These guys clearly care about being the place that delivers the best burrito in town, in contrast to similar but ultimately sterile, depressing franchise/chain establishments. Always a welcoming and energetic vibe too.

Music (not mexican) way too loud, floor and tables needed cleaned. Chicken burritos were standered, burger was reheated/dry and not much to rave about really.

Ice cream 2 choices of flavours to mix milkshakes amazing & fun to combo, have tried banana & salted caramel, strawberry & banana, strawberry & vanilla, vanilla & brownie, & oreo & brownie, great if you need that late night shake fix. Also they properly melt their cheese on their waffle fries & even let me have piri piri powder on them too to mix & match. They always welcome me as well after my long night festival shifts when they are conveniently the only ones open after finishing around 2 or even past 3am, once offering me a student discount just for me. Thank you guys! Slightly pricey but worth it for my needs that late where nowhere near is open.

Only go here for the cheap pizza! The rest is fairly poor, greasy, and tasteless. Will fill you up quickly, at least!

Disgusting food. Indian food disguised as Mexican.

Quite a pricey place for the kind of food it serves. There are street food / other establishment that serve similar offerings for a much lower price. OK place for a late night snack I guess? We bought a large Crispy Chicken Burrito for £11.5. We were supposed to get unlimited fillings / toppings, but I think you have to stay to tell them what to put. The chicken serving was quite generous though. Taste wise it was pretty good, though we weren’t expecting it to taste of curry.

Went here after a night concert. It made a nice change from having a kebab. The burritos were a good size and tasty. The guys that worked there were polite.

Awful experience. 3 of us went in and asked for a crispy chicken burrito. Payed £11.50 and 'as a joke' I presume, we were served burittos filled with only curry sauce. They were laughing and talking about a secret ingredient. DO NOT GO HERE!

Hotter than HOT in there. Immediately started sweating. Got a burrito and a shake and the milkshake had HAIR in it. GROSS. The man who made my burrito was also not wearing gloves, and did not wash his hands, then proceeded to touch the ingredients by hand, and wrap the burrito. Absolutely disgusting. Will never eat there again. I hate leaving bad reviews but this is unacceptable for a restaurant.

When ordering my burrito they asked if i wanted any toppings (like guac, and some other things) I said yes please everything. They then told me to take a seat. (I ordered for takeaway) Once i got my burrito the burrito only contained chicken and rice and some cheese at the very bottom. It was very good but also really annoying i didnt get any toppings. If they tell you to sit say no thanks and make sure they get all the toppings you want. ( language barrier maybe)

Shredded chicken Burrito is perfect!! I really enjoy it. The price is reasonable (only 9.5 pound) Really recommend

Not the best… taco was okay but not alot of food. Burrito was nice though! The nachos were awful. Looked good but the cheese wasnt melted at all so they were all cold. Not enough sauce for the depth of nachos. For £30 I feel I deserved my nachos to be warm and melty. No one in there which made it abit miserable in all but it was a week day and it’s fast food so don’t expect a lot but I do expect melted cheese on my Mexican food.

I just had a milkshake but realized that by the time it was made, the quality wouldn't be up to par. I could have given two more stars if the front didn't have "shake" on it... But I wouldn't have returned. For me, if the very name of the restaurant includes "shake", I expect to give it 5* when leaving, but not here. Otherwise the service was ok and the atmosphere too. Good point: the restaurant is open until late.

We read the reviews and went in anyway. The staff were extremely friendly, the food portion was great for the price and it tasted absolutely fine. Basic inside but what more do you want from an easy burrito place?! We were pleasantly surprised!

I didn't realise that a late night burrito was a good option, but it is. Good selection of fries too. I wouldn't visit during the day but in a city without an abundance of late night options then this is a good addition.

Went there yesterday for a quick dinner, I had beef hard tacos and my partner had a burrito along with some curly fries. We both really enjoyed it, and the guy serving the food was very kind. Would recommend it if you are looking for comfort food.

I can't express how nice these guys were. There was some real personal respect and appreciation in my transaction. In my experience it wasn't a restaurant but a takeaway food joint but the staff could not have been nicer. Honestly, these guys deserve a lot of respect. I've only come to Edinburgh for the weekend but I hope they're successful. We all work hard to get through life but these guys put in the extra shifts.

Bread on chicken burger had mould; chips (which saw staff take out plastic bag and “cook” in front of everyone) were low quality and tasted disgusting, just barely warm. Can see why the place is empty, avoid unless you actually want food poisoning.

Clean with a friendly staff. Unfortunately, an establishment proudly (and quite ironically) calling itself “Burrito ‘n’ Shake” made for me, in a single sitting, the worst burrito I’ve ever tried to eat in my life accompanied by the worst milkshake I’ve ever tried to drink in my life. Sadly, “Burrito ‘n’ Shake” failed to provide me with what I would comfortably call either a burrito ‘r’ a shake.

This is the second time my friend and I are getting burritos from here and we LOVE it. We were really confused by the negative reviews we saw! I’ve been getting the shredded chicken burrito, and she (a vegetarian) gets the veg option. Can’t speak for other menu items, but the burritos are delicious and so chonky. Personally I struggle to finish it in one sitting but even if you’ve got a bigger appetite, they’d fill you up. We got it as takeout too and they’re still great. Such a great supper option too because they’re open till so late on most days — a rarity for food places in Edinburgh!

Ni se os ocurra pedir aquí. Pedimos por Uber eats 4 burritos y nachos. Nada correspondía con el pedido, le pusieron a cada uno los ingredientes que quisieron. Elegimos específicamente los nachos con guacamole y salsa agria, nos llegaron los nachos con queso solo y hechos desde hace una semana. Los burritos a parte de llevar los ingredientes que parecía que les habían sobrado del día y tenían que gastar son el 90% arroz. No te fíes de mas fotos, no se parece en NADA. Hemos pasado angustia y al final hemos pedido a otro sitio. NEFASTO HORRIBLE REPUGNANTE. Quiero mi dinero

Really poor experience don't recommend going there me and my fiance had a beef burrito and quesadilla which is not as tasty as we expected If you're expecting them to accept the tastecard, they unfortunately don't accept the tastecard anymore, which is not an issue but overall not a good experience. we are so disappointed nothing like it's advertised

The worst quesadilla I have ever had, there’s nothing tasty in the filling it’s so bland, I tried a lot to like what I was eating but couldn’t help, been wanting to go there for so long! unlike the picture it’s totally different, the service was poor, the atmosphere was just. I have been to so places despite of the reviews and try the food and like them but this place is definitely not my go to place again. I’m not a kind of person who reviews but I think this deserves it.

Looked after my 8 year old and me whilst we waited for a night bus after a match, cracking milk shake and coffee... Great service from both the staff 👌

They lied to us about opening hours and then slammed the door in our face. The food was nothing like pictured and did not taste good. I would not recommend.

We visited about 7pm on a Saturday. Pretty empty. Maybe this place gets busier later? But the food was good, the staff helpful, the portions too much for all but the greediest member of our party, yet leftovers tasted even better two days later. Will definitely visit this place again!

A nice restaurant, serving Halal food. Just by the famous Royal Mile. A versatile menu, welcoming staff, with a nice view of the street. The food was delicious and reasonably priced.

Only had a milkshake, but remember the food being fine, last time, too. Bit of a messy atmosphere and basic cleanliness, but probably about what you'd expect from somewhere open so late for simple fast food.

Lunchtime during the festival. Shredded beef tacos: all ingredients seemed good but strange choices- advertised with salsa but it was a very bland Pico de Gallo, guac was good but there was also chip shop curry sauce in there. Prices were high. I expect this is a good spot late, after beer.

Avoid this place at all costs. My husband and I got a portion of chicken nachos and a portion of beef nachos. Both were stone cold when they arrived. The chicken was dangerously under cooked and i cant even begin to describe the awful smell of the rotten chicken. Ive never been sold food this bad EVER!

Tasteless, the rice box came cold and to dry . The burrito wasn't good as Mexican burrito and the beef quesadilla not bad .

I was hesitant to order with the review ratings, massively regretted ordering, spent 41 pounds and the wrong order came which was cold and soggy, tried ringing and getting in touch several times but with no luck, THERE ARE MANY OTHER MEXICANS AROUND, do not pick this one.

Great burrito moist and tasty will definitely go back

The food was good but not quite what I expected. It had more of an Indian food flavour to it and there wasn't much of a spicy kick in it. Good for a quick bite but maybe not the best for authentic Mexican food flavours.

It was OK, it looked like cooked fresh and should have been super tasty but no taste other than cheesey also the refried beans were an odd texture. Daughter had crispy chicken and she found pink chicken so couldn't finish it. I had beef was OK but again not much flavour. Wasn't really what we were expecting. Tables were not cleaned as there was still bit of rice ect on some of them and it felt slightly shabby on the inside. Don't think we will be going back.

Good food and very tasty. I would like to give 5 stars but the food wasn't exactly Mexican in taste. I was served by a guy called David. He was very informative and offered great service. First time in the place, but left very welcomed and happy and full. Will be back again.

I'd say it was Arabian food wrapped up in Mexican style. The product look exactly like burrito but had taste and aroma of middle eastern food. Though I particularly enjoyed it as it was really unique to be honest

As James May said, this was sick with cheese. An Indian and Mexican walked into a bar, what do you get? This food. I won’t recommend if you like Mexican food. The coffee tasted like instant coffee mud flavoured.

We ordered there and they didn't deliver the right food as well as just forgetting our milkshakes completely. The food was not the best either, did not taste like authentic Mexican food at all. I would definitely not recommend as there are a lot of better Mexican food places in Edinburgh.

I enjoyed the milkshake and the fact that they sold beers late at night when pubs nearby were closed. Not many flavours but enough. We even went back for more the next day.

Worst ever burrito I've ever had in my life. Dony even think of trying their nachos. They are below than average. Everything is overpriced. Worst possible customer service.

We had vegetarian hard-shell tacos and nachos, followed by a piece of cake and (reportedly the best ever) slice of pizza here. Everything was super tasty!

Absolutely phenomenal best burrito/food ever!

It's the subway of burritos. I found the staff friendly and the prices very reasonable. There's also a huge variety on the menu so I am sure you'll find what you like.

3/5 Fairly average but reasonably priced! Went to try this place as fancied a Mexican and in all honesty was slightly disappointed. The flavours are not very traditional (almost has Indian spices mixed in!) And the quality of the meat was not great High Street Mexican chains like barburitto are much better in quality (and a very similar price) The shake itself was also very average and you can taste the poor quality ice cream. Overall not a great place for a burrito but perhaps a student favourite due to the prices!

On our recent trip to Edinburgh we wanted to try different restaurants and headed here to Burrito n Shake. It wasn't what I thought. It looks like a restaurant but it's basically a take away. There's plenty of tables and booths to sit at but it's not table service. You go up to order your food, collect your food and clear your own table. The food comes in polystyrene take away containers, not plates. I had the chicken burrito and it tasted delicious, not too spicy, and was quite big. My hubby had a burger, he said it was a cheap basic burger but taste nice. Curly fries and onion rings were probably the best we've ever had. Fairly reasonable price compared to what else is around in the main city centre and seems to be the main Mexican place we could see. But the fact it was more of a take away took away from the restaurant experience.

Rice was basmati, not Mexican at all. The food had turmeric, jeera and other Indian spice in a MEXICAN burrito... Call it Mexindian food and it would do justice...but don't sell it as a burrito and use tradition Indian spices...let down!
