We stopped in Penrith on our way to our caravan, looking for somewhere to eat lunch. We decided to give this cafe a try as we hadn’t been here before. The owner was very welcoming and friendly which was a good start. He explained what was on the specials board and I decided to go for the lamb tagine and my husband opted for the bobotie. Both were absolutely delicious. Good, wholesome, hearty food. We will definitely be going back when we return to Penrith again. Highly recommended.

Lovely cafe with excellent food.Five of us went for lunch to celebrate my Mum’s birthday.Lovely surroundings and very attentive server who, i assume, was one of the owners. One of our party had an allergy to a certain ingredient and made this known.I was particularly impressed with the way this was handled.I work in the industry myself and I know how important it is that outlets are aware of allergens and their possible effects. The gentleman went out of his way to check ingredients and offered possible alternatives.A very enjoyable lunch.I was visiting my mother but next time I am in Penrith I shall certainly be calling in there.

It was a wet & rainy day that found us in Penrith. We asked a local for a good coffee shop and were recommended the Cafe-Dawn Marie. We were warmly greeted and had a mixture of sweet treats, coffee and tea. Great location next to a beautiful church

Found it by chance while looking for a dog friendly place for lunch. The room was bright and clean looking, all the crockery looked like it was out of a Miss Marple set, the staff were superb and the food was excellent. In all it was everything to be expected from a "proper" tea room, they even gave the dog a mat to lie on! Fantastic experience.

Popped in today and it was excellent as always. Great staff, great food and a lovely location just off the high street and facing the church: which was looking magical today all covered in frost.

We received a warm welcome, even though it was close to their closing time. The café has a calm atmosphere, right by St Andrews. We had tea and scones, served on elegant china. I noticed that they do a range of meals. The specials board included the South African dish babotie. I look forward to trying that on my next visit.

Found this delightful little cafe quite by chance, after sitting in another Penrith tea house for half an hour, waiting to be served, seeing no staff whatsoever-- except somebody leaning on a counter in the kitchen -- and finally walking out to look elsewhere. Thus, by sheer luck we came upon Cafe Dawn-Marie! We sat in the outside flower garden, which is a perfect spot with cover in case of rain. Although we only stopped in for cappuccinos, we enjoyed it so much that we stayed for lunch, and then came back later for tea, scones and crumpets! The food was delicious and the service very friendly and quick. It has the feel of a family-run establishment with food home-made to order and great attention to the tiniest, charming details. Can highly recommend! Wish we could go back, but we are now home again in New York, alas!

On a recent visit to Penrith I wanted to visit St Andrew's Church and found the Dawn-Marie cafe right outside it's gates. The welcome is very warm and friendly. They put two tables together so the 3 of us could sit together. It is beautifully decorated, there is no music so ou can have a nice chat hoorah. We actually visited twice in one day. 1st Visit for coffee and cake. Hubby had a black Americano, our friend had a hot chocolate and I had a cappuccino. All were fine, for me personally I prefer my cappuccino to more foamy but that is just a personal preference and it tasted fine. Hubby and I had a very delicious almond and raspberry slice which was very moist and tasted delicious. Our friend had a fruit scone, which they warmed for him. He enjoyed that. The cake choice is a little limited but still a choice. 2nd visit. We enjoyed our first visit so much that later one after we had been walking around Penrith all morning we went back for lunch. They had a fairly standard light lunch menu with a few specials. I had the jacket potato with cheese, beans and a salad. It was very nice, a little small for most places but that was actually a good thing for me because usually the huge jacket potatoes are way too much. My hubby and our friend tried their South African dish called Bobotie (pronounced ba-boor-tea). We had not heard of this dish before, but it was explained to us what it was (I won't say on here so you can discover it for yourselves). It came with rice, a tiny pot of vegetables and salad. They both thoroughly enjoyed it. They said the portion size was spot on and the rice accompanied it perfectly. Totally delicious and recommended. We prefer to eat inside and that was very pleasant, however I understand they have a lovely back garden and most people went out there, which is why we managed to get a table so easily I think. I would recommend this place, especially if you like pleasant surroundings and great service together with nice food with no noisy music. When I next go to Penrith I will visit again.

Pleasant location. The cafe looks inviting. Warm welcome. The staff seem a bit confused - empty cafe, but all the seats were reserved, so they were uncertain where guests could seat. An hour later, the mystery continues, as more guests came in, but all the tables were still reserved. Coffee served ok. Limited range of cakes. Scones were on the dubious side of suspect. They ought to be fresh (even if shop bought) but I suspect these had been aged a little Staff very friendly, and very keen to provide good service. Apologized for the scones, so I did not feel to bad about that.

Lovely cafe near the church. Lovely staff. We had sandwiches and soup and the children and myself and husband were all very happy with what we had. They have an amazing specials board that I noticed too late unfortunately! So make sure you check it out before you order! The toilets are so cute too! We popped in whilst doing a treasure trial around Penrith and it was quiet but I think it would probably get busy although they had a lot of tables and there is an outside bit too I think.

What a lovely cafe. A warm welcome by the proprietor and a bright white interior looks clean and fresh and shows off the beautiful old china on display and the vases of fresh flowers. Had freshly baked scones and an almond and raspberry slice which was delicious. Tea came in a china pot with a china cup and saucer and a good sized cappuccino at a reasonable price. Worth a visit to the toilet to see the spectacular wallpaper. Will definitely be back to sample the lunch menu.

The two gentlemen who run this stylish cafe have created a lovely little oasis in a charming part of Penrith. The cakes are delicious and it’s the first time I’ve ever had a chocolate scone- it was as good as it sounds. The breakfast is very nice and there is a sweet little outside back yard full of plants. The two gentlemen who run the cafe clearly have a flair for design and are alway friendly and welcoming without being over facing. I like it there a lot.

I thought long and hard about this review and whether I should write it or not, but I decided that I needed to give others a view of our meal at studio five. We booked the pre-show dinner for my daughter and grandson from America as we were taking them to see Starlight express. When we arrived, the menu had changed and we were given a “festive” menu. Not the one I’ve seen when we were booking. Given the limited options three of us chose to have the roast turkey dinner, my grandson who didn’t actually want anything on the menu opted for the Ox cheeks after some discussion. Well, what can I say in terms of the roast turkey dinner? We were very disappointed. There was one roast potato two pieces of carrot some kale and Brussels sprouts two slices of turkey breast resting on less than a tablespoon of stuffing and a soubsant of gravy. The Brussels sprouts were uncooked and crunchy. The kale was tough and difficult to chew. I’ve had better dinners in my life working in schools cooked by our school cooks. My grandson tried the ox cheeks but couldn’t eat them. The upshot of it was two of our party left walked down the road in the pouring rain to McDonald’s and proceeded to order food and eat it on the way back to the restaurant. We then went onto the desert. We chose to have the brownie sundae and the fruit crumble. The fruit was tasty, but the crumb dusting on the top didn’t resemble any crumble at all and the pieces of brownie in the sundae were rockhard and there were no hazelnuts and raisins as described on the menu All in all I think the cost of the meal was not value for money at over £30 a head.

Somewhere that every petrol head should visit at least once. Lovely atmosphere and great fun learning about the history of the place. If we lived closer we would definitely hit this up more often.
