Have been going here for years and are never disappointed. My favourite meal is cheese & onion pie with their amazing home cooked chips, delicious!!

The pub itself and the staff were absolutely great—really welcoming and attentive, no faults there at all. We had the Sunday dinner, but unfortunately, it wasn’t quite what we were hoping for. The vegetables were quite soft, and the meal lacked flavour. The beef seemed to be pre-packaged rather than freshly cooked, which was a bit disappointing. We really enjoyed the atmosphere, though, and would happily return for a drink—just maybe not for the Sunday roast.

Our friend booked a table for 6pm on a Sunday, we were a little late ordering but the wonderful staff still made sure to accommodate us even though their kitchen closed at 7. Warm friendly service throughout, the food was wonderful (I had the cheese and onion pie which was HUGE and tasted gorgeous!), and the general atmosphere is lovely. 100% recommend for a family meal or a catch up with friends, the place is a gem! Thank you!!!

Brilliant traditional pub that serves great home cooked food. Excellent, friendly service.

4 of us visiting for lunch on Wednesday 23rd Jan 25 after a lovely 5.5 mile walk around the Piethorn valley. We sampled the well kept Titanic Ale before ordering our meals that were Steak n Kidney pie, Steak n Kidney pudding and 2 Rag puddings all with gravy, a generous portion of chips and a large bowl of mushy peas. I have to state that we cleared our plates and enjoyed the food immensely! Friendly lady behind the bar made us very welcome as did the few locals present. A proper pub with good warm feeling and pleasing decor. Very much recommend a visit and intend to return very soon!

Nice atmosphere, decor is dated but part of the charm, I guess, although the black emergency lighting and cable in the main seating area looked a bit of a mess. We were only disappointed during our visit by the attitude of the old bat Landlady, though, all over some rubbish chips. A very minor issue that could have been dealt with very easily. We waited a while for our food, and a waitress noticed and asked us who had served us, we had been waiting for ages, but it was good to follow this up. The food was brought out and we didn't receive an apology for our longer than expected wait but we weren't that fussed about that at all, we knew they were busy and I'm only mentioning this because of the attitude of the landlady. Our food was mostly really nice, my mushroom soup was homemade and I enjoyed it. Now I know it's only a bowl of chips but they were cut small or dog ends from the bottom of the bag or something, like a McDonald's fry cut into half then half again..this made them oily and would have upset my stomach which I politely mentioned. I politely told the landlady they were too small and oily, so she took them away and casually said. "Oh ok," as she walked off with them and presumably chucked them in the bin. Didn't come near us again to offer an apology, refund, or new chips of normal size and edible or anything. It was clear in her opinion they were acceptable and wanted to get away with having to refund us and admit they weren't great. We were polite and didn't make a fuss or complain any further. It seemed like the old bat was too long in the tooth to be reasonable and had taken from us, not a lot of money, but still annoying to be treated like that. She seemed friendly enough, so disappointing she would be this hardfaced. We won't be back.

We had Christmas Day dinner last year which we thought couldn’t be beaten but without a doubt you have the service hospitality and food were fantastic,thank you for a lovely Christmas Day, see you next year thanks John & Anna

Took and ungrateful, moody friend out here for dinner Sunday and the quaint nature of this food pub did lift her spirits. Great dessert menu, nice range of beers available.

Quiet afternoon visit, but the food was still nice fresh and plentiful. Cosy old fashioned pub with car park and outdoor seating. The pies are fab!

Great proper pub, with a traditional but very very tasty menu. The BBQ ribs were on point. Steak great. Chips brilliant. Peas equally brilliant.

I found The Bull on a Facebook group. They were very welcoming. I had a meal and a drink, which were both very good. They let me leave my camper van in their car park overnight so I could get my head down. They even let me in to use the facilities first thing in the morning, and made me a much needed hot cup of tea. If your passing pop in you won't be disappointed.

Real nice food and plenty of it and nice service

Now ve known of this place for years eaten and ver ten years ago here and was passing so gave it a try . Food is just ok nothing amazing but thex prices are good for what you get . At a weatherspoons you can get a couple of pints a meal x2 for £30-£35 well for £40 I got the same here and one sweet dish but this food was very edible and it was a different class well worth the money. Excellent service by the young bar maid … not a busy place only three tables eating but was happy with what we got .. we will be back

We had intended to catch the metro into Manchester but after some self inflicted delays we decided to go local instead. Being Sunday lunch we didn't have much confidence in finding anywhere local that 1. Had an interesting and satisfying ambience 2 had a good selection of food. The Blues Head at Ogden. These kind of pubs are slowly disappearing and being replaced by non traditional bars that serve up microwave cooking. On my visit I ordered a steak that was cooked to perfection, homemade onion rings and proper chips. Had a pint of traditional hand pulled pale ale which was pretty good to say I was in Lancashire 😁 Looking forward to my next visit soon. The Yorkshire Italian kitchen bloke 🇮🇹❤️🍕

NIce quiet little pub great food

Visited as a group of tourists with young families. The team really looked after us, food was great value, and the kids loved the fish tanks! Proper traditional good old pub. I nearly had 5 puddings. Loved it!

Great place for a family with a dog and good food

Everything about this place is absolutely amazing, but especially the food. My boyfriends known about this place for ages but he’s only recently brought me here. The staff are extremely lovely, the food is always 12/10 and the atmosphere is just lovely.

Menu not correct. Does not say if chios and veg included with meals. NOT a rag pudding but a suet pudding in a glazed pot. Slow to present meal after ordering.

This was our first visit to the pub/restaurant in the lovely hamlet of Ogden. We enjoyed the walk up from Newhey in the early evening sunshine and we were not disappointed by our meal. The food is home cooked and delicious. The portions are very large. I had cheese and onion pie which was lovely and a very large piece which came with a large portion of home cooked chips and mushy peas (although there was choice of potatoes and veg sides). No room for dessert but the choice looked good and homely. Service was very good and the restaurant got quite busy for a midweek evening. We will definitely be back.

Been coming here since the late 90's not been for a few years however I visted on 17/05/2023, It was as good as I remember great food,staff and the pub still retains lots character. Kind regards N J Holt

Nearly 8 quid for a double vodka lemonade

Lovely pub and restaurant, we had the lunch (bar) menu, and not only was it very nice, it was also very reasonably priced too...👊

We had a buffet there for my husband funeral. It was excellent. They made us feel relaxed and comfortable. The service was excellent. Would recommend them.

Awesome place for a post walk beer after walking Ogden/Piethorn

I've seen them cooking chips at 10am, doesn't open until 12ish. I am no chef, but that doesn't seem right to me.

Lovely, traditional pub. Probably the best chips we've ever had! And throughly enjoyed all our meals. Would recommend and definitely visit again if ever back in the area.

I'm kinda disappointed tonight normally love this house pub for food normally spot on. But the food wasn't at its best for what we paid not even a offer to have something different and still paid the full price for the food that wasn't even touched. The food wasn't nice and even matched what it should of tasted like. I found it rude to not even ask if I wanted anything different and to still make us pay for the full amount ...
