Cafe Ginger in South Ayrshire

Always great food and fantastic value. Can be a bit busier these days with all the people that have moved to Ayr but the girls get through everyone as quick as possible.

I haven't been here in years but remembered the lovely sandwiches and decided to pay a visit. A few changes... The main one being that there are no longer any seats or table service. There was a massive queue for takeaway though so I get why they might focus on that. I ordered a ham sandwich with mustard mayo. As I remembered the bread was freshly baked and thick cut, the ham was tender, though a bit salty for my taste, and the mustard mayo added a nice punch. This business has been going for a long time and it's clear why! For two large sandwiches I paid around £7, so very good value.

It made me wish I lived in Ayr! The sandwich was heavenly and the rocky road almost worth driving back for (from Edinburgh). It was spectacular!! If you are anywhere near there...go! And very reasonable prices.

Went to this place on a whim to grab some food for a little picnic my friend and I were having. So good! The bread is delicious, both the white and granary. The roast chicken sandwich was so delicious that we went back the next day for two more. The staff was very friendly, patient, and helpful both times (even when it was very busy). I highly recommend this place to anyone who is lucky enough to be able to go!

The sandwiches out of here are the best you can get anywhere!

Great place for a quick sandwich soup coffee etc. Staff are lovely, the chicken baguettes are very good! You can phone ahead to order and they even deliver locally

Very gd sandwiches however they had obviously ran out of chicken mayo so just put mayo on the bread then plain roast chicken. This was just a minor issue as the food was very gd and portions were large as always.

Food excellent,staff very friendly and great value for money. Will defo be back. Stopped by to pick up breakfast after walking the dog. Service was great and will make it a regular thing. Chicken salad sandwich was huge, had to save half for lunch £2.75. Would highly recommend.

An amazing afternoon tea today. We got to takeaway, was lovely, excellent value for money.

Absolutely terrible step in door staff are wrapped up in there own business. Take a chair table is dirty and menu sticks to ur hand .Girl was asked to clean table it got a very half hearted wipe on to floor not a spry nothing. We just left still no interest from staff .such a shame if that is what tourists have to suffer. I am from Ayr so disappointed. A good clean and sharp up of staff .

Second chance for this cafe......but will be its last. No acknowledgement on entering despite staff standing chatting, dirty table covered in crumbs, greasy menu and upon asking for the table to be wiped when asked for our order, the waitress did so grudgingly and in a clear display of "inconvenience" at being asked, swept all the debris onto the floor. At this point we left!! I have no doubt that this is a really good every day cafe, but with customer service like this, I wont be giving it another chance to find out!!

Visiting Ayr I've been exercising most mornings with long walks seaside & around the City. I average about an hour & half per day & like to reward myself with a hot drink somewhere when I'm done. Sad to say I haven't found anywhere in the week Ive been here... until this morning. Cafe Ginger opens at 6.30am, it serves light snacks to a full breakfast and portions are generous. I ordered soup with granary bread & butter. Thrilled to get a big bowl of piping hot soup with two slices of bread that looked like doorstops... and for less tha £3! Bravo! No wonder it's a favourite with tradesmen on their way to work. It's a favourite of mine now too & I will tell everyone I can in the few days I'm still in Ayr.

This is actually the best sandwhich shop in Ayrshire and the prices are really cheap considering the amount you get. Its the best value for money and all the staff are lovely and like a good bit of banter.

Me and my partner came to the establishment a few days ago to grab a bite to eat. We didn't know that our waiter would be the famous football reserve for Ayr United - Finn Ecrepont! We were delighted to have gotten to meet him as well as grab a bite to eat. tHE FOOD WAS VERY WELL PRICED AND TATSY TO.

Friendly local cafe food made fresh early in the morning.

Our school orders lunch every Friday for a treat. Never disappointed and always get what I ask for. The lunch is large enough and fills me up. Fresh products and would definitely recommend to anyone.

Fab food, awesome sandwiches, somewhat all let down by cheap coffee and rude staff. It's the sort of clique place where you're not spoken to unless you're a regular, even shunned when paying and tipping. Would still recommend a visit to get food though, just take it out and you're good. Sandwiches are like door stops!!!

We visited this establishment very early in the morning upon our return from holidaying abroad . We were all very tired and Ed [ the proprietor ] could not have been more charming or helpful . The cooked breakfast was the best I have ever tasted , top quality fare and cooked to perfection . The cafe itself is beautiful and immaculate and our young son loved his breakfast . [There is a delicatessen conjoined to the cafe , which is also owned by Ed ] . We shall certainly return to this gem of a cafe and I highly recommend a visit .

Food is fantastic. Really thick sandwiches for a really good price. Don't know if i'd recommend sitting in, though. It's quite noisy so hard to chat if you're with a group.

Go here if you want a really tasty sandwich. Cakes on display are also very very nice, and I believe there home made. Not very spacious when it comes to sitting in, though. Tables are very close together and a bit cramped. Staff are chatty and friendly. I would visit again.

Pop in every lunch time when I'm at work. Sandwiches and cakes are absolutely top notch! Would highly recommend.

Our staff visit Cafe Ginger each day from AMS and are met with pleasant helpful staff and the service is excellent. Good value for money and well worth a visit.

A year ago some of the local rugby men took me for breakfast here. A year later my son dragged me back for a brunch and I can see why. The place is quant and very tight seating but with those negatives I would still go back, serious value for money and it is very home away from home cooking. Love this little place and I know my sons will frequent gingers on a regular basis whilst in ayr. I look forward to the next visit.

Great food and friendly staff couldn't be more helpful. We were a large family group but were all served quickly and looked after perfectly. Breakfast was superb. Really pleased we found this little gem of a cafe. Good location just round corner from great children's park and nice seafront.

Lovely sandwiches and toasties, very reasonably priced. They were running out of some fillings when we arrived. Certainly recommend.

Love Cafe Ginger so much we visit about once a month and never had a bad visit yet . Toasties are great on big thick slices of bread and served with a lovely salad . Their cakes are amazing especially the truffles and scones . Prices are fab too . Wish it was open on a Sunday though as we can only get down on a Saturday .

Best homemade soup made daily, pâté and cheese to die for! Charming friendly staff and you can park outside!!!

I was going to visit friends, stopped off to cafe ginger, for a variety of filled sandwiches and cakes, the were delicious everyone enjoyed them, staff were lovely, nothing was to much bother.

Cafe Ginger is a gem. They do the most amazing food. I love the granary sandwich.. It's like a doorstop but so tasty.. Fab food and excellent service. You can sit in but I normally get a takeaway as I work nearby.

After hearing wonderful reviews of Cafe ginger i thought I must try it for myself! One afternoon I decided to try it to be rudely turned away and told they had nothing left but soup, not even a hello. A few days later we decided to try again and thought we must be there earlier this time, just after one we arrived to find only a limited selection of fillings left, being spoken to rudely again we proceeded to order a roll and sandwich with were made up and given to us, at a reasonable price! Fair to say what we had was lovely and very fresh but just felt that customer service could do with a bit of work and also an increase in stock to cope with demand!

Wish I'd known about this place before. Had perfect scoff on election day with friends. Service fast, friendly, faultless food ( broccoli soup & soft bread, scrambled eggs & bacon with thick toast), perfectly cooked. Served with a smile despite the constant line at the counter for takeaway, a sure sign that the staff are all on the ball.

Opens early on a Saturday for morning shoppers I had French toast with bacon my husband and daughter had cooked breakfast it was all lovely

I use Cafe Ginger for delivery of lunches when we have visitors on site at work, the food is lovely, fresh and well presented. The cakes are to die for. The delivery is always on time and staff are courteous and helpful. In some cases visitors to site are without warning but Cafe Ginger always manage to deliver no matter what.

I love Cafe Ginger and make no secret of it. The cakes are awesome. I can't get enough of the coffee. But the best thing ever has to be the date and walnut scones....yummy !

I go to cafe Ginger everyday, the food is always fresh, the sandwiches are well worth the price, nice homemade soups everyday. The cakes are good too. The staff are always friendly. It has such a nice atmosphere.

I used to eat out if here very often for lunch as the sandwiches and the cakes are delicious. I will agree with the other comments that the staff are very rude! It doesn't take much to smile and say thanks.

I have been going here for years to get my packed lunch to take down to the river, it's an institution. Fast, friendly efficient service. Good food, what more could one want, stop here breakfast/lunch and you won't do better.

Food is fantastic. my favourites are the sandwiches with proper bread and the homemade soups but the cakes are equally delicious. Good to have real food instead bland mass produced mush, Great lunchtime stop.

I have gone to cafe ginger on several occasions in the last 6 years as its close to my work, every time I go I leave feeling angry that I have had to endure the service of some really terribly rude staff. It is actually quite disgusting given that they are so busy and their food is really nice. Also don't enjoy the fact that the staff handle money and sandwiches in the same transaction without the use of gloves or hand washing.

I have used Cafe Ginger for more than 10 years now. They always serve great food at a fair price and are extremely generous with the portions.

I've lived in Ayr for 7 years now and had no idea this place existed. On the ferry to Arran recently our friends had brought sandwiches for the crossing......wow...they were awesome!! Lovely thick bread and very tasty fillings.A good size if you're hungry....they would choke a horse! On our return to the mainland 3 days later with hangovers from hell we had to go back ourselves for another batch to make us feel better...they had the desired effect. Good value compared to the puny pre packed supermarket stuff that has been lying for days and these could not be made fresher. Also paid a visit to the deli next door and pleased to see Arran cheese we had bought in bulk during our trip. We're converted....

I had recently been to Cafe Ginger in the summer of 2011, it was a lovely experience with lovely food, staff and overall great atmosphere. However, I've never made such a terrible choice to visit the cafe in my life. As soon as we walked in we were approached by a rather grumpy waitress who began to tell us there was no bread, ham, chicken etc. She then stood over us while we decided which was rude. After my friend asked her to repeat why they had she did so with hesitation and such a bad attitude. She then brought over whiskey classes for us to drink our colas out of. To add on to the never ending list of ridiculous behaviour, both waitresses then began whispering behind the counter. As our food was ready, she slammed the plate down in front of us and stormed away. Safe to say we will never be back and I do hope that te waitress is brought to the attention of the manager. Absolutley ridiculous.

I have had a lunch from Cafe Ginger a few times now at work but never actually visited the shop. We buy it in for special occassions and they deliver it to our work place which is very handy. It is good value for money for sanwiches/wraps and cakes (usually about £4 a head) and they provide a good range of fillings. I am not so keen on things like prawns and coronation chicken but there is usually plainer fillings available like tuna and cheese. There cakes are also very nice. Will definately have again and will visit the shop for lunch next time I am near by :-)

This small cafe sells fantastic sandwiches and cakes "to go" Thick slabs of bread loaded with the freshest of fillings. The cakes are delicious and the prices ar so reasonable. They also do tradiotional "fry ups". Something for everyone really

Prices are O.K. for average food when eating in, but carry out sandwiches are good and with low prices. The decor is dull but it is close to the bus garage and sea front. Ideal for a family on a budget.

By far the freshest made sandwiches you'll ever buy. Eddie and his staff are brilliant and you will never be hungry after a soup or sandwich combo. I've bought platters too for work colleagues and they are great value. The queue at lunchtimes says it all.

I´d just walked out of Wellington´s in high dudgeon and needed something to eat in a hurry. Cafe Ginger soon calmed my ruffled feathers. The atmosphere was nice, the staff friendly and the prawn sandwich excellent - tasty and fresh. The experience restored my faith in human nature :)

Cafe Ginger is by far the best place in Ayr for lunches and breakfasts. Knowing everything is fresh and prepared that day makes all the difference. The staff are friendly and welcoming and are very alert to your needs. I return to Cafe Ginger again and again to sit in and to take away. The portion sizes are amazing, it's a wonder why the prices aren't through the roof.

Cafe Ginger is definetly the best place to go for sandwiches in Ayr....bread is always really fresh, nice and thickly cut, fillings are really tasty. Made to order so you get exactly what you want. home baking is lovely. Brilliant value for money!

Could quite happily buy my lunch from here every day but settle for a couple of times a week - my homemade sandwich on the other days just isn't the same. The bread is gorgeous be it toasted or in a sandwich, love the granary bread, also do really nice baguettes.

food selection is fab. sandwich types and fillings are great, always fresh. homebaking lovely and nice coffee
