Cafe Thai in Calderdale

We were asked “Would you like some prawn crackers” when took our drinks order……we assumed they were free…….THEY ARE NOT £4 added for not very many at all, feeling really ripped off!! Every other restaurant would give them for free…especially when THEY offer them. Why offer them when we didn’t ask for them obviously to be deceptive and sneaky upsell? Then when I questioned the bill the waitress sniggered “no they’re not free”. Bad form! Leaves a bad taste in the mouth

This is probably the fourth or fifth visit I’ve had with family and it’s reliably great every time. There was a little confusion with the reservation- I think you need to book ahead and pay a deposit, but they managed to fit us in regardless as it was only half five. As a vegan, I feel that my needs are understood here and although not marked on the menu the kitchen can adapt a fair few of the veggie dishes to satisfy. My particular recommendations for plant based dishes are the mushroom larb (which you rarely see outside of Thailand, let alone a non meat version!) which is genuine issan food! As well as the coconut rice and the tamarind tofu dish. If you’ve always wanted to dabble in tofu but are a bit intimidated, this is a good place to start. I often come here with my 80+ yo grandma and whilst the steep stairs are a little bit challenging, she also enjoys that she can get non-spicy varieties of dishes. A restaurant that caters to all. The price point used to be quite high but everyone else has put them up and this place has stayed the same- making it value for money in 2024! My only request to the owner would be to select a better alcohol free beer, as the San Miguel is awful. Asahi perhaps?

First taste of Thai food but won’t be the last. Great food, welcoming friendly staff. Would definitely recommend. Looking forward to going again soon!

Superb- combines fantastic tapas and equally good Thai food. Combination as in mix and match was fantasitic. We had three tapas between us (a couple) and Tom Yum soup as mains. We have been to many tapas restaurant previously and visited Vietnam but this place really takes some beating. make sure you make a booking to ensure a place.

Had the most amazing meal here last night (17th March). We had the set meal for 2. Such fantastic value, food tasted amazing and the staff are so nice. Its a must visit place when I come and stay with my sister. Best Thai meal ever.

Absolutely brilliant Bottomless Brunch yesterday. Food was delicious and plentiful, service was excellent and Frankie Heart was absolutely ace…she had the place bouncing!!

Cafe Thai never fails, I’ve had bottomless brunches and the early bird menu that have been so tasty. Tonight I’ve had food from the takeaway menu, all I can say again is 100% value for money and full of flavour. We had Chicken Pad Thai plus salt and pepper chips. Pad Kee Mao from the takeaway menu also great value and flavours to die for, highly Recommend. PS. Staff phenomenal when I’ve been for bottomless brunches xx

Had Cafe Thai food both in the restaurant and take away many times but our most recent take away warranted a review. It was absolutely delicious! All the specials! Bit of a greed and expensive treat but worth every penny! Can’t fault the food, every mouthful was amazing. Well done!

Absolutely great place to go for some high quality Thai food. We had the early bird set meal and it was both delicious and great for value. The staff were lovely and compliments in particular to the manager who was friendly and lovely to speak with. Definitely going again!

This is an incredible restaurant- food incredible- value incredible and staff absolutely incredible. The Bottomless Brunch is the best on offer. A choice of set menus that is varied and high quality and waitresses that absolutely put the customer first and ensure that you get value. Put simple this is the best of the best!!

First time visiting this restaurant with 6 friends. We all had something from the menu which was Tapas style so wehad a broad representation of what was on offer. This is undoubtedly the best Thai food I have ever had and that includes Thailand itself. Not only was the food superb but the service was excellent as well. Terrible table service, staff not knowing what’s going on. Table sat in the middle of the kitchen and bar which means being sat in a group of people stood up shoulder to shoulder waiting to be seated (during Covid too, not ideal). Would avoid ordering...

Pre booked table for five arrived and seated at a four seater table with an extra chaired shoved on the end making everything very squashedTook 15 mins before drinks order takenThen another protracted amount time before taking food order When food arrived no individual plates so had to ask for those and when they arrived they were saucers not plates Also no knives Was not asked during meal if wanted another drink it was almost like couldn't be bothered We wondered if did dessert but couldn't catch a waitress and not asked so again after length of time just asked for the bill When voiced concerns to man whom appeared to be manager a waitress ( who was not actually serving our table) interjected with words " can I stop you there that is not the case at all"Well yes love it was the case and first rule customer service is to be humble apologise and don't answer back or argue Was very rude The food however was lovely and enjoyed by the whole group but the atmosphere and lack of customer experience let it all down None of our group will be returning

Nice place, charming staff. The idea of Thai tapas didn't really work for us. The food was delicious but pretty much every thing came serially: I had eaten my grilled prawns before my first companion's satay chicken arrived, and she had nearly finished that before companion #2's spring rolls showed up. Next came the sticky rice which we had nearly eaten before the curry came. It could all have come at once, especially as this was Monday evening and we were three of only nine customers present. I know Thais don't serve starters and main courses but do we need to get one dish at a time on a quiet evening?

Can’t believe we had a confirmed booking for 18 people for a very special occasion. Arrived to be told they only had 10 places available, what a joke. We can’t repeat the special occasion so will definitely NOT be going there ever again.

Since cafe Thai & Thai tapas have merged into the same area I’m disappointed with the little things I used to love about cafe Thai. The food was still lovely and the service was also good however the more slightly disappointing aspects are as follows;1) no prawn crackers on table on arrival - this was a nice gesture!! 2) no more early bird menu?!?! very disappointed as this was fantastic!3) small number of dishes carried up from cafe Thai for example prawn toast etc. Only really the curries and a small selection of stir fries that have been taken to the new combined menu :( 4) chips are now french fries :| !5) everything from what was ‘cafe Thai’ seems to have gone up in price but hasn’t got any bigger in size and actually seemed smaller :( I just hope the takeaway menu doesn’t change!!!

Been regular visitors to the restaurant for quite a while now and always found the food fantastic. We have been to the tapas place once before and thought it Ok but much preferred the restaurant. Visited the new combined tapas/restaurant offering last week and we were quite disappointed. The food just wasn't as good and even though we were told many of the restaurant dishes were on the new menu everything we used to order wasn't. One of our restaurant highlights was the special ribs, slightly spicy with peppers, onions etc- we have even ordered to takeaway for friends to try as they were so fab. Really didn't enjoy the ribs on the new menu - lovely and tender but no spice just in a satay style sauce - not for us. Other dishes were just Ok. So for us I think may be time to find a new Thai restaurant I am sorry to say as we loved the old place.

Service was excellent and ordered several dishes to share, all of great quality. Also ordered Takeaway and this was brilliant too.

First time dining here tonight. The chef missed some of our dishes meaning some of our friends had to wait longer for their starters. Food was OK the starter I had was super greasy and looked more like Hallomi Toast than prawn toast all I could taste was grease. I ordered extras for my main but only one of the extras came with it, I didn't complain just ate it and I wasn't charged for it. It all seemed a bit confused and from what I saw alot of the food was cooked by the busiest working microwave I've ever seen, lots of microwaving was going on.I haven't eaten at many Thai places but I have eaten at the one in Halifax Market which imo is much nicer than this. My friend who eats more Thai than me said he won't be back. The service was OK, the food wasn't anything to rave about but they're good prices.

Early bird menu, which was all really good value and the portions were huge. Main reason for the 3 stars is the sweetness. Each main dish was far too sweet (and I like sweet).Shame as everything was cooked perfectly but the balance was way way off, to the point where we left most of the mains. Staff were superb! Great team

We were taken to Cafe Thai by a friend, the food was amazing and the portions generous service was quick and the food hot, the restaurant is tastefully decorated and comfortable, I would definitively visit again .

A wonderful little find in the heart of West Vale. We stumbled upon this place by accident and have since returned 3 times. Each time it has wowed. Serving up Fabulous food, excellent service & cracking value for money. Would highly recommend a visit for something a bit different to the norm.

It’s absolutely incredible, has a sophisticated atmosphere and flavourful dishes. The combination of dishes in the tapas give a tremendous burst of new exotic flavours. My personal favourite dish is the Pad Thai. My only complaints is that the restaurant is extremely poplar making it incredibly busy and booking about a week in advance is necessary- this is due to the amazing food offered there. Another issue is they sometimes bring the tapas food out to fast and although the food will go cold it shows a very efficient kitchen. The staff are friendly and happy to have a chat. That’s why I rate this restaurant 4.8 stars ⭐️

We had spare ribs and tempura vegetables to start, very good, tasty and fresh. Followed by Thai Green chicken curry always excellent, Pad Khing with prawns. Both were very good, service as always very pleasant.

Food was ok but not exceptional, restaurant is very noisy and drafty if you sit anywhere near the door, but staff were very friendly and attentive.

Just been for a family meal here to celebrate my son's 5th birthday. Service was great, the staff went the extra mile to look after the children. Food was amazing, I had ped Makam and the duck was cooked perfectly. All in all a great experience.

Sad to say this cos I've reviewed before & given it a glowing report. And it's not often I do negative reviews, but our visit the other night was garbage. We went a couple of months ago & I didn't enjoy my food, a drink was forgotten & the bill was wrong but I just thought everywhere has off nights. But this week I actually wondered if it had changed ownership & the staff were on notice. Not interested is how I'd describe them. We waited ages for our order to be taken & had to prompt them. The table was sticky. We sat for ages with empty drinks glasses during the meal. There were 5 tables in, by the way, then 3, then just us by 9pm. My daughter's food was brought out barely luke warm. Mine - the potatoes needed cooking longer. I had to ask for a knife (why put just spoons & forks out? I'm not going to force a large piece of potato in my mouth just cos I have no knife, & trust me, the fork sideways would not have got through these bad boys). We asked for more rice, it was forgotten. Then something that really winds me up in restaurants - cleaning the table next to you while you're eating, with a strong smelling cleaning product. I wanted to complain while we were there but my daughter begged me not to & we actually fell out about it. Night pretty much ruined cos of awful service.

Having lived in Thailand I've always raced about this being the best Thai food I've had in this country. I hadn't been for a while and I was extremely disappointed. The service was slapdash and the food was dreadful. My partner had Pad Prew Wan the flavour of which was drowned by fish sauce. Not a pleasant experience when you're eating chicken.

I must say iv only been here once but I wil be returning I absolutely love Asian cuisine my favourite was the sticky rice

I went to Cafe Thai to celebrate the 40th birthday of my brother and sister, they chose the venue, and as I never eat "Chinese food" I was a little dubious and did not know what to expect from Thai cuisine. Well, what a fantastic meal we all had! Beautiful food, a lovely place, and very helpful staff.

Having been recommended went at 6 pm on Friday greeted by a waiter who said he had a table only to be told only one chair.The waitress came over then and said we have no space we suggested the place had spare chairs but informed taken. The whole experience was very poor customer service and I and my friend very disappointed.

It’s our first visit after lots of recommendations. We were not disappointed. The food is so fresh and tasty. We will be back. Lovely welcoming and friendly staff too.

I can't review the food. We didn't eat. We went at 5pm we hadn't booked but I live 3 doors away so just popped in with my 11yr old and my mum to celebrate the end of exams.

This is fast becoming our favourite place to eat! I’ve been time after time and the quality and flavour has never in question. Very clean and full kitchen on view where you can see the chefs cooking and working extremely hard! Highly recommend the seabass and chicken skewers with peanut butter sauce! Just amazing, I don’t think I’ll ever be able to get enough of my favourite dishes here. Ive been 3 times within 2 weeks and anyone I’ve taken with me have complimented every dish they have tried! Fab!

We returned for a family birthday celebration and they excelled themselves again. The attention to detail is superb as is the food and service.

The food is absolutely amazing the closest tasting to Thailand I’ve ever had... the staff are friendly, welcoming and efficient.

15 of us visited for work meal. I was told at the time of booking that as it was a large table they would need to take my card number and I would be charged £5 for every person who did not turn up so I made sure I got a deposit which was a bit of a pain.

For the first time it’s a review in 2 halves. Why? Two of the meals were served between tepid and cold. However, they agreed to re-cook them not just reheat them but of course our dining companions and eaten most of their meal. They gave us 10% discount which is just about ok?

This used to be our favourite Thai, however haven't been for a while following a not so good meal last time. Visited yesterday evening for tea, and whilst streets ahead of our previous visit, I am afraid it has lost the wow factor. The food was okay, but no better. The service is friendly but haphazard. Nice interior and a good atmosphere but it is the food you go for. Hope it can get back to it's best.

We utilised the take away service to be informed it would be 45 min which is acceptable enough however 90 min later I contacted them to be informed all deliveries have been sent out 20 min ago, we live literally 2.7 mile away, it has now arrived and is absolutely freezing I don’t mean tepid, we have had to re heat the lot, and yet we still tipped the delivery driver. You should be ashamed.

We came here for a family meal as we have done many times before and unfortunately we were very disappointed. The food was tasteless and the meat was tough as an old boot. Also the beer was flat. It seems there is not many of the old staff there anymore and a lot of new faces. I am sad to say we won’t be returning again.

This is a nice little restaurant with friendly staff and good service. There is a decent selection of starters and mains, but the choice of desserts was a little disappointing. They didn’t have many left from the menu and the cheesecakes they did have were very sweet and sort of tainted the meal a bit to be honest. They should really have a children’s menu because our 7 year old struggled to find anything suitable and what she did have wasn’t really to her taste. The food itself was well cooked and tasty and not too expensive. Nice range of drinks available.

Have in the past really enjoyed foot at Cafe Thai and also used the take away lots but recent visit proves that the standards have dropped. Poor service and food cold. Have just found out that at last inspection on 16th October they received a food hygiene rating of 1 which maybe explains things. Certainly will not be visiting again based on this rating.

Had a great family meal at Cafe Thai, I was suprised that we got in as I had only booked on the day and had places, normally it booked up in advance. Everyone enjoyed it, will be returning.

I've been here a couple of times with friends so was pleased to have a return visit. We chose a wide range of dishes all of which were freshly cooked and served by their hard working friendly staff. I'd like to bake particular mention of the 'young' man who served our table. I'm not sure how old he was but WOW he was amazing...professional, courteous and totally focussed.

We use to live in Greetland so visited Cafe Thai once a month, but having moved out of the area we haven’t been for a few months.... however I have to say it’s gone down hill. On arrival there was a waiter showing people to their tables, he had Nike tracksuit bottoms and a sports top on. Not very professional! Our order was taken on an tablet then ten minutes later she came back over to say that it hadn’t gone through, so had to take it all again. I asked for no peppers and the lady said that everything was pre made so they could only pick them out - surly a stir fry is made to order with the ingredients that the customer wants? After another five minutes she then came back over to see if I wanted beef or chicken then came back over to ask if both main were without peppers. Four times to take an order for two people? Shoddy! Then had to cheek to charge us £2 for some prawn crackers. Won’t be rushing back!

This has to be the very best Thai food we've ever eaten and then some. The food here is absolutely exquisite and the service is superb. We were treated really well from start to finish.

Absolutely crap. Don’t normally leave reviews but felt I had to. Clueless staff. Bang average meal. Ran out of rice! That’s right, a Thai restaurant which ran out of rice. In fact my meal was cold by the time by rice arrived. Then the bill was wrong.

I ordered my meal (I always have the same thing) but for some reason the Thai waitress persuaded me to have a thicker sauce than usual. Naturally I assumed it would be my usual meal just with a thicker sauce. I was served up a thick Thai sauce with tofu and absolutely no vegetables at all. It was all spread out on a plate (not in a bowl) and looked a complete mess. It had to be the most bland meal I have ever eaten. A plate full of sauce!

Heard some very good reports about this place and wanted to visit for some time. Eventually visited here one Saturday night after a 6 week wait for a table for 7. I like this place it is rather cramped & busy, but if you are not busy on a Saturday evening you never will be. The place is very smart and clean, the staff are very friendly and helpful.

I booked a table for two via phone on Wed 22/8/18 for the following Saturday 25/8/18.

Four of us visited here last weekend. We had been before many months ago and were not that impressed. However, our meals were very tasty and arrived in good time. As the menu is very long we decided on the set meal for 4 and each dish was very good and an ample amount served. All in all a lovely evening with great food,

I thought I'd booked the Tapas restaurant but arrived to find it closed on a Tuesday. I was disappointed that we ended up at the restaurant instead but was soon very impressed. The service was efficient and friendly. The menu has been extended since I last went and not only was there more choice but it all seemed tastier than previously as well. Washed down by a delightful Sauvignon Blanc, but sadly we couldn't finish everything as the portions were very generous. And when the bill came it all seemed very reasonable indeed. I'll definitely be going again sometime.

We visited this evening for mums birthday. There was 11 of us. Atmosphere good and full. They delivered our starters all at different times, which was not great but 30 mins apart not great! Main course came all at different times! Again from start to finish 30 mins??! When I was eating I realised my brother and nephew had not been served. When I asked them their attitude was terrible! They then appeared with food for them that they didn’t order! At this time the whole party had eaten. So my brother and nephew decided not to have their main course as it was my mums birthday didn’t want to make it uneasy. I at this time complained. The lady I complained to didn’t care less. I complained to another person who clearly wasn’t interested!! When we got the bill we had been charged for the meals that didn’t come!! All the staff could say was, no problem I will knock these off the bill!!!!??? Honestly I never complain!! Read my reviews all fab as I don’t do moaning!! Honestly the customer service here is non existent!! If you want to be looked after please Avoid!!!! Never go back or recommend. If their customer service was better and they had dealt with it better perhaps! Apparently their managers as there but outside smoking!! Great experience!!! Not!!

Visited in march with friends for a birthday celebration. It is a well designed area with some lively touches but dusappointed with the sirloin i ordered. It was more like a strak canadian only smaller and arrived very well dine when i ordered rare. Very squashed up seating area too. Hard to get away from the table without disturbing others and elbows crashing as we ate. Very popular place so maybe i just hit it on a wrong day.

Went here with friends for birthday celebrations. Had been previously but I wasn't very impressed...especially as I went home hungry! This time I spent a little more time looking at the menu, reading it properly....I would recommend spending a bit more time doing this rather than rushing to order. Huge choice on the menu including lots of choice for vegetarians. Efficient and courteous service. Food arrived in intervals, all of which was fresh avd really tasty...I had prawns with coriander and mango...gorgeous!everyone on our table enjoyed their food.

Every course was flawlessly delicious. Particularly loved the massaman curry and the coconut ice cream. Unfortunately the great food was not paralleled with the service - there weren’t many tables in but we felt forgotten about for most of the meal - it took way too long for them to clear our plates and at one point they came to ask if our starters were okay and then walked away and didn’t clear them even though we were clearly finished! And at the end of the meal after twiddling our thumbs with money on the table for ages we ended up having to get up to ask for the bill even though there was only one table left other than us so we shouldn’t have gone unnoticed at all. The staff were clearly waiting for us to leave after we’d payed the bill (we were waiting for our taxi) because we were the last table in and we felt the pressure even though it was half an hour before closing time. The fact that the service was so bad but I’m still happy to give four stars says a lot about how good the food was!!!! Will definitely be ordering takeaways in the future!

Sunny afternoon and couldn't be bothered cooking so over to cafe thai for tea. And very nice it was too. Been a couple of times now, and always spot on. Great food -The Plah Goong and red curry prawn were todays stand out dishes - friendly staff, comfy surroundings. Even some good music playing in the background. Give it a try.

We ordered take away and we were terribly disappointed.The Barque ribs were tasteless and slimy, the Pad Thai was also very bland and the green curry, which is my favourite Thai dish that I have enjoyed in many Thai restaurants was so ridiculously hot we could not eat it. Needless to say we will not be getting take away from there again

Had tea here before cinema trip with teenage kids. Friendly, good value and nice food. Staff friendly and helpful. Would go back for a tea again. Casual and nice food. Might try the tapas place next time.

After hearing lots of amazing reviews for Cafe Thai I finally decided to go and it did not live up to expectations. I had a beef salad and my only advice is to not have the beef salad. I am not a fussy eater but on reflection I should have been more discerning and asked what each dish involves before ordering it. The menu description of a beef and lime salad with noodles is most definitely deceiving when I received lettuce leaf covered mince beef with strange clear noodles. Although I appreciate this could be very well traditional Thai food I think the descriptions could be more clear especially when the waitress told me after I had left all the food that people do generally hate or love this dish! The waitress proceeded to tell me to order something else although I declined this offer as I refuse to pay for a further meal that I could equally dislike.

I’d been wanting to eat here for a while. I’ve travelled right across Thailand and eaten in a number of Thai restaurants over here, so I always like to try somewhere new to me. It’s a really nicely designed place and the food was great. BUT the European waitress is more than blunt; she’s rude and arrogant. I’ve read other reviews that complain about her. She is letting your business down, you should give her some hospitality training.
