Had lunch at Fish and Wish today, my wife is Coeliac so needs GF options. She said the Gluten Free batter on the fish was the best she has had in ages. We all enjoyed the food a lot. It's a little gem of a place, the waiting staff were lovely, and the chef was great, he made a point of comi g to speak to us about my wife's allergies and said that they take extra care and cook everything in seperate fryers to ensure no gluten cross contamination. We especially noticed that despite being very busy the staff working for him were treated really well, it's easy to forget manners when busy but everything he asked them to do came with a please and thank you. We'll definitely be back.

Very nice Fish and chip shop on the south end seafront and had the best cod and haddock ever. Not oily and very crispy and well cooked. The staff member on shift was very welcoming and warm so I highly recommend a visit while in at Southend on sea 🌊

Came here, ordered fish and chips wanted something traditional! We wanted fresh potatoe chips (traditional) but what we were served was frozen chips, almost identical to what Iceland sell (no offence to Iceland) no taste..shocking to serve fish with chips like this..when you eat this dish..you eat abit of the fish and the chip and it compliments the flavours! This is was just not worth our £15 per dish..! As for the fish..it was cold inside..! If you want fresh fish and chips and traditional this is not the place sadly...even though the owner is a nice smiley chap!

Unexpected gem on the seafront. Inside dog friendly seating and delicious fish and chips. Great atmosphere that's warm and friendly. The milkshakes (we love the banana) are incredible, straight from my childhood. 1000/10! Wouldn't change a thing and this will now be our target for seaside fish and chips!

Very accommodating restaurant. We have four people in our group with two elderly and given that we only ordered two dishes, the waiters and owner are very welcoming and allowed us to occupy a table for 4 while the restaurant is busy. Food is great, we had the skate and cod and both the fish and fries are nicely cooked!

What an amazing place we was so welcomed fresh little flowers on the table. Food was fresh and amazing 🙌 the halloumi burger was the best I had ever eaten the kids loved the food and Albert offered them more when they had finished 🥰 great service and such a lovely restaurant would recommend to everyone 🙌

I went in with the family to have dinner on a whim, they were very busy but also very accommodating by moving tables together so we could sit inside together. I have eaten at other venues on the same strip before and not been impressed with the quality of the batter, as you can see from my pictures it is clean oil cooked to a lovely golden crisp finish. When I struggled to finish my food I was offered a box to take the rest away for later, which I am happy to say was finished eventually. The front of house staff were lovely and the chef made sure everything was cooked to perfection, I would highly recommend the fried halloumi burger if you are a cheese lover. The Kids rarely have take away that is not in a bun, this time they went for the kids cod and chips and cleaned the plates. I have looked at the negative reviews and I note they are from previous owners when it was a different business. I would highly recommend and will be visiting again soon and this will be my go to shop in the summertime.

Friendly and welcoming staff, food was great (beetroot burger & chips). The chips especially were perfect; crispy on the outside, soft and fluffy on the inside 👌🏻. 5* food hygiene rating and it's a 5* from us too :)

The owner couldn’t be more welcoming and helpful. Lots of vegan options including vegan fish, several options of burger, plus sausages. They even have vegan mayo - what a dream. All wrapped up in super friendly service.

We had a great experience at Fish & Wish, the owner Albert is very kind and tries to make you feel at home. The food was fresh and tasty and the interior is outstanding compared to what you’re used to in a Fish and Chips shop, which makes the experience even better in my opinion. Pure class! We came from Belgium and we will certainly go there again.

This is one of the only typical seaside fish & chip shops (You know the kind, feels very authentic) that really well signposts their vegan/veggie options and is confident in their ability to accommodate dietary restrictions. The vegan fish & chips were lovely, I suppose I have technically had better vegan fish before but at a much higher cost, this was great food for such a reasonable price. The staff member working today (Owner, perhaps?) was really proud of this fact which was lovely to hear, felt like our dietary needs were taken seriously and he was also genuinely really nice and the place was welcoming.

Alberto went above and beyond to support us on a rainy, cold winter day. He welcomed our family and served the best fish & chips we ever had in the South End Sea. The food was delicious, and the service was welcoming. Honestly, I recommend it, and we are coming back.

I had the pleasure of dining at Fish & Wish recently, and I must say, it was an exceptional experience. From the moment I walked in, I was warmly welcomed by the Albert (owner),whose friendly and approachable demeanor instantly made me feel at home. The genuine care and attention to detail were evident throughout the entire meal. Not only was the food absolutely delicious, but the service was top-notch. The owner went out of their way to ensure that everything was perfect, taking the time to check in and make sure we were enjoying ourselves. It’s rare to find such a personal touch in today’s dining scene, and it truly made the experience memorable. Located near the pier, Fish and Wish is a great spot for fish and chips. While it might not be the very best I’ve had, it ranks high. The fish is fresh, perfectly cooked, with crispy golden batter, and the portions are just right. What truly stands out is the staff – incredibly kind and caring, adding a warm touch to the experience.

The place is absolutely amazing! The food was prepared quickly and it tasted great; would definitely recommend this place if you're ever hungry in the area. As to the service, the best I ever had. The owner is really kind and helpful, and I was able to have a great conversation with him; and I hope more people can come here and appreciate this restaurant so it can get the recognition and business it deserves! Will definitely be coming back here if I come back to Southend!

Came with a large party of 8 adults and 5 babies, and they were so friendly and accomodating despite the very limited space inside (probably usually space inside for 15, and seats outside.) I got the jumbo sausage and chips for £8 and a strawberry milkshake for £4. The milkshake was lovely, the sausage just fine and the chips very crunchy and beautiful colour. I personally prefer soft chips to absorb vinegar.

Had an order for takeaway and it was amazing,so inclusive for allergies as my daughter is gluten free and the menue gives so many options for her to choose from which I love,not many places have this so I am so happy fish and wish offer such a variety Highly recommend

We stumbled upon this charming spot after a long walk, and what a delightful find it was! The warm and welcoming atmosphere instantly lifted our frozen spirits. The owner was incredibly kind, making us feel right at home. And the fish and chips? Absolutely delicious! A perfect treat to recharge after our adventure!

Albert was a fantastic host. Fish and Wish has a great variety of gluten free options. We ordered cod and chips, and chicken nuggets and chips, all gluten free. The dedicated fryer for gluten free food ensures that there's no cross contact with gluten. Albert was so friendly and offered fantastic service. The food and atmosphere was wonderful. We highly recommend.

Absolutely loved this place! It’s a small, cozy spot in Southend-on-Sea, and we had such a great time. Albert, the owner, was incredibly friendly and kept chatting with us, making us feel so welcome. Georgia, one of the staff, was brilliant too—she and Albert made sure we had everything we needed. Funny enough, Georgia’s family was dining there as well, which added to the lovely, warm atmosphere. The fish and chips were amazing, but honestly, the people made the experience unforgettable. Highly recommend!

Albert and his chip shop are amazing, I’ve been here a few times and the calamari is my favourite, so fresh and soft every time. The chips are always crunchy and soft and the owner is lovely, would definitely recommend a stop here! Xx

FOOD was amazing ,the gluten free options made my question why no other restaurants have this much options available for gr options !My salad had a bit of dressing which topped it up and was free of charge .customer service was amazing ,got given mints after my meal aswell!

The fish was super tasty, the chips were okay. Particularly noteworthy is the warmth of the owner. I ate there alone, but felt welcome and not alone from the start. Nice regular customers.

Well looked after by Albert. From booking it day before Albert is polite and very helpful. The was 6 of us it was for my mum's 86th birthday. Albert wasn't told this until later. But he made mums day. Fish and chips was great all round. Many thanks

Fresh fish in crispy batter. The service provided was outstanding. I got takeaway and while waiting they told me I was more than welcome to sit in and eat if I changed my mind. Everything was perfect on the takeaway packaging, however after a couple of minutes of letting the food rest, the paper placed at the bottom of the box started sticking to the chips. That could just be because I put vinegar on mine, but I don't think the paper was necessary, the box was fine.

Enjoyed very good cod and chips served with a lovely fresh salad chose the Special deal for 2 which was very good value The waiter was very friendly and attentive would recommend this place 100%

Chips were poor and overcooked, sausage was cheap and nasty, fish was nice though cant fault that. Our daughter's food came out 20 mins before ours so by the time we got ours hers was finished so was making a fuss when trying to eat ours. Could of done without the long wait to get ours. Vinegar was poor and appeared to be very wateres down as had little taste and ketchup was cheap and nasty . Staff were friendly and decor was welcoming

The food was freshly cooked and delicious. We both had cod, chips and mushy peas, and the portion size was generous and good value. Staff were friendly and helpful.

I realised that I didn't get anyone's name today, but I came in with a party of 7, 4 kids and 3 adults. I was completely overstimulated with 4 excitable and hungry children. The staff were SO KIND and accommodating. Pushing the tables together so we would all fit. Telling me not to worry when the kids were shouting and singing "who let the dogs out" (LOL). I especially loved that they had Vegan options, as for lunch we had to just have chips as there was nothing available where we had eaten previously. The food came pretty fast and was delicious, and other menu choices other than fish and chips (which we'd had for lunch). To top it all off, in normal conversation I mentioned that it was my sons 6th birthday which is why we'd come down, and the staff came out singing happy birthday with a waffle with cream and chocolate sauce!!! This just made me so so happy because we'd not actually had a chance to sing to him or give him a cake. Honestly, a HUGE thankyou to you all for not judging and giving us all an opportunity to get some good food and rest before we made the journey back home. I'm sorry that I couldn't give you more than the £20 tip, but next time we come to Southend we will definately be back! 100% recommend!

Amazing. Vegan fish and chips is so good

I visit here every time I come to Southend the food is delicious the fish is just so good!!! And service is amazing. The first time I visited the owner was about to close up but stay open for me which was lovely as was off season everywhere shut. Another time he even turned the fryers back on for me as he was closing early! I don't try to make a habit of arriving as he is closing. Yesterday the same amazing service and food even tho it was very busy there. I won't go anywhere else when I'm in South end.

We live local to this establishment but have never eaten in it before, until yesterday. One of our daughters was visiting with her family, and one of our granddaughters has celiacs, so she is gluten intolerant (she has only just been diagnosed with this complaint). We made the proprietor aware of this, and he was fantastic. Her food was done on completely different boards and cooked in a completely separate fryer. The attention to detail was amazing. All of our food was fabulous. AND it's the first time (in a long while) that I saw my granddaughter almost clear her plate!

First trip out with our Gluten free daughter and the staff was so helpful and resssuring. What was even nicer was the taste of the food. A really enjoyable meal, Thank you 100% will be back again

Just ate here and I am so pleased that we chose Fish & Wish! The owner is a lovely gentleman and the staff are so very friendly and helpful. The chips are cooked to perfection with the right amount of crispness. The fish is a good size with good flavour and nice batter. Everyone inside was so welcoming to our family and the owner went out of his way to accommodate us. My kids are fussy eaters but they both loved their fish fingers and chips! I will definitely be recommending the place to anyone who visits Southend and I will now be a regular whenever I visit. Thank you Albert and staff! Little Ayah enjoyed her training :)

Wanted fish & chips but chose the fish to be grilled instead. Was advised it would take longer, was well worth the wait. Superb! As were the chips.

It was just okay, fish was decent and so were the chips though they were on the more oilier side. Selection of sauce was nice. Sad that the mozzarella sticks had no cheese pull, was a little stale, and the calamari was bland. Service was good, the two girls were very nice. Unfortunate that the guy behind the counter sounded very passive aggressive and ‘fake nice’, he had a little go at the staff and family were all quite uncomfortable.

Located under the bridge leading to the pier. Nice Haddock and chips, chips were very thick cut and the Haddock was tasty but not huge even though we ordered the large size. Service was very good from both the waiting staff and the chef. The prices were reasonable.

Visited yesterday 29th July 2024 with my family of 4 Had the large and small cod and chips and chicken burger..chips were delicious along with the fish all for £42 !! (Great value)..Portion size was more than enough. Staff and chef/owner very friendly. Would highly recommend eating here..!!!

From start (oneline) to finish the communication was great regarding a young lady with learning disabilities nut allergy . your staff are amazing and so welcoming well done ladys for working in that heat yesterday 😊. Really good place. First time trying fish and chips in UK and tasted good. The skate has more bones than the other ones. The service was great and a really kind waitress.

As a coeliac it was great to have GF rock and chips, staff are very knowledgeable about GF and other allergies. All the staff were warm and friendly, do not hesitate to visit.

Absolutely beautiful fish, not at all greasy or too much batter. Chips perfect too. Owner takes great care of you , especially as my sister and cousin are coeliacs and he makes sure everything is prepared and cooked separately. This place IS THE BEST FISH AND CHIP SHOP IN SOUTH END! And its halal???? AMAZING owner aswell Customer service is beyond perfect! Always offered me free drinks on every visit! Wonderful chap with a wonderful restaurant which serves wonderful food
