this place is ABSOLUTELY delicious! my BF and I will go here for a special breakfast every once in a while and we are always so pleased with the extremely high quality vs. reasonable price. we have agreed that the banana foster french toast may be the best in Portland ʕ•ᴥ•ʔ I call in and get the harvest breakfast burrito to go all the time -- I'm allergic to quinoa (weird, I know) and they are so accommodating in switching it up for me, which I'm so grateful for. my man gets the regular breakfast burrito and it's INCREDIBLE. they're huge! the sauce is hellishly good. my only gripe is that I wish someone would plant some trees next to the bus stop on CC so that the restaurant looks as inviting from the drab intersection (not even their fault). at least the parking lot is cute! feels like a different world compared to the other side. I lied, my other gripe is that it isn't open every day!!! don't worry y'all I get why on the macro but ON THE MICRO ༼ つ ಥ_ಥ ༽つ

The best elevated brunch food and drinks for a fair price. Spencer is always so genuine, kind, and inviting and has trained his staff to treat customers the same way (shout out to AJ for his hospitality today) . Everything on the menu is incredible. Especially the crab eggs Bennie, the burritos, bananas foster French toast, and the mushroom toast. We try to get something new every time we come in and always leave feeling satisfied. Also the music is always sooo good I need this Spotify playlist haha.

So much to say about this awesome restaurant! My wife and I have been coming here since Spring 2020 and it is always an incredible dining experience. I've tried every item on the brunch menu (love everything) and we've had three or four of the winemaker dinners and each of those has been an absolute treat. The food is always top-notch, as is the service. Spencer is a killer chef and he takes a lot of pride not only in his food, but also in how his restaurant is run. All of the staff are great and every time I'm in for a meal, I feel very much at home. I can't recommend Cafe Rowan highly enough.

This place is such a gem. Outside of being an amazing spot for the neighborhood it’s one of the top spots in Portland for a great meal. I don’t want to comment on how many lobster rolls that I can eat, but it’s a lot, mostly because they are the best I’ve ever had and nothing to do with my lack of self control. Staff here is always welcoming and thoughtful. They do dinners where they work with other local chefs and serve some amazing dishes which reflects their love for what they do. We’re lucky to have Cafe Rowan in Portland and those that live within walking distance are even luckier!

Spencer and his crew are always fantastic! The food and service are both outstanding! And Spencer does such a great job of supporting local farms, etc. to support our communities to add the freshest ingredients to his regular menu and daily specials. I appreciate everything Cafe Rowan tries to do! In response to a review of Cafe Rowan from a few months ago: The review of the service is completely wrong. This is Portland. We help each other out. We have several “please bus your own dishes” restaurants that are fantastic! A little help from patrons to support local restaurants by bussing your own dishes into a provided bin goes a long way. It helps keep staffing costs lower; not to mention it takes only a few moments of your time, and it provides a little exercise which is a good thing after indulging in all the delicious food you just consumed! Cheers to Cafe Rowan!

Cafe’ Rowan is about 20 min away from PDX airport. It looks as if it’s a local hangout but there were also a mixture of different people there. There was a family with a small toddler next to us as well as a meeting in front of us and we were just hungry and my husband needed wifi to work. The greeter was friendly. We didn’t make a reservations but got a table which is great as I noticed some reservations placards on some tables. The concept was a little odd. You sit, look at the menu, and order at the register. Your food gets delivered to your table but you have to get up to go get your drinks. Our food came in before our drinks. I usually like my drinks before my meal comes. They didn’t get one of our drinks correctly but I took a star off not because of that…. Because the music they played in the cafe did not match their brand. It was loud club music. I didn’t understand because it was clearly too loud for the meetings and type of people that were there. FOOD was yummy though. I had the Dungeness crab Benedict and a side of grandmas grits with all the toppings. We were fighting over the grits. We green kale bowl for my pescatarian daughter and birria ranchero bowl was what my brother had. Those bowls have plenty of food and they were delicious. It’s shareable. The Benedict is not so good thing I got some grits one the side. We got Matcha tea latte hot with oatmilk, Cuban coffee, and a matcha tea latte iced with lavender. The drink selection was great! Go here!!! Just find sit next to the speakers if you want to be able to hear what your lunch date is saying lol

The food was amazing. I just wish their was more, especially since you're paying that much for it. Plus, ordering up at the counter and paying instead of having a server take care of you kind of defeats the purpose of eating out since you pretty much take out the whole experience that way. The atmosphere was good overall, especially the decor/ layout. I just wish it was bigger in general.

I had the ham benedict and it was delicious. The potatoes had a bit of a tomato-soaked taste under the eggs and ham and they were pretty delicious. My partner had the bananas foster French toast and enjoyed his meal too. The espresso was tasty. The person at the register wasn’t too friendly but the host was nice. The only thing I really didn’t like was the line running through the middle of the seating area (it was busy).

Here's an updated version including the parking detail: --- I recently visited Cafe Rowan and had such a delightful experience! Their menu offers a great mix of options, and I was especially excited to try a couple of their specialties. First off, I had the Mushroom Toast, which is fully vegan and so tasty! The earthy flavors of the mushrooms were perfectly complemented by the crispy toast, and the seasoning was spot on. It’s a great plant-based option that doesn’t compromise on flavor. But what really caught my attention was their Lobster Day, which happens every Wednesday and Thursday. For $20, you get a lobster roll paired with a glass of mimosa—how fun is that? The lobster roll was fresh and buttery, and the mimosa was a refreshing bonus. I will say, the portions are on the smaller side, especially for the price, but the quality more than makes up for it. Another plus is the easy parking! There’s a convenient lot right next to the cafe, making it hassle-free to stop by, even on a busy day. Overall, the food was great, the atmosphere cozy, and the service friendly. If you’re in the mood for some unique bites and a mid-week lobster treat, I definitely recommend giving Cafe Rowan a try!

Cafe Rowan - A Brunch Experience Like No Other MAINE LOBSTER FANS THIS PLACE IS FOR YOU!! I recently had the pleasure of visiting Cafe Rowan for brunch, and I can confidently say it was one of the most memorable dining experiences I’ve ever had. From the moment we walked through the door, we were greeted by a warm and welcoming atmosphere that set the tone for what would be an exceptional meal. This was my first time trying grits, and I couldn’t have chosen a better introduction to this classic dish. The Maine lobster and grits served at Cafe Rowan were nothing short of extraordinary. The grits were creamy, rich, and perfectly seasoned, providing the ideal canvas for the tender, succulent lobster that topped the dish. Each bite was a perfect balance of flavors and textures that left me savoring every moment. I’ve had many meals in my life, but this one truly stood out as one of the best. But the food was only part of what made our experience so special. The staff at Cafe Rowan went above and beyond to ensure our visit was perfect. They greeted us with genuine smiles and immediately inquired if it was our first time dining with them. Upon learning that it was, they enthusiastically recommended dishes and specials that would give us the full Cafe Rowan experience. Their passion for the food and the care they took in guiding us through the menu was truly remarkable. It felt like we were being treated as old friends, not just customers. The ambiance of Cafe Rowan is equally worth mentioning. The cozy yet stylish decor made us feel right at home while still giving off a vibe of sophistication. Whether you’re seated by the windows enjoying the natural light or nestled in a corner booth, the atmosphere is perfect for a relaxed, leisurely brunch. We will definitely be returning to Cafe Rowan for brunch, and I can’t wait to explore more of their menu. If you’re looking for a place that offers not just incredible food, but an experience filled with warmth and hospitality, look no further than Cafe Rowan. This place is a gem, and I’m so grateful to have discovered it.

I just tried to get a table at the establishment as a single person dining alone with a large dog. Literally, the silhouette that this restaurant has on its window is a dog, but they don't do table service on the patio?! What a bunch of unbelievable nonsense! She kept telling me that I have to go inside in order. I'm not tying my dog up in Portland anywhere! Ever! Things are stolen left and right. I do not tie my dog up in Portland and to expect people that around here is completely out of pocket. But we're a fancy type of restaurant with eclectic cuisine yet we require you to do counter service. What a joke!!

Cafe Rowan is in a random little shopping Plaza next to apartments and a drug store. You wouldn't expect the level and presentation of food to be coming out of this place. Absolutely stunning plates. This is my second review for here. I still give it 5 stars for everything but one thing. I did not notice the first time but they now make it that you don’t miss it now. The first sign is only an inch away from the credit card reader and then there is a HUGE sign over the dish bins. BUS YOUR OWN TABLE. I go out so I don’t have to cook or deal with dishes. These establishments now are pushing the servicing on to customers but yet they want a higher tip. Sorry folks. You make me work, your tip goes down. It’s a small place and there seems to be ample staff so what’s the deal? If you are looking for full service go somewhere else. I will be.

Super dank lobster roll (and the lobster is prepared in the most humane way instead of boiled alive like some places do), yummy French toast, & oh that dungeons crab Benedict!!! Lobster and French toast and crab oh my! to update our review from a year ago: Rowan Cafe: We love the cafe for their lobster rolls and everything they make. We watched their promotion of a prefix menu for dinner for a spendy evening. For our 2023 anniversary/winter holiday gift to ourselves we went. A bit of a fuss as they had more arrive than planned which was an interesting thought experiment. The courses reminded me of Uptown Billiards, if you remember when they had a seasonal and locally prepared prefix menu back in the earlier 2000’s it cost around $20, over time this of course changed. We left inebriated and full with happy new memories. Rowan cafe put together a beautiful pear, squash and gorgonzola tart for the first course. My child-scientist-foodie-nerd-brain wants to learn how to make this thing of beauty. They must have heard us say I’ll have 5 more jokingly because they brought us another plate and it was divine. The wines were well paired. The pinot noir I want to be best friends with. The beef Wellington! Holy wow that beef Wellington. I’ve never had one, only seen it on the British baking shows and usually someone cries on that episode trying to make one. We know there are a few things you shouldn’t do to it. Well the things they did to this Beef Wellington were very naughty indeed thanks to chef skills. Wow. I want to groundhogs day this experience. Oh then there was the sticky toffee pudding. Again I’m so thankful this was my first experience of these dishes, they were heaven. This night of food tasting actually gave me pause that humanity is worth something. You can taste the passion for good food here. It’s exquisite. As I said to the owner, this food turns the dooms day clock back. For reals you’ll wanna try it. Although not part of the meal they do sell these fantastic hot sauces that we adore. I do not like hot sauce traditionally because it’s just hot (usually barely hot) with vinegar, very boring. I prefer to throw raw chilis in my food while cooking, chopped seeds and all instead. However, their hot sauces are hot with taste! Imagine that *(rolls eyes at everyone and their mother for their ‘spicy’ vinegar garbage) Hot honey mustard where the flavors they boast, you actually taste. Fuckin’ finally! The curry hot sauce is so yum, not the spiciest, but it allows you to taste the ingredients rather than imagine them. They make um in small batches so it’s fun to try new ones, but I’m finding myself mourning the potential of the hot honey mustard as only a taste memory. I greatly appreciated that they didn’t frown too hard on my putting hot honey mustard on saffron noodles with Dungeness crab, it was sooooo good. We picked up the peaches n scream, they said it was hot. I’m looking forward to finding out. Obviously we love Rowan cafe. It’s difficult to find good food made by folks who have a passion for it. We find this at Rowan cafe even after they’ve been open for a little while (a rarity these days). Often once a place gets a food hold in the market they kinda slide down on the quality because money is why! This place makes me think, if we didn’t have to be reliant on the almighty $ what other outstanding things could come to be. Or maybe it’s the $ driving the vehicle. Suppose that’s a different rant. Anyway you won’t regret checkin this place out.

The food is gorgous and delicous. On a Sunday morning we only had to wait 7 or so mins for a table. I had the crab eggs bennie and my friend had the Jamon eggs bennie. There is a small parking lot kind of behind the building. That is nice. There was 1 parking spot left when I got there on a Sunday. It is a little loud in the restaurant. Looks pleasant and clean in there. While the food is amazing be prepared to mostly serve yourselve. You order at the counter, bring your coffee and beverages to your table. Inluding water from a diffrent water station. They do bring out your food. However, no one checked on us. I think that is the standard for self service. For the prices the self service is a bit much. Then you are prompted to leave a tip. The first 2 choices listed are 20% and 18%. I personally do not love counter service. However, I do love the food!

Great little spot! Good food and friendly staff. They're participating in dumpling week this year. I ordered the lobster and prawn dumplings in a delicious Tom Kha broth. Also ordered one of their famous lobster rolls. They are small, but very tasty! I would definitely recommend this spot! I'll be back!

Food is great. Atmosphere is mediocre. EDM blasting. The whole, "Bus your own dishes" thing is annoying. I know I sound like a first world Karen but why am I busing my own tables, when paying over $80 for food and drinks?

Cute little cafe/breakfast spot with delicious food and great coffee. Got the burrito and a cappuccino and loved them both. Parking is horrible but that's nothing new in Portland. The staff was friendly and the food was quick. I would definitely come back for the cappuccino again.

The food was to DIE for! Oh my gosh, my friend and I went for brunch this past weekend, and it was the BEST breakfast I've ever had. We ordered the banana foster French toast and one of the breakfast burritos, then the owner gave us the special: lobster eggs Benedict French toast! Wow! You could tell everything was made from scratch, the flavors balanced each other so well. The staff was extremely kind, the vibe was new and chic, and the owner/chef came around and greeted us and chatted at the end. They plate everything beautifully, and their menu changes monthly. Overall, they just really love their food, and you can tell. Any foodie needs to go here ASAP. I definitely will be coming back as much as I can.

Great food. Service format is awkward. Confusion about whether to grab a table before or after ordering based on input from floor staff created awkward friction with another patron. Why would you order a sit down meal without knowing you have a table to sit at? Five stars for food. Staff was friendly justifying three stars. Atmosphere is upbeat warranting four stars. Averages out to four stars.

Nothing but GAS! Go here! Dog friendly. Outdoor dining. Kind staff. The kitchen is wicked fast there’s never a long wait for your meal. Wednesday lobster roll + mimosa rocks my socks off. All other days and all the foods and beverage rocks my socks off. This is where you need to be!

Of all the lobster rolls out there (cache cache, and bar normandie) in Portland, there is no other one out there which comes close to theirs. Perfect buttery bread and the lobster is the showcase. No fancy sauce or display, just true to the lobster. Bonus is paired with a mimosa on Wednesdays is $20 for the whole shebang!!

LEGIT LOBSTER ROLL Finding a place in Portland to get a GOOD lobster roll consistently was a challenge until Cafe Rowan opened its doors. This SE spot has a hipster chique vibe AND a parking lot. We came in knowing we were going to get a lobster roll and it truly was magnificent. So good, in fact, that we are before the camera did and did not get a photo of the delicious lobster meat served on a perfectly toasted roll. What we didn’t know prior to coming was if we were going to each get our own LR or if we were going to share and split another dish… Chable's Birria Rancheros is a unique spin on a couple of my favorite Mexican dishes and I highly recommend you try it out. Great place for a takeout lobster roll during the week… Came on 5/28 and they had a scallop BLTA on their special menu. I had a very hard time not ordering the lobster roll, but sucked it up to try something not always on the menu and I’M SO GLAD I DID!!! The combination of the BLTA (hold the swamp melons) was FANTASTIC and you get an excellent amount of scallop and bacon for $17. Whatever homemade mayo sauce situation they got going on is phenomenal and I hope it’s on the menu still next time I go back.

Wish they would list out all their ingredients. Ordered a benedict and it came covered in chili flakes, which was not listed in their ingredients. I can't handle any type of spicy food, so ended up giving it to my husband and not eating anything during our visit. Update: Can't respond to the reply. I ordered it without the peppers specifically, so the order was made incorrectly, which we didn't realize since we thought the flakes were in addition to the peppers. We didn't complain because I didn't want to waste food and have them remake it, especially when I didn't think it was a mistake, but rather an ingredient that wasn't on the list. For all that's worth, the food was enjoyed by my husband. Thought the service and atmosphere were good, which is what is reflected in the review. Just leaving my honest experience, never said the food was bad.

Lobster roll and matcha latte were delicious! It's worth the trip, it's worth the hype. The roll had a good texture and it was lathered in a garlic butter. The latte was fresh and did the job, the service was good. Definitely recommend.

Plating and presentation is 10/10. But the taste falls short as the avocado toast is overwhelmed by an excessive amount of peas, compromising the overall flavor balance. Being a fan of egg benedict, the version here didn’t match my expectation.

The ONLY lobster roll I’ll order in Portland. DELISH. $32 bucks for a lobster roll, chips and a glass of wine. I had Chardonnay and it was very pleasant. Initially I expected a server to take your order when you walk in, but you order at the counter and then sit wherever you want.

great, cute brunch spot. a tad classy, i felt underdressed in a tank top and shorts but it was warm out and i didnt get any looks, so whatever 😜 i got an *excellent* mushroom toast and my girl got an avocado one, both were piled so high we had to use a fork and knife, but who's complaining? we ended up sharing because she liked mine so much, but i could see the avocado one being really good as well if you'd like something light.

This place is awesome. The food and drinks were really great and the staff were all a pleasure to speak to. The process of getting a table and ordering can be confusing and annoying, they should just offer full service and be done with it. The kitchen seems to have a timing issue of getting plates out on the same order at the same time. This is not a fine dining experience, while the food might make you believe it is (because it’s that good), the experience has a lot to be desired. Be patient and don’t come hangry. Get the Benedict, great Bloody Mary!

Getting worse. Prices up. Food barely warm, chicken dry, soft drink machine not working, still happy to charge you for bottomless drinks😱

Here is my honest review of the Vineyard Kitchen which is now under the umbrella of Leonardslee Vineyard. We enjoyed a 3 course Sunday lunch which price wise was slightly above the average cost but the surroundings, art work and overall environment made it feel above average. The Sunday menu is limited but less choice can be a good thing for some people and we found plenty to interest us. The service is lacking direction but the waiting team are pleasant and joyful but they need someone to help guide them and avoid missing the subtle touches that make a difference. Our table was layed incorrectly, we had a side plate but no bread was offered. We had wine but had to ask for an ice bucket twice, the rose wine was nice but not served or presented appropriately (bearing in mind this is a vineyard so would expect more emphasis on showcasing wine), water not topped up when empty, we had to go to the till to pay the bill. All fairly small things but collectively hold the experience back from what could be excellent. The starters that we had were unbalanced in the flavours. The goats cheese needed to be stronger against the pickling of the beetroot which also over powered what was a very nice piece of salmon. The peaches with the Burrata were not ripe and should not really have been served. The main was faultless in our opinion, one of the best we have had in a long time. The beef brisket was superb and I love it when extra gravy arrives without asking. The veg looked inviting and tasted fresh and the cauliflower cheese was again faultless all with very good amount of food. For desserts it was very much the same as starters, unbalanced flavours and nothing memorable. We had a bottle of Rose which was very good quality and reasonably priced at £20. Overall a nice experience which is frustrating because it has so much more potential and I wanted to enjoy it more but in the end there were just too many elements that made it in line with the price, just above average. Do visit but only opt for a main a nice bottle of wine and I think you will love it. Anymore and you will be left wanting much more than what you get

The food was appalling. The kebabs were overcooked and like charcoals , the bags were leaking when we got them home that contained the food . The person serving and cooking was miserable, unfriendly and grumpy. All in all , a terrible experience. Avoid

A glass of Macieria to complement an espresso coffee. A taste of Portugal 🇵🇹 in Horsham. Great place, great people. A must visit. And the café in 'dog friendly'.
