Caffrello Cafe in Newark and Sherwood

Absolutely fantastic Vietnamese restaurant! The phở here is more flavoursome than many of the 'famous' Vietnamese spots in London—it brought back memories of the cafes in Vietnam. The waitor was incredibly friendly and helpful, making for a very pleasant dining experience. Plus, it's toddler-friendly, which is obviously a bonus for families. Definitely a real gem for Newark and highly recommend it to anyone craving authentic Vietnamese cuisine!

My partner and I came here for lunch today and was blown away, after never having Vietnamese food before the server Roman gave us a full experience, he explained all the the dishes and when the dishes came he went through how the Vietnamese eat it to have the full experience, The food was exquisite, couldn't fault anything, The noodle soup broth with tofu was like a hug in a bowl, If I had the money I'd eat there everyday, I'll be recommending this place to everyone as it was an incredible experience and a nice welcoming as we've recently moved to the area

A great place to eat with some amazing tasting dishes. The food choice was excellent and presentation on point too. Credit to our waiter who took time to.talk through the menu and some of the overlooked whys and wherefores of the cuisine.

Visited on Saturday night. The decor of the place is lovely. Staff are extremely friendly and helpful and the flavour of the food was brilliant. My partner is vegan and plenty of options for him. We also had a long chat with the owner who gave me recommendations on what to try next time. Really good experience. My partner has now found a place to get a good takeaway!

Great food if a limited menu. The young lady serving us was very attentive when offering more drinks etc. but couldn`t clear the starter plates.

Amazing food, proper street food vibe loved it

Vietnamese street food at its finest! From squid to rice bowls this food was absolutely beautifully cooked! We went with friends and none of us had been before, which is lovely as we all didn't really know what to expect, entering the restaurant you can see they love the place, tastefully decorated and beautiful aromas hit you as you walk in, plenty of space if you have mobility problems, not a massive place but they were space aware so your not sat on each other's tables, tables round near the kitchen are like booths so you get some privacy. The. There are some tables along near the bar, parking was across the road in a pay and display car park but that's literally 3 min walk, the owner/manger made time to come and speak to us - after the place had calmed down, he explained how they started (2019!) and chatted about food & drinks to us, i even tried a coffee that they make! Stunning definitely having one of those again when we go back (definitely are) I had squid to start, I mean just yes!! With the sweet chilli dish it was amazing Would we go back....oh yes talking about it for another set of friends next week haha 😂 (Because of the low light my photos don't do the food justice)

Fabulous food, this is the first time we tried Northern Vietnamese food, which is rare to find in the UK. I'd drive up from Nottingham for this. Instant favourite. Thanks Roman for making us feel so welcomed

Friendly service, inexpensive food that's well prepared and presented. Our waiter explained what the dishes were like (apparently the pho is a family recipe). I think the pho beef is better than at Coco Tang in Nottingham. The coffee is good too - fairly strong, but the latte we had was smooth. I'd strongly recommend this place for lunch. The menu appears to have been recently expanded again, with some useful additions such as quay (sort of fried bread sticks) to go with the pho (whereas, I'd often order pork spring rolls to perform a similar function). There appears to be a growing selection of Asian beers too (Lucky Buddha is worth trying).

Wonderful family run restaurant. Had a few dishes now all of which have been great. Would suggest you try the Pho if you go ! Simply Devine and service is always spot on.

We had a fabulous meal at Caffrello's. The menu was short and really interesting, I was spoiled for choice as I could have eaten everything. I had the Pho and my wife had the wok fried noodles. Both were really tasty and very nicely served. Our first time trying Vietnamese cooking and it won't be our last.

Great restaurant with a good atmosphere and amazing staff. I had the spring rolls and king prawn pan fried flat noodles. It was all really nice and well cooked. I had a take away but the staff were still really attentive. I’m a pescatarian but I did forget to ask if there was any meat included with it.

It's safe to say that Cafrello is the best restaurant in Newark. Food is absolutely amazing every time. The only place where you can eat real spring rolls not frozen Iceland stuff. Pho soup is huge! Bun Cha with grilled pork is my favourite from the entire menu. We like to order 2 starters and 3 mains to share the soup between us. The service is amazing! The waiter is very helpful and creats very friendly atmosphere. Can't wait to go back again!

Great place. Delicious food, great service and a cozy place to eat. We were even given an explanation about the food and how to use chopsticks. Highly recommended!

Extremely happy with our meal here. We visited on a Tuesday evening and it wasn’t too busy at all. The service was great and we were greeted by a very polite, friendly lady. We shared the pork spring rolls as a starter and some prawn crackers and then I had the beef rice bowl which was fantastic. I’d never had Vietnamese food before and honestly it’s very tasty. Thank you for a wonderful experience.

Really enjoyed Caffrello, friendly and helpful staff, superb food, good atmosphere. Sadly we live over two and a half hours drive from Newark, otherwise we'd eat here every week. Good work folks, cheers 👍

Awesome. Really friendly, great service and delicious food. I visited here on Sunday night looking for dinner whilst I'm in Newark for work. I was made to feel very welcome and the atmosphere is very relaxed. I was recommended to start with pork spring rolls - these are delicious, especially when paired with the hot & sour dipping sauce. I followed this with the beef noodles, again delicious and really flavoursome but still light. Great value for money. I'm going back tonight to try the Pho and I can't wait!

Was our first time visiting and WOW!! Roman was so passionate about their menu, went through every single item and his own recommendations. Checked back on us a few times and even taught my wife how to use the chopsticks. Food was AMAZING, DELICIOUS and with beautifully presented, with great portions and flavours. Our first time having a takeaway from here and wow it was delicious. Beautiful food calamari cooked to perfection king prawn rice bowl for me mmmmm. My other half had Bun Cha and green fried veg, his reaction was fresh and very tasty. We will definitely be ordering again. Thank you 😊

The food is delicious, the service excellent and the atmosphere cosy and inviting. It's also great value for money and parking is easy to find within a 2 or 3 minute walk.

Roman offered us kind and friendly service on our Saturday evening visit. Lovely authentic cuisine with beautiful decorations and a comfortable atmosphere. The summer rolls were a great starter with hoisin sauce, the Pho Xao Tom (wok fried flat rice noodles with king prawns) was absolutely delicious, and the lotus tea was a unique beverage. It was very considerate of Roman to bring out two bowls for us, and the dishes were fair portions to share. When we asked, he recommended the Pho Combo soup, which we'll definitely be back to try next time!

Food are very nice and just as same as the food I taste in Vietnam and Vietnamese coffee is good here! i will definitely come again!

It was our first visit and we were excited to try new food. Once seated, our waitress, a lovely French Lady, took care of our drinks, I tried the 2 imported Vietnamese beers, both different but tasty and we shared a bottle of Merlot and iced water. Our waitress was very informative and answered all our questions about the menu and made suggestions of what we could share , we went with her combo what a good move Our food choices came out quickly and our street food experience began We shared a beef Pho ( the broth was bursting with flavour) and a chicken and jasmine rice bowl , the servings are very generous and we couldn’t finish all of it. We will be returning very soon and will be bringing friends 10 out of 10

Food was absolutely incredible. Roman was very helpful, making me “cheat chop sticks”, explaining the food and how to eat it, giving us additional sauces etc to try. The mango side salad was beautiful. We had the noodle soup which was so comforting and tasty and then a rice dish was equally delicious. So many flavours, so much food but not heavy. Atmosphere and decor very friendly and relaxing. We shall definitely be heading back soon.

Booking a table online was simple. Popped down for a quick Friday dinner and was welcomed and offered a choice of a few tables and came to take our drinks order promptly. Nice decor too with some stylish touches. We had noodle and rice dishes and they are super tasty and a good portion size. We have been before and the Pho is great too. Fresh food, friendly service and in and out in an hour was a perfect way to spend a Friday evening after work.

This is an absolute gem of a restaurant. Excellent food, really lovely staff. Was talked through my options and given little side dishes with lime, chili and pickled garlic to enhance my Pho. Utterly delicious. I went both nights of my work trip, I liked it so much. And couldn’t choose which meal I enjoyed more.

Wow. What a gorgeous spot. I went when I visited my friend in Newark. We were served by Roman who was delightful. My friend and I went to Vietnam in 2023 and she told me we HAD to go here as the Pho was just like the ones we had in Vietnam. She was right. It was delightful. Would recommend to anyone!! The service was lovely, the food came so quickly and it’s always amazing to support family run businesses!

I love this place. Just, yeah. It’s so good. Couldn’t recommend the pho enough but all my friends have said the other dishes are banging too - I just can’t bear missing out on the pho whenever I go. The spring rolls are absolutely spot on also - genuinely never had better. It’s just all delivered with love and care for Vietnamese cuisine. I’d say it’s the best food spot in Newark for sure. As we were walking around the town , we came across this wonderful Vietnamese restaurant. Never had Vietnamese , so after seeing, it scored well on trip advisor, we gave it a go. Beautiful , just beautiful food. And the hosts so very helpful and explained the dishes to us. Shame we leave an hour away (the two of us and the other member of family almost 2) . Food was delicious, fresh, flavoursome. Go visit give it a try .

Went in for dinner last night. The staff are absolutely brilliant and very efficient. The food was not great, lots of items were unavailable and the food we got was pretty tasteless. Bland and sticky. Don't think we'll be going back 😕 sorry guys 😔.

Wow what a place the food is amazing best meal we have had in ages portions are huge and cooked to perfection our waitress was fabulous and explained everything in detail she was very knowledgeable about the menu shame we are only here for a short visit as this could have become a regular place to eat we would Highly recommend.

I had a pre Christmas pre experience that I would never forget in this establishment and with it the worst visit to a restaurant in my life. Having booked the restaurant a number of weeks earlier for an evening meal to celebrate a birthday and arriving more or less on time, were were politely escorted to our table. On being presented with our menus we were told that two or three items on the menu were not available which we fully understood. We were presented with our drinks which had duly ordered. However, when the waitress came to take our order she was interrupted by the head waiter who took the waitress to one side and when they returned we were told that the only items on the menu were a number of soaps. We asked if they could possibly go to the ASDA next door to see if they could purchase the missing ingredients but they refused. It was at this stage that we found that the manager of the establishment was actually working in the kitchen. Obviously we were not impressed with what had happened and then pondered if we should stay or go. We decided on the latter. On asking if the drinks that had been delivered earlier were being offered to us as a form of compensation for the lack of food available they bluntly refused. At this point we stood up and left to went to another restaurant over the road. It was whilst we were in there that we noticed a number of take away meals being picked up. It soon be came apparent that the restaurant was more interested in walk ins and take always rather than looking after their booked clients. A very poor performance to say the least and we will not be visiting this establishment again despite the good reviews it receives on these pages.

**Edit: Visited Caffrello for a 2nd time. (December 2023) Food is still delicious, I think all of the mains are good no matter what you order, although a lot do sound the same, I don't think they are, so the menu could do with changing descriptions slightly. Think prices have gone up since I first visited in March 2023, but still reasonable. As long as they can work on the service as this really lets the place down. We ordered starters and Mains, and we're asked if we wanted prawn crackers and sweet chilli dip for £4.50 (bit pricey for something that most places offer free) but we were hungry so said yes thinking it would be something to snack on whilst we wait for the food. Almost ONE HOUR later and we still had nothing not even the prawn crackers, and all staff seemed to have disappeared, lots of people waiting around, I think for takeaway and delivery. Finally it came with no explanation or apologies, we wanted to potentially order more so I did mention to the staff I was worried if I ordered more it might take another hour but they said it should be ok and again no explanation why it took so long, they didn't acknowledge it at all. As I said before all food was delicious so I can't complain about that, when paying at the till I was asked if everything was ok and I said yes it was all delicious but mentioned about it taking so long, she said. 'Yeh We've been busy tonight with takeout orders' but still no apology. Frustrating, I just wish they could focus more on people eating in the restaurant than serving the Deliveroo, Just Eat and so on. It wasn't even busy in the restaurant that night and we were there for a long time just sitting around waiting. I hope the owner takes this on board and makes some changes otherwise this restaurant may fail. March 2023- Very good value. I absolutely love the spring rolls but found some of the starters a bit too deep fried. Found it different to some other Vietnamese restaurants I've been to but the owner told me that'secause this is Northern Vietnamese food whereas I think I've had mainly southern. Staff were friendly, I just think they were a bit busy so not so attentive. Will be back as had some very tasty dishes and is such good value.

Everyone of 5 really enjoyed food and service. The waitress was excellent; explained the menu and food when served. I am coeliac and the waitress again made sure food was gluten free. The wine was also good. The food was served quickly and the waitress checked a few times if we were all content throughout the service. I will definitely eat here again, Highly recommended.

We walked into town with the intention of having lunch. Husband said he wanted soup so was excited to try this place. The welcome was warm even though we were the only diners at the time. The food explanation was helpful and the Vietnamese beer...

The food is so fresh and delicious. The menu choice is great and really does cater for people with allergy intolerances especially GF and dairy. Highly recommend. Oh and by the way it’s dog friendly.

We have been coming here since it opened as we love our Pho 🍜. Unfortunately we will not be returning as they have started charging for all the little extras that you would expect to add to your Pho as well as charging you for a box to take some food away after paying £70. Although living in Newark i’ll just be heading to The Pho in Lincoln or Nottingham from now 🥲

Lovely Vietnamese meal had here, fresh and tasty beef noodle dish. Their card machines went down during our meal, so diners were having to find a cash point to pay, which affected the atmosphere as some people were annoyed by this. Thankfully I had some cash on me!
