First time trying a mini fish chips and peas meal, was very good and reasonably priced, I'd be buying again

Had fish and chips recently from here and have to say its the best in chesterfield. Extremely fresh and well cooked. We will be returning. I did hear him say something about leaving in June? I hope this is not the case??

Shame the opening hours are so short

FANTASTIC been here many times, and every time our food and service has been with out fault every time. The fish is good size for medium and small chips are plenty for one. The owner is extremely pleasant to have a chat with. Cooked from fresh, which is more than needed as other chippys need to take a leaf out of his book. Highly recommend, please visit Calow fish bar. First visit, Ordered a Large Sausage, Large Chips, got sooo many chips I had to share with a friend and we still couldn't manage. Great food, great price, awesome portion sizes. A large chips will easily feed 2 or more!

Calow Fish Bar is easily the best fish and chip shop within a five-mile radius: superb quality fish and chips served by the friendliest couple around (they do magic shows too, but as a separate thing). Highly recommended indeed!

Not a place to go if your vegan ,not even the chips as they use beef fat . Friendly couple who run the fish and chip shop

AVOID AT ALL COSTS. Called whilst we were passing as we saw the sign on the main road. Literally the slowest place on earth to get served. Constantly waiting for chips to come out of the fryer and very disorganised. Waited 35 minutes for a chip cob and then asked for my money back.

Very disappointed first time I ordered was medioca tried again as up this way working and the fish had more grease than John Travolta chips and peas bland sorry not be back got to be one of the worst chippy meals I've had

In March 2023 and still refusing to let me touch the salt and vinegar pots incase i have covid 🙄 needless to say I won’t be going back

Beautifully freshly cooked food a great family treat, was really pleased to see covid precautions still in place and the salt and vinegar is put on by the shop and not the customers excellent service

I have been using this establishment for a long time it’s really great and it’s very clean. It’s nice to see people who care about the community and how they are doing their business. I like the fact they are still putting salt and vinegar on food for the customer to prevent contamination and germs . Well done

This is our favourite fish and chip shop. Always freshly cooked and delicious. I ring up and order and it's wrapped when I arrive to collect so the food is always hot and fresh. David and his wife are really friendly and welcoming and nothing is too much trouble.

I’ve never had delivery as live local but the food always freshly cooked and is our go to place only slight thumbs down is they shut at 8. The owner always is very helpful

I was going to say you'd been lucky if they're open, in fact you'd be unlucky. If they are you wait an age even if you pre order chances are they have given them someone who's walked in and you wait forever for average chips anyway. Calow needs a decent takeaway and this isn't it!

This fish shop is the slowest fish shop on the planet, this gets mentioned on numerous occasions but the owner just replys to his reviews with excuse after excuse, get someone to help you serve and stop being a tight wad

Part of the order was missing, ordered via a delivery app so no chance of getting it resolved straight away. They did refund the missing order value. Chips were nice, fish was ok. Large fish and chips wasn’t worth the money, this may have been the way they have to package for delivery drivers however price should reflect that, more specifically I think the large fish and chips had about a cone amount of chips, and not a big piece of fish. Good value for the fish sausage and chips meal deal. This all may be because we ordered through delivery app. Will try again but will pick the order up next time.

Not suitable if your vegan as the oil they use has animal fat in it , nothing vegan to offer

Dont try a delivery from here it never arrives. They use uber and it just doesn't arrive. Tried messaging the chip shop directly ..no reply

Collected a few delivers from here now it's not in my zone but I never refuse collections, and here's why, he takes the travel time of drivers into account, making sure his customers food is leaving from the frier to the drivers bag, some other company's could learn a lot from this place. Polite, pleasure to collect from.

The pie was stale, you get 1 star for the chips and cheese, my son was not keen on the batter coating on the nuggets he said was to well done. Burger quality very poor, and your kabab meat was also of poor quality chunky slabs of meat thrown onto a tortilla with no care put into the wrap at all, my suggestion is to at least get a better carving tool, then look at changing your meat suppliers absolutely terrible. Delivery service was spot on.

Hi there. It took over half an hour to get a mini fish and chips with only 1 customer in before me. My time allocated for dinner was nearly over by the time I had driven there, waited 35mins and then drove back to work so I didn't even get to eat all of what I waited and paid for.

First time I have been to Calow Fish Bar and will definitely be returning! Everything was cooked to order, which while takes a while, the food benefits, and with the little buzzer this means in the current pandemic situation I could sit in my car till it was ready, great idea. The fish was fantastic, light crispy batter, great flavour and not at all greasy. The chips were delicious and the large sized portion was HUGE. Everything in the order was spot on and I look forward to trying a few different things on the menu in future.

I thought I'd try this fish bar one night. It was snowing bad, but the chap rang me and said he would stay open for me, despite needing to go home early because of the heavy snow. Both man and woman were very nice and chatty, very welcoming. I took the meals home and they were very nice. Fish and chips 4 times, loads of chips too. Perfect batter. And to round it off......a discount code on the app. I have returned for more since and will continue to do so. I ignore the Bolsover (where I live) chippies as Calow Fish Bar is so much better and worth the 30 minute round trip

Outstanding!!! Just been in for fish chips and peas..... First time ive written a review which says something in its self. Absolutely gorgeous and the gentleman cooks EVERYTHING from fresh. I usually leave most of my batter but this was so delicious ive eaten the lot as its light and crispy. I will be calling in whenever im in the area 👌👌👌👌

Working in the area for a few days have found this very nice chippy so as we do quite often have to have chips on Fridays 😁 .The owner seemed ok and the chips were very good as he cooks to order . Will be using it a lot whilst in the area.

The staff here are supremely nice and friendly and the food is freshly cooked to order and tasty well worth a visit and they do deliver but I have found it's better value and a nicer experience to pop in yourself x

Myself and my husband called for chips, large battered sausage & peas for the first time last week, they was cooked fresh to order and we really enjoyed them, husband said they was the best he'd had in a long while, enjoyed that much we went for a second visit in same week, will definitely call again and I've recommend to quite a few people to go and try your chip shop, plenty of choice on menu, can highly recommend calow scollop, cannot wait to return

My first visit but will definitely be back. Lacking a decent chippy locally, I decided to try Calow. Had medium chips, small cod and mushy peas open in a tray. The fish and chips were cooked to order and delicious. Menu offers the usual chip shop fare at a decent price, but with a few interesting twists which I hope to try on future visits.

Bad. Absolutely horrible. Can't cook fish and chips. GO TO ANDY'S IN HASLAND. Dear owner, You can argue all you like but I would listen to the customer (I live in Calow and don't like the way you cook your food) If you want to be a successful chippy then learn how to batter a fish well and cook chips properly. Both cod (available after a cod shortage specifically in Calow) were bonded to the paper so the batter which is soggy, wet and greasy all came off. Chips soggy and taste greasy. For a fish and chip shop I would have thought that these would be the basics to get right, no? Would have returned it except that we had planned on having some tea on a Friday evening after a busy week and wouldn't particularly want to have to come back and mess about twice?! Won't have any food to return as it's in the bin and won't be coming back. Cheers.

We ordered 3x dirty chips, calow burger, SFC calow burger and a chicken wrap, collected them, got back, opened them up, all the chips was the same size, so we paid extra for the same as a small, anyway the chips themselves wasn't exactly dirty they just had a few herbs over them, we couldn't taste anything else but herbs, then the burgers, they was like cardboard, so hard a dry, then they didn't have the sauce we wanted, so just got loads of garlic mayo on too which I'm glad he did as it helped me swallow the thing, wouldn't recommend this place for burgers if they are all like that, disappointed.

Best fish and chips I have had for a long time

Everywhere I look it says you serve fresh food and cooked fresh. I think that is a little bit of a lie. Your chips were soggy and greasy. Your pie was soggy underneath and pastry was dry on top. Mushy peas were not cooked properly. This is the 2nd time I've been and still not impressed. Disappointed.

As we are local we decided to try this chippy for the first time and found it to be very average. We usually go to North Sea Fish Bar on Whittington Moor which is really good. We didn't try the fish just had chips and curry sauce to see what they were like. Chip portion was small, they didn't come on the usual tray you get but in a small burger carton with a lid. There was a small amount of curry sauce on the top the cost £2. I wasn't impressed with the chips as they didn't look freshly cooked but they did taste ok. I don't expect a massive amount but this was the smallest tray of chips I think I've ever had. Burger cartons are for burgers, chips should be on a proper tray. Safe to say we won't be returning.

Love this chippy sometimes the chips are a bit greasy and the oil sets my I.b.s off but I still go back every time I think they have changes the potatoes as they were the best chips I've had in a long time the other day keep up the good work guys

Have ordered many times from Calow Fish Bar and have never been disappointed as yet. The food is always freshly cooked and hot, and while this can sometimes mean you have to wait an extra couple minutes in peak times, it is worth the wait and I usually order on the app anyway which avoids this problem. The owners are very nice and friendly and in addition to the usual things you'd expect to find on a chippy menu they are always experimenting with new items - definitely try the salt and chili nuggets! All in all a great local chippy that I will be continuing to visit for the foreseeable future.

If you want lightning quick service go elsewhere. This is a small chippy run to exacting standards and as such most things are cooked to order - no warm ups or kept warm chips here! Greasy chips? The vast majority of customers like them as they are, nothing worse than a dry chip! Friendly service, good food - what's not to like?

The service is getting slower and slower, the chips are swimming in grease and the peas are vile , the owner is a nice guy the service is painfully slow and the food is going downhill fast

Live this place, great food and their mo old app is very useful, but give them time with your order it can take a while as they often cook specials while you wait.

Went with a Cub pack. Very friendly and value for money.

We have only recently moved into the area and decided to try the local chippy. They were good chips, not greasy at all. We got a warm welcome from he owner and he suggested we download their app because if we order in advance using the app the choice is much wider. We will certainly try it in future

Friendly place, a little slow but everything is cooked fresh and tasty. To save the wait it is possible to pre-order on their app and collect it.

Update , To be fair on calow fish bar , i have seen for myself and heard that after the bad review they got.t The fish and chips shop took notice and are now nice and are not soaked in grease , also the Thai food is very good here , keep up the good work
