As a regular customer at this place we went on Saturday to eat. It was a very busy day and the restaurant was full so the food did take time to come. Customer service was great even though it was busy. Didn't compromise on service or quality of food. The food was delicious as always even though we had to wait. My go to local Indian curry house

I want to start by saying we love the food here and if you have the time, it is well worth it. But if you are in a rush (or have kids) the service is just far too slow. It took over an hour for the starters to come out and we were still waiting for mains 2 hours after arriving. While we waited takeaway order after takeaway order flew out. Honestly do not understand why the priority seems so heavily pushed towards the takeaways. It is a shame because as I say we love the food but we will not be coming back. We also felt that the staff were not attentive and did not ever ask regarding how we were or whether we wanted anything (drinks?). Improvement is needed as everyone in our group was fed up by the end.

I'm surprised at the bad reviews for Cafe Saffron as I went for a meal there last night and the Butter Chicken was the best curry I've ever had and the cheese Naan was lovely too!Yes it was quiet however I don't think that was necessarily a bad thing and didn't effect my dining at all.Would definitely recommend and plan to return.

As the description says! Poor food, would liken it to a no frills micro curry. Beer was bad and tasted sickly and the service was none existent. Naan bread was ok. Worst thing was that it was busy and I can only put this down to lack of competition, we weren't the only ones complaining. A real shame.

As locals, I really wanted to be singing the praises of this restaurant as it would be great to have a good Indian on the doorstep but this place is dire. Both curries we ordered tasted heavily of curry powder and were pretty much the same sauce. One was a balti but there wasn't a tomato in sight and the chicken tikka requested came as just plain chicken. I've tasted better curries from a ready made jar. This was curry powder, water, chicken and a few chillis thrown in. An insult to our intelligence and the poorest meal we've ever eaten out- not a hint of authenticity about it at all. Watching the staff pour the pints of Cobra behind the bar was a joke- every one was done three or four times because the head was so big so service took forever while each glass settled and was topped up time and time again. The service was dismal, no smiles, no pleasantries, no checking food was ok (presumably they're fed up of people saying no!)The trays that get brought to the table to keep the plates warm have sections of garden hose slipped over the legs - that about sums up the owners' approach to standards at this restaurant. Turns out it has one star out of five from the council's environmental health, how it stays in business is beyond me- probably the lack of any local completion as its not because of its food, soulless interior or miserable staff. You'll see from my other reviews I'm not in the habit of pouring criticism on places as I think bad reviews can be damaging. But id rather see somewhere close than keep taking people's hard earned money in exchange for rubbish.

Dined here for first time in a while a few months ago and was not to badReturned to 19 /7 /2016 on my way from having scan, as a pick me up. Had to return husbands drink particles in beer which then settled into pile in bottom of glass this was changed and was fine. But our meal was nothing more than very dry overcooked meat in what can only be described as a curry soup, and probably 6 pieces each which were very small.as it was hottest day and tired from scan and already complaining about drink we just paid. But strange arrangement with staff should have given me warning signs. Heard girls who may have been related to waiter asking other and only customers to like restaurant on facebook and would get discount next time.when we left they were in car playing on mobiles .

Interesting one this- nothing wrong with Cafe Saffron, but nothing to set it apart from numerous others- Service was reasonable, if a tad on the slow side (there were only 4 customers in). Nargis kebab starter was of a good standard. My mixed bhuna main course was very good, however my friend's chicken laziz was very poorly executed- i have a sweet tooth, but this was ridulous- sickly with almond and coconut and no other flavour to balance the dish. Everyting else was OK- rice, very nice cheese nan and drinks all hit the mark. in summing up- COULD DO BETTER!

Our group of 6 had an enjoyable dinner at Cafe Saffron to celebrate my husband's birthday. Service was prompt and most of our dishes were cooked to an average standard. However, this restaurant could have done better, especially the local clientele in Codsall would expect higher standards with growing competition from other local eateries.

If you check on ratemyplace website the local authority have give this a hygiene rating of 1 out of 5. No soap in the kitchen for the chefs to wash their hands! Not sure if this has improved but looks like their standards have already been set.

Had arranged to meet a large group of colleagues for a curry in Codsall and had booked a table at the Raj Put. However between booking the table and arriving the Raj Put seems to have gone out of business. Thankfully cafe Saffron is just around the corner and they were able to fit 19 of us in at very short notice. The service was very efficient, considering they weren't expecting such a large group to turn up. The food was served fairly promptly. The food was tasty, however in my opinion relied too much on chilli heat rather than using different spices to build up layers of flavour.

Visited this restaurant for the first time with a group of friends, some of whom had visited previously. I have eaten at a number of similar restaurants and to be honest have never had a bad meal, the Cafe Saffron for me served an average type of meal, nothing wrong with it but then again nothing stand out.The prices seemed towards the high end and there was very little staff/customer interaction, apart from when the waiter leaned across us/others a couple of times! The restaurant 'ticked' over in terms of customers but went a bit quiet towards the tail end of the evening.Overall not a bad experience, the food was good and I would certainly suggest that peple try it and I would imagine it has quite a local customer base, it just seems a little too pricey.

This was my first visit to Cafe Saffron and will definitely go back when in the area. It's a small restaurant nicely decorated. The menu has a special Mondays and Tuesday's for £10.95. On a Wednesday and Thursday you can take your own drinks. We visited on a Wednesday, so took our own alcohol although the restaurant is licenced. The menu is huge with a great selection of starters and mains. We all had a different curry and they were hot, plentiful and full of meat. The rice and naan bread were also excellent. All 4 of us had dessert too. The bill was £63 for 4 of us. Not bad at all for the quality of the food.Only down side was only 2 other people in there although they seemed to do several takeaways. The staff are lovely, polite and attentive but never intrusive. A very good curry, highly recommended.

We cycle past Cafe Saffron at least 4 times a week. The fragrant smells that come from this place are unbelievable. The wife & I decided to go and pay a visit, were so glad we did. The staff were very pleasent and attentive towards the customers. The food is amazing, taste buds explode with different flavours and spices. Being a chef I'm always a bit sceptical of trying new places, food standards and quality of dishes, but I'm so glad I did. I'm really fussy with my food and these guys did very well!! I had a dish which came with a bhuna sauce where I wanted something a bit more spicy, that was no problem what so ever to the staff. We will definitely come back here again, not easy to find a really good Indian food establishment, but we have here. Well done Cafe Saffron..

Prices were slightly less than our normal curry house. Only negative was the service/staff were on the slow side ( got my own dessert menu in the end couldn't wait after 15 minutes of table being cleared of main meals, place was quiet so no excuses). I have only ever had takeaways from Cafe Saffron, although I've always gone in to the restaurant to pick the food up. The food is excellent quality. The curries have a nice level of spice that enhance the food, not overpower it. Portions are reasonable but could do with a bit more meat in with the sauce. I took the family to this restaurant not too long ago, it was honestly amazing! It's the best place to visit with your family. It's very comfortable and has a homely feel to it. The prices are very reasonably, I think they are really cheap. I was honestly shocked when I seen the menu. The amount of food they give for the price you pay is amazing, it very filling. Let's get on to the food now...DESLICIOUS, AMAZING, FANTASTIC!!! Honestly like words do not do the food justice. It was heavenly. The chef makes the best chicken biryani and omg the prawn purée, it's got to be my fav dish! The foods just excellent. The whole family loved the food! I don't think iv tasted food this good at any Indian restaurant!!!!Now for the service;. It was extremely good! The staff are very fast and attentive. Any time I or the family needed something there was always someone there to bring it for us. Whilst waiting for my take away (which I'd just ordered), they welcomed me in and gave me a drink whilst I waited. You can't pay with card under £10, but as I had not known that before, the waiter allowed me to. I even got some freebies in my curry, and he opened the doors for me! The bathroom is a little cold, and the towel/sheets aren't exactly effective, but great curry otherwise.

I would not recommend this place to my worst enemy the service was rediculace we was told there was an hours wait after that it continued to wait from 10 minutes to another 7 minuts so we eventually got our meal an hour and thirty five minutes later. when we asked numerous time to speak to the manager we was told he was busy ( well hello as customers we are important ) the food we received was cold and not very impressive having visited other curry houses in the area. The rudeness from the waiter taking our complaint was unbelievable as he managed fine speaking English taking our order but when dealing with our attempt to complain forgot how to speak English.

Having been visiting the Saffron with family and friends since it first opened i can say without any shadow of a doubt the service that they offer has diminished recently. The service and the curries that they have provided over the years have been great. Convenient for people who live in the village as it so central and generally i have never had a moan about the place. Having said this i do believe the lack of a top quality service is actually taking away from the great food they offer. The last two times i have eaten in the saffron have been lacking in any atmosphere at all due to no customers being in eating. This is nothing to do with food quality or value i can assure you.Great as a takeaway but could really improve as a dining experience recently.

Visited a few days ago for a small family celebration, and - while the food was excellent - I felt the room to be a bit impersonal. As I say, the food was great - I ordered a Chicken Tikka Madras with a Keema Naan and it came through in exactly the right quantity (not too much, enough to fill a hungry tummy), with exactly the right spicing (some places treat Madras as a challenge to see how quickly you'll melt into a puddle). Starter was a nice, standard piece of Tandoori Chicken (breast + wing - bone in), and they were fast with the drinks - which is always a bonus. My only real issue is that the room is a bit impersonal. I think it has to do with the floor not being carpeted, and the fact that it is an open plan dining room. There were 3 or 4 parties in when we dined making the room half-full, but it felt like there was no-one there. Admittedly, that may not be an issue for other patrons, and to be honest it wouldn't stop me from visiting again because the food was good.So in short, I'd recommend the place. The food is marvellous, but personally I might be more inclined to have a take-away than to sit in.

We decided last minute to visit Cafe Saffron after rave reviews from my family. Upon arriving we were served by a very friendly staff member. There was a great choice on the menu, with many of the choices being left out in other curry houses. This was great news as this meant that I was able to try a new curry which was delicious. Also I had my regular starter which is chicken chat and it is the best I have ever had, and I have been to many different curry houses over my life. For desert me and my girlfriend had an eastern delight which was a lovely end to a delicious three course meal. The waiter who was on shift was very attentive and nice to talk too. It is a good place to go if you want to be able to talk as the music is not on very loud, so it acts as quite nice background noise. This evening was very good value for money which was a nice feeling when the bill arrived.

I live locally and haven’t had a takeaway from here for a couple of years. Sorry to say I won’t be going back for years again. It was a Saturday night treat, just short of £35 to share a basic starter, 2 main curries and share a garlic nan. The Lamb parcel starters were inedible (the one mouthful I had was spat out). The Special Mix Curry was tasty but just 1 piece of lamb, 1 piece of prawn and 2 bits of chicken. The Bombay Surprise was marginally better. The Garlic Naan was lukewarm, although to be honest they never travel well for a takeaway. For the first time ever, from any Indian takeaway when spending that sort of money, no complimentary items, not even papadoms. As I was waiting for the food, I looked at the Xmas Day menu and was wondering whether that might be a thought. Sorry No…. Bah humbug and all that.
