Cafe Oriental & Dumpling Bar in Cambridge

A very impromptu lunch yesterday. We walked past and could smell the deliciousness. It was so busy, which is always a good sign. Lucky enough we got the last table, sat down and quickly orders. I had the Stir Fried Pork Mince & Noodles and my hubbie had Stir Fried Noodles with Chicken (no photo as he ate it too quickly 🤦🏻‍♀️) and both dishes were delicious! Its a very cute cafe, that’s serving, what feels like, good home cooked Oriental food. Couldn’t ask for more. Perfect for a weekend impromptu lunch and will definitely go back!

I had the Japanese Beef Brisket Curry and it was delicious. The staff and service were excellent.

One of the best Asian food in Cambridge, reasonable price, good portion size. Would recommend the open rice dishes and dumplings. Highly recommend this place.

Worst Asian takeaway food I have ever eaten. If this restaurant has any morals it won't open ever again. Ordered 3 dishes all 3 dishes dishes are now in the bin. Food was cold, the meat and seafood in the 3 dishes was non existent. An absolute disgraceful place. The service was appalling but would have been forgiven if the food was decent.

We were visiting Cambridge for a few days and we particularly like oriental food so we decided to visit the Café Oriental and Dumpling Bar. We have eaten oriental food all over the world, so we were exciting to try this place. We were not disappointed. Firstly, all the people who worked there were very pleasant and welcoming. We ordered the Pork Fillings Fried Dumpling, Stir-Fried Ho Fun with King Prawns and Braised Beef Brisket with Rice. The flavours were very good, just slightly different from those dishes we have had before, but still very good and such a reasonable price too. There was free tap water and we also had Jasmine Tea which was very refreshing. The only down side was that to use the toilet one had to leave the restaurant and walk down the street and down a side street to the back of the café only to find a single toilet, guarded by an Chinese/Asian guy and if it was in use, (which is was when I went), then you had to wait quite a while during which time the food was going cold in the café/restaurant. I would certainly recommend the food at this Café Oriental and Dumpling Bar, but make sure you will not need to use a toilet.

We went to this restaurant based on its reviews. I am unsure if we just went on an off-day, but the overall experience was terrible. Service was non-existent, which hardly matters, but the food was some of the worst I’ve had in the UK. “Braised ribs on rice” were brought out within minutes of ordering, a horrific splatter of 2 chopped ribs in an indiscernible gravy, with rice and 2 slithers of soggy bak Choi. This was followed by prawn and chive dumplings, certainly not fresh (which wasn’t my expectation), but more so, stale and chewy, floating in water on the plate. As if one had an appetite left, the pork filled buns succeeded in completing this hat-trick of gastronomical disasters - slap-dash frozen bobs of low quality. Safe to say - never again. If you are venturing a brave attempt, steer clear of the three items we ordered, and you might fair better.

Cool little restaurant. I take all my girlfriends here! Service is nice and fast and food is really tasty. Only problem is that it’s cash only but you can order before then dash over to Tesco (2 minute walk) so it’s not a problem😋

Unassuming place with beautifully cooked and authentic Chinese dishes. Genuine and warm service by the staff made it a delight to dine here. Price also quite reasonable. Cash only.

Très bon service, nourriture délicieuse et rapidement servie. La serveuse était de très bon conseil et nous a recommandé le meilleur « dessert » de la carte que nous avons adoré (je ne me souviens plus du nom mais vous pouvez lui demander conseil). Je reviendrai !!

Amazing food and services! We came here with my parents and the food did not disappoint at all!! Dumplings, both soup ones and fried ones, were all tasty and the chili sauce on the side made it even better! The waitresses who served us last night were super helpful and friendly. We would definitely come back for more dumplings and would highly recommend this place!

I enjoyed eating here but please could it be mandatory to state the use of MSG in food preparation. I have not had a problem with it from other establishments, but the excessive use from this one has caused an unpleasant stomach upset, sweating and a headache that still hasn’t gone since I ate there yesterday. I understand it is a flavour enhancer, and the food tasted great but I have certainly paid for it.

My favourites are the lamb and coriander dumpling and fried beancurd. We ordered seconds it was that flavoursome. Would highly recommend this place. Please be aware they only accept cash, and their veggie/chicken/lamb options are limited. Pork and Beef dominate the menu. Nonetheless it’s worth a try.

Definitely recommend! Amazing experience. Very comfortable dine in experience. The servers are lovely. The area is beautifully decorated with Chinese lanterns and decorations. And the food was incredible! I had the pork with kimchi and rice, can’t recommend this dish enough.

This was SO GOOD. We tried a few things and everything we had was delicious. This restaurant is worth visiting if you’re in the area. Or if you aren’t in the area. We took a trip for this place and we weren’t disappointed.

Absolutely disgusting food. The reason I leave feedback again is because my earlier one was removed. We dined here based on Tripadvisor reviews.... We had cabbage salad, which looked - and tasted like - someone already chewed it once. Then the main dish had chicken drumsticks chopped up with the skin and the bone. I thoug if you chose a main dish in a restaurant like this and the meat is chicken, it would be chicken breast. If this was my first experience with Chinese food, I would never eat it again. My suspiscion was confirmed when I saw my feedback was removed within a few hours...This is how this place keen keep their good reputation. The food is nothing like it is on the photo on Tripadvisor. Avoid!

Best Asian food restaurant in the middle of Cambridge City centre. Food is simply unbelievable, especially the dumplings. Main dishes are very good and depend on your selection and this restaurant tries to unify many distinct asian plates. The place is tiny with deliveries entering the place every three minutes and that does not help the atmosphere. Another issue is that it is cash only but this is well explained in the front door.

Fantastic dumplings, expecially the fried pork. Also very good wonton soup with chili, my favorite. Very simple and little restaurant with few table. Prepare yourself to wait, it is full expecially during week end.

They offer an impressive variety of dumplings, which taste quite authentic. In fact overall there's a solid variety of Northern and Canto dishes, including dim sum. Generally decent British-Chinese fare, although I found the black pepper chicken wings a bit too bland for my taste...

Back again, cant keep me away from great food. Fantastic. Food is great and service is brilliant. Dumplings are so authentic and delicious - equally comparable to those made by my Chinese wife and at a reasonable price. Highly recommended. Will be back when in Cambridge.

Excellent food and excellent staff, but the manager wouldn't stop berating every member of her staff. It was very off-putting, she was picking at everything and her staff looked very nervous to get everything right. The fact that she moaned at them equally shows the problem is with her, not with them.

The food was very good, as the service. The prices are very reasonable as well, so in that sense I'd recommend everyone to go! The only thing is they only accept cash, so there is always the possibility they do it for tax evasion purposes (I'm not saying they do it because of that), and I'm usually a bit reluctant to support them. I don't give them 5 stars because they don't accept cards at all. I think that's something every business should do. Even stalls on the market accept them!

Honestly some of the most amazing steamed dumplings I’ve ever eaten, juicy and amazing flavour - unlike any others. Highly recommend the pork and kimchi.

This is such a find. One of the most authentic Asian restaurants in Cambridge and I spend a lot of time in Asia. We were there for the twins birthday. I had pork won ton and it was delicious. Then we had fried vegetable dumplings and pork steamed dumplings with plain rice and mixed vegetables. All lovely. The service is swift and polite. It’s a great find.

When me and my parents were in Cambridge and couldn’t decide where to eat we randomly selected this lovely little restaurant to our surprise it was fantastic with a wide selection of oriental food and smiling faces behind the counter. The food is always top tier (I highly recommend their dumplings) always packed with flavour . Cafe oriental is a must try for anyone out and about in Cambridge and me and my family now go their regularly.

I've come here so many times. And I bring everyone here! The fried chicken dumplings are my personal favourite. The dumplings here in general are the best. I would say the best dumplings I've ever had. Definitely give it a go. Portions are generous so I like to share my dumplings or get takeaway if I can't finish it by myself.

Did takeaway and it was pretty quick. The steamed buns are fluffy and the prawn, egg and chive dumplings were so flavorful and delicious! It was so filling too, very generous portions.

Food is moderate. The price is not too bad. Utensil was not properly washed, and some layers of food were found on it. I don't see hygiene in here. Imagine the kitchen. The place stinks horribly. I would not come again. Avoid at all costs. Honest review.

Cash only, hence the 4 stars. The service was friendly and quick, the food was delicious. We had the wonton soup and a selection of dumplings - highly recommend the pork and sesame buns. It would have been nice to order without worrying whether we had brought enough cash, but it was a cheap meal overall. I hope to come here soon.

When a friend first brought me here, I immediately fell in love with the place. The atmosphere is simple, looks like a typical noodle house you may find in China. The prices are very good, where you can have a full bowl of noodles or 15 dumplings under £10. The food is great, and feels authentic. I always come and order #51 which is the braised beef noodles and a side order of crystal king prawn dumplings. The waitress is efficient and sweet. I understand when some say the sides were served separately as its happened to me too, so maybe when you order ask to have them all served together. Will continue to come to this lovely cafe, even if it means driving 45 minutes each way!

Where to start? I chose tha place based on the reviews on here. I am buffled about why this place is so highly rated. To start with if 2 sides are ordered, both cold, they should come at the same time. The same applies to the mains. The bamboo salad was a tiny, soggy, overpriced dish, the other one had huge, unchopped wood ear mushrooms thrown on a plate with a bunch of other, mostly raw vegetables. I could not decide whether it was supposed to be a steamed side dish cooled down or a raw one. When I tried to choose a main dish I found "chicken leg", more chicken leg, fried, minced pork, fried chicken leg, chicken wing, maybe a single dish made of beef, some king prawn and duck. From past bad experience, I was not brave enough to try the duck. The sauce of my dish was okay but not a single piece of chicken breast. Stripes of chicken thighs half cooked. My partner's dish had possibly chicken thigh chopped up with the skin left on. No blackbean sauce, no proper bamboo, no shiitake mushroom, no kung po, no sweet and sour, no spring rolls. The quality of meat on the menu as well as in the dishes are non-existent at this place. I felt sick when I was leaving...

Настоящая проблема , что не принимают карточки кредитные и мне пришлось пройти пол километра в поисках банкомата чтобы снять наличку !! Готов был заплатить в евро , но это тоже не взяли !! Вообщем для 21 века Не очень удобно !! Поэтому я снизил оценку

Faruk advised a splendid mix of steamed dumplings. I’ve been here before, and I wasn’t disappointed. Well worth a visit, on a crowded street of food venues. Do the Charity-Shop crawl and end up here - you won’t be disappointed.

This was our first time eating dumplings and it was amazing! We all got different pork and chicken dumplings which were absolutely delicious. The prices are good and affordable and the portion sizes are perfect. Atmosphere was nice, cosy and welcoming, can't wait to come back again!

Best place to eat dumplings, amazing staff as well, always smiling and kind! I do recommend vegan dumplings and peanut 🥜 rice balls. They are absolutely delicious 5*

The food was surprisingly good especially given the price. In London you can probably find dim sum places that are 20% better in taste but at least twice as expensive.

Just arrived in Cambridge for a few days and found this spot on google as I was dying for a big bowl of noodle/wanton soup. Didn't disappoint! Very authentic and delicious. Had Pork ans Vegetable wanton soup and Kimchi.

Although I don't like many more traditional Asian dishes, I find there are options I do enjoy. Often comes here for dumplings and noodles etc. Gets a little crowded and they only accept cash, but I would recommend.

Love it, the dumplings where amazing, and the rice with the spicy meat and pepper 🌶 Delicious!! Will go back again!!!!
