ate in. Had two fish and chips for adults, a kids burger (lacked flavour, but why have a burger at a fish shop?!) and a kids fish and chips (fish is big). Would recommend, would go back.

I had vegan sausage, chips and mushy peas. All selected from the vegan menu. Lots of other options available. Everything was delicious. I deducted a point because the restaurant was a little bit cold. Staff were friendly and attentive. Edit: We recently ordered take out which was a bargain with the take away special price. Absolutely delicious battered sausage and chips. Clearly marked vegan items which is helpful if you can't have dairy. I had vegan sausage, my partner had meat. Both hot and delicious with chips and curry sauce.
