Was recommended this cafe by the Tea Rooms in Mistley, which are not open on a Thursday. Great recommendation, both the wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our breakfasts, nice size portions and served hot. Staff were very pleasant and friendly. Will definitely be back.

What a little gem this cafe is. On a miserable wet summers day in July we were looking for a place to have coffee. The waitress spotted us in the doorway looking for a table, she came over and said one would be available in 5 minutes and it was. We had an amazing breakfast wrap with the lightest scrambled egg ever in it. Hot and tasty coffee. Dog friendly as well, excellent.

As a regular customer I always order extra sausage no egg as I have an egg allergy. This has always been at no extra charge. Today for some reason I was informed when ordering a 50p surcharge would be applied because apparently sausages are more expensive than egg. This is factually incorrect as bird flu has caused a spike in prices making average prices of eggs rise almost every week. The lady Seemed to have an attitude and they staff were not very welcoming. This also made me feel uncomfortable and as I suffer with tourettes. After all the times I've been there you think they would've shown a bit of loyalty. £9.00 for a breakfast is really pretty dear. It's not a great move to alienate the regulars.

Coffee not bad, not good, but ok. Service adequate but nothing special. Food provides substance but little else. Homemade bread should be standard for the price, shop bought bread for £8 a sandwich is unacceptable. Apart from the setting this establishment had little to offer compared to other cafes in the area. Staff are nice but more cohesion is needed to provide a full and enjoyable experience,

Q: Where in Manningtree can you wait ages for a cup of tea and a cup of coffee (while listening to the only member of staff moaning to the only other customer and completely ignore you), gulp it down in a hurry because you’ve run out of time by the time they appear with the drinks, ask for the bill, baulk at the amount (£6.05 for two drinks!!!), then have the waitress peer at the cash on the table, clock the lack of tip and plaintively ask if everything was OK? A: That’s right, Cafe Rio. Won’t be going back there in a hurry.

Popped in to buy a couple of baguettes for lunch. Ordered 1 tuna & sweetcorn & 1 ham & salad & 1 piece of carrot cake to take away, so three items. After about a 15-20 minute wait it came out in a bag with the baguettes in polystyrene burger boxes. The waitress then proceeded to charge me £14.00!! I paid it & walked away in such disbelief that I walked back to the cafe to double check she’d charged me the correct amount to which she looked slightly embarrassed & apologised & said yes that was in fact the correct price. Once home we opened up the boxes to flat uninteresting baguettes filled with tuna & a tiny sprinkling of sweetcorn on one side of the baguette & not the other. The ham & salad was flat & lacked filling & the actual baguettes were not crusty & thick they literally looked like the frozen ones you put in the oven that I buy from Lidl! Carrot cake was okay.We eat in at the Ram & Hoggett tearoom in Bradfield & you get a huge baguette, salad, pot of coleslaw & crisps on the side for far cheaper than that! Amazing food. I don’t understand why Cafe Rio feel the need to rip people off this way as I will now never return here nor will my friends & family. Such a shame in today’s climate when people are trying to help out local businesses.

There are several poor or terrible reviews about this cafe commenting on the slow service, but the most recent were a couple of years ago, so I assumed they had upped their game, as most reviews are favourable now. However, our experience was not good. Not a particularly busy day, most tables inside were empty and there were spaces outside. There were five staff behind the counter. But goodness me were we kept waiting! As others have commented just how long can it take to prepare baguettes? Cut the bread open, spread the hummus, put the couple of pieces of veg in and hey presto, job done. It was a shame because it was very tasty, but the overall experience was not good. Also 90p for a very small glass of tap water with dilute orange juice is taking the Mickey!

Thank goodness then for the cafe Rio which provided tea, grub and a friendly welcome, it is obviously popular with locals, several of which soaked up the autumn sun on the chairs outside and it deserves to be as it a lovely little independent cafe and as such should be visited and celebrated in place of the rubbish national chains. After 30 minutes we asked where our food was and we were told it would be a couple of minutes. The waitress returned shortly afterwards and asked to be reminded of our drinks order. She then returned with the wrong drinks. Other customers who arrived after us received their food before us, albeit with a very long wait. Came to Rio's for breakfast and waffles with a few friends to cure a hangover. Second visit to the cafe after visiting once before. We ordered drinks and three breakfast rolls. I very much appreciated the fact that they had a 'Breakfast Any time' section of the menu due to the fact that breakfast stopped at 12. Last visit we thought our sandwiches took a little longer to be made than what we were expecting. This visit, our breakfast rolls took a little long to be made but much faster than last visit. But both times we were sitting outside so I don't know what context affected the time it took to make our order. We then finished our breakfast rolls and ordered three waffles which came quickly. The waffles were described to be 'Belgium Waffles, Vanilla Ice Cream, Whipped Cream and Chocolate sauce', I was not expecting something as delicious as they were! During my visit to Manningtree my mum and I decided to stop for a coffee and a slice of cake, we sat outside as it was such lovely weather, the service was quick, all the staff were very polite and cheerful! The cake was delicious, and it's so nice to have a decent cup of coffee! There seemed to be a lot of regulars which is nice to see they have somewhere to go with a very nice atmosphere! Definantly recommended to anyone in the area!

I came in on my own for a spot of lunch whilst in the area. I ordered a jacket potato which was acceptable and not too small. I asked for a glass of tap water with ice in it as I did not fancy anything else and regularly drink iced water at home with meals. I was gob smacked to be given the smallest glass, about the size of a small whiskey glass with one very small miserable piece of ice in it. What a joke!! The water cost neither myself of them anything and I felt it was very stingy and inhospitable for them to give me such a small glass of it. If someone asks for a glass of water with ice.............give them at least a half pint with several cubes of ice in it!Atmosphere is lacking, staff not friendly nor unfriendly, and I would not recommend this place or make a point of returning, sorry.

i was walking along the Mistley walls on the banks of the Stour on the Mistley Walls in Constable country in chilly January conjuring up an excellent flat white and warm cheese scone before venturing into the High Street past pub grub and tea room offerings when I found Café Rio.This Barista knows his stuff! a sensational coffee was produced- rich and smooth roast, perfect proportions in the making for a hot and strong cup. The cheese scone was served with plenty of butter, warm and delicious. But this restaurant is also known for its pizzas, crepes, European dishes, baguettes and apparently runs to outside catering as well. A family run business that is open 7 days a week, if you are looking for the best coffee in this picturesque part of Suffolk, don't go past Café Rio.

Sad to say that the food, service and atmosphere in this cafe was really not very good. Slow table service and very average food with zero extraction in the kitchen area (open and not separate from cafe ). Won't be going back.

My husband and I stopped for a bite to eat and decided to go into the deli next door which is owned by the same person. It was one of the most enjoyable Sunday mornings we have had for a long time. We decided to have the sausage sandwich which were cooked to order and coffee, everything was lovely so we then couldn't resist the cake and had to have a pot of tea as well. What a little treasure this place is. The owner and young waitress were very helpful and attentive. We shall be back.

Lovely cafe. For tea coffee or a breakfast snack. You can eat outside and also in the deli next door. If your expecting quick service you'll be disappointed they cook everything individually for you.

We had been out for family day out and decided on our way home to stop at this little cafe after hearing good reviews about it. We arrived about 20minutes before closing and was made to feel very welcome, there was 5 of us in total and a dog so we sat outside, we ordered 5 drinks and a mixture of sausage and bacon sandwiches. We were served very fast and effectively and felt very welcome even though it was close to closing time. It was very nice and pleasant. Will definitely be returning there again and would recommend it to anyone visiting the area.

The cafe has a great variety of good quality food and a really friendly service. They also own the Deli next door which, along with being a deli operates as a slightly more sophisticated and up market Bistro Cafe ... Both well worth the visit ... yum! feel and has so

We stopped as we needed a drink and something to eat after a long walk nearby. I had a (half!) pot of tea; my partner a 'packet' banana milkshake - warm, frothy, fake, no flavour - and a breakfast bap - cheap ingredients, minimum portion. We were overcharged. As it was a small amount I couldn't be bothered to argue, but it added insult to injury. Go somewhere else.

We were in the area for just a couple of nights, and booked a meal here on the strength of Tripadvisor reviews, which proved to be correct. It was an excellent meal, and good value.
