Delicious Sunday lunch. Very busy place so service was a bit slow.

Just had the best chicken burger! Cooked to perfection. 50% off too in the January offer plus £5 a pint for IPA ( on offer until 7pm ) Staff delightful. Restaurant warm and cosey. Definitely would recommend.

Very friendly and helpful staff. Lovely food. Spacious restaurant ideal for large parties at one end of the premises. Great varied menu at reasonable cost. Went at lunchtime so can't really comment on ambience as not many people eating. It's a very popular venue in the evenings.

I had just returned to Sale from a trip into Manchester on the tram with my eldest Son, and we were famished. It was about 1pm, and we fancied an all-day breakfast, we tried jackalope and the other eateries, but they were all full with a massive wait. I had never been to canteena, so I suggested we take a look as a last resort. Frankly, we should have just headed there to begin with. On entering, it was fairly quiet but not in an awkward, empty way. It was pleasing to step into a nice sized, airy restaurant with families and couples seated around comfortably. No one was shoved in on top of each other or forced to sit by the window to make them appear busy. We got to choose where to sit, and the lady in charge cleared a table for us, wiped it down, and gave us fresh everything before we sat down. She was super welcoming, smiley, and just overall a joy to be served by. It might seem odd but we were offered sparkling water and tap water which was so nice, in other places I've had to ask for just plain old tap water and it's often met with a face pull, grumble or similar like I'm a poor commoner. I'm not either, really. I just can't abide sparkling water and also refuse to pay extortionate rates for bottled water when tap water is more than good enough as a side to meals and drinks. To offer tap water so easily was just so refreshing, and it was done so without any judgement whatsoever. Just a little quirk of mine is all. Canteena doesn't do an all-day breakfast as it's a bar and grill place. Nonetheless, the menu had some fabulous dishes to tempt us. We ordered off the brunch menu, eggs florentine for me, and my son had the chimchurri steak and eggs. It was fabulous, just what we needed after a morning of suit shopping. The eggs oozed with perfection, the spinach was wilted to the right texture, and the hollindaise sauce was so soft and creamy I was left wanting more, all served on beautiful toasted muffin, and sourdough toast. My son virtually inhaled his and said his rump was cooked to perfection and went down amazingly with his eggs. I had the best pot of tea I've had in absolutely ages too, can't beat a beautiful brew, in my opinion. There was no rush to finish. Staff monitored us discreetly from a distance and didn't disturb us. How nice it was not to be asked how my meal was just as I've placed a forkful in my mouth! As I finished up my brew and my son was absorbed in his emails, I took in my surroundings more. The venue is clean, open, fresh, and welcoming. The other side of the restaurant had all the tables dressed up. Maybe a planned party was happening. It looked beautiful, intimate, and cosy, quite a hard task to achieve in such a big space, yet they had done it and some. The staff all walked around with purpose and smiles, not a sullen face to be seen considering they were working on a weekend. The room was filled with laughter from staff and customers, and it was just so pleasant to be comfortably sat amongst it all. You've guessed by now that I'm recommending you pop in and try the place for yourself, it's a real gem in a corner of Stanley Square, Sale. You won't be disappointed, and I shall be returning soon as possible to try more of the menu and maybe take them up on one of the great offers they advertise.

We loved it here today! The veggie roast I had was the best! I ordered it with normal gravy, which was the best I ever had. We came with 2 toddlers and the children's portions were the first ones brought to the table (press followed straight away) , but unfortunately you don't see it very often where they ensure they kiss gets their food first. The babycinos were a perfect temperature too. Will definitely come back as there was more than one thing on the menu I would love to try.

Lovely Christmas atmosphere and attentive staff

[They used to have a somewhat good service up to 7 months ago. Since then, the service and attitude has fallen below par]. Good service only from the young tall girl with brown long hair and the new barman in the first week of May 2024. He has gone now. Good price cocktails, but they are half price until 6pm

Every time we visit the Canteen bar restaurant in Sale, it disappoints us (except for a few exceptions, when they had a good waitress in the past). We came across: Slow service, mouthy supervisor, attitude problem from new waiter, and so on. To sum it up, even when we spent over £80 pounds, they treat you like a pariah in there. It is not worth the hassle to visit

Absolutely fantastic. Don't hesitate to go. I went with friends for Sunday lunch. A beautiful welcome by one of the lovely owners and I have to say all the team running the show were professional and friendly. My friends and I shared the Sunday lunch sharing platter and every piece of food was perfectly cooked we devoured every morsel. It was a perfect afternoon. We will be going back.

Brilliant place if you want a vibrant place to eat full of atmosphere. Staff are simply great. Service and value for money are excellent and yes we will be going back soon.

We had such a lovely meal here last night, the service was brilliant, esp the attentive floor manager (who I forgot the name of, sorry) once my son's nut allergy was known, she'd explained everything to us and was very reassuring. The steak was cooked perfectly, and my son loved his chicken wings starter. Lovely food. A+

Great casual atmosphere with a great menu!

Bizarre experience last night. Five of us came in for a friend’s birthday meal, three of us had the steak frites deal and two had other mains. When we were discussing pudding we saw that there was a Thursday offer - buy any bottle of wine and get a complimentary cheese board. We thought this was great so ordered two bottles of wine (£30 each) to share, with some cheese. A waitress then comes over and says I’m sorry but my manager says you can’t have this deal as you’ve already had the steak deal!! Utterly ridiculous - at no point is it ever pointed out on the menu that you can’t order “another” offer, plus only three of us had the steaks anyway so why couldn’t our other two friends order a bottle of wine and cheese, if this was the case? My friend went to ask the manager for clarity and he was very dismissive and just said “if I let everyone order the deals, that’s all people would do”?! Don’t put them on the menu then!!! We decided to just get out bill and go elsewhere. After we asked for the bill, the poor waitress was sent over again and told us “he says he’ll honour it, just this once” 🤣🙈 what are you talking about?! We aren’t trying to pay with a discount voucher or take the mickey, we’re trying to order £60 of wine and to enjoy the cheese that comes with it as your very clear Thursday offer! Very strange, rude and bad business sense. The restaurant was quieting down at this point, we would have likely ordered coffees, maybe some more dessert, and settled in spending money for another hour or so. Instead we were made to feel like sneaky grabbers, trying to take advantage of a clearly stated menu 🤷‍♀️🤣 On the plus side the food we had was delicious & our waitress was great, not her fault. A real shame and left a very bad impression.

Love it here, we have been a few times now and the food is always excellent and the staff really helpful and friendly. Some of the main menu is a bit pricey but I think that is the case in most places now unfortunately and they have a great set menu and brunch menu which are more affordable. At least it's always delicious 😋 Update.... Just had THE most incredible Sunday Roast of my life (not made by my mum)... Just to die for!!! 😋

Spontaneously our party decided to go here to end a sad day saying goodbye to a loved one. We all enjoyed our food and the service, and the venue itself is pleasant and clean. I would definitely return, although personally don't like too much noise so would choose to attend a less busy time as we did on this occasion.

Their steak is always great. However, last time, their burger patty was not fresh and had a weird smell, so I had to ask them to make a new burger. A discount was not offered for the unfresh burger, hence no tip was given.

Veggie Sunday roast is great. Told the waitress I was not vegetarian and she asked if I wanted Yorkshire puddings and gave me a choice of gravy. Since taken a vegan relative and they loved the true vegetarian roast. What's not to like

Well that was a surprise. Booked for 5.30 for 4 people but our car broke down and we did t get there until6.30 waitress checked no problem and pushed our booking forward, very busy and is quite noisy but adds to atmosphere watching all the chefs and bar staff. We opted for a chateaubrian steak which is rare but gold outside. It was beautiful. Expensive but for 2. Had sweet potatoes fries and tenderstem broccoli with it. Broccoli could have been a bit fresher but the steak made up for it. So busy the service was a little slow but enhanced the chat with friends. Definitely going again although not the cheapest depends on what you order!

Visited this place on a busy Saturday night, staff very friendly and professional, nice atmosphere. Starters OK but the dexter sirloin 400g a total waste of money once the fat and grizzle trimmed away not much edible meat left, and only comes with a few chips everything else extra. I've had better cuts of meat from Tesco.

We visited on Saturday for our sons birthday. The staff were great, seating us promptly, and making sure we had a jug of water on the table before handing us the menus. The atmosphere is lovely, suiting all diners, including some adorable pooches. We decided to eat from the early evening menu which had a good selection to choose from. We all commented on the quality of our meals, and our son and his girlfriend (who love eating out) said the steak frites were exceptional. We enjoyed a great bottle of rosè which was well priced, and a couple of beers. We all absolutely loved it, and would highly recommend visiting (we will be back).

We had a really good experience at Canteena. My mum has an onion and garlic allergy and can really struggle getting any food when going to new places. The manager Glenn was really attentive to this and the food was superb, all of the started, main course ms and desserts were great. Our first time trying Canteena since it opened and it did not disappoint! We had a burger and Philly cheese steak and the food was delicious. The staff were great and the place had a really chilled atmosphere. We will definitely be back!

It's a really good place to meet and eat. Food and drink very nice. In my opinion the drink is a bit pricey. This seems to be the norm with eateries around here london prices creeping in. Also in this day and age, why is the a 10% added to the bill

We were visiting family in Sale on a Sunday and wanted a menu that was not dominated by fish dishes due to allergies. We had the Sunday menu and the food was a bit of a mixed bag in terms of quality, as was the service. The place lacked atmosphere and was not busy. Felt more like a canteen than a restaurant.

Food excellent, nice menu. Team are brilliant. The ladies that own the business are always great. Last visit we were looked after by the stand in manager Glen. Absolute star.. can't fault the place.... 10/10 an asset to the town.

Definitely up there as one of the best Sunday Roasts in Manchester! (And I've tried many). 🍗 Visited a few times. Always been friendly service and the food is superb. Brilliant sunday lunch. Steaks also great, I'd say on par with the likes of Gaucho, Hawksmoor etc.

Ruined our Christmas Eve. Booked a table for half 6 and they “ran out of food”. Was quite clear they’d got greedy with walk-ins and not prioritised customers who’d booked. They asked us to buy drinks and wasted even more time before telling us so we were stuck with no where to go by the time we found out. Don’t rely on them for a special occasion like we did.

Went as a walk in group of 5 and 1 puppy. Met with family and niece was hungry so thought we'd try get in at Canteena but not expecting to as was busy night. Lisa Danni was fantastic and got us a table and water for pup. A larger table came free and they asked us if we would like to move which we did. Food was lovely,steak,chicken,nibbles and cocktails. Thank you for squeezing us in without a booking on a busy Xmas eve eve and for being so friendly. We'll be back soon.

We had the most wonderful evening at this fabulous restaurant. When we walked in we were greeted with a smile, a bit of a giggle with the waitress and were taken to our seats. Our waitress was extremely knowledgeable about the menu. Myself and my friend opted for the fish and chips with peas, it was outstanding. I have never seen flakes of fish that white, the batter was light and very tasty. We chose sticky toffee pudding for dessert, it was gorgeous!! The atmosphere was relaxed, professional and comfortable. The staff were utterly delightful, nothing was too much bother. All of this for £18.50 per head!! We would both highly recommend this restaurant, 5 stars from two very happy customers ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️😀

Excellent! The food was very good, the portions were too much to eat. Great and modern decor, lots of space. The service was very nice and helpful. We ate Sunday roast, portions of chicken, everything was great, the children were also happy with their dishes. The pineapple for dessert was great! I didn't have time to take a photo of the children's dessert because they ate it too quickly :)

27/10/2023. Food was excellent, service was excellent lovely, friendly, smiley and nothing was too much trouble. Warm friendly atmosphere we were sat just a little too close to the artist which made conversation a little difficult at times. On saying that we had a lovely evening and a big thank you to Lisa and Danny for the fizz it was a lovely surprise. So a big 👏👏👏👏👏👏 to all concerned for making our evening so lovely.

I started my day with my partner on my last day in Sale here at Canteea Bar+Grill. The stuff there was lovely especially (Lisa) food wise ... My plate (fish and chips) arrived 45' after I ordered, I was very hungry and happy despite waiting so long for my plate to find hair in my food. That put my appetite aside, and I ordered another beer, will I go there again? No!

A hidden gem in the heart of Sale. The menu is phenomenal and the roasts are divine. I had the cheese and onion pie and it was beautiful!!!

This place is amazing! Go...go now...the food is fantastic and very reasonably priced...we had the Philly Cheese Steak and it was the best i have ever tasted...the fries are also great. Good atmosphere even on a Wednesday night.

Went here for a meal with the family after having drinks previously. Food was great, atmosphere was good and service was spot on. It was very enjoyable evening. Cannot fault it one bit.

Visited Canteena as a group of 5 in mid August. The restaurant is definitely bright and modern inside. We agreed however, based on the various dishes we chose between us, the food was rather underwhelming yet pricey for what it was. Presentation whilst obviously trying hard to offer something new, am not sure worked, as some dishes just appeared basic. The wine was expensive and found no difference between the £29 and £21 per bottle offerings. The addition of a DJ made for a good atmosphere, however it at times did make conversation difficult. We all still had an enjoyable evening but would recommend the restaurant reconsider it’s offerings considering there’s so much competition within the Sale area these days.

Tasty steak and fries a cold beer with kind service.

A rush and a push out the door. Yes that's what it felt like to eat here. Me and a friend popped in mainly because I thought it was still run by the people behind the Stretford Food Hall. From the moment we stepped in. The atmosphere was cold and unfriendly from what I assume was a male manager. The food comes quick, but then you are rushed and made to feel very unwelcome. The young male server continuously circled the table (probably under orders) desperately hoping we'd be finished after 5 mins so he could clear the decks and get rid of us. In the end, we both felt uncomfortable and unwelcome. We left and went to Jackaloupe so we could have a drink in peace. If this is hospitality in Sale, they can keep it. The Emperor's New Clothes.

Great a la carte menu, really tasty burgers and starters, really well looked after by the staff.

Staff here are excellent service is spot on have visited a few times now and we have enjoyed it every time. Food is always hot and fresh .today we took are daughter and grandsons who demolished their food and according to them the pancakes with fruit and excellent ice cream was excellent.

Excellent first visit to Canteena bar and grill. Superb food - all beautifully presented and seasoned, good portions too! We chose a sirloin with hand cut chips, Also the crispy beef salad which was delicious, and the summer duck starter- which we loved. Chimmichuri steak and eggs was great too- perfect poached eggs. Lovely fresh ingredients used throughout. The cocktails were fab and the choice is excellent. I enjoyed a mojito spritz or two 🙌🏻. Not too sweet as I find cocktails can sometimes be. My son enjoyed a sticky toffee pudding with ice cream too- deeelish- but we were too full to get one! Service was great- fantastic management team. The place is lovely and clean and the decor is great. They had a big screen up to watch the lionesses which I believe they are doing again- well done Canteena- we will be back! ❤️

Just popped in today for a late lunch with a friend. From the moment we walked through the door, the staff/owners could not have been more friendly and welcoming. The food was delicious 😋 we went for the light bites sandwiches (Chimichurri Steak & Smashed Avocado options), they were both cooked/served to perfection. Will definitely be back! Really don't get the bad reviews on here, certainly wasn't our experience. Keep up the awesome work!

Didn’t eat . Had just been to jp joules pint of shipyard and a Gordon’s gin and tonic £6.83. Cantina pint of cloudy something £6.98 See where I’m coming from + a Bombay and fever tree total cost £13.45 Hope they do well- can’t see it Extortionate cost. Disappointed won’t be coming back sorry

Not the friendliest atmosphere; staff were nice enough but a lot of passive aggression from management, the polite facade resembled that of a couple after an argument, felt quite sorry for the staff. Food was standard but certainly overpriced for what it was. Perhaps it just wasn’t their day?

Came in on Thursday with my family. We had the prawns and chorizo, calamari, hummus and bruschetta, all of which were unreal. We then got two chateubriands between us which were cooked to perfection. Staff were very friendly and attentive, would definitely recommend to anyone.

Can't understand the negative reviews on here. Came today (Sunday) for a roast with my Mum, excellent service, lovely food and the atmosphere was delightful! They had a live singer on (and not too loud, yes we're old). Great drinks selection and just generally all round fab, we'll absolutely be coming again, thanks to the lovely waiting staff who couldn't have been more attentive.

Great food, drink and service. A superb place, but **please please please** ask the flower crowned singer to turn the volume down. We can't hear each other. It's really intrusive, and frankly I'll avoid coming when she's singing, which is a shame cos I enjoy the place.
