a couple of friends who are regulars invited me for a late birthday treat, it was very nice, staff were welcoming and helpful

Come for breakfast, the food was lovely and the staff are very friendly. The food is very pleasant to look at not just chucked on. Really good value for money will come back and recommend.

Went with a large group in July 2024 the service was good and the food was better than I expected for the cost. I had probably one of the best hamburgers I have had in many year.

Currently sitting in the rear garden at Cafe 709. It's a lovely sunny day and I have a glass of Prosecco, the best homemade lasagne I've ever tasted and a portion of curly fries. I love this Cafe. The garden is so tranquil, the staff are friendly and attentive and the food is really tasty! Feel lucky to have such a super eatery on my doorstep x

While waiting to have my motorcycle serviced I was advised to try cafe 709. The staff are very friendly, attentive and the food was delicious, even served with a homemade coleslaw that was very tasty.

Wow!!! We held our children's christening celebration at cafe 709 and what can I say? Amazing! Emma and Andy gave lots of time to preparation and details checking allergies and requirements. They allowed me to drop decorations over the night before and the food was laid out impressively. I had so many of our guests appreciate and say how amazed thy were at the venue. Definitely recommend.

I have just had the most wonderful afternoon tea, everything was perfection! The service was A*, we did not want for anything, all needs were catered for. The selection of sandwiches, scones and cakes were bountiful. The presentation was amazing and the atmosphere (created by the owners) was simply delightful. I cannot recommend highly enough.

I went to café 709 for a baby shower, and Andy and Emma made it so lovely. The food was delicious with everyone's needs catered for, service was attentive and the decor was homely and modern, with a lovely outside area. I will be certain to return when I next visit Southend, especially as it introduced me to a much quieter area of the city than I'm used to.

I enquired regarding a birthday tea for my wife. due to lockdown we couldn't really go anywhere. emma was very accommodating and her attention to detail was brilliant. even made up a little personalised cake for our daughter in the.box she had. our daughter was so excited to have her own box of goodies. communication was great and the presentation brilliant. of course, the cakes, sausage rolls and sandwiches were extremely tasty (couldn't get throughout all despite our best efforts!!). highly recommend to anyone!!

I ordered an Afternoon tea for a family get together which included two younger children. Emma and Andy delivered the tea in boxes beautifully tied with ribbon. Inside were two teas for the children, which included finger sandwiches, cakes, shortbread, cut cucumber and carrot sticks and a fruit shoot. The kids absolutely loved having their own boxes.For the adults there were finger sandwiches, along with a vegetarian box of round rolls which were delicious, especially my favourite which was the egg mayonnaise !! There were several types of cakes including mini Victoria sponges and red velvet cupcakes. We also had marshmallow squares which were light and fluffy. The mini shortbread stars were melt in your mouth and the meringue kisses were just lovely too.Not forgetting the scones, clotted cream and Jam. So much food !! Also included in the tea were a very varied selection of fruit and herb teas. I’ve had lots of afternoon teas before but never one delivered to my home and I can honestly say, it was the tastiest.

The sausage rolls, the beef and horseradish sandwiches, chilli jam and cheese, Moroccan hummus ... too much to be able to pick a favourite ! Every one of the items were freshly made, tasted exceptional and I couldn’t be happier with the entire package ! Where to start ?! I am an avid fan of 709, so what better than to see them offering an afternoon tea collection or delivery (distance permitting), during these crazy times ! An abundance of fresh, soft, perfect finger sandwiches, freshly baked sausage rolls and scones, cakes, marshmallows and dipped strawberries ! A gastronomic delight ! We added individual bottles of bubbly, for an extra treat and the packaging was nothing less than beautiful. I collected my order and everything was safe and socially distant with a paypal payment system which makes everything so easy -Card payment also available on collection. I can’t rate this highly enough, having indulged in many an afternoon tea in my time.What makes this so special is the wonderful service and so accommodating for any gluten free / vege etc requests. Also this is all freshly home made, not a pre package in sight !Would recommend in a heart beat but you’d better book ASAP

I had 2 beautifully decorated boxes full of goodies made for my birthday at the end of May. My family and I had all of the sandwiches, cakes, rolls, scones and tea outside in the garden on a lovely sunny afternoon. It really made my lockdown birthday feel special, and we all really enjoyed the freshly made food. I would thoroughly recommend!

Couldn't have asked for a better treat for our daughter's birthday - the tray of food (and assorted tea flavours) came in prettily ribboned boxes and inside the treats were perfect catering for all our tastes!! Absolutely perfect afternoon tea delivered to our door in beautifully ribboned boxes by the lovely Emma and Andy. Sandwiches, filled rolls, sausage rolls, scones, amazing cakes and an assortment of teas. It couldn't have been better for a birthday picnic in the garden with the sun shining and everybody having a great time. Couldn't recommend more!

I phoned and ordered afternoon tea for myself I was given a time slot for the day I wanted I was offered to collect myself or they could deliver I decided to pick it up myself when I arrived my box was waiting for me it was well presented with a lovely bow and label. When I got home and opened my box what a delight it all looked so yummy and it was all very tasty and so fresh there was sandwiches, filled rolls sausage rolls, scone with clotted cream jam, cakes, chocolate strawberries, marshmallow and tea bags. Excellent value for what I paid I have had many afternoon teas and I must say this was the best the beef finger sandwich was amazing and it all homemade. Would I order another afternoon from cafe 709 100% and I will be recommending to all my family and friends.

We collected 7 Afternoon Tea boxes yesterday, all beautifully wrapped and waiting for us at the time we requested. 3 were for a birthday present for my sister-in-law. The others were for us and 2 socially distancing friends, to help this the teas are packed in two’s.The boxes were an absolute delight, everything was fresh and really delicious, it included sandwiches, rolls, sausage rolls, scones with clotted cream and jam and a wonderful selection of cakes, it even had a selection of teas!Highly recommend to treat yourself or give as a present.

My partner requested afternoon tea for her birthday so decided to use Cafe 709 as experience always been good in store! I am so glad I did!! Was amazing! So I ordered it for 4 as I knew socialy distanced her mum and sister were visiting too. I picked up at 2pm and was given in a lovely box and well presented. I opened it and wanted it to eat it all but was told we had to wait for her mum and sister. They were running late so we had a tiny bit and was meant to wait.... in the end me and my partner ate 80% of it ourselves until we could barely move. When they arrived they were amazed how nice it looked (what was remaining) and her mum loved the scones! Sandwiches were spot on although didn't ask for specifics i loved the salmon and beef ones. Cakes were amazing too!

Well, what can we say about this place. A family friendly, always welcoming wonderful environment. We regularly frequent 709 and decided to hold our little boys first birthday here recently for the day. Just like the day to day offering in the cafe, the buffet selection was exceptional. The birthday cake beyond excellent and the hospitality just pure brilliance. They also offer a fantastic wine, beer and spirit selection that is more than adequate for what anybody could require.The acoustics in here are also fantastic for live music and the garden outside suits the venue perfectly. It is a pleasure to call Andy, Emma and their family now friends through our visits to the Cafe. We look forward to sharing many more happy times with you guys. First visit what a great cooked breakfast hot , cooked well , the eggs were superb . I’m very fussy about my fried eggs and these were perfect . Really good service and friendly staff , 2 sausage, 2 bacon 2eggs mushroom, beans , toast with real butter , all this £5.95 . Will definitely be paying another visit . And was quite busy .

I love this friendly local eatery! Fresh, high quality produce, excellent menu to cater for all, lovely owners and cheerful staff. I am a huge fan of the halloumi and mushroom panini and the breakfasts are awesome ! Prawn jacket potato and yummy curly fries and a cheeky glass of prosecco when the day allows. As for the fresh, homemade cakes - woweeeee! Emma is also happy to make cakes to order, whether they be a straight forward viccy sponge or heart stopping chocolate cake or birthday, wedding and Christmas cakes. Just picked up my 2019 Christmas cake and it’s simply beautiful, plus I know the fruit cake will be the best you’ll find !

A must to have breakfast or lunch at this cafe. The food is gorgeous, all freshly cooked as you order it. Staff are friendly and helpful. Take a visit to this little gem of a place, you wont be disappointed.

I have used this lovely cafe since they opened 13 years ago. The quality of the food and service is always amazing. A summertime lunch in their garden is one of Southend's best kept secrets... why am I sharing this? Nothing is too much trouble, Slimming World, no cucumber, everything is accomadated. If you can resist the cakes you are missing out on one of life's great pleasures.

The food was delicious! Not your typical greasy spoon, the ingredients are clearly better quality than most. Hardly any grease on the plate. The service and ambience was great too. Glad this is just a walk away from our new house 😊😊

I regularly venture to this fine establishment with my family! It is located in an ideal location with plenty of parking in the surrounding area! The 709 breakfast is the standard order- is it well priced and is one of the best English breakfasts I have ever eaten! An added touch is that the staff keen to facilitate any request so don't feel scared to ask! It is the perfect way to start to help sustain any day! Only critique is that the cafe is often closed randomly due to a mixture of reasons! Besides that I would argue it is the best cafe in the southend/ soutchurch area, with great value, great food and friendly staff what more could you want!

Visit here at least once a week with friends normally on a Saturday morning . Service and food is impeccable with plenty of cheerful happy staff who are extremely attentive. Lovely outdoor space to chill out(weather permitting). Food always top quality and in my opinion extremely good value for money. Lost count of how many times my friends and i have visited and never had a bad experience. Standards are consistently high. Please keep it up you have the perfect formula .

Everything you could expect from a small cafe. 709 ticks every box. Exactly what you want, a good meal, served by friendly helpful staff. Prices are just about right for the great food quality. Certainly won’t be dissatisfied if you visit.

After a crappy week I decided to have breakfast in a cafe. I googled cafes near me and this came up. I had salmon and scrambled egg and a pot of tea, both were very nice and reasonably priced for the amount of food I got. Will definitely be back!

Good cafe lots to choose from on menu even do wine. Food is cooked well and the cafe is clean and presentable and a good place to meet among other individual shops.

Good value for money, good quality food, well presented, friendly service. The all day breakfasts have nice fresh ingredients and decent bacon and saudages (not cheap cash and carry stuff). Sandwiches and paninis nicely made.

It was the third cafe breakfast I had tried on Southchurch Road last week - the wife was away. I had the 358.5 (something like that) the smaller full breakfast. It was the best of the week. Everything cooked nicely. Beautifully presented with the toast on a separate plate. The sausage was relatively small but really tasty - I prefer quality to quantity. At 4.50 great value. Nice friendly service in good clean surroundings. Also good coffee. As it was the best of the week and I have given 4 stars elsewhere I have have given 5 stars but must say this is on just one breakfast.

Another place I haven’t been to in a while, glad to say it hasn’t changed much. Food was still really good and tasted amazing, they do an amazing burger and I was stuffed. Good selection on menu and caters for all. Service was good, prices not to bad.

Great breakfast was had here this weekend. I had a cafe 709 fry up which was good value for what was served. After looking at the special menu on the walls it looks like they even serve alcohol throughout the day. I don’t know if I would go there for dinner though

Currently my favourite cafe. Tasty breakfast and good value for money. My only criticism is that they put too much milk in the scrambled eggs and they are insipid.

Stopped here for a rest. Never been before, was lovely. Very quaint, the drinks were lovely. Had tea cakes as well, also lovely. It has seating outside which was lovely on a sunny day. The only thing I would say that needed improving is the timescale of service. Took a little longer than I was expecting before the waitress even came over to take our order. The drinks also took a little longer than I was happy with. But apart from that it was a lovely visit, and I would be happy to visit again.
