What a lovely find. I can remember the Arts centre and they had an anniversary celebration going on when I first revisited at the end of last month. i since have been back twice! Anyway the first time had delicious coffee and a very tasty bacon and mushroom quiche with salad. Mm! Second time coffee and a yogurt flapjack fab as well!

I visited this tea room twice in May what a great venue for a lunchtime snack. The food that is served is mainly vegetarian and the staff are really helpful, especially the two ladies on my second visit, think their names were Suzanne & Helen, nothing was two much trouble a credit to the establishment. The only thing I could suggest to improve the menu would be to perhaps offer some meat based food for those who are not vegetarians. The tea & coffee is excellent. I would recommend everyone visit.

We had a wonderful afternoon tea at the Orial cafe in Llantarnam Grange. The table was set beautifully and the staff couldn’t do enough for us. One of our party was a vegan and, despite them never having prepared a vegan tea before, it was delicious. All the food was homemade and gorgeous. The tea was served on proper china and the teapots didn’t leak! We are all sat here very full indeed with boxes of left over cakes to tempt us later! Even the baby! We will definitely be back. Thank you for a lovely afternoon.

My favourite café in Cwmbran, this is a great place to pause for a cuppa or a snack. The food is lovely and well presented. Prompt service from friendly staff. Clean. And the added benefit of top class works of art and craft to look at, many of which are for sale. It's a win win.

Excellent afternoon tea with 6 friends today. Our table looked beautiful, set up with all decorated China crockery, so much attention to detail with small bows around our cutlery it looked wonderful. The food was delicious as always, sandwiches, cakes, tarts and the scones were fantastic. Excellent value for money we all had cakes to take home as we just couldn't eat any more. The food is always excellent and would now definitely recommend afternoon tea as well.

I visited this lovely cafe recently for afternoon tea with family. We were all very impressed, the food was not only delicious but beautifully presented. The staff were very welcoming and it was evident that a lot of effort had gone into the food. Not to mention it's very well priced considering the amount of food you get! I Will definitely be recommending to friends

Went to the cafe today with my grandfather after weeks of him saying how its the best coffee in cwmbran, I now too think its the best coffee in cwmbran! Lovely little cafe with a selection of cakes that are beautiful and delicious, the decor of the cafe makes it such a nice and calm place to go for a coffee and cake, very satisfied customer and will be with you again soon! This cafe really deserves more attention than it looks like it gets, staff are lovely too! With a exhibition in the same building as a café you really shouldnt say no :-) thoroughly enjoyed my time at Llantarnam Grange arts centre and cafe and I definitely recommend :-)

Shamefully, even though i’ve lived in Torfaen most of my life, this was my first visit... The lunch was lovely!! Myself and my husband had jacket potatoes with cheese and salad. Piping hot and a great portion size. We were very happy and then we saw the cakes, so obviously had to try those too! Yummy!! I was going to buy some jams and pickles but i’ll pick them up next time! The lady and gentleman that served us were super friendly and the food tasted great. Prices were good and the place has a nice atmosphere. We’ll be back!

Called in today at 12.25 and tried to order three soups only to be told that they had just sold the last portion.I couldn't believe it as their lunchtime trade only started at 11.30am and this is half term week when more customers are likely to visit. I tried to get a feed back form at reception (they didn't have any) and whilst there a member of staff came and said they now had some soup. I expressed my shock that they had sold out at what was basically the start of their busy period and was told they had had a busy morning.and as the soups are freshly made, this was why they had run out. Management need to look at food preparation. It may be that as they had been so busy no-one was available for food prepping. either more staff needed or better organisation.

Popped in at 2.45. Asked what the soup was and was told they had stop serving food. Menus were still out on which it is stated that food is served until 3pm. Another customer was then delivered a bowl of soup. Why were menus out if food was no longer being served and was it just me they didn't want to serve?I used to use this cafe quite regularly however have decided that there are plenty of other places who serve at the times they say. There were plenty of cakes which were offered and this seems to be the focus sadly I wanted a late lunch so I'll not be rushing back as this is the 2nd disappointing experience.

Today I had afternoon tea with family and friends for my hen party. There was 12 of us, and there was so much food, turkey, ham, beef, cheese and cucumber sandwiches. A cupcake each, chocolate brownies, Victoria sponge, chocolate malteaser cake, meringue and lemon drizzle, and so much fresh fruit, and then scones with jam and cream. I have probably forgotten something but it was just so incredible. The room was done up to a girls dream tea, balloons and bunting, tea pots and fancy cups. Everyone was catered for, allergies were taken into account and the staff were always there for more tea, coffee or water anything we needed. I had such a special day and the staff here made it even more special, I can't thank everyone that was involved enough for what they had done. And I know there will be more bookings coming your way from people who were there with me today.

We visited as a family of 3 adults and two tweens and a 3 year old. They serve a children's afternoon tea for those under 7 (or can cater for any fussy tastes if you request it). We had an enormous amount of sandwiches (cheese, tuna, ham and cucumber) between us. The 3yo old had his own teeny sandwich versions with minature tea (squash filled) pot and cakes. There were enough cakes to sink a battle ship. Scones with clotted cream, blueberry muffins, lemon curd filled meringue and fresh strawberries and cream. There was an endless supply of tea and coffee. The staff couldn't do any more for us. They provided colours for the kids and there were toys if we needed. They even cleared a table and brought some over. One of my kids is a fussy eater, I didn't make a fuss and she didn't eat just pushed a bit of ham around her plate. They made her her own sandwiches and got her her own ice-cream and cake. They go way beyond customer service. You just need to ask. Super friendly, lovely lovely place.

A disappointing experience today. No soup - informed as the weather was hot, this limits choice even further as the menu is limited anyway. Poor selection of cakes which looked a bit old. When I asked for one of the rather nice looking scones I was told they were special and for the booked afternoon teas, I was there at 12.45! The young woman serving was pleasant but lacked any sense of customer service. I had to ask for napkins, and milk for our tea. I visit this cafe regularly but of late the service and selection has been poor. I get a sense that they focus more on the pre- booked afternoon teas than general customers now.

Popped in here on Sat for a coffee; sadly disappointed, service was very very slow, I think there was a function on somewhere as ladies kept passing in large jugs of juice and flasks. Had a small scone and it was small but I will say it was delicious but not worth the £2.00 I was charged. Looking at the menu it should have come with butter but all I received was the scone on a plate looking somewhat lonely. Basically it has potential but needs to be staffed to deal with functions as well as off the street customers - to be fair the staff apologised for the long wait.

The finishing touches right down to the heart-shaped croutons in the soup, a shared salad platter and 3 different cakes with our coffee cut up to share made our dining experience feel all the more special. A first time visitor to Cwmbran, I consulted Tripadvisor to find somewhere a little different to meet a friend for coffee. What a pleasure it was, and only minutes away from the bustle of the shopping centre A warm welcome waited as soon as we went through the door. Lovely coffee, served in pretty china. No rush or stress. So good was it, that we braved the rain for a hour's shopping then went back for lunch . The menu is light - soups, salads, paninis etc, but freshly prepared , and sandwiches served with a generous and varied side salad . The Arts centre itself is lovely. My only suggestion , which is utterly personal, is that only savoury scones were on offer- I would have quite liked a scone and jam with my morning coffee. However, the delightful waitress did offer an excellent alternative in the form of a toasted teacake with its own little pot of jam. Hats off for initiative! To be recommended.

My second review - still good - but no bread? Oriel serves a basic range of food to a very high standard but, on this occasion? No baguette and had run out of some fillers...and at 12.50 pm. Sorry, should have the basics in place. Anyone can do a basic sandwich at home but we wanted something a little different, hence the fact that we were at Oriel with great expectations! Sadly, on this occasion, Oriel didn't deliver the goods! Here's to next time (as it's still a great little cafe!).

The best thing about it is that it's a little off the beaten track, it's quiet, it caters nicely for children, and you can take your tea and cake outside and eat it off a picnic blanket. However, the icing on the cake for me is that it's all done with proper bone china, teaspoons, china jugs and knitted woolly tea cosies. The Oriel Cafe and Gallery is only a few minutes walk from the shopping centre in Cwmbran, but it is worth the effort. Set in the grounds of Llantarnam Grange Arts Centre, it is a peaceful alternative to the generic cafe shops and restaurants you find in the shopping centre. The food is all freshly prepared, with home made soups, cakes and sandwiches. The menu is not extensive, but there is enough to please most people and vegetarians are well catered for. There is a cooked breakfast for both meat eaters and vegetarians in the morning and their menu for the afternoon changes from season to season. They try to locally source their ingredients. Their coffee and Tea are also excellent. The cafe is cosy and well lit. It is not massive, but you can always call ahead and book a table. Examples of local artists are displayed on the walls. The service is friendly and attentive. Once you have finished in the cafe, you can explore the gallery. There are at least 3 rooms with a variety of painters, sculptors and craft-work. It’s nice to have a look around and see what the local artists are producing.
