My boyfriend and I love coming here for a quick bite to eat for lunch. Service is quick, friendly staff and delicious food. The shawarma wraps are huge and absolutely delicious: a bargain for £3.50! The salad options are also really tasty. Would highly recommend for a cheap and cheerful yet delicious and authentic quick lunch!

I went on my mother in law's recommendation and was very impressed. The Cafe was busy which is always a good sign and we ordered. We ordered the mixed schwarma and were impressed with the amount of food you get for £6. Unfortunately the card machine wasn't working but we're kindly offered a mint tea as an apology which was unnecessary as it wasn't an issue anyway. The food was very well cooked and beautiful to eat. I would say it was better than what you get in some restaurants. Staff were chatty and very friendly providing a great atmosphere. I would highly recommend.

I've been going here for the past two years on and off. I normally get the mixed shawarma meal which comes with chicken shawarma, falafel, chips, salad, a variety of dips and some bread. It really depends on the day of the week I go in as to whether I get quality, good value for money food or whether I feel short changed by okay food with little to no value for money due to lack of quantity. On this particular occasion, a friend ordered a chicken shawarma wrap (£3.50) and I got the mixed shawarma meal (£6). I got down to the food hall in the market and looked at my meal surprised at what I was seeing. My friend observed "Is that it?" there was more chicken in her £3.50 wrap than there was in my £6 meal, there was one falafel to complement the chicken. I decided to go back up to cafe moor to ask them to explain why I only got one falafel (usually they gave two) - the man at the counter was slightly embarrassed and got defensive. He gave me an extra piece of falafel and said theyd recently changed the serving size. Anyway, he gave me an extra falafel and said he'd hope I come back. I wont be going back, after spending the amount of money I've spent at cafe moor - I'd expect the quality and quantity to be in line with the price charged. This is too often not the case. It really is a lucky dip depending on which staff member is working on a particular day. Its a shame.

Popped in for lunch on a weekday and there was only one person ahead ordering. The food took a long time but when it came it was absolutely delicious, some of the best falafel I’ve ever had. Will definitely return, the bourek look delicious and there was a lady freshly making things from dough. The stall is teeny tiny but so pretty with lovely signage and a stunning antique till.

I used to visit here a lot but in the past have been heading to similar outlets in the area for falafel such as Turkish Delights in the market or albaba restaurant just around the corner. The falafel l had recently at cafe moor was very bland, and the chips were only just cooked. The other two places do better food and give you more for your money.

I have raved about this place in the past and was looking forward to this visit. Strangely for a lunchtime, there was nobody eating and no queue. The people before us had just got bored and left asking for their money back. We were still trying to order whilst being partially ignored. The two guys working there were more like Laurel & Hardy than staff, not helped by their slightly comical hats. The food when it came was lukewarm. The mint tea was nowhere near as nice as last time and I couldn't drink it. Why has it changed? This place was great! Was it an off day?? Please pull yourselves together!!

We were in Leeds Market at lunchtime and we're looking for a tasty meal. There are loads of options in the newly refurbished market from Thai to Indian and Bangladeshi but we decided on Cafe Moor because we saw the food, beautifully displayed and it was busy and buzzing. We were not disappointed with our choice of Lamb Bourek and Chicken Shawarma, both were delicious and very filling. The only slight downside being that you have to stand to eat your meal. Quite simply the tastiest, best value street food I've had.I go at least once a month - more if I can arrange to be in town across lunchtime - for the Halloumi Wrap or the Felafel. Standing at the bright red counter, sipping my mint tea and tucking into one of Cafe Moor's amazing lunches is one of my favourite reasons to pop into Kirkgate Market. The service is friendly, the prices are ridiculously reasonable for the quality of the food, and the food itself reminds me of the long-lost Theos, which fed Leeds Uni students the best kebabs in the country back in the 80s and 90s.It's an absolute gem.

I've taken way too long to review cafe moor, given I've been gorging myself on the food for a good few years now. Everything I've tried has been excellent but the two highlights for me are the baba ganoush (this is the best you'll get anywhere) and, my old faithful, the lamb bourek. Perfectly priced and all headed up by Kada, the owner, who is a proper Leeds food hero and leading the front line in putting Kirkgate market on the map for a new generation.

MORE AT TripAdvisor

When I lived in Palestinian refugee camps in Lebanon in the 1970’s and early 1980’s, there was not a great deal to eat, and when we ate, we ate relatively simple food. The first time I had falafel, it was in the old souk at Rowsha near the Beirut Corniche. So, I am always excited when a new place opens, which specialises in Middle Eastern food, even though there is plenty of competition these days in central Leeds, where I have lived for the past 15 years.Cafe Moor is located in the upper part of Leeds Kirkgate Market, and has been here for some years now. It consists of a triangular-shaped unit close to one of the entrances on Vicar Lane. Customers can get food to take away, and there is some space to eat it at the stall itself if you want. The food here at Cafe Moor always looks delicious, but unfortunately, the large amount of food on display creates a problem. Take a look through the many photos of Cafe Moor, the food looks great doesn’t it? But look how it is displayed. Anyone familiar with Leeds market will know that the food display is next to a very busy thoroughfare, and it was even busier when the business formerly at the adjacent stall stacked crisp boxes in the aisle. As you can see from the photos, unlike all the other nearby food stalls, Cafe Moor has no glass screens to protect the food on display, and it teeters on the edge of the display area, not even inches from passing shoppers. Without going into details, in short, it is subject to contamination, which is why the other stalls have glass screens protecting their food. With this in mind, when I have eaten at Cafe Moor, I have been extremely careful about precisely what I ate. I have previously found service rather slow and temperamental, but less so recently.I have hoped that the hygiene situation at Cafe Moor would improve, but a further concern has been that several times each week, I pass through the market before 8.00am, and since Cafe Moor is only partially enclosed by cloth screens when the business is closed, I have been able to see that food has being left out unrefrigerated all night. This includes the leftover meat on the shawarma. I was surprised that this could be allowed to happen. When I drew the owner’s attention to these matters, he became abusive, and insulted me. While food is being left out less frequently now, it is still occurring, as the attached photo of the shawarma left out overnight shows. At the end of 2016, I noticed that some brass glass-holders had been installed in the food display area at Cafe Moor, and I hoped that this meant they were about to fit glass screens to protect the displayed food. However, since then, no improvements have been made, more than two months after the glass-holders were fitted, no actual glass has been put into them. Many seem to enjoy the food at Cafe Moor, and if I wasn’t aware of the hygiene issues I mention, I probably would myself, but I’m not going to risk my health eating here again. If you enjoy the food, fair enough, it’s your choice. Personally, I’d rather eat elsewhere.

As you will be able to see from my profile, I rarely write reviews..in fact only two from a previous holiday when I actually had some time on my hands. However, I do use trip advisor as a tool for choosing new and exciting places to eat and on the whole find it an excellent medium. When I come across idiots like 'smitem' I am duty bound to reset the balance (having looked through their profile one can easily glean the type of individual writing such rubbish). Please ignore his comments, I eat here at lunch as often as possible; it is absolutely amazing food and such friendly and attentive service. Funnily enough I was chatting with the owner about the appearance of brass poles and he explained it was part of his ever ongoing effort to keep the standards as high as humanly possible by adding glass, not just to improve hygiene above the already highly standard, but to further extend the incredible aesthetic thus heightening the customer experience. Please try it for yourself, I guarantee you will not be disappointed.

I noticed today that some brass rods have been put in place, which look as if they are intended to hold glass screens around the edge of the food display. When this improvement happens, it will make the food on display less liable to contamination. Why it has taken so long to do something about this glaring food hygiene issue remains a mystery. Maybe, at some point, they'll even get round to refrigerating the shawarma instead of leaving it out all night.

What this means is simple: delicious, healthy food, which also supports the local economy within the Market!North African & Moroccan food is new to me, so I decided to try a Falafel from Cafe Moor's Shawarma menu. Some of you may ask: 'what is a Falafel?'. The falafel is made up of deep-fried chickpea croquettes, homous, pickles & salad rolled in Arabic flat bread. Considering the falafel only cost £3.50 it's presentation, colour, textures, smells, & tastes were all fantastic! It was not only the food which made a lasting impression. Their service was great too.I shall be going back to Cafe Moor, and discover more North African & Moroccan cuisine. And so should you!

Stopped here just as we were walking past and were intrigued at first by all the interesting things in the food counter such as the harissa, pickles and houmous. Took a look at the menu and decided that it looked like an interesting place to have lunch. Went for the Spicy Fish Bourek - tuna mixed with harissa and goats cheese served wth shakshuka. It was really delicious and great to try what was a new mixture of flavours for me. Great value for money too. And the guy who served us was really friendly. Will definitely eat there again next time I'm in Leeds!

As a prissy little middle aged person that visits Leeds once a month I have walked past this place so many times on my way to other places. I was always intrigued by it so decided to bite the bullet and actually stop by there today. So glad I did. No where to sit. Standing eating proper street food, great atmosphere, fabulous vegetarian choice, so much better than the proliferation of chain places. This is going to be my new 'go to' lunch venue in Leeds. Thank you

The food here always looks delicious. I had a rather lengthy wait on my visit, and very inattentive service, but the menu was interesting, and the food OK. Two things put me off this place, both relating to hygiene. The food is very close to where lots of people pass, without any glass screen, and so there is the potential for contamination. Secondly, I am a frequent visitor to Leeds market, and often before this stall opens for business. The sides are just tarpaulin, and you can see the food has been left out unrefrigerated, including the skewered lamb for the shawarmas. I have been surprised that this has been allowed to happen. I'm not talking about an isolated incident, it's something I've witnessed a couple of times weekly since the stall opened. Currently, it is closed, and I'm not sure if it is being refurbished or relocating. Either way, I hope their hygiene practices improve, they really need a closed premises with adequate refrigeration to allow them to store food overnight.

Having heard good reports of this café and fancying a change from our usual pre-theatre lunch, my friend and I decided to give it a try. I'm so glad we did! All the food was fresh, prepared in front of us by friendly, efficient staff and absolutely delicious. All the dishes are authentic and very reasonably priced.

I am so happy I came across this in my very first day in Leeds. I went there to eat 3 times in a week because the food is absolutely delicious. Too bad they don't always have Harira soup, which is my favorite, but everything is delicious. The presentation is really cool too, served on wood platters. Try the tea too, very strong minty flavor. They guy in charge is friendly and polite, I can only recommend this!

We had seen this stall upon looking into where to eat in Leeds :itsallaboutthefood:We found the stall and it looked to have just the sort of food we were looking for.Loitered around and decided to have a Chicken Shawarma platter to share and we would eat it stood at the side of the stall. We were given a mint tea to go with it, always wary of these flavoured teas, how wrong I was, it was delicous, wonder how we can get hold of some of this. The platter, a wooden board, arrived with the chicken, humus, salad, potatoes, a bread, harissa, olives (very nice careful of pips) and mayo, there was plenty there for us both and it was lovely.I know we were there later in the afternoon but hard to see why they are not run off their feet for this food, it may be fast food but none of this chain style burger or mass produced stuff, this was just like eating from a stall in the Middle East, really nice food simply done and very tasty, wish there were a lot more places like this around.

Delighted to come across this very authentic Tunisian cafe - we had a platter to share for a light lunch with hummus, flatbread, salad and meat filled croquettes, plus free glasses of mint tea, for just £5.50. The food is all freshly made by them with delicate yet distinct flavours. The fresh harissa wa so good that we went back and bought a tub to take home. A great find, looking forward to our next trip to Leeds to repeat the experience

After reading all the amazing reviews about this place, I was really looking forward to trying it. Unfortunately we were left disappointed. My chicken shawarma was underwhelming after reading reviews describing it as the best shawarma in leeds. It was well priced but a bit tasteless and dry. My boyfriend ordered the chicken tagine which only came with one piece of chicken and a bit of bread, which was quite pricey at £4.50. The service was very friendly, with the staff working quickly and offering us mint tea and extra bread. It was okay but as already mentioned, very disappointed after reading such fantastic reviews. Perhaps they were having an off day...

It's cafe in a market hall, what do you expect? Cheap bacon butty or something? Nope. This has got taste and something really different to offer. Fragrant aromas and a little subtle spice. Go on. Treat yourself to something different for lunch. A bourek or shawarrma instead of a pasty? Absolutely cracking little find.

This is nothing more than a stall in a drafty market. There's no seats, you just take away or lean up against the counter. But I've just been served the finest mezze platter I've eaten anywhere including Abu Dhabi, Dubai and Doha let alone London. Why pay twice as much for a sad bagel over the road outside Harvey Nicks when you can be transported to the Middle East and feast on some truly amazing, fresh, zingy, smokey delicacies all prepared in front of you.

I had walked past this place a few times before but not when I was looking to eat so today when I was in town I knew straight away where I wanted to have lunch and I wasn't disappointed. I had a chicken wrap (can't remember the exact name) it was £3 and well worth it, very tasty. As well as other sandwiches there are also pastries, olives and an array of other items available. One thing to note is there isn't any seating only counters where you can stand but this didn't put me off. I will definately drop by again when I'm in the area.

Visited for lunch on a Friday whilst at work.Service was excellent - very prompt and helpful. However, the Shawarma and Batata Harra were a little average. The Shawarma was warm and tasted nice, but was hardly the flavour-filled experience you expect from a North African eatery. Similarly, the Batata Harra were a little soggy, as though they had been sat there for a while. Perhaps this was the problem. All in all, for £5.00, it was a nice lunch, but perhaps I caught them on an off-day or toward the end of their lunc service. I will go back and give them another chance, however.

I have eaten here a couple of times, this is take away food, no seating, but there are benches outside and the stall opposite is empty so tend to sit/rest on there. If you want something different to Asian or European food, there is little when it comes to African. This is a nice refreshing change, and if you want something nice, something different to eat when out in Leeds, you really can't go far wrong.Nice people work here too, been eating here and sometimes the guy behind the counter just asks people if we want a free mint tea.
