We stopped at this place for a quick bite and we were not dissapointed - Breakfast was delicious and the seem to take a great care for different allergies - Will be back for sure

Excellent service and amazing tasting fish and chips!

We ordered fish and chips for takeaway and I wish I could say it was fabulous but it really wasn't at all. The batter on the fish was soggy, we had to pick out many bones and the chips were so deep fried on the outside it was like eating crispy fat. There are so many great reviews on the site and that is why we visited. It isn't cheap either so it was disappointing food for us I'm afraid.

Visited today for the first time. Staff very friendly and accommodating with our two year old daughter. High chair and wooden cutlery provided for her. Food was delicious, would come back again, the children’s fish meal my daughter had was demolished!! Great find!

Best Fish and Chips in Southend on Sea! I had the best Skate and Chips and it came with fresh Salad and dressing - My husband had a Large Cod and chips (Gluten Free) and it is nice to find a place somewhere where you can eat without contamination - Great customer Service - Delicious food - Good Value - Will deffinitely be back and 100% recommend this place

I was feeling a bit peckish for some fish and chips and stumbled across fish and wish. The food was amazing the fish was so fresh as me and my friends decided to try a variety of fish. We loved all the food and prices was reasonable. I would recommend this place to loads of different people as it caters for lots of different allergies or whether you are a vegan or vegetarian. Staff was so helpful and lovely. If ever in Southend try this place you will not regret it.

Came from Manchester for authentic fish and chips and that’s exactly what I found at fish and wish! They even cover vegan, gluten free and halal options which I found to be amazing! Staff were so helpful in explaining the menu and catering to our needs, the fish was cooked beautifully and the chips were proper chip shop chips, staff were also very helpful advising us with wines, can’t recommend this place enough !

It was my first time to travel to Southend-on-Sea. I heard that you must try fish and chips when you come here, so I found this restaurant with good reviews on the Internet, and the actual taste was indeed great! I was seated without much waiting around noon on Friday, but it was full soon after. I ordered a small portion of fish and chips (the chips can be replaced with salad, but I didn't). The portion was much larger than expected and the price was very affordable. The service attitude of the clerk is very good, and the store provides water and various sauces to match. The only drawback is probably that the seat is narrow and there are some food crumbs on the chair, but this will be solved after a quick slap on it.

The fish was bery fresh tasting and the batter was extremely crispy meaning it was a as good as it gets. The chips were crunchy not your classical chippy chips but still very good. My partner and I chose this restaurant out of the row of fish and chip shops purely because I liked the name...it was a good choice. The staff were friendly and made us feel welcome, the manager was very chatty (sorry we didn't catch your name) which was lovely, the portion sizes were great and the food was amazing, crispy batter just how my boyfriend likes it...crunchy chips, fresh salad...and at age 40 I now like mushy peas! Highly recommend 👌

Popped in here today at lunchtime with our dog. Place is opposite the pier and only seats about 12 customers. Lovely owner who was very chatty without being in your face. Myself and hubby had medium fish and chips I choose curry sauce and hubby mushy peas. All was delicious perfect portion size even got asked if we wanted more chips as he noticed we’d cleared out plates! How many restaurants offer that 👍🏻.. Thdnk you for a lovely meal.. they have toilets but not the best, but served its purpose 😁.. would recommend this restaurant 👍🏻

Just wanted to say how lovely our experience was tonight! We ended up being the last table in, but I'd called earlier in the day to check availability and to confirm it was, in fact, gluten-free and dog friendly! WOW WOW, this is the BEST fish and chip shop, as someone with coeliac it is so hard to find gluten free fish and chip shop and this was the best one. They was so accommodating and careful with how they handled things and majority of the menu was gluten free, the owner and waiters were so lovely and it made my day seeing the owner so happy he met another fellow coeliac, whenever I’m up in Southend that will be the shop I go to !!! Overall 10/10 I loved it there

Very nice dog friendly place! You can order nice treats like sausage for your paw friend! They’ve also got vegan fish and chips as well! Love my portion of haddock and chips and their own spicy sauce! However the prices can be slightly higher compared to your usual traditional fish and chips shops but it’s worth it for its freshness and awesome service!

Lovely fresh, big portions. As a vegetarian for over 20 years I was nervous to try the vegan fish but it was very enjoyable. However the battered halloumi remains my favourite! Thank you for the kind hospitality and amazing customer service every time!

I was looking for somewhere to eat brunch and had walked the entire sea front, nothing looked good until I passed by fish and wish! I was immediately greeted with smiles from the owner and a cheerful hello. We sat outside and enjoyed a lovely brunch. All produce was so fresh and delicious. I would definitely recommend going here if you’re In the area…. Highlight of the trip

You are doing yourself a disservice if you get fish & chips anywhere else in Southend. Fish & Wish boasts friendly staff, perfectly cooked fish and gluten-free options for the majority of the menu. This includes gluten-free items being cooked separately so no risk of cross contamination. This'll be our go to spot now, cannot recommend enough.

Superb host. Superb food. Was very accommodating towards my young family. Such a lovely little spot to eat and very friendly service. The grilled skate and salad was excellent as well as the coffee and ice cream. Can't wait to come back

This little gem it is perfect for experiencing the authentic taste of the national dish that everyone can't help but love. But you will never find a fish and chips that has this unique flavour. We were walking around after seeing the sunset at Three Shells Lagoon and as we do every time we travel from London, we get local fish and chips, as it is fresh and cannot compare the taste. As it turns, the fish and chips around were closed and just when we were about to go back to the car, we saw this coquette place with the cutest name ever, so our “wish” came true. We had the best food explosion and the taste was simply unique. We are fish lovers and we can full heartedly appreciate that the cod was simply not like the usual one, although it might seem there’s only one recipe, that’s a diferent recipe whole together, a secret ingredient. We were truly impressed and the wow factor was present all the time, from Albert’s greeting and his enthusiasm about the fresh fish: “ you will see this is something else” to the lovely chat we had. Not to mention the home made curry sauce and mushy peas were finger licking good, literally. Definitely a return trip to the “wish” of all fish and chips lovers. Thank you Albert for making it so special, we’ll be back soon :)

Chose this restaurant because I’m a vegetarian and they advertised clearly they cater for all. The food was freshly cooked, not having sat on the side for ages, with big portions but not too much you couldn’t finish. The owner was so welcoming and friendly and really went out of his way to make sure everyone got what they wanted. Really recommend, it was lovely.

A lovely little chippie, really good with gluten free. The owner is most accommodating, squeezing in my family on a packed Boxing Day lunchtime which was really appreciated. The service was lovely and friendly and polite, and the food was delicious, really fresh and flavoursome. I need to eat gluten free and the owner was very clued up about this, assuring me about their fresh gluten free batter, separate oil and utensils, he really put my mind at ease and my gluten free version tasted a good as I remember regular fish and chips to taste. The waitress informed me that my partners side dish wasn't gluten free, so I shouldn’t have any and she brought over a gluten free vinegar without being asked. They also had soya milk for my cup of tea. The only thing that could be improved is the fact the door was open the entire time and we all got rather cold, especially our toddler who was sat right infront of the door and who’s back was facing the elements in his high chair. I do appreciate that an open door encourages customers, but in the middle of winter felt this could be reviewed. A fabulous chip shop, would definitely recommend.

Wow what a lovely owner, so welcoming. Food was good, large positions and good value. Was my daughter's 7th birthday and she was served her meal on a heart plate then after was served a warm chocolate waffle with a candle. It's the little things that makes this place special. As an enthusiast of good old fashioned British fish and chips, this tale takes you from start to finish on our voyage into the depths of disappointment. We visited the delight of Southend-on-Sea on a crisp winter afternoon and promptly hit the arcade. With our sights set on a poorly stuffed mangled Pokémon plush toy, we proceeded to spend a small fortune. With excitement running through our veins, we were blissfully unaware that our fortune was about to take a turn for the worst. With the reminiscence of dirty 2p coins in hand, ticket winnings and our stomachs rumbling, we proceeded to take a walk down the sea front taking in all of the Christmas festivities. We stumble across a group of quaint fish and chip shops and settled on Fish & Wish. We were politely greeted by who we assume was the owner, we took a seat and were promptly served. After about fifteen minutes, our wait was over - our food had been dispatched from the food preparation area and was swiftly on its way to being delivered to our table. It had arrived. As the plates were hitting the table, our sense of disappointment grew as we realised the food looked fitting to have been served drowned in spaghetti hoops and served with a side of Turkey Twizzlers - something I'm convinced could pull Jamie Oliver out of obscurity. The chips lacked flavour and appeared as if they were fried from a frozen pack. The desperate attempt at gourmet flair involves a half-hearted sprinkle of paprika, as if hoping the spice would distract diners from the frozen mediocrity beneath. Additionally, the fish was thin and possessed an unusual bitter taste, offering no enjoyment whatsoever and confirming our visual observations. The side of Lemon was nice though. The unsavory letdowns dished out at Fish & Wish are compounded by a less-than-appetizing price point, averaging around £50 for four meals. It's a steep cost for an experience that falls far short of expectations, resembling more of a reheated frozen meal than a freshly prepared dining affair. Despite these drawbacks, our trip was marginally redeemed when we spent the remainder of our hard earned arcade tickets on Maoam sweets. This small victory injected a bit of sweetness into an otherwise lacklustre experience, taking the bitter taste out of our mouths, both literally and figuratively. Fish & Wish more like 'Wish I hadn't tried the fish.'. This is not traditional British fish and chips. You have been warned. Tarquin.

Came here as we discovered the allergy reviews were really good. Owner was very clued up on it. Can’t complain about the food. I had a craving for scampi and it was fresh and crisp. Loved my paprika chips. Friendly staff and the owner was great with the kids. Really made them feel welcome and made a bit of a fuss over them. I popped to have a latte today and was greeted really warmly by the owner and by his friend from Lena's next door. The owner, who I believe is called Albert, showed great respect and kindness. In my 66years on this planet I have never come across such a welcome! I was even taught a little Kosovan! I visited on Friday 13th October with my family and partner. I have to say after eating here I left with a bad stomach and feeling angry because it was supposed to be my Fathers birthday dinner. We sat down and the tables had not been cleaned (in an empty restaurant). The waiter quickly rushed to our table and started cleaning when we were already seated. He rushed whilst cleaning and proceeded to only clean half the table. Already this was a red flag and not a good introduction to our experience here. We were also hesitant to put our bags on the floor due to the dirt and the lack of cleanliness. My Mother wanted the wifi password. We asked and the employee shook his head and said ‘You should have asked if we could use the wifi first’ Then he proceeded to say that we could get it after we finished eating. I’ve never heard a response like this and my family, boyfriend and I did think it was strange and it created an uncomfortable atmosphere. After this we received our food and I have to say the one thing that I couldn’t enjoy were their chips. By just looking at them, they were clearly not fresh cut and they were nothing like the chips you would usually get at a Fish and Chip shop. When I got home I read a few of the other reviews for this restaurant and I don’t seem to be the only one with this opinion. Many people have commented about their dislike of ‘Fish and Wish’ chips. They have also received responses from ‘Fish and Wish’ saying that they are “incorrect” and they “disagree” with people's opinions. I don’t think in any way that this business is professional and that the staff have any skill in speaking to customers. I don’t expect a hospitable response. Especially from people that clearly cannot take criticism. I am simply writing this review hoping to warn any potential/future customers reading that the staff here are very peculiar and have no clue how to speak to their customers inside their restaurant and online, and that they are in denial of the quality of their chips at their “Fish and Chip” shop.

We went here as a group of 9 after reading the reviews. It did not disappoint! We all really enjoyed the food, friendly staff and great value for money. Thankyou, will definately be back!

Absolutely outstanding! After being refused service by one establishment, ( because our child has allergies ) we found ourselves in Fish & Wish. Here, they were courteous, kind and confident in what food they could serve our son. He opted for kids fish and chips which was cooked in a special gluten free batter (which was also egg, milk and soya free) in a separate fryer, it was delicious and he ate the whole fish, something unheard of! It was light, crispy and just the right size for a smaller appetite. His chips were amazing fat and crispy, fluffy in the middle. My husband and I ordered jacket potatoes and salad, which was also fresh and delicious. We would definitely recommend this place.

We were attracted by the number of gluten free options on the menu. We made an order and unfortunately one of the pieces of fish wasn't gluten free, one incorrect item and one side dish missing, but to be fair they replaced all of this...

Very accommodating restaurant. We have four people in our group with two elderly and given that we only ordered two dishes, the waiters and owner are very welcoming and allowed us to occupy a table for 4 while the restaurant is busy. Food is great, we had the slate and cod and both the fish and fries are nicely cooked!

This little place is wonderful. The chips were nice and fat and NOT greasy. The fish was well cooked and again not greasy. It was supposed to be a small cod but it was bigger but not too big. Now for the best bit...the price....

Me and my girlfriend discovered Fish n Wish a couple of years ago and instantly become our favourite place to eat. Very friendly and amazing food. It's the first place we go when visiting Southend. Probably a good thing I don't live there as I'd eat nothing else! Highly recommend!

After eating here yesterday, I felt strongly about leaving a review. I am a coeliac which means I can't normally eat food that would come into contact with wheat flour etc. At Fish and Wish they have a WHOLE menu that is Gluten Free. I was so surprised, having not have Fish & Chips at the beach for over 10 years. The lovely waitress answered my questions about how the fish would be cooked (separate fryer) and also added that the batter is completely different for gluten free and directed me to the safe white vinegar for me to use. The second waitress who came to check all was well with our meal, even gave me some extra GF chips to takeaway! The food was delicious. My gluten eating friends also enjoyed their meals - best chips ever were their thoughts! I can't thank you enough - it really topped off a lovely sunny day in Southend on Sea.
