Cafe Venetian in Torfaen

Just had lunch. It was OK but no toilet. A lady came in with her kid for the loo but not able to go as no toilet! I'm sure this is against the law! But the food was nice and quickly

This has recently become our go to place for a breakfast and coffee. Everything was served promptly and was piping hot. All the staff were very pleasant and helpful. Good selection on the menu and some lovely looking cakes on display. Good value food and drink.

Awful man who rushed us the minute we came in the door serving wearing his outdoor coat how unhygienic ! Tea arrived with very grubby old mismatched cups that were small coffee cups not tea cups. Tasteless carrot cake that was cold like it had been defrosted. Cold toasted tea cakes. The whole place looks like it needed a good clean and some money spent on good matching china. Staff were very young and probably doing their best but felt they were lacking guidance. I will not be returning and would not recommend anyone else not clean enough

*Written on behalf of my mother* Went in this morning for coffee and a tea cake (plus a quiet 5 minutes to myself). Coffee came promptly, however, the tea cake followed between 15 and 20 minutes later. It was stone cold. This was because the three members of staff were too busy arguing, debating who was "talking about who, behind each other's back" and loudly swearing every other word. There was a family in, with two young children, having to listen to the bad language being used by members of staff. Service was poor at best as all they wanted to do was argue about "who was saying what about who". I complained at the time, no manager there (what a surprise!). If it was me, I would sack the three of them! Definitely, not a great atmosphere to sit and have a coffee - wouldn't recommend it to anybody!

This is the third time I have visited this little cafe and I’ve only ever had the breakfast so can only comment on that, each time I have had it it’s been absolutely gorgeous and by far the best around!!The staff are lovely and helpful, if at times a little busy. Will definitely keep coming here

Went here today with two friends and a baby, after doing our Christmas shopping,,the service was the worst I have ever come across,,lady at till didnt know what she was doing,couldnt put ham egg and chips into the till, called someone else over and walked off leaving us just stood there, eventually it was all sorted including the owner butting in and then storming off, we only wanted ham,egg and chips x3 and a childs pizza and chips. The meals arrived only to see it was the cheapest of cheapy ham, 99p square ham of which we had 2 slices, we complained saying it was not worth the amount they were charging £6.50. They couldn't of given a rats ass, just said "its ham" no offer of a refund, the lady sat behind us had also complained, she had ordered the same for her granddaughter, she had to use a napkin to drain the oil off the ham it was soaking in. The arrogance of the staff was incredible, especially the owner/manager, for a business that serves customers im surprised they are still open. This used to be a fab place but not anymore,, id keep on walking by if I was you, as once you've ordered and paid they couldnt give a damn. Doesnt matter if it is a cheap eats place or fine dining, if your in this business then do a good job or get out and do something else.

A lovely young lady served me and my mother. We ordered fish n chips and a pizza. I didn’t wait too long for my food and my coffees had beautiful patterns on the top. My table was wiped straight away and one of the boys offered to bring me my cutlery.we will definitely be returning and it was a great value for money.

I came in after shopping with my little girl. What a joy to be greeted by a friendly face, lovely staff, lovely food and the environment was nice a peaceful. Have recommended this place to my family and freinds *lots of seating *great choice of food and drinks *staff recommendations on what to choose *AMAZING VALUE for money I loved my mozzarella tomato and pesto panini With salad and crisps They have a kids menu which is lovely, my daughter had fish finger beans and chips with An apple juice. She enjoyed her food and there was plenty on her plate. Love This Cafe

I reside in Barry however decided to take a trip shopping with my family to Cwmbran shopping center. We decided around 2 o'clock we were all feeling thirsty and slightly peckish. We decided upon Cafe Venetian with its big Venice style windows surrounding the cafe perfect for people watching. Upon entry we were greeted by the manager who was very kind to us, asking how our day was and proceeding with general chit chat. This was a delightful surprise and a very refreshing experience when entering a cafe. To have the manager and members of staff making you feel wanted and that no task was to small or large for them. They were polite, interested in helping us and clearly happy. The staff were wonderful in particular Simran the manager. We ordered two cappuccinos and they were freshly made with a real Italian coffee machine and fresh coffee beans. Simran and the rest of the staff are clearly very skilled baristas as on our coffee we were treated to some excellent coffee art. This was in the form of a Swan and a Love Heart which just made our time in cafe Venetian that little more special. The Coffee taste fantastic. We only waited 5 minutes for our food to be bought over. The chicken burgers came looking very well presented with fresh salad in a hot fresh bun. They were delicious and very cheap in price too. As we left the cafe a member of staff opened the door for us and wished us well on our day. Overall a true little gem of a cafe full of wonderful staff and very reasonable prices. I will most certainly be returning and would recommend this cafe to anyone visiting the shopping center

Worst experience ever. Waited 45 minutes for a piece of toast when it eventually came it had egg mayo on the side of! Not good when u have an egg allergy. Staff didn’t have a clue what they was doing and the man behind the counter was very rude!

This place has been going downhill for ages since it changed management. Went for a coffee with my husband and my dad who is in a wheelchair due to a stroke. Staff are usually surly and unhelpful but this one took the biscuit. My dad sneezed and I heard the woman behind the counter say, keep your germs to yourself. My dad sneezed again and blew his nose. When we left she treated us like we had bubonic plague! She was rude, unprofessional and more concerned with being nosey with other people's conversations. I am definitely not going back, there are far nicer coffee shops in Cwmbran

The best Cafe ever. The manger Sally is a lovely lady who had a smile on her face and gave the best customer service ever. I would really recommend this place for a breakfast. Full English breakfast was perfect, and the coffee was made to prefection. I will definitely be returning

I have been to this cafe many times and often order the same items. A breakfast, a bacon sandwich and 2 regular hot drinks. I usually overlook the odd greasy breakfast or dried mushroom. Even the bald headed owner and his arrogant attitude. However, today I ordered 2 bacon sandwiches and 2 regular hot drinks. The owner (at least I think he is) charged me more than I usually pay, which I thought was strange considering I normally buy a breakfast. I did challenge and asked the waitress how much she would charge for a bacon sandwich and at hearing this, the manager abruptly butt in and said it was £3.80. I knew I had been overcharged but decided not to create a fuss. I'm mad with myself for not standing my ground. I can forgive the odd lack of customer service and even cleaning my own table now and again but robbing your customers is literally criminal. Needless to say, you've lost another customer.

We decided to try this cafe after walking passed it a billion and one times on shopping trips to Cwmbran. At first glance it seems lovely but like Royston Vasey, you pick under the layer and find something quite odd. The guy who works at the counter speaks to you like you are interrupting him from something more important. The staff look like they hate life. The miserable lady who serves can’t be bothered to walk to the tables but is happy to meet you halfway and I had to clean my own table! Also the kitchen is very small and yet the staff still manage to shout at each other rather than communicate like normal people. Food is a little under average but on a positive note, you get what you asked for. We have spent 30 minutes here and not one customer has left with a smile on their face! All in all I would spend your money elsewhere.

Manager shouting at staff in front of customers about messy kitchen and having to cook in it! Visibly frustrated about having to make baguettes and jacket for family in front of us, making everyone feel awkward. Very unprofessional and also intimidating for our children!

It appears that the customer is never right at Cafe Venetian. After pondering where to eat, stumbled upon this quaint looking establishment with insatiable appetites, only to be met with terribly rude service, rubbish food and an unhygienic environment.

Went there today, was served by a very grumpy lady! Asked for a cooked breakfast and she mumbled “for good ness sake” when I asked her if this was ok she then replied “IM HOT” Not my problem! Sort you staff out with some manners!

I had a breakfast in the morning which was really fresh and nice and had a really nice coffee and the place was stunning and really clean

This place is terrible. Today we ordered a sausage bap and egg on toast. One female member of staff was ranting about another - swearing openly in the middle of the cafe! There was no customer service, they just shouted when our drinks were ready.

We visited on Sunday 26th May for a late breakfast. On being served at the counter one of the staff was moaning about the colleague serving us. We took our seats to then be asked to re-order 10 minutes later as our food order was lost. This then led to more moaning and squabbling between all 3 staff members that all in the café could here. Following this on loading the drinks fridge there was more moaning and swearing in front of customers as the bottles kept falling over.

Definitely NEVER going to this place again. The man who served us (I think the owner?) was abrupt in taking our order, to the point of impatience. Then we were asked to take a seat and told he'd bring it over to us, so we chose the mezzanine area (an raised area ajoining the hot drink preparation area). We had to use a wet wipe to clean our table (we would have walked out at this point, but we'd already paid for our drinks). Then, when our order was called, instead of being served at our table, our hot coffee was lifted on a tray, over a high wall that separated the kitchen area - EXTREMELY dangerous as I'd ordered a latte, which came in a tall glass... It is pure luck that the drink didn't topple over ....(and result in boiling hot coffee going all over me).

This place is really appalling. We turned up for some tea at around 4 on a Saturday, the place was at least clean. The food however was grim. The lasagne was an Iceland frozen meal (£3 on the box) and they’re charging £6.50. The cottage pie was cooked to near death and was charred around the edges whilst the ‘gravy’ was barely brown and had no flavour at all. The waitress who brought our food to us seemed to have something wet and dripping off of her which I dread to think what it was. She said it was water off the lettuce but the salad was bone dry so I can only imagine what it was and why she tell such a porky-pie. It was only in hindsight that I realised when we had been ordering she arrived in the back door with a bag of meat so maybe that’s what was leaking off her?

we called in for a late cooked breakfast, tables were very dirty and uncleared from previous guests. at the counter, the "Boss" was stood at the counter and totally ignored us. Eventually as waitress took our order she was OK. We sat down and waited for our food, have been told to pay in advance ( in cash) because the card machine was not working. the meal arrived and our daughter took a bite of here hash brown and spat it out! it was frozen!!, we checked ours and they were also frozen. we complained and the "Cook" came and took them off our plates, by hand, and said she would be cooking fresh for us. this she did and they duly arrived about 3 minutes after we had finished our food. in the meantime, a waiter dropped a tray of plates on the floor near us and sprayed us with china and baked beans, another waitress openly coughed all over the counter - not a hand in site! and another table was rudely shown by way of a point, where the cutlery could be found. if we hadn't already paid, we would have left, as it is, we will never be back!

We had lunch here while on shopping trip today. Wish I had looked at hygiene rating first as probably would not go in for a 3 rating. I have to say the food was lovely. Hot and tasted lovely. However after we had ordered food a young man came to clear& "clean" table. Oh my word was mortified when he used his hand and then wiped said hand in apron.We watched as he did it to another table later. We got serviettes and wiped again but if we had seen this first before paying for meal would have left. Shame as the food good.

Popped in here with my mother while on a shopping trip. Had read the negative reviews previously but found ourselves outside and decided to give it a try anyway. I honestly cannot fault our dining experience. Tables were clean, food was fresh and excellent quality (I had egg and chips, Mum had fish and chips). Service was prompt and friendly. Excellent value, will definitely eat here again.

Popped in this morning for a meat free breakfast that wasnt stupidly priced. Lovely piping hot food, the hash browns were lovely and not greasy and the egg was runny. Really really enjoyed it !!!!

Where to start! The lady serving was so rude constantly saying “oh my god” in a huff and puff whilst serving us. Huffed and puffed because 2 of us were ordering for the same table but paying separately. How was she ever going to manage filling out a food order slip for that! Then huffed and puffed and oh my godded it after we asked to change 1 meal. A few more huffs and puffs!

Amazing visit. Attention to detail absolutely brilliant. 100% focus on the customers experience. Lovely fresh food & premises spotless. This is second visit & will be going back. Staff lovely.

Whilst taking a break from shopping we decided to go for a coffee.We chose Cafe Venetian as it looked clean and inviting.My wife chose an Iced Coffee which she enjoyed and I had a decent Black Americano.We decided to share a Cup Cake which was also very tasty.The staff were pleasant and we will return next time we are in Cwmbran.

This small cafe is one of the few I have come across that scrambles eggs in the old fashioned way in a pan not a microwave.

My husband and I called in this cafe with our daughter and granddaughter. My daughter asked the lady serving if they had any high chairs and she just pointed to some high chairs and walked away, so rude. We sat on a small table which was big enough for two people and asked if we could move it next to another small vacant table as our one year old granddaughter would have easily been able to grab any hot coffees on the small table where we sitting. The same lady told us that we couldn't as they needed that (empty) table for customers!!!!!!

I enjoy a simple lunch with a fancy coffee or something like that. Went in here today like another after 15 years of walking past and sincerely wished I hadn't bothered. The food was disgusting no taste, poorly cooked, poorly presented. The dish my mother had was incorrect and the grease visible on both plates was creepy. We left most of both meals and left and I think it is the first time I have never tipped. Hideous, a look around their kitchen would be interesting!!! I think another 15 years plus 40 would be too soon.

Nunca he hecho bien a la izquierda un lugar porque el servicio era muy malo pero salí de este café de hoy. La señora pedidos era increíblemente grosero y actuar como personas que en general un inconveniente. Me volcó accidentalmente sobre mí y mi jugo de la bandeja al punto en que movía sus ojos, arrojaban mi recibo en el jugo de la bandeja y se trasladó a la siguiente persona. Lo único positivo fue que ella me preguntó si quería mi dinero de vuelta antes de irme.

Fuimos a Café Veneciano como mi novia y necesitaba un café rápido y algo para comer. Busqué en lo que tenían en el menú, etc., entonces pedir camarera en el mostrador. Pedí una taza de té, luego cambió de opinión y dijo que conseguiré un batido en su lugar y me dijeron que iban a comprobar si tenían los ingredientes. Mientras que se estaban registrando, la camarera me preguntó si quería el té todavía, me dijo "no té, el batido si tienes" y luego la camarera se puso muy enojado anunciando que pedí té, aunque me dijo que quería el batido en su lugar. Ella parecía muy enojado, en este punto el té no había sido hecho y que no había pagado por él, así que no hay razón para estar loco, especialmente cuando ella era el confundido. Entonces pedí un moka con nuestra orden, accedió, tomó de pago, que parecía barato. Mi novia preguntó si ella había incluido la moka en nuestra orden como ella sólo mencionó que trae el batido cuando fue hecho, y ella parecía bastante enfadado, como si no lo pidió. Empujando jadeando y puffing, añadió y pagamos más a este lugar (no estoy seguro de por qué no). Llegamos a la mesa después de ser tratado bastante grosera. Tarta compramos estaba seco y envuelto en aferrarse de cine. Todo el tiempo acabamos de escuchar sus gritos argumentando y pidiendo personal. En general, no es una experiencia agradable y sin duda no vamos a volver, cansado de este lugar.

Tenía un pelo en el medio de mi comida y cuando señalamos una de las camareras dijo que vaya y hable con alguien que sólo puedo asumir que era la directora. 10 minutos más tarde, cuando regresó me ofrecieron un café gratis. Cómo en la tierra hace que cubren un pelo en mi comida. Absolutamente repugnante. El hombre que sirve detrás del mostrador tenía un vendaje en su brazo manky que era saltos arriba y abajo cada vez que se mueve el brazo. No lo recomendaría. A nice central setting, but, despite fairly competitive prices, I would rather go to Costa and pay the extra. The staff usually miserable as sin and only have one speed, very slow and usually more interested in what everyone else is doing. The decaff coffee...

Not a good experience, we won't be going there again. We ordered two cappuccinos and two toasted teacakes. Had a long wait for the teacakes, had finished our coffee by the time they arrived. When my husband enquired how long they would be, he was told they had been put in the "oven " - and forgotten presumably! Consequently they were barely warm when we got them and decidedly crispy! Very disappointing. Tables were left covered in dirty crockery, only cleared occasionally and never wiped. And they had the air con on, goodness knows why, it was a cold day. Could have done with some WARM air!

It was my first visit and will be my last. The lady who served me didn't speak or smile. I felt as If I was disturbing her. the one who brought my order was no better. I now know why there was only 4 people In there, really bad atmosphere.

Horrible place & would never return! Woman (manager) told me I had a cheek to have been sat outside after having bought a coffee (which was disgusting anyway) whilst eating a packet of my own crisps. Her food prices way too expensive!! Avoid!!!

This is my second visit and my daughter's third. Amazing value, lovely food masterwork presented.Friendly staff ,excellent customer service.

We usually call in for coffee and toasted tea cake when visiting Cwmbran. The staff are friendly and the coffee is good value for money

Had the Guinness pie with chips and peas and also had a large cappuccino, very tasty, would highly recommend. Good prices too and friendly staff, will definitely be returning in the near future. Easily the best cafe in the Cwmbran are in my opinion.

Service is good and always served with a smile, got to know the staff quite well and enjoy visiting. Never feel rushed here. They serve basic food and drinks but that is enough for me, specialty teas and coffee available. They operate a loyalty card so buy 6 drinks and the seventh is free.

Visited this cafe late in the day for coffee and snack after a long day shopping. Though there were some items they were no longer serving due to the time of the day, there was plenty to choose from and we enjoyed cake and coffee at a reasonable price. Usually too busy to get in here so was first time for my daughter and me. Will definitely return.

Another favourite. We always try to sit outside (which is still undercover) so we can people watch whilst eating our lunch. This eatery offers teas and coffees, cakes, soup, sandwiches, jacket potatoes, snacks and cooked meals (the beef lasagne is tasty!). Inside it's clean and tidy and the staff are quick to clear tables, even when the place is full. We find it a bit cramped inside, especially if you have shopping trollies or lots of shopping.

Arrived 12:30 on a Friday and it wasn't too busy. Ordered 4 drinks and 4 items of food. One drink didn't turn up. Because the order pad was too small 2 separate orders were done for the food. Food arrived 20 minutes apart and one of the orders was wrong so food had to go back. Food was a reasonable quality and good presentation. Visited the same place two years ago it was a lot better. Would like to support independent places rather than chains, but this place needs to address its order process and become more efficient.

The other half and I fancied a quick bite to eat and a cuppa after a visit to town. It didn't look too busy (only 3 other customers). My first indication that something wasn't quite right was the lady behind the counter who didn't seem to know what day of the week, or indeed what planet we were on. I asked if they had any juices or smoothies and the reply was "I don't know" Great! If only I'd known it was going to be downhill from there. We ordered a cottage pie with chips and gravy, lassania, a coffee and a mango smoothie (they did have them). The drinks were ok but the food was shocking. Mine was welded to the plate and the other half's cottage pie had been microwaved to oblivion. It would have been less burnt if it had been incinerated in a thermal nuclear explosion! That's despite the fact that said pie was submerged in so much gravy I feared dropping a chip would result in a tsunami of devastating proportions. You would think that this much liquid on a dinner should somehow soften it, but no I watched in horror as he attempted to chip away at his "cottage pie" using the knife as a make shift chisel. In the end he gave up. The bill came to just over £17. Never again.

Microwave meals to the point of cremation may it should be severed with a chisel and hammer would give - stars if possible.

Was so looking forward to having lunch here today, with my little girl, mother and sister. But was a bit dissapointed. There was a man wandering around with a little boy, collecting the dirty dishes and taking them out to the kitchen - still unsure as to who he is - the woman that was serving was forgein - and im not one to be racist or anything - she it was so hard to order as she couldnt understand you and you can not understand her. There was no clean cutlery, i had to wait for cutlery before i could eat my food - by then it was cold. And i found the waiters and waiteresses to be rather rude, pushing us out of the way, ignorning us etc. Wont be visiting again.

Really gone downhill since last visit. Ingredients are cheap and nasty and service is shocking. The only plus was the polite male cook. Another man who seemed to be the owner, in a coat, no apron or whites was drying cutlery which was rank. Gave the impression of poor hygiene and bad management. Staff were overworked and miserable, was shouted at over the cafe to pay immediately for an extra I ordered. I was told politely that there were cameras should I wish to leave without paying!!!!! If only!! Total waste of £20 as most of our food was left and we aren't really fussy! There were tables to be cleared everywhere and the place was dirty. Really wish we'd gone to our usual Rabbiotti's!!!

My second visit to the cafe - the first was just as bad but I let that pass as a bad one off! The ingredients they use are the cheapest of the cheap and the food served can only be described as slop! I wouldn't feed it to my dog! Twice I have ordered chicken and both times been served brown warmish meat - even thought I ordered cold dishes! Can only mean the meat isn't kept refrigerated! The service is just as bad! Over priced and disgusting- do not waste ur money

Not happy with management...no organisation when ordering...payment missed not by any fault of cashier...due to obvious strain cashier was under from poor management I decided to return to the till to make payment...only for the manager to take said cashier out the back for a bollocking...poor manager skills and when confronted brushed off.

A great place to visit on a cold day.We sat in the window and had hot chocolate served with huge marshmallows.A great,casual dining cafe to sit and watch the world go by. Friendly ,helpful staff Nd a lovely atmosphere.

I was not overly impressed with my experience. The cafe's layout is just poor to start, you have to complete an obstacle course to do anything in there! The staff all came off as quite grumpy, and although it was rather busy at the time, basics were lacking, there were no spoons in sight, I had to use a knife to stir my coffee. The food itself was okay, but nothing special, and I would have preferred a "cheese and pickle" baguette as per the menus description, rather than cheese, pickle and salad.

This café is friendly and sells a lovely cup of coffee. There is seating outside which is very pleasant, They also sell great baguettes

Always fancied a visit to the Cafe Venitian so one quiet Tuesday afternoon we popped in for some lunch. I ordered a prawn cocktail baguette and salad and my partner fish & chips with peas and tartar sauce and sat down. The food came out quite quickly and at the same time and tasted lovely. Unfortunately that's were the good stopped. No clean forks available for atleast 10 minutes. My partners tartar never arrived. Then half way through the meal my partner discovered some grated cheese in amongst her food...she is severely allergic to dairy and wasn't very impressed, funny how we was sat by a 'we are allergy aware' sign! Finally having the doors wide open welcomed in quite a few pigeons to roam around your feet looking for scraps. Overall not a great experience. Maybe just a coffee next time
