We are staying in the town visiting family and visited today for a breakfast. Having had a great visit last year we were not disappointed returning again. The service and atmosphere is excellent along with great quality food at great prices. A must for anyone visiting Somerton!!

We waited ages for our order to be taken. A young male waiter asked two others to take our order but they ignored us. Once the order was taken the food and drink arrived fairly quickly and was ok. It's a bit disconcerting when sitting inside to constantly hear staff banter and moans. So definitely could be better

Sadly I have to rate this tearoom as poor. We took my 92 year old mother in law out for lunch and we were hoping for a nice experience for her. She is in a wheelchair. As soon as we walked in we were greeted with ‘oh they’ve got a wheelchair’ and then immediately informed they were full . The people on 2 of the tables informed us that they were leaving so we got a table . There was no help from any of the staff to accommodate my mother in law in her wheelchair. We then ordered soup and a sandwich and were informed it would take 30-40 minutes as they were apparently busy. It did take exactly 40 mins . People who arrived after us were not informed of any wait and indeed got their food within 15 minutes. We were just not made to feel welcome . The food was ok but we noticed that they were charging 25p for a glass of tap water which is incredible . I certainly would not return to this tearoom .

As we were passing through, we called in for coffees and a yummy cheese scone. Although they were busy, our drinks were delivered quickly and were very good. We agreed that the cheese scone was the best scone we’d ever had away from home. Will definitely visit again and try some different options from the menu next time.

I have been in here hundreds of times! I now find myself writing a fairly comprehensive review of the place. The food is always great, from breakfast to the beautiful cakes (which are always homemade!!!) It is the best place in town for anything on their menu. The prices are incredibly affordable, you get one of everything on the English breakfast and you can not beat the local bacon, sausages and eggs! If breakfast is not your thing I recommend the beautiful scones baked in the back of the tearooms! Helen seems to have them nailed down, definitely not too big like other places and never dry, always light and fluffy, if you get the chance try the god damn savoury cheese ones, they are as addictive as crack. The waiting staff always let me have more Jam and Cream if I feel like it's not enough and is always polite and attentive. If you have a chance, I recommend trying the wine! Again homemade and beautiful! If they ever have the homemade cider in, buy a bottle! you can not go wrong with a traditional scrumpy Somerset Cider! There is so much more I could say about the place, it is pretty, quite quaint outside and is the best place to sit still if you are cycling through or stopping off. They know that I will be returning soon for a glass of wine, or several.

Ordered their Buttercross Muffin x2 for both of us.Should have been a fresh toasted muffin topped with somerset cheddar with bacon and topped with a fried egg after seeing the next table with same. What a mistake it was.The muffin was so hard you could have hammered (The one on the next table had one half of muffin covered toasted cheese) home nails with it.The cheese element was about a level teaspoon of grated cheese under a dry overcooked piece of bacon with a fried egg swimming in grease, which left an acrid aftertaste in the mouth for a long time after. i told the waitress about it she said leave it a couple of weeks and we'll see what we can do.?? REALLY NOT GOOD ENOUGH.. And it was a 31 minute wait with no one else there.

My wife and I called in on our way back to home in Somerset from London, for a quick snack lunch. We ordered two warm cheese baguettes and two drinks. The two drinks arrived immediately (full marks for this), but after 15 minutes there was no sign of the rolls. I went into the cafe (we were sitting outside) to ask if they had been forgotten, on which the young waitress rolled her eyes at me and the chef interjected, "They take time, you know" from behind her in the kitchen. I responded to this by pointing out that 15 minutes seemed like ample time to make two baguettes, on which she replied "The wouldn't be warm". Heads up - yes they would, if I was making them. I walked away.Another 7 minutes passed, no rolls. We were just preparing to pay for the drinks and leave when the chef appeared and very brusquely served us with the rolls before departing with a deliberately supercilious smile and an obviously sarcastic "Sorry for being busy".We ate, paid and left as quickly as we could and will not be returning, an will be encouraging everyone we know, by whatever means (this is the start) *not* to patronise this rude and sarcastic woman. We understand that kitchens get busy (although to be honest the cafe wasn't that full), and we understand if orders occasionally go astray (which is why I enquired in the first place), but we refuse to be subject to the sarcastic comments and disgusting attitude of this woman, who is clearly a stranger to any concept of customer service, or even politeness, and is unfit to be in this business. If I could give this establishment zero stars I would. We visited today, 21st September 2019

They got my latte exactly how I liked it and it was in front of me just minutes after I ordered even though the place was packed! The breakfast came out shortly after, very pleased once again as they were busy and seem to only have one chef. They fulfilled my request of having extra sausages, the breakfast was delicious and very much worth its price. We visited here 16.7.19. Ordered a cream tea each with two scones. When it appeared the scones where really dry and stale. The jam looked like a budget Asda kind of option and the clotted cream was the same standard. Also the amount of jam and cream wasn't even enough for one scone. My wife then realised as we went to the leave the chairs outside where faded 1980s plastic . Obviously the owner doesn't care about quality. Just taking money from people and providing vile food.

I visited with my mother on a quiet mid week day and was impressed by the warmth of welcome and level of service provided. Sitting in the sun would have been preferred but the inside was ok. The menu is small and more light lunch/breakfast level but there is care here and it shows in the quality of the food, the cakes, genuinely homemade, were delicious. This cafe has a nice location and you can sit at outdoor tables when warm with a view over the centre of this historic town and the war memorial. We only wanted a light lunch before visiting a nearby National Trust property. Having been stuck indoors for over a week without seeing a soul except my husband I had "Cabin Fever" so talked him into going out for a Saturday Drive. Going through Somerton we saw the tables and chairs outside a Tea Rooms in the Square, so we decided to stop and have a tea/coffee. There was a very chilly breeze when we got out of the car, so decided to go inside, and boy the lovely smell of fresh baked scones got in the nostrils and made our mouths water. Decent sized tables with linen table cloths which added to the ambience of typical olde worlde tea rooms. We were warmly greeted by a very pleasant young man who allowed us to choose our table (hate being made to sit where they want us to). Tea/coffee turned into afternoon tea of a sandwich, my husband had cheese and homemade pickle on brown homemade bread while I chose bacon on homemade white bread. This was followed by a fruit scone with fruity strawberry jam and cream for himself and a cheese scone with butter for me. Then we both had a piece of chocolate cake, again homemade. The tea and cappuccino were good too. Good job we do not live in Somerton or we would be putting on weight with such delights on offer. They do lunches and breakfasts, again everything homemade where possible. You can buy bottles of cider or cordial or jars of jam and chutney. With this wonderful cottage industry in full swing just when does the owner find time to sleep ? All the staff were smiling and friendly and nothing was to much of a bother for them. Will certainly be returning in the future, as I can feel "Cabin Fever" being a constant problem at home.

We decided to pop in for a quick lunch whilst visiting Somerton visually this looked a quaint little tea shop so had great expectation - however was very dissapointed when ordering it looked as though it was going to be a bit of a wait as looked quite busy being a Bank holiday. We waited 40 minutes for one cream tea, cheese scone, and a jacket potato!! simple meal so one would think this would take less than 10 mins while we waited patiently twice we heard the chef/cook shout very loudly at the two staff which by then made me want to ask for our money back. Finally our meal of cream tea and Jacket potato arrived minus the cheese scone as we were told their microwave had broken so could not serve the scone cold, I decided on an alternative of a cream sponge instead, I waited another 10 mins! just to be served sponge in my mind this should have been served to me straight away still waiting so asked for my money back. Really think this lovely little tea shop needs to have a lessons in customer service although the waiting staff so obviously have a lot to deal with being shouted at from the person( chef) in charge. Not a nice experience for both customers and staff.

In addition to our food we also bought a large jar of their homemade tomato and courgette chutney- I'm not sure how much the jar was, but it can't have been much as the whole bill only came to £8 something (local chutneys and things are usually quite pricey). After just a week the chutney is almost gone, it's scrumptious! We will definitely be going back soon! It was good to hear that the café is usually open on Sundays during the summer too, as very few independent café in this area are!

Wonderful food and service. The children were served first this was really great as we could settle them before we ate ourselves. Will be going again

My family, in-laws and I visited the tearoom for lunch. The staff were polite but, overall, the experience was disappointing and overpriced.

At first glance the "Big Breakfast" all-day breakfast for £5.95 looked good value. On reading the detail it was clear that it wasn't really "big", just one of everything e.g. one egg, one sausage, one slice of toast, etc. Tea or coffee were not included in this price. So I am only awarding 2 stars for "Value".We ordered our all-day breakfasts and then waited. And waited. We had to wait for around 30 minutes for our food to arrive even though the tea room was only about half full. So I am only awarding 2 stars for "Service". When it did arrive food itself was good quality and hot, and not greasy, so 5 stars for "Food".The place was very clean but more like a utilitarian cafe than a homely tea room. It was surprisingly noisy which I guess was due to the lack of soft furnishings, so the sound of other customers talking echoed around even though no customer was being particularly noisy. So only 2 stars for "Atmosphere".

Called in today hoping for one of their delicious sandwiches only to be told they didnt do them.. It has changed hands and is now sadly not the cosy welcoming place it used to be.I asked the waitress how long the new owner had been there, she then went back into the kitchen and told the owner, they then proceeded to laugh about it, I could hear every word.Poor customer service, coffee was nice hence 2 stars not 1.

Have been coming here many times over the past few years. The food is wonderful, freshly made, good choices and portions, Grandchildren love their super milkshakes. Lovely friendly staff. I just love it. You can sit inside but they do have tables outside and on a sunny day its lovely to sit and watch the world go by.Highly recommend.

A great place to stop for coffee, lunch, or tea which rightly seems very popular with the locals. We enjoyed lots of tea and cake after a walk up Herne Hill (recommended) and my OH particularly enjoyed a Manhattan cake which was all chocolate mousse and orange. Great, friendly service as well.

Fantastic night for dinner, we always struggle taking our child out for dinner but we felt such at ease. We were greeted with friendliness, served fast for our drinks and told to choose a table! Food was delivered fast, hot and delicious! Lots of parking space, my son was given colours and colouring paper which kept him happy. We booked in for the Christmas breakfast with Santa and can’t wait 😍

Had been looking forward to visiting here for a while but was left disappointed. Unfortunately they dont seem to be well adverse with alligies. After informing them of an alligie within our party it's seemed that panic struck and we were told they couldn't guarantee that the food was suitable as the kitchen had various things made in it. We left hungry and disappointed

My wife and I stayed for 2 night, expecting evening meals and breakfast as we were visiting Wells and Bath and Yeovil . I think it was a lovely pub at one time but not now. It did no food closed most nights , we visited other pubs for our meals very disappointing stay and would not recommend anyone to stay I think it will possibly close down very shortly.
