Stopped here for lunch while visiting Sanquhar and the surrounding area. This cafe is also attached to the local art gallery as many others have said and there are some interesting things on sale, especially with the Sanquhar pattern. The cafe was already full when I arrived, so I had to make a booking for later and come back. At the cafe, the new social distancing and additional hygiene protocols are in place and taken seriously with even a single use menu. First time I’ve seen that so far in any restaurant since the new protocols were in place in Scotland. So kudos for that and maintaining social distancing rules. I ordered a toastie with Branston Pickle & cheese filling, a cup of Latte and an Orange Cheesecake. The toastie was good, probably a little too much pickle, but it went well with the cheese and the combination had a nice bite to it as it should. The Orange Cheesecake was New York style, if not then it was mousse like and very light. I actually prefer the quark version, but it tasted fine. The place was pretty busy for about 2 hours, so kudos to the staff for bringing the food out in good time.

We had lunch in this cafe just after visiting the museum across the road (which is also a gem) and it was excellent. It is very clean and well laid out and the staff were helpful and friendly. We both had the soup and it was delicious. We had come away in a big family group and most of us used the cafe on occasions during our visit and everyone found it good. If we'd had the chance we would have used it again.

What a great place. Such a nice vibe and clearly the hub of the community for kids, parents, visitors, locals. Everything that comes out of the kitchen is amazing especially the soup, the cheese scones and the strawberry tarts. We went for the arts festival and loved it all. There was African drumming and Lowlands poetry but the opera singing blew us away. Can’t wait to visit again. Such a lovely atmosphere and staff who go out of their way to be helpful. Well done to everyone.

To my horror on a return visit after a great initial experience. Someone has put this place into auto destruct. Overpriced badly staffed and don't get me started on the quality of the produce. The owners need a serious look at their business. Starting with the kitchen and the staff. I will not be back.

I passed the workshop adjoining the Arts Centre and could see some fascinating work going on inside. One of the ladies saw me looking and invited me in, wellies and all. I spent a brilliant 40 minutes chatting with the ladies. They explained the history of Sanquhar knitting and the efforts being made to encourage its continuing into the future together with the way they produce garments for sale. Nothing was too much trouble and I had a great time. I was even invited back to have a go myself but felt I had used enough of their valuable time. Thank you so much, you made this tourist feel very welcome.

This is a real community resource as well as a café and shop. The shop sells examples of black and white woollen items created from historic Sanquhar knitting patterns. These patterns are quite unique to the area, knitted with very fine 3 ply wools, the history of which is told in the nearby Tollbooth museum.A good place to buy an unusual gift, visitors could take in this café as part of the Town trail or resting on the Southern Upland Way.

Having walked 8 tough miles on the Southern Upland Way from Wanlockhead to Sanquhar the cafe provided welcome refreshment at the end of our exertions. Friendly staff served most acceptable hot beverages and the cakes looked delicious. An OAPs showing of Sister Act concluded in the upstairs mini cinema whilst we were there and as they settled in the cafe area the staff were a credit dealing with these challenging but delightful customers. The artwork around the gallery was interesting and worth a look.

Being the gastronomic half of the partnership rather than the artistic half, I feel decidedly unqualified here but I did enjoy the visit.A range of paintings, drawings and other crafts housed in a new building with a laid-back atmosphere and a mini-theatre upstairs. Various notices offering tuition in writing, pottery and detailing forthcoming events are indicative of a thriving interest in the local community. And for fellow gastronomes, there's a cafe too!

If you happen to be in Sanquhar, A the Airts is a good place to get a cup of coffee and a snack. While you are there absolutely check out the local arts displayed in the attached arts centre, and the 'Sanquhar pattern' displays of knitted sweaters and other woollens. The local paintings are surprisingly good quality.

This cafe is situated in the main street in Sanquhar, with a small car park close by. Had a lovely cup of coffee and scone. It is open 7 days a week. As well as being a great little cafe offering snacks and drinks it is also a craft shop too for arts, crafts, music and books from. The cafe plays a large part in the local community. It is an art house showing exhibitions of local groups. They also run a varied programme of events throughout the year. They also offer craft and art classes and workshops throughout the year. They have a small theatre in the top of the building with music, poetry, drama as well as shoing films too.Lovely friendly staff who could not have been more friendly. Would definitely recommend popping in if you are in the area. Some outdoor seating behind the cafe too. Popular with locals and visitors alike. They sell some lovely gifts at varying price in the shop.Website address www.all-the-airts.com

The SWI had our Christmas Meal here this year and pre ordered. I had the turkey and trimmings which was served on a huge platter and three huge slices of turkey. Everything cooked to perfection. I took the apple strudel and ice cream - great ice cream. Everyone enjoyed what they had ordered and a lovely atmosphere, and attentive serving staff who were pleased to see us and cheery.

We had a superb midweek supper here with friends in November. Bit of a trek from Dumfries but well worth the visit, and even closer to the M74 for anyone travelling up to Scotland in need of a refreshment. The haggis bites were delicious and the lamb kleftiko simply melted in the mouth. Their Chilean SB was extremely gluggable and very reasonably priced. Abbey and Jack were the best hosts. Highly recommended.
