Canal Café in Surrey Heath

Nice place, outside benches(lots) enable you to sit outside and watch the canal traffic/people. Good coffee and nice roads nearby winding through the trees..

Lovely Thai and English dishes. Thai takeaway or sit in menu is excellent. Worth travelling from Guildford to collect for Saturday night treat. We have also eaten in at lunch time English which was also very good.

Proper mugs of tea and great cake.

This is a lovely no thrills cafe with a good selection of vegetarian food that doubles as a Thai restaurant weekend evenings.

This was a great place for breakfast. Its in a great location for a walk along the Basingstoke canal and back for breakfast as it doesn't open until 9.30. For £7.10 you get a full breakfast, two toast and tea.

Okay but wouldn't recommend the fish and chips as batter was very overdone.

A lovely little stop off point for a walk along the canal, nice range of food and drink at good prices, nice amount of seating and helpful and friendly staff

It really is a lovely cafe and I'm so glad it was able to survive covid. We have been coming here for years.

This little cafe is right near the Basingstoke Canal, it has tables inside or you can sit outside on one of the picnic benches. There's a children's play area close by and a car park if you want to drive to the cafe. The food is lovely - I can recommend the cheesy chips and also the chicken burger. After you've eaten you can walk it off by taking a stroll along the canal.

Ordered tuna chess panini, half of the food missing tuna and chess.

Place very busy though few diners. Really enjoyed the meal. Some would say the service was slow but we only had a main so they did not benefit that the extra time while we ate a starter would give them. I suspect we will be going back.

They had gluten free bread, which is often unusual for cafes. They also had plenty of signage about other intolerances. I had a small cooked breakfast.

A lovely place next to the Basingstoke Canal. There is a good amount of parking and it's also accessible via the Canal for boats and walters/cyclists. It's also a short walk from Frimley Lodge. There is also a good children's playground with seating outside the cafe for parents to keep an eye on the children.

Great little cafe next to the canal. Ideal place for those camping on the nearby site. Excellent Thai food as takeaway but also as good for a breakfast, lunch or just a coffee. Great little Park right next yo it forbids to play in whilst you enjoy that coffee too 😉

Best place on the canal to grab a quick a cup of tea and a snack. Prices are very reasonable

This is one of those gems you stumble across. Lovely food, nothing outstanding but good honest food. A beautiful setting outside, and pleasant smiley faces cooking and taking the orders

This was the most uninspired, bland, lack lustre meal we have ever had! The food was barely warm. Mostly sauce with little meat or vegetables, such as potatoes in the massamam curry. Previous meals have been reasonable. Based on this expensive disaster we will not be going back!

What a gem! First time we've visited the canal cafe, lovely place with benches in the shade a lovely place to chill out. The sandwiches and drinks we had were fab, looked good and tasted delicious. We're looking forward to another visit

At the Basingstoke Authorities/Canal Visitor Centre in Mytchett, you can rent canoes and there is a campsite for camping ⛺️. Inside, there is a Canal Cafe, where the food is not the main focus, but it provides a great environment for quality family time. The restaurant is designed with a glasshouse concept indoors, and you can also choose to sit outside on wooden tables and chairs. Next to it is a small children's playground. After a satisfying meal, you can take a stroll along the riverbank. We saw duck parents leisurely swimming with their ducklings 🪿, and you can also rent canoes to have some fun 🚣‍♀️. It's truly delightful 😎! On one side of the camping grassland, there are bunny burrows 🐰, but they are quite shy and you have to approach them very carefully to catch a glimpse of them 🐇. We discovered a seemingly decorative door 😅, which turned out to be a nice spot for taking photos 📸. There is even a flower that looks like a Mario star 🌟! #KissKidsFamily

Cafe with Thai food. Was not expecting this. Food was perfect and fresh. You order at till then sit either in the cafe or outdoors where there is a play area and river. When food is ready, you pick up and bring to your own table. A great system for a cafe with in and outdoors. Padthai was spot on. Def recommend so long as you are not bothered about nice decor as it is a cafe afterall but just with authentic food.

Having spent years in Asia and sampled my fair share of Thai food, I can confirm this is fresh and as good as I've tried outside Asia. Beef Red Curry and Chicken Pad Thai, both freshly prepared and got the thumbs up from my wife. It's definitely worth a visit, we enjoyed eating Thai outdoors with the canal. Child friendly with a play area and a wider menu that includes burgers etc.

A great stop off point whether hiking or biking. I happened to be out mountain biking and this place is a great stop off with easy bike storage due to location. Had slice of absolutely gorgeous carrot cake, 🍰 so needed after gruelling ride. Other cooked foods available, it was the cake that tempted me today. Nice tranquil location next to Basingstoke canal.

It's good to look after kida while having tea and food in this restaurant. Thai food is only available from 1730 to 2200 on Wed, Thur, Fri, Sat and Sun only.

The food we had was good, just a little tired looking inside.

Food OK shame they are not serving Thai during the day like they were. Short staffed so understandable. I just have to go in the evening instead.

Great piece of carrot cake. They also do scoop ice cream proper flavours. Can be a bit of a line though.

We have visited this place on a number of occasions over the years. Small inside, but with outside tables as well. Our regular choice is one of the breakfast options, egg, sausage and chips. Friendly service always. Popular with folk visiting the canal, and adjacent kids playarea.

Food always fantastic. Lunch menu is great for a sunny day.

Opening hours of the 1st section till 16:00 on weekends helps us with a place to dine while most of the restaurants nearby are closed. Hot Thai dishes, both the starter (Spring rolls!) and main dish are really delicious. There are many options for kids to choose as well. Definitely a nice place to come for a walk and enjoy a good meal.

A fantastic little cafe, went in as a large group and ordered a full English breakfast. I had the number 3, it was lovely. 👍 👌 👏 👊 💪. Double fried egg, double bacon, double sausage, double black pudding, double hash browns, beans, mushrooms, fried tomatoes, fried bread and two rounds of toast. Wash all that down with a cuppa warm stuff of your choice all for under £10. It was simply the best full English breakfast I've had in a very long time. Our whole parties (8 of us) had lovely warm food, all consistently cooked, staff were friendly and helpful. We will definitely be coming back again. Great stuff 👍 👏 👊 💪 🥓🍳🍅☕

Dropped in for breakfast, very nice not greasy, decent portions but fried egg was hard!

Good strong tea and a reasonable priced flap jack

It was 5 o'clock when I got there. The opening time was 5:30 pm. I waited outside to get ice cream. When it opened, he told me he couldn't sell ice cream in a cone in the evening. I asked, I said I was just waiting for ice cream half an hour. but it didn't work. Ice cream was right in front of my eyes. all he had to do was put in two scoops of filling. He was not friendly at all.

Just had a lovely takeout. Padgrapow and green curry. Both were awesome. So good to have a local Thai place again. Reasonably priced dishes as well.

Love the food, great value too, but I wish they would redo the inside of the cafe - maybe some air con, so that we don't have to sit outside of it's busy outside.

I don't eat the cooked food, just the coffee and a piece of cake occasionally. The coffee if rubbish, cake is ok. Setting is very good in dry weather. Sit out beside the canal and enjoy the day. .... If you like to bring your own coffee you're set for a great time. Can't speak for food, which might be great. I know people who enjoy the food

Nice little cafe for breakfast. There's an outside seating area and a little area for kids to play. Staff were friendly and food was also good and for a good price. It's Thai owned so you'll get lots of Thai food. You might find that some of the breakfast options have been sold out so arrive in good time.

What a brilliant find! Authentic Thai freshly cooked on site for evening openings of the daytime Canal Cafe. Lovely food and wonderful staff. It's BYO alcohol with a £5 corkage charge per table per evening.

This has to be one of the little known gems in the area, the location is awesome with free parking ( which for the uk is like hens teeth) the food is pretty good and very well priced. The only reason I gave 4 stars is the wait for food can be quite long on busy days

Great Thai food , I would recommend booking as it does get busy due to the camp site, the staff are lovely and the good is great , if you have kids it's great too as they have a kids menu and park next to it.

They have a catchment of campers and walkers but would need to up game to attract visitors as it's tucked away at the canal centre. I had a small breakfast with mushrooms and black pudding as extras. £7 seemed good value as it included a cup of Tetley tea and some limp white buttered bread. Perfectly cooked fried egg and mushrooms but the sausage and bacon were not good quality. I wouldn't be in any rush to go back.
