Been coming to The Canton for almost 40 years both to sit in and for takeaway. Despite moving out of the Johnstone area I still frequently travel in order to get a takeaway from here as it’s the bet local Chinese restaurant around by a mile.

Best Chinese Restaurant in Renfrewshire.

Just been to canton and can’t believe the difference in the prices,£3.20 for a can of juice,meal was nice but very small portions noticed a big difference since the last time a was in really think they are overpriced.

Been going here since I was a young boy so about 40 years this is by far the best Chinese I have and will ever have I can honestly say I have not had a bad meal from here I love it The only thing is it's pricey but WORTH it

Nice food tasty enough , resturant was dead only myself and hubby in the sit in . Portion size was awful i normally never manage to eat a full dinner but I did at this resturant very small portions of everthing defo not worth the money , dont mind paying a bit more if its nice food good size portions etc , not even a complimentry prawn crackers to the table when you arrive .I am not suprised it was empty and would not return

Chicken noodle soup that never had one bit of chicken in it !!!!! Never again terrible absolutely terrible soup.

Beef curry really good butt there just putt it up to £10.20 from £8.20 not that good blamed the price of beef take your masks off sorry not good enough at that price goodbye x

Ordered from here on Sunday, it's now Tuesday night going into Wednesday. I'm only just able to review because all five of us who ate from here on Sunday have come down with severe food poisoning in quick succession including my 2 year old. Our decent sized order came in about 5-10 minutes so I suspect reheated rice or something along those lines. Their website did say something about staff shortages but that's no excuse for poor food hygiene.

Be aware of the prices in this restaurant. We were charged an extra £3.50 for a small teacup full of fried rice. The prices shown in the menu did not state that the rice would be extra. Apparently these prices are on the back page. The owner wasn't interested until I said I would write a review on Facebook. To be fair after a heated discussion he agreed not to charge us for the 2 very small portions of rice and also my husband's meal which wasn't nice. First and last time going to this restaurant.

Food was nice however could have been presented better. The drinks order was completely wrong which is fine but we were made to feel it was our fault. We had no privacy as the lady who was serving was just standing staring at us And as soon as we put our cutlery down to take a drink she was over to take our plates away, even though we hadn't finished our meal.

I’m usually not the type to take time out my day to write negative reviews but i’m that appalled with what i have paid for. The total order was £16 for a chicken chow mein , salt and chilli chips and a portion of curry sauce which already gave me red flags but when i went to plate my meal & found my chips to be wet & soggy and completely devoid of any flavour and the CHICKEN chow mein that costs around £8, to have more mushroom than chicken and even at that the chicken pieces were so minuscule that i hardly noticed them. Disgraceful. I have had better and expect better from this restaurant.

Order came out wrong twice charged us for one of the mains which was returned untouched. £155 for our order Wont be returning.

Really disappointed. The Canton was always a favourite of ours. This time we did an online order to be collected at 1830. Son went to collect and there were people who’d been waiting over an hour for their orders. Restaurant was busy and takeaway was too. When he eventually got our order, 45 minutes later, and brought it home, my meal had to go in the microwave and the salt on two of the meals completely spoiled them. Both meals went in the bin. Put us right off.

Excellent food and helpful friendly staff . Brilliant service and very good value

Lovely meal. Roasting kung po chicken was delicious, as was the prawn toast, fried rice and salt pepper chips (even if a little too much cinnamon) however the chicken satay starter was disappointing. I wouldn’t really call it satay as it doesn’t look or really taste peanutty. All came roasting hot so overall very impressed.

Lovely food, friendly staff, pleasant surroundings. Only complaint was the plate wasn't heated and my food went really cold very quickly. Heat your plates and it would have been perfect❤

It is so cramped and the place is always closed for whatever reason. Useless place I will never recommend

I popped into the Carton Restaurant by chance for a quick dinner with my wife. What a find... A wee hidden gem 💎 situated at the top of the Thornbrae in Johnstone. The food, the staff and service was absolutely top notch 👍👌 I would thoroughly recommend this Chinese restaurant. They have a great selection of dishes and have an early evening specials menu too... So don't miss out! I will definitely be back 😉

Aye really enjoyed my meal chicken lovely and main was beautiful, my husband got chicken in gravy and said it was well over cooked and the portions size was a tad small for my liking but overall good experience

Johnstone is home to one of the best Chinese restaurants in the Greater Glasgow area. The food is of an entirely different standard to the numerous other Chinese restaurants I've been to, because you can tell that the food is fresh and not mass produced rubbish. All dietary requirements and allergies are catered for. This is a review for take away only, once I've had a chance to dine in at Canton I will amend accordingly.

A local, cozy restaurant with a very pleasant atmosphere. The food choice is good and invariably tasty with a very decent selection of red wine. I'll be back for sure!

We always have take away from here and this was the first time we had sit in. The food was absolutely delicious and great portions. Literally cannot wait to go back.

Went to Canton for some dinner knowing they would be busy two nights before Christmas. They found us a table. We had the two course Christmas Special ( we were too full up to have the third course) Thai Samosas and Chicken and sweet corn soup to start then Cantonese sweet and sour chicken along with Chicken Satay. Everything was hot, tasty and nicely presented. Our waiter Yen was friendly, chatty and extremely polite. The restaurant itself is very nicely decorated so all in all five stars… we will be back!

Honestly the best Chinese ever! The food is so fresh and the service is amazing. The East night on a Wednesday is absolutely unreal and the menu has so many different options. I will 100% be back

Waited over 30 minutes for soup starter got wrong soup, waited another 30 minutes for dinner my husbands dinner served on cold plate making the dinner go cold very quickly, my dinner the chicken was tough and dry and no bean sprouts. The maitre was quite happy to attend to the take away service at the expense of ignoring the dinners and letting us wait

Go to the Canton fairly regularly. Food never disappoints and cost reasonable. The staff are always friendly and seating area spacious. Shame not open on a Wednesday but as family run business glad they take the night off at least once a week.

Only local to the area just over a year trying carry out shops and restraunts . I never booked tried my luck and my luck payed off . Restraunt its self clean and fresh looking comfortable seating . Staff very friendly and pleasant. Now the food wow presentation taste i went for a pre theatre 3 course spring rolls ' chicken satay (best iv had ) with fried rice and salt and chilly chips none of them french fry things proper chips ( amazing ) .Then banana fritter with ice cream and syrup with a touch of merange in the ice cream . You may think im exadurating but this is by far the best food iv had in a restraunt 100 % family run business . Thanks to the young waitresses too funny and caring looked like they liked there jobs kerp up the good work . I hope the manager passes this to them too and all staff from kitchen to front desk . Team effort for a success not one person . Thankyou see you soon

Food is absolutely phenomenal ..great portions and brilliant service… very happy customer

Really disappointing chinese. Salt and chilli chips were soggy, satay chicken was dark, no texture and not what you would expect. Chow mein noodles were soggy and oily.

I don't think my big kids have ever sat in for a Chinese so I wanted to sort that out! Our food was lovely, service was too, looked after us very well. We are from the pre-theatre menu which was ideal and it is on at good times all week. Thoroughly enjoyed it!

Birthday treat,the sweet corn soup was delicious, veggie chow mein was bland and no taste and hot Carmel brownie was stale and very disappointing. We advised staff of lack of flavour of main dish and stale Brownie. The staff member smiled and charged us the extra as indicated on menu Avoid brownie and chow mein. Not value for money

Fast, reliable and delicious but a star off for the ridiculous prices they now charge. Still my favourite takeaway, just order less often now due to the cost.

Got a takeaway for the first time from this restaurant and the chicken curry and beef curry was absolutely delicious we usually use another takeaway in Johnstone for years but decided to give The Canton a try so glad we did will definitely be back

The Canton Restaurant and Takeaway have a fantastic atmosphere the Staff are attentive and are on hand if you require any further assistance the food is tasty and fast I honestly can't recommend the Canton in Johnstone highly enough it's well run clean and has an amazing atmosphere

Sorry to say just collected our order today. I ordered a sweet and sour chicken. The sauce instead of being a sauce was a brown jelly and was disgusting. I am so disappointed. Ruined the meal completely. You need to up your game before I will return. Such a shame

Has been a favourite for nearly 20 years, now the kids are enjoying it. Foods always been great quality and fairly priced.

The food was a disappointment to say the least 2 millimetre bits of ham and I mean 2 pieces that was it in spring rolls the beef curry has sent my other half puking down the loo the 2 star was for the delivery driver never again will I order out this place again such a shame

Amazing only flaw would be delivery of salt and chilli chips they are soggy , but if they were coated in batter this would solve that problem

Absolutely beautiful!! Food was delivered very quickly even though they have just opened after lockdown. Person who took the order and delivery driver were so pleasant. The food was out of this world. Beef was high quality as always. Best takeaway ever. Thank you!

A family of 9, aged from 5 to 60+, first time visit. Wonderful staff, attentive, but not in the way. Very pleasant and helpful. Lovely ambience, with lots of good food choices, everyone thoroughly enjoyed the meals. Will definitely return to the restaurant again...😁

My husband and I went for lunch. It was really salty for both of us. We then both ended up with upset stomachs although we'd eaten different things. Restaurant seemed clean but won't be back I'm afraid.

Been here lot in past.went last night ordered chicken sweet corn soup tasted like water partner had chicken noodle she said hers was tasteless too invisible chicken in soup. Ordered Singapore chow mein never been served a dish like that was more like a bunch of soggy wet noodles that glistened with grease and had 2 small pieces pork and 2 small pieces of chicken on top and couple peppers glad I asked for king prawn in it got 2. Partner ordered chicken fried rice and was pure greasy she said. Ps asked for mine be extra spicy I couldn’t even taste any spice. Had more spice in a pot noodle. There’s something amiss with this place as we have enjoyed it in past. We didn’t want to complain as we were in hurry and shouldn’t serve food like that in first place. We certainly won’t be back.

Popped in for a quick Chinese and was not disappointed. The chicken chow mien in particular was delicious. Service was fantastic. Be warned if you are from south of the border that the portion sizes are huge compared to London. Excuse the chips they were down to my daughter

Had a beef curry and salt n chilli chicken last weekend. Absolutely delicious. Restaurant style food. Way above take away standard!!

Yesterday myself and a couple of friends visited this restaurant as a last minute stop and what a surprise it was! The staff were friendly and attentive. It's a fairly strange laid out affair but cosy at the same time. The starters took a bit of time to come but when they came they were delicious so was the mains and the dessert, although they mucked up my order but was quickly rectified. All in all worth a visit and not too pricy!

We decided to try a local restaurant and went to the Canton with my husband and my 3yo boy. We loved the food, love the fact that they have kids menu. My son loved the chicken bites and fried rice. Our food also was delicious, service was quick and so friendly, we had an amazing Sunday dinner. We got there at 5:45pm and it was not busy but when we left around 7pm we could notice its a popular restaurant. Will definitely come back!

Unexpected visit here and I was not dissapointed good food and friendly I shall return.

The attitude of the staff are terrible, phoned up to order food and the boy who I presume was younger was incredibly blunt, thought I had the wrong number as when I phoned all I received was “hi” in a very rude tone. Talk about customer service!!
