This is a good place almost in the Belfast city centre. Nice ambience and the food taste is good as well however the menu choices are kind of limited. The soup here is very good and worth trying and a good place to have a quick bite. There's also an art gallery upstairs the cafe if you're into art.

Back again to this café and its the place to get coffee and soup or sandwich in Belfast city centre.. Great chance to see what's happening in painting or visual art in Belfast and a wide section of poetry books on the tables and art books to read free. Doesn't get much better than that.

Best value coffee in Belfast - Latte, flat white etc are £2 and as tasty as anywhere else in Belfast. They offer 3 varieties of fresh seeded rolls - they only add tomato and onion relish fresh so bread does not get soggy. 3 of us ate for £13.50 including drinks and all very happy with the tasty food. They also do soup which we have not tried yet. The place is never busy but very clean.

This is a place to get great coffee, a great sandwich and good soup at good value for money. You don't get good soup and a sandwich for just over £5 in Belfast city centre anymore. You do here. And the food is healthy. Two bonuses: firstly, this is a quiet place to read (poetry books are left on the tables) or think (internet available) or write or talk; secondly, exhibitions of the best contemporary painting/art in Ireland are shown here (the claim is based on comparing what is in private/commercial galleries elsewhere - not ignorance). The art is sold at prices that are cheap in relation to its value/its price elsewhere. For those who visit Belfast and want to have a coffee or lunch or who want to see what's been painted/produced there in terms of visual art - go here. John Brown

I was bit put off by the austere look of this place but it was empty and I needed a quiet place to work. They offer free WiFi so I went in. The place gradually filled up over lunchtime. I was very impressed by the coffee and tea. The sandwiches were also great and really fresh. I was allowed to work in peace and spent a couple of hours here. Prices were also really cheap and the service, food and WiFi were great. It’s designed to feel like an art gallery and some people came in just to look at the art and then left. It felt a bit arty farty but I would definitely return.

Great venue - wonderful light (whenever the sun shines in Belfast!) and very relaxing. Just around the corner from the hustle and bustle of the main street. It doesn't have an expansive menu (soup and rolls), but very good value and reliably tasty. Not for those who enjoy noisy and busy places, likely not to be to your taste.

Really good coffee here, with a limited but good quality selection of cakes and sandwiches. They also do a good soup of the day. The prices are very good considering it is quite a trendy looking place. They rotate the artwork from the gallery and you are well spaced out and seating is comfortable and relaxed. I would recommend. Selection of coffees is very good and haven't had less than good one yet. Personally I am not interested in spoiling good coffee taste with syrup!

I and my wife fell upon this shop on our way from the merchant for a walk. it started ok but then went downhill fast. we asked for 2 hazelnut lattes which seemed to send the red haired gent there into some sort of tizzy who after telling us that it was out of date and no one there used syrups then proceeded when asked about his coffee shot size to get offensive and pointed out he worked for Clements for 7 years ? after all this we received 2 burnt milks. avoid if you know what coffee really tastes like. ps i felt that bad for him i left a tip and dumped the coffee.

Wonderful little café, gallery, arts space. Good coffee, cool space and live jazz piano music when we visited early afternoon. Great vibe!

Popped in after a visit to nearby cathedral. Had a lovely cup of tea and slice of cake. Echo comments of others about the decor. Great place.

Stumbled across this beautiful space this afternoon. Popped in for a quick coffee and could have happily stayed for hours. The bright airy space and the minimalist design provide the perfect backdrop to enjoy the rich (unobtrusive) array of arts – literature and painting on offer. The coffee is excellent and very keenly priced. The waitress was friendly, helpful and welcoming. Café 31 provides nourishment for body and soul. Ciaran Carson – lucky man will do a reading in there tomorrow afternoon at 3pm. Café 31 is clearly a place to watch. Worth combining a visit to Café 31 with a visit to the Keats and Chapman second hand book shop – a couple of doors down (up) the street. Allow yourself an afternoon or morning to do justice to the visit.

A very cool cafe in central Belfast, Cafe 31 has a spare, gallery feel to it, with interesting modern art on the walls and various art books to peruse. They have a usual array of coffee drinks and a small menu featuring a soup of the day, breads, and a few sandwiches. I got the ham and tomato sandwich and thought it quite good ... fresh dark bread, nice ham, fresh tomato and rocket. Since they were almost out of the cheddar soup of the day, the young many working the counter threw in a cup gratis. Free wifi.

A pleasantly different place: cool, tasteful décor with some lovely artwork on display. I had an excellent cappuccino and scone, nicely served. Today was my first visit and I certainly hope to be back.

Cafe 31 is tucked away in North Street, Cathedral Quarter, Belfast. It's both a cafe and gallery space with the cafe placed at ground floor level and Fenderesky gallery upstairs. It's uber cool with pure white walls, wooden beams, seriously great artwork adorning the walls and best of all serves delectable food and coffee. The menu is small but perfectly formed consisting of soups, sandwiches, croissants, danishes, cakes, teas and coffees. It's economically priced as well. So far I've visited twice. Once to view the beautiful art exhibitions by artists Claire Carpenter, Bill Saunders and Neill Speers at which I had a great pot of loose leaf peppermint tea. Secondly just to indulge in a perfect cup of americano coffee and a feta, tomato and rocket sandwich. The food is delicious. I enjoyed it so much I sat on for a further hour drinking a latte (probably the best coffee I've ever had), charging my phone (the staff are very kind!) and surfing the free wifi.I picked up a Cafe 31 loyalty card (buy 8 teas/coffees and get 1 free) as I'm going to start visiting this place every time I'm in Belfast city centre. I'm an art addict, so for me a combined gallery and cafe is perfection, however I imagine everybody will love this beautiful cafe. It's just such a pure, airy, bright and gorgeous space which can also be hired for events or functions. One small point is that they really should offer dairy free alternatives such as a soya milk. However that won't put me off - Cafe 31 is my new favourite spot.

This place was a real find on my last trip to Belfast. Located centrally, it is a tranquil oasis, and the perfect place to enjoy a great cup of coffee. It is also an art gallery with modern art hanging on the walls (and upstairs) and all sorts of interesting books available to read. It is the perfect place to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city, relax, reflect and re-energise. Recommended highly - I will definitely return for my coffee fix the next time I am in Belfast.
