Still the best fish and chips in Southend.

The fish was super tasty, the chips were okay. Particularly noteworthy is the warmth of the owner. I ate there alone, but felt welcome and not alone from the start. Nice regular customers.

Big thank you to Albert and his staff, pre booked for 18 people as we made a special trip to Southend . Albert managed to fit us all inside. The food was quick , hot and delicious. Will be back to eat and say Hello next time we come. Thanks Albert 😊

Amazing gluten free and very friendly staff.

Well looked after by Albert. From booking it day before Albert is polite and very helpful. The was 6 of us it was for my mum's 86th birthday. Albert wasn't told this until later. But he made mums day. Fish and chips was great all round. Many thanks

Fresh fish in crispy batter. The service provided was outstanding. I got takeaway and while waiting they told me I was more than welcome to sit in and eat if I changed my mind. Everything was perfect on the takeaway packaging, however after a couple of minutes of letting the food rest, the paper placed at the bottom of the box started sticking to the chips. That could just be because I put vinegar on mine, but I don't think the paper was necessary, the box was fine.

Enjoyed very good cod and chips served with a lovely fresh salad chose the Special deal for 2 which was very good value The waiter was very friendly and attentive would recommend this place 100%

Had a delicious meal here, as a celiac it was a real treat to have so many gluten free options, staff were really attentive and friendly too. Definitely our new favourite place in Southend! Amazing food!

Chips were poor and overcooked, sausage was cheap and nasty, fish was nice though cant fault that. Our daughter's food came out 20 mins before ours so by the time we got ours hers was finished so was making a fuss when trying to eat ours. Could of done without the long wait to get ours. Vinegar was poor and appeared to be very wateres down as had little taste and ketchup was cheap and nasty . Staff were friendly and decor was welcoming

The food was freshly cooked and delicious. We both had cod, chips and mushy peas, and the portion size was generous and good value. Staff were friendly and helpful.

I realised that I didn't get anyone's name today, but I came in with a party of 7, 4 kids and 3 adults. I was completely overstimulated with 4 excitable and hungry children. The staff were SO KIND and accommodating. Pushing the tables together so we would all fit. Telling me not to worry when the kids were shouting and singing "who let the dogs out" (LOL). I especially loved that they had Vegan options, as for lunch we had to just have chips as there was nothing available where we had eaten previously. The food came pretty fast and was delicious, and other menu choices other than fish and chips (which we'd had for lunch). To top it all off, in normal conversation I mentioned that it was my sons 6th birthday which is why we'd come down, and the staff came out singing happy birthday with a waffle with cream and chocolate sauce!!! This just made me so so happy because we'd not actually had a chance to sing to him or give him a cake. Honestly, a HUGE thankyou to you all for not judging and giving us all an opportunity to get some good food and rest before we made the journey back home. I'm sorry that I couldn't give you more than the £20 tip, but next time we come to Southend we will definately be back! 100% recommend!

Amazing. Vegan fish and chips is so good

I visit here every time I come to Southend the food is delicious the fish is just so good!!! And service is amazing. The first time I visited the owner was about to close up but stay open for me which was lovely as was off season everywhere shut. Another time he even turned the fryers back on for me as he was closing early! I don't try to make a habit of arriving as he is closing. Yesterday the same amazing service and food even tho it was very busy there. I won't go anywhere else when I'm in South end.

We live local to this establishment but have never eaten in it before, until yesterday. One of our daughters was visiting with her family, and one of our granddaughters has celiacs, so she is gluten intolerant (she has only just been diagnosed with this complaint). We made the proprietor aware of this, and he was fantastic. Her food was done on completely different boards and cooked in a completely separate fryer. The attention to detail was amazing. All of our food was fabulous. AND it's the first time (in a long while) that I saw my granddaughter almost clear her plate!

First trip out with our Gluten free daughter and the staff was so helpful and resssuring. What was even nicer was the taste of the food. A really enjoyable meal, Thank you 100% will be back again

Just ate here and I am so pleased that we chose Fish & Wish! The owner is a lovely gentleman and the staff are so very friendly and helpful. The chips are cooked to perfection with the right amount of crispness. The fish is a good size with good flavour and nice batter. Everyone inside was so welcoming to our family and the owner went out of his way to accommodate us. My kids are fussy eaters but they both loved their fish fingers and chips! I will definitely be recommending the place to anyone who visits Southend and I will now be a regular whenever I visit. Thank you Albert and staff! Little Ayah enjoyed her training :)

It was just okay, fish was decent and so were the chips though they were on the more oilier side. Selection of sauce was nice. Sad that the mozzarella sticks had no cheese pull, was a little stale, and the calamari was bland. Service was good, the two girls were very nice. Unfortunate that the guy behind the counter sounded very passive aggressive and ‘fake nice’, he had a little go at the staff and family were all quite uncomfortable.

Wanted fish & chips but chose the fish to be grilled instead. Was advised it would take longer, was well worth the wait. Superb! As were the chips.

Located under the bridge leading to the pier. Nice Haddock and chips, chips were very thick cut and the Haddock was tasty but not huge even though we ordered the large size. Service was very good from both the waiting staff and the chef. The prices were reasonable.

Fresh street food, very tasty and good atmosphere

Visited yesterday 29th July 2024 with my family of 4 Had the large and small cod and chips and chicken burger..chips were delicious along with the fish all for £42 !! (Great value)..Portion size was more than enough. Staff and chef/owner very friendly. Would highly recommend eating here..!!!

From start (oneline) to finish the communication was great regarding a young lady with learning disabilities nut allergy . your staff are amazing and so welcoming well done ladys for working in that heat yesterday 😊. Albert your staff are amazing 👏 I personally would like to say thankyou Albert for the one2one regarding the nut allergy you truly care about people's dietary and medical requirements and being the carer you made me feel at easy and reassured. THE FOOD Omg fresh taste them chips was lush Thank you chef. All needs was meet Albert and that's down to and your amazing staff thankyou for a calm and lovley lunch .

Quality food well cooked and not too greasy - perfect!

Really good place. First time trying fish and chips in UK and tasted good. The skate has more bones than the other ones. The service was great and a really kind waitress.

As a coeliac it was great to have GF rock and chips, staff are very knowledgeable about GF and other allergies. All the staff were warm and friendly, do not hesitate to visit.

Absolutely beautiful fish, not at all greasy or too much batter. Chips perfect too. Owner takes great care of you , especially as my sister and cousin are coeliacs and he makes sure everything is prepared and cooked separately. Would definitely recommend and will definitely be coming back!! Well done 👍😀

Visited Fish & Wish today with my husband and daughter and this place did not disappoint. I am a coeliac so can be very difficult eating out however, due to reviews on Google we choose this place and I will be returning with every visit to Southend. We were able to sit inside out of the sunshine which was a must in this hot weather. Highly knowledgable on dietary requirements and the food was amazing! Also very interactive with my one year old which added to the customer service experience. I usually react pretty quickly if there has been any gluten cross contamination however, I haven’t which shows they take dietary requirements seriously. If you have any special requirements or just fancy a really nice fish and chips meal then I would highly recommend this place to anyone 🙂

This place IS THE BEST FISH AND CHIP SHOP IN SOUTH END! And its halal???? AMAZING owner aswell Customer service is beyond perfect! Always offered me free drinks on every visit! Wonderful chap with a wonderful restaurant which serves wonderful food

Visited here last night by chance as the place we were going to go to was closed. Only a small place but very welcoming. Accommodated a group of 6 with no notice. Food was absolutely amazing. Chips weren’t what I would consider typical chips shop chips as they were more crispy but they were absolutely fantastic. Fish was nice and crispy on the outside and flakey in the middle. Owner/waiter/chef was very great and very attentive. All 6 of us said the food was fantastic. We’ll definitely be back again. Thanks so much.

Lots of choice so it's always difficult to make up your mind which fish and chip shop to visit. Got it right though. This place is excellent. Beautifully cooked cod and chips. Tasty mushy peas and excellent service. Thank you to the guy behind the counter and the servers for making us welcome, and for the offer of complimentary tea and coffee. Thoroughly enjoyable.

Simply the best burgers, fish and chips

First tried this fish & chip shop a couple of years ago, there are a plethora of fish & chip shops a long the seafront and I can wholeheartedly say this is my favourite one. The food is yummy! Food is always piping hot and good portion sizes as well. The hospitality is always spot on, the chap who runs this place is always lovely and very welcoming which always makes the visit more pleasurable. To also add they have gluten free & vegan/vegetarian options!

Great food! The fish was crispy and fresh. The owner was really hospitable And Neha who served us was amazing. Great find!

Very disappointing. Fish had mushy and unpleasant texture and probably cooked from frozen. Chips were definitely from frozen straight out of a packet. I won’t be returning and would encourage other visitors to Southend to venture a bit further from the Pier to find better fish&chips.

Really good fish and chips, just what we wanted after coming from the pier on a cold, windy day. Very child friendly place too. We didn't try the non fish and chip options but they looked interesting, and service was very nice.

I came here with my very hungry 5 year old daughter who is coeliac. First of all they were amazing at reassuring us that they are very strict for no gluten, even bringing out gluten free vinegar! It is a real pleasure being able to take my daughter to have something "normal" to eat such as fish and chips! When we first got there the staff were very welcoming and couldn't do enough to get us seated. Unfortunately my daughter was very hangry at this point and was emotional. The staff did everything they could to make her happy, even quickly getting her some gluten free chips to eat while we were looking at the menu. Portions were good, food was good, service was amazing. We will definitely be back when in the area!

Staf went Above and Beyond..... From the start of a phone call to book a table to the meal on the table....I can't thank the staff enough...We attended for my parents 80th and 85th birthdays, Albert who took my call was so helpful and made this special day amazing and easy...catering for ages between 1year to 85years...Fresh food cooked to order, they had all the extras we wanted..salad, curry sauce, gravy ect... And it was value for money.... we were a noisy lot with all different demands and they were amazing.... I found this place online and it was perfect. Great position for the seafront also and pier. Well done and thank you everyone at the Fish & Wish....definitely A place worth visiting.

Fantastic little cafe. The guy who served us (not sure if he is the owner?) was so friendly and couldn't do enough for you, but not in an annoying pushy way. He made me scrambled eggs on toast which wasn't on the menu, and substituted other items for my boyfriend's fry up. He even offered us a free drink at the end but we were pushed for time, but the offer was so kind. You can tell he really cares about serving good food and has the best customer service I've ever come across. Thank you sir! Can't wait to come back and try your fish and chips 😋

Excellent service and amazing tasting fish and chips!

We ordered fish and chips for takeaway and I wish I could say it was fabulous but it really wasn't at all. The batter on the fish was soggy, we had to pick out many bones and the chips were so deep fried on the outside it was like eating crispy fat. There are so many great reviews on the site and that is why we visited. It isn't cheap either so it was disappointing food for us I'm afraid.

I had the best Skate and Chips and it came with fresh Salad and dressing - My husband had a Large Cod and chips (Gluten Free) and it is nice to find a place somewhere where you can eat without contamination - Great customer Service - Delicious food - Good Value - Will deffinitely be back and 100% recommend this place

Visited today for the first time. Staff very friendly and accommodating with our two year old daughter. High chair and wooden cutlery provided for her. Food was delicious, would come back again, the children’s fish meal my daughter had was demolished!! Great find!

I was feeling a bit peckish for some fish and chips and stumbled across fish and wish. The food was amazing the fish was so fresh as me and my friends decided to try a variety of fish. We loved all the food and prices was reasonable. I would recommend this place to loads of different people as it caters for lots of different allergies or whether you are a vegan or vegetarian. Staff was so helpful and lovely. If ever in Southend try this place you will not regret it.

Came from Manchester for authentic fish and chips and that’s exactly what I found at fish and wish! They even cover vegan, gluten free and halal options which I found to be amazing! Staff were so helpful in explaining the menu and catering to our needs, the fish was cooked beautifully and the chips were proper chip shop chips, staff were also very helpful advising us with wines, can’t recommend this place enough !

It was my first time to travel to Southend-on-Sea. I heard that you must try fish and chips when you come here, so I found this restaurant with good reviews on the Internet, and the actual taste was indeed great! I was seated without much waiting around noon on Friday, but it was full soon after. I ordered a small portion of fish and chips (the chips can be replaced with salad, but I didn't). The portion was much larger than expected and the price was very affordable. The service attitude of the clerk is very good, and the store provides water and various sauces to match. The only drawback is probably that the seat is narrow and there are some food crumbs on the chair, but this will be solved after a quick slap on it.
