The cafe is on the first floor of Heal’s house & furniture store. We had been in the cafe before & enjoyed the meal. We had difficulty in finding a free table as it was busy. There was a good selection of items on the menus. The food was delicious & just the right portions for lunch. The staff was friendly & service was efficient. The atmosphere was good. I recommend the cafe for a quick bite & a break from shopping.

Pleasant environment. We visited Friday lunchtime and were surprised to see many empty tables. We tired of waiting for our order to be taken so approached a waitress who was taking an order at another table from a couple that came in after us. No apology given. We finally received our food which was very good. My partner had salad which was very fresh. I had cooked vegetables in a rosemary sourdough roll To sum up, comfortable environment, Excellent food. Staff not especially helpful, perhaps they should remember that a smile makes everyone happy.

This was our first visit to this lovely cafe situated on the 1st floor of Heals Tottenham Court Road. We were too early to chose from the lunch menu which started at midday so ordered off the breakfast menu but weren't disappointed. The food was delicious and they serve wonderful coffee. There was a really nice buzzy feel and the staff were lovely and very keen to please. Would definitely return if we are in the area again.

After a number of hours in Heals looking at furniture options for an imminent house move we eagerly escaped to the calmness of the cafe. A very nice coffee and cakes followed in a really nice space. Furniture from the store means that it’s nicely furnished and the music helped create a chilled atmosphere. My only complaint was that on the counter was a sigh saying not to order there as it was table service. However, after 15 minutes of waiting we had to go to the bar to order ( it wasn’t particularly busy so not sure what happened). On paying the bill I saw that there was an added gratuity of £1.50 which seemed a bit strange as the service charge wasn’t really paying for any level of service - just a tray brought to our table which kind of feels like the bare minimum you would expect for the price of a coffee! Would go back if in Heals again as everything else was decent apart from the non existent service you get charged for whether you like it or not!

I hadn't been here since 2005. The place has changed-higher ceilings, plaster removed, brick walls exposed-more Manhattan loft style now. The menu offers a good choice-delicious soup, proper chips, large meal portions, salads and interesting cakes. Pots of tea, coffees and various fruit drinks. The staff are helpful and friendly. Service is prompt. No pressure on the customers to hurry. Next time I will stay till late and eat and drink everything.

Hidden at the back of the Heals shop, this isn't busy - at least during weekdays. There are some very comfortable sofas as well as tables. Several people seemed to be working on their laptops, as it's nice and chilled out. Slightly more expensive than the standard chains nearby, but worth it for the calmer atmosphere.

I really really like it here. Lets not beat around the bush - it's a cafe in a department store. There's something about it though, I can't quite put my finger on it. Though I can 100% guarantee that every Sunday I will end up sitting in here for 15 minutes with my wife with of pot of English breakfast tea and a slice of carrot cake, both of which are lovely. I really can't describe what makes me like the place so much, it's weird - yet every Sunday when we are on our weekly central London jaunt, you can guarantee that "do you want to go for a tea at heals?" will be muttered.

Heals is fabulous but the Ambrose cafe is not up to the rest of the store. We stopped in for coffee, service is slow and when I asked for pouring cream for my Americano it was like I asked for rat poison, come on people, low fat is so yesterday! No cream available apparently except they serve it with the scones so I managed to get some of that, bit of a shock for waitress! There is a buzz about the place but that is from the customers, the staff always make any establishment special and they need to speed up and lighten up.Come on people, you work in a beautiful store in one of the world's most amazing cities, cheer up!The coffee was fine, especially with cake cream that I paid 50p extra for:)There is music playing but not too loud and wifi worked well.In context though, you are in Heals, a lovely store where you come and feel inspired and you are expecting a little more than the Ambrose cafe offers.

Having walked around Heal's and loving its style and class it felt like a no brainier to pop in for lunch. Sadly, we were seriously misled. The Welsh Rarebit was just bread with a very spicy, mustardy sauce and no perceptible cheese at all. This is our third visit in a week (using a Taste Card), with my daughter, as a couple and today with a rambunctious 3 year old every time the staff have been courteous and welcoming. Would highly recommend the main courses we have tried the steak salad, open steak sandwich, fish pie and macaroni cheese with spring veg, all full of flavour. But be aware they add peppercorn to meals before serving so let them know not too for younger dinners . Desserts have been a little bit of a let down, but the decaf coffee is a full roast coffee, excellent as a cappuccino. Would recommend the carrot cake and oatmeal cookie with your coffee if your just in for a rest, on their relaxing sofas whilst shopping.

It was advertised at the entrance as a workspace cafe. After walking all around Heal's to find the cafe when I came, even though half of the cafe was empty I was not allowed to sit in the area where you could sit comfortably and charge your laptop. I usually go to cafes and order coffee and food during the day whilst I work. Before I could even say anything I was bombarded with "are you eating or not?" and was told I could not sit there to work even though a lot of people were sitting there with laptops. I asked about why they were there then and she told me I was not allowed to sit there if I don't order food. I understand why they might have this policy as it's their own business (I personally wouldn't employ rude people and have such policies for a simple cafe in a shop), but I found this woman rude and decided not to stay and go instead to cafe nero where they do not question your stay on whether you will spend a lot of money or not. I would have probably ordered food, but the fact she was so rude about it made me want to leave immediately and not come back.

I spend a fair bit of time in London on business but do not have a formal office so have found the Café at Heal's invaluable. This café is situated on the 1st floor of the department store (opposite Goodge Street station) and offers a good range of sandwiches, cakes, teas and coffees but from my perspective the best part is they are more than happy for you to sit in comfort and hold informal business meeting with colleagues. The WiFi is both free and relatively fast and there are a number of tables where you can happily plug in your laptop and work for a couple of hours. I should, of course, add that the food is great and good value for money. Just watch out the sandwiches can be massive and will probably feed two people - so if you do order one make sure you are hungry.

Just been enticed up to the cafe with a free coffee whilst shopping at the beautiful heal's.This has been the worst service and breakfast I have had within London... Burnt coffee, hard poached eggs on a wet plate, warm water with a roll of the eyes when I asked for it. The waiter, once I had his attention, stood still as if I were expected to shout my order for water across the room. The granola with "a choice of yoghurt" doesn't actually have a choice of yoghurt. Good tea. Nice glassware. Nice lay out.All of these things do not apply... The service has been lowly informal, base and dismissive and I'm waiting 5 mins, still, on the bill. Please can they just get a good general manager and some staff that aren't tree stumps

Tucked away at the back of Heals on the first floor is a calm beautifully designed cafe. Sofas, arm chairs and lovely Ercol furniture in a light airy room with loads of space between the tables leaving room for peace and quiet even though there was also a lovely buzz. The hot wraps when they finally arrived were tasty too, though covered in hoisin sauce no matter what the filling and there was no garnish to the plate either. However they took an age to come as the service was so slow. The waiter took ages to take the order, the wraps took even longer and the request for a jug of tap water resulted in two small glasses arriving at the table. If you only wanted coffee and cake it came quicker but there were at least two other tables complaining about the slow service at 2pm on a Friday. Come on Heals! With such impeccable taste in design you can do better than this. Either get more staff in the kitchen or reduce the size of the menu and above all, get more or better trained serving staff.

There were a couple of waiters having a chat at the till most of the time we were in there. Coffee arrived followed by the sandwich 5 minutes later. One slice of the bread was very dry as if it had been left out for a few hours. We had to go up to the till to chase the water which had failed to arrive by the time we had nearly finished the sandwich. Heals used to have a great reputation for innovation and creativity, and it would be good if the store put a bit of energy back into this rather sad cafe. The staff were pleasant, the food arrived promptly (soup and salad) and tasted nice. But it wasn't cheap and the atmosphere was rather depressing and it didn't feel either welcoming or somewhere you wanted to linger. On the other hand, others seem to be enjoying it and there were several people having business meetings. It was good quality food but I wouldn't return.

Having bought a gift for someone in Heal's, I was told at the checkout that my receipt entitled me to a free drink in the cafe. As it was 4pm on a Saturday afternoon I thought a tea and cake was in order. The cafe is very large with nice lighting and sofas, as well as tables, but it was completely empty at a time when somewhere like John Lewis cafe would be packed. A waiter approached me and when I asked about herbal tea, he said that if I had a voucher I could only have a coffee. I said that I don't drink coffee and that my receipt said it was a free drink. He responded that the manager had decided that the free drinks could only be coffee. I gave up and ordered a tea and a piece of chocolate cake. The tea was fine (one teapig bag in a large pot), but the chocolate cake was completely stale like toast, perhaps unsurprisingly as it appeared to have been sitting on the side, ready sliced, for most of the day. When I went to pay I looked at the rest of the food and it was rather sorry for itself - limp salads well past their sell-by date. Given that Heal's is supposedly an 'exclusive' shopping destination, I feel that my experience was extremely poor overall. Heal's cafe haven't saved money by not giving me my tea as my 'free drink', because I quite simply will not be going back and spending another penny there, and I will suggest to other people that they avoid it.

I accidentally stumbled across this (new?) cafe in the Heal's store on Tottenham Court Road on a Sunday, and had the entire place to myself. Prices are a bit steep, but not unusual for London, and quality was over all very good. The cafe is probably in the most awkward place in the store, and you have to persevere to find it. Signage is poor, and surely Heal's could make it more obvious that it is there! The immediate setting (next to the wedding list guest) isn't great, but if you want a - seemingly - quiet cafe in the heart of London without a queue, then this could be it! The nearby chain cafes were filled to capacity...The sandwiches are pre-prepared and a little disappointing but the muffins are great (pear and chocolate to be recommended!). Would recommend.

Hidden up in the middle of the second floor, well worth asking to way to. Quite and relaxed.

I hadn’t been to this venue before, but had a good night. Good clientele in an intimate venue. The only downside is if you don’t have ice in your drinks, they don’t fill the glass, leaving a inch from the top. What cheapness. Never seen that before. I’d plan on going back, but hopefully this nonsense will stopped being practiced.

Everything was perfect: the food was exquisite, the service impeccable, and the ambiance cozy and inviting. Each dish was a masterpiece, cooked to perfection. An unforgettable experience that I highly recommend to everyone.

I have visited this coffee shop multiple times and it is just great. The coffee served there is the best you can get in the area!

I attended this coffee shop today and bought an oat cappuccino to take away. On past occasions my cappuccino has split all over my hand so I asked the lady who serves the coffee if she could put cling film over the cup to prevent spillage. She become irritated and snapped. I asked her for a cup holder and she again did not listen and put another cup on top. Subsequently when I reached home the coffee was spilled. I shall not be using the coffee shop again. Very rude lady.
