Cafe Massala in Central Bedfordshire

We decided to celebrate our Golden Wedding Anniversary at the CafeMasala with 30 family and friends. Wow! Taraque and his team did us proud! I'm not sure how but they managed to serve all 30 of us very quickly with starters, main meals and side dishes without anybody waiting for more than a few minutes. Great service but shouldnt be surprised as CafeMasala has consistently given us great service and excellent food quality for many years and is definitely our "go to" restaurant of choice. Whilst staying locally we decided to visit the cafe Masala. Upon arrival we realised that the car park and restaurant were packed out, with people waiting to be seated, so we decided to order a takeaway instead online. We collected the takeaway 45 minutes later, which was on time. The sign of a great restaurant and takeaway, is knowing the customers are prepared to wait and that its heaving! The food was lovely. My husband enjoyed his dishes.

Consistently top quality food with lovely staff. I have many musician friends that tour the world, and they always ask to go to the Cafe Masala when they stay with me. All the dishes have great invdividual flavours and are a pure delight!...... Excellent choices for those that are Gluten Free or Veggie. We love it!!

Take away or in the restaurant the food is always superb and so consistent. In addition the staff are very polite, welcoming and friendly. We’ve tried others but always come back to Cafe Masala. Highly recommended and we are so lucky to have in our village.

We went to on a Friday night as a table of 9, it was busy throughout the night with a lovely atmosphere and the staff were constantly attentive. Food was fantastic, a lot of the party had never been there before but will be back!

Dinner with Family 13th April. Table booked for 7.00. This was mine and my partner’s first visit to the restaurant, the other 2 in our group have been here many times, so came on their recommendation.. And we were not to be disappointed. Lovely surroundings. Fantastic food, great flavours and spices. Fantastic, warm and friendly staff, nothing was a problem for them. Fantastic value for money, best Indian restaurant around. Question is will we back? That’s a 100% definitely yes. Can’t wait for our next visit.

they had set meals for 4+ which sounded great however my family and i went for separate dishes. chicken tikka masala is often a very typical boring dish for me but having had it here i thought it was amazing, it was coconutty and perfect. the portion sizes were great. the onion bajis were huge and i couldn’t finish it. the waiters were jokey and hospitable. i cant sing their praises enough. thank you for a lovely experience!

Best Indian restaurant!! We used to live in the area and would often have a meal or take away from Cafe Masala, but moved away and haven’t been back for years. We always compared any other Indian restaurant with Cafe Masala, and we were always left disappointed, no other matched. We went there for our anniversary last night, and it was as great as ever. It was lovely to be remembered by Tarik and his wonderful staff, the food was as wonderful as we remembered. Would recommend to everyone.

As a visitor from Manchester, this was my first visit to the restaurant. Both the food and service was excellent. Best onion bhajis I’ve ever had! The party shared the mains and all did not disappoint. The garlic Nan was light and complimented the meal. One of the party was vegan and they were very accommodating to his needs. A truly great experience. Even if you are not local to this restaurant it’s definitely worth the journey to visit.

The staff are very friendly and the food was excellent. My Husband had the Gunpowder Curry and he said that it was the best curry he has ever had. The price of the food is also very good . You need to book early if you want to go on a Friday or Saturday night as they get booked up. We have been there a few times now and the food is always excellent. We only live in the village where it is so not to far to go for us for a lovely meal out.

Just saw the review from Sharon D, giving this great Restaurant a poor rating. I been to cafe Marsala many times and have always had a tasty meal. I went last night, (17thAugust), with old friends who had never been there. They could not believe how many tables were occupied for a midweek sitting, one commented a place that full, in a rural location, people the food must be good. After our meal both could not thank me enough for taking them there, as they never had such a proper authentic Indian.

This was the first time we had been to Cafe Masala in a couple of years and we really enjoyed our evening. The service was as great with a warm welcome and helpful advice on menu options. The staff were attentive with drinks, we weren’t left thirsty, even though the restaurant was busy with lots of small tables and a couple of big parties. The staff also made a lovely fuss of the birthdays. Our order was brought out without delay and each dish tasted beautiful. I honestly think this was the tastiest curry we have had in years. I can definitely recommend and we will be visiting again soon. Next time we won’t leave it so long.

Los principales platos de nuevo no nos como se describe como en el menú (lo que debe decir es un montón de salsa, colorear, aceite y cuatro piezas/verduras) toda la comida en sí parecía que iba a explotar con la cantidad de tonos rojos.El personal no era atento y cuando le preguntamos por las recomendaciones, a lo que respondió mirar el menú. En general, una pérdida de dinero y para rematar me sentí enfermo después de comer.Recomendaría este lugar? Definitivamente no! La comida es excelente. Personas utilizar la palabra auténtica en un montón de comentarios, la comida de la cafetería masala es maravilloso, pero no hay restaurante indio es como comer en la India, en mi experiencia, así que no es auténtico, pero que atiende muy bien a nuestro paladar. A great restaurant where the food is always superb and the prices reasonable. There are one or two other good Indian restaurants within a few miles but the Masala is easily the best. What more can I say?

we went Monday earley with friends what a great friendly place can not fault it one of the very best Indians I have been in and we have eaten in quite a few lots of different dishes on the menu to try and not expensive a little gem

Ok, so that is an outrageous claim, but even my aunt and uncle from Chippenham come all the way to Eaton Bray for their favourite curry.Sadly we are no longer local but we still do a 16 mile round trip from Wing to get a takeaway.We've eaten here on many occasions and yes, it can be slow on a busy night, but the staff are so friendly and the food so good that we've never had cause to complain.The onion bhaji's and aloo gobi are my favourite sides. Every main I've had has been amazing. The husband always has the chefs selection platter for two as a main course! Cannot recommend highly enough

This is one of the best curries I have had!!! The madras was lovely and fresh!! My partner had a korma and he said it was the best he's had!!The staff were very friendly and even offer a complimentary box of chocolates when you take out ! I'm glad this is just down the road from me ! Great food on my doorstep !

I have visited this restaurant a few times over the last couple of years. Eaton Bray is close to where I live but we have an excellent Indian restaurant in our own village so I usually eat there. I have to say I have never been disappointed at Café Masala, though the food is slightly different to my 'local'. I enjoy Dhansak dishes and I find Café Masala's a little sweet for my liking but not at all unpleasant. I would recommend their Onion Bhajis though. It's worth ordering them just for the novelty factor and to watch people's faces, who haven't had them before, when they arrive at the table. One portion consists of two bhajis the size of large grapefruits ! They are superb but they would feed a family of 4 ! The service is always good, the waiters attentive and the menu is varied and comprehensive. All in all, a very god Indian restaurant.

This restaurant was without a doubt the best Indian restaurant in the area. Due to its village location we only attended 2-3 times a year. It was consistently very good and I always had the lamb madras with my wife predominantly having the chicken dhansak. The madras had tender lean lamb as usual however it was dark red in colour and although tasty had too much chilli powder in the sauce. Sadly the dhansak was pure sugar and inedible. We had a chicken rice which has also always been very good, was also too greasy. I haven't seen Tariq's friendly face at the restaurant for a long time. The staff member that we did speak to didn't seem too concerned. We will definitely be giving this place another go, I just hope this was a glitch.

It was a Monday lunchtime and my friend and I fancied nothing more than a fine Indian meal. When we heard that Eaton Bray hosted this award-winning institution there really was no question - we had to go there. Unfortunately the bland experience was just a touch below average.We were greeted by a bland man (waiter at a push) in a yellow Nike T shirt with his iPod earphones hanging out. He appeared disgruntled by our sudden arrival at his empty, silent restaurant. We were seated in a nonchalant manner and had were passed the menus with little comment. The waiter, still disinterested, skulked off to text on his phone while leaning against the vacant bar. We then requested some music and were acknowledged with a nod, before a waft of traditional, bland Asian music came on faintly over the restaurant's tinny sound systemWe realised that our bland meal was off to a disastrous start when it came to ordering our drinks; we were told that draught beer was not an option at lunchtime, and much to our dismay that poppadoms were also off the menu at lunchtime as it was 'not worth cooking them' with so few people in the restaurant.The Chef's Special Platter was satisfactory, ranging from the nondescript, bland, curried cubed chicken breast to the more palatable naan-wrapped lamb koftas. All in all, a pleasing starter despite the absence of the samosas (the only thing our waiter could remember when recounting the contents of the platter).On to the mains...Presentation was nice. Separate bowls for the rice and just the right amount of food. I enjoyed my Jalfrezi, which had the perfect amount of heat from the green chillies. My compatriot however was presented with a shockingly bland lamb rogan josh. While the lamb was tender it was very much lacking in seasoning and fragrance, and was overpowered by tomato. Mushroom and pilau rices were adequate. The garlic and coriander naan really was the meal's saving grace (hallelujah) and made for some tasty DIY curry sandwiches!In fairness to Mr. Nike, our table was visited fairly frequently throughout the meal, and we were asked how we found it. But considering the emptiness of the restaurant, this was to be expected. Obviously, being English, we nodded and gave the chef our compliments, while underneath we were seething at the bland array of food that lay in front of us.The dining experience was interrupted frequently by the local handymen, who made regular trips to and from the kitchen with various industrial tools throughout our meal. Understandably we were visiting at an off-peak time but this was still annoying, as the music soon came to a halt and we were left to resume our meal in what would have been silence, had it not been for the relentless buzzing of houseflies around our table.I must say, the Jalfrezi and naan were pleasant, alongside a fairly good effort from the Chef's Sharing Platter, so a 6/10 is fair for these items. Unfortunately, these were let down by the other items, namely the rogan josh as well as the less-than-charismatic waiter. Lovely guy but seriously lacking in customer service/English Language/memory/hospitality skills and professionalism.Builds: - Work on the spice and flavouring of the curry dishes, as there is definitely something to work from here - all it will take is a little attention to take these dishes from average to spectacular. - Service. Stop looking at your phone :) - Serve poppadoms and draught beers all day long

A fantastic night at a fully packed restaurant. The set menu for the evening was varied and tasted wonderful. Never rushed, courses were delivered and explained by very experienced and friendly staff. The format of the evening was well laid out with it ending with champagne and all patrons joining in the festive moment. Came yesterday evening & had a 1st class experience. waiters very attentive & food exceptional. What a difference from our last meal out last Wednesday at Black Rabbit Arundel, staff there need to visit Masala for customer training !!! Thank you very much will certainly return.
